Sussex Health Centre

Im sharing this as I wait in the emergency room in case I don’t remember later. There are over 12 people in the emergency room since I got here with my husband who’s catch some kind of mean virus at the gym, or so it seems; Anyhow we arrived at 6: 30pm clearly stating how bad he is feeling, it’s 9: 25pm and we are still waiting for someone to receive him, hopefully! And praying he’s not just prescribed dome Tylenol as we showed the nurse who took his symptoms in triage that he is already taking that. I went to advise the receptionist about this as it is well advertised in the emergency room “VERY IMPORTANT: if your condition worsens during your wait, please notify the triage nurse OR have someone do this for you” which I did for my husband, her response was “sure I’ll have them know” hours passed and nothing happened! Meanwhile here we are 3: 30 hours later with just the hope to be outta here with a prescription that will help my husband feel better. This breaks my heart, because I can’t do anything! And apparently this is the only way to get medical help in Sussex area! It’s dark outside already and we haven’t eaten anything, or drank anything, because if they miss you while they are calling your name it’s your loss!
Canada is a first world country but in medical terms it might just be one of the worst! If you must come here to this clinic in Sussex bring a snack, water, a blanket! You will be here for long hours! I know and I’ve heard and have been informed that it’s worse elsewhere like in Fredericton! However, it’s average same in Canada! We are all people here! And need medical attention, what’s happening with the higher hierarchies! System is collapsed! So sad!

Sussex only has one hospital, and unfortunately there are a lot of staff who just don't care and are extremely rude to the patients. And a lot of the nurses up there think they're the doctor. Nurse Gail is a perfect example. I just watched her yell at a little girl for not being able to swallow her pill. It got so bad to the point where other nurses came out to see what was going on. Then when confronted about it she lied and blamed the girl for not taking it properly. She is a poor excuse of a nurse and needs to be fired

I was in and out of emergency in 2 hours tops. My ear drum had burst and was dripping blood, so I didn't need any tests. It was an obvious problem.

The front staff were kind, the doctor not kind at all so that's why 4 stars. He was a bit rude and in a hurry, not the worst but very far from a kind doctor. But, I got my prescription and I saved myself 13 hours waiting in Moncton or Saint John!

Friendly staff, very quick besides the wait time (to be expected to an extent) Didnt catch the doctors name but she was very helpful and got my broken hand fixed right up.thanks to her ill be back to work sooner. I was in an out in 7 hours. (Moncton hospital made me wait for half a day then told me to go to a clinic)

Absolutely unacceptable attitude towards patients. Extremely long wait for a doctor.while waiting, you can already die.what do we pay taxes for?

I showed up at 7: 30 and asked if I could see someone they were very helpful and very courteous and caring.

They LIE. They don't care about your mental health. They push people away. They try and call you crazy. The mental health industry is a fraud they actually try and make your health worse. The system is completely broken. There's no more faith in the world.

Small wait Monday Morning. Appointment with Specialist. Went well. In and Out. Great Day In The Neighborhood

DONT CHOOSE SUSSEX HOSPITAL! Ive been here for a couple days and I still havnt been looked at why are we all paying for this building to be open? They wont help you! Go to sj or moncton or fredericton even by ambulance if they wont listen. Emergency in sussex is a joke

Absolutely terrible experience. I came here a few weeks ago as the hospital was recommended to me and it was supposed to have shorter wait times than Saint John.

I wasn't sure if my ankle was sprained or had a hairline fracture so I went in for x-rays. After an 8 hour wait I was told a few things by the doctor who saw me.

1) I'm fine - though it is now almost 4 weeks later and I'm still in pain putting a sock on in the morning - and was point blank denied an x-ray 2) that the next time I go to use a tencer bandage I should hang myself with it and 3) information and their opinion of a patient the doctor had no right to share with a stranger.

I'd rather wait longer to be given proper and respectful care than come back here.

My first experience was bad. Had to go back twice more and they were absolutely amazing. Thanks for your hard work and dedication

My 11-year old daughter was seen recently after breaking her arm on the ski hill at Poley Mountain - our poor little girl was in so much pain. The ER staff were AMAZING from screening to registration to triage to x-ray to the cast room. The triage nurse promptly treated her pain to improve her comfort. The x-ray technician was very patient in helping her move her arm in different positions for the different images they required even though doing so made it hurt. Dr. Dutton, the ER physician that day, was quick with any movements she had to perform in getting her out of her ski jacket and wrapping her arm in the cast. The LPN nurse in the cast room was pleasant and cheery and took the time to talk to my daughter to help her take her mind off what was happening. Great team! We were in an out in about 2 hours with minimal waiting between stations. So grateful to have that hospital so close to the ski hill. ️‍? They said they see a lot of injured skiers and snowboarders from the mountain and it’s evident in how efficiently they handled our case, and especially with how good they are with kids.

Im just perplexed at the poor attention to patients in this clinic, I wish we had more options here in Sussex to medical help, I am in need of an ultrasound but I first need a slip from the Saint John Hospital from a doctor then come back to Sussex to be on a long waiting list which can take months, by then my diagnostic can just worsen. This is Canada yet health services are tremendously poor and you are not given suggestions but to go to a private clinic in Moncton or Saint John. True sad story.

Worst hospital in my life, my wife was suffering a misscarriage, the parking lot is dead. And now it's been over 5 hours and no one has seen here yet. I see lots of staff out in the cars smoking and vaping. But still no one has helped my wife. If your not gonna take things like this serious. Your in the wrong field.

I'm not sure what all these reviews are talking about. They must have never been to the moncton hospital. I was actually in and out within an hour. Everyone was exceptionally nice and personable. They listen to what was wrong and actually looked for a solution, where in moncton they just turn you away or don't listen to what is being said. In one hour I got more help than I would have gotten in 72 hours at the moncton hospital. Very fast and seems they actually want to help, not just grab a pay check.
Pros: low wait time, FREE PARKING, nice and professional staff, actual medical care.
Cons: nothing

Thank you for outstanding care! This was our fourth trip to a hospital - the first to Sussex.and my husband finally got the care he needed desperately! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

The waiting time for when you have a serious medical problem happening is ridiculous. And if you're a smoker, to a couple nurses specifically, that's what's wrong with you no matter what it is. On top of that, it has some of the moodiest and most condescending nurses and doctors you will ever meet.

Every time I come up here it takes them about an hour between the time they send someone from out back til they call the next person to see the doctor. I been here for over an hour and the waiting room is getting fuller and fuller and nobody has seen a doctor yet. Last time I'm coming here I'll spend the gas money and go to Saint John.

You would see a doctor quicker if you drove to SaintJohn, and went to the hospital there. Slow and rude staff.

Likely have fractured knee but have to wait for a phone call.was told I needed crutches but have to go buy them. Have no means of transportation and given no way home. Nothing for the pain I'm in and the staff are all in horrible moods and seem to be taking it out on the patients.and to make matters worse I fell multiple times on my way home but didnt see a point in returning to the hospital that I don't even think should be called one

There is an old nurse here who is seems to work has a pretty check on the way in. She should be fired. She's rude and argogant. A prime example of why Canadian health care needs some reform. On top of that the other nurses here are Farley poor I'd I was sick I'd make the offers to go the city forget this hick town verso of a hospital it should be removed.

I was there visiting my dad and the doctor knew what he was talking about and they were fast and nice and not mean like in Ottawa. Doctor really cared and most importantly was intelligent

It took 6 hours for me to wait to get in and I had a broken finger & hand at the time.and when I broke my ankle they didn't do anything just any Xray and said it was broken.really? … haha and both times they never gave me a cas. I was in a lot of pain.thanks for the help.

There was hair from someone else took for ever to see a doctor still waiting got here at 9: 29 and it’s 1: 15 still waiting super slow

Its never nice to have to visit the hospital in most circumstances, however, sussex would always be my first choice.the doctors and staff truly make this hospital a better place to be
