We enjoyed a 1 night stay and with Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador status we received a suite upgrade on the 4th Floor. This is the same floor Stephen King rented out when he wrote "The Shining" and there are other ghost stories about nearby rooms.

Even if you don't believe in ghosts I recommend taking the tour with one of the hotel's knowledgeable and friendly staff members. There is some very interesting history.

Restaurants on property aren't the best food I've ever had, but the service was very friendly. The lobbies had fireplaces and comfortable chairs for hanging out or playing games. It had a relaxing vibe.

Overall it's an old hotel with a pretty cool background, so if you find yourself in the area it's worth a visit. I wouldn't consider it a resort by any means but St Andrews is a very cute town and the rates are very affordable during off season.

I am giving our hotel stay experience a 2 star review. This is our experience. We are locals to St Andrews and wanted to spend an evening with our two children at the hotel. We called to book our reservation and made sure to ask if the pool was functioning properly and if there was a buffet available for breakfast the next morning. We also stated that we would like to be close to the pool in a room with a king size bed. Whoever we spoke to told us the pool was operating with no issues, there was a buffet and for $300 per night we could enjoy a junior suite room close to the pool. When we arrived our room was located as far from the pool as possible. The opposite end of the hotel on the 3rd floor to be exact. No big deal! However the pool was not working properly and was too cold to enjoy. When we woke up we were told there was no buffet. We were very disappointed with our stay. We spoke to the manager at check out and all they said was they were sorry and would try to do better. On a positive note the staff was friendly. The ghost walk was awesome and the room although a bit beat up was clean. Not being able to
Enjoy the pool and no buffet for breakfast really ruined our experience. Next time we will stay somewhere else.

Best hotel in Atlantic Canada especially if you have a dog Your pet will be pampered by the staff. Given lots of attention and treats if you allow. The staff is exceptional.

Service IS everything! Despite some shortfalls on arrival the staff made everything pleasurable during my 2 day visit in December. Adrian greets you with a beautiful smile and professionalism at the front desk. Roy is energetic and attentive to guest needs. Dorcas! I want to open a classy bar and hire you, perfection! V, Viktam, Gio, Danielle, and V handworking and nonstop service - having been in the business I can tell you these staff members are on the ball. And last but certainly not least Adrian, thank you.
I had all of my meals at the hotel, the winner for me was the Poki Bowl.

Resorts staff is so helpful. We went to celebrate our anniversary. And due to some miscommunication our room was not decorated as per request. The staff at the resort upgraded our room in the same amount they did not charged us and extra money and offered free drinks. View from our room was amazing. We just loved this place and hope to visit soon

Friendly Staff, from check-in, to dining, to room attendants. Gorgeous rooms, 4 stars only b/c bathroom was tiny - no tub & enter 1 at a time. Will be back.

My husband and I have been staying at the Algonquin for many years and love to stop in St Andrews on our way to Boston from Halifax. We were there 3 times this year, once for a long stay for a large family get together. Many of us are Bonvoy members. The service has been getting worse since the pandemic. We were really disappointed with our experience this time. Some of the staff were rude to us. The toilet in our room kept flushing all night and when we brought the problem up, we were told that we should have giggled the handle.really? For the price we were expecting better treatment and service. We will be booking rooms at one of the Inns downtown next time.

The Algonquin was an excellent hotel in St Andrews! It is one of the best hotels in Canada and you must stay here!

Honestly this hotel is highly overrated. 380$ per night for a dirty room is a shame they did change us rooms but the other one was as dirty as the other room. The "resort" is not waterfront. Even hotels in Niagara falls or big cities are not as expensive as here. Hard to get washcloths/towels. Walls/doors are not soundproof at all you can hear everything. The restaurant from the hotel was really good.

Old world charm resort vacation vibe. You want to be out of your room swimming, playing a board game by the fire, bocce, tennis, croquet, taking a ghost walk tour, golfing, biking… so much to do! The rooms have been updated with modern comforts but still shabby chic. There’s a fantastic paved loop walk or ride from the Resort along Katy’s Cove, around the Southern tip of the peninsula, and back through the picturesque village.

I wish that I could give this place 5 stars.
The food was great, the service was impeccable and the ambiance is great.
There’s just one problem and it’s a big one.
There is no air conditioning anywhere even though it is miserably hot in this area 2 months a year.
There was nothing on the Marriot website that indicated that this was one of the only hotels they have with no AC.
To boot they actually have fireplaces running despite the heat!
I have medical issues and cannot get too warm and the last I expected was a hotel with no AC.
I understand that up to a decade ago there WAS no reason for AC but that time has long since passed and it’s time to face reality.
I won’t return in the summer unless Marriot gets its act together.

I can't say I've had a more terrible experience at a high end hotel. We paid a premium for a dive motel experience. First got to the room, we had no wifi at all. I went to the concierge to bring it up. I also asked a couple of questions and ordered some wine glasses to the room then tipped him $10. Two hours later no glasses, no wifi. I called down and they said they would look into it. Never saw the wifi nor the glasses. We ordered room service for my daughter as we had diner reservations. They said it would 25 minutes. 1 hour and 15 minutes later it showed up cold and incorrect. We got sat for our dinner reservation in what could only be describe as the worse spot in the room. The table was dirty no attempt was made to clean it (we ended up cleaning it ourselves), we sat beside dirty dishes just left on a ledge. The food was overcooked and under seasoned, cheap low quality ingredients. I was asked if I wanted to take my leftovers but I couldn't as there is no fridge in the room. After spending nearly 450$ on dinner we went to the patio to have a drink. We got the menus and then sat for 25 minutes before leaving as no one came. Back to the room to watch movies on an Ipad that was almost as big as the tv to have a drink of wine that we had to use the garbage can with ice to chill as the wine chillers were too small and drink out of coffee cups. I expect this kind of service out of a Canada Best Value hotel not a Marriott, but hey at least the ghost tour was fun. Will not be returning and avoiding Marriott brands for the foreseeable future.

We stopped in for some appetizers on the porch. We had oysters and mussels and other appetizers. This hotel offers great service and premium food. I recommend.

Our family of 4 stayed 2 nights after visiting Boston and Maine. Overall we enjoyed our stay but the the hotel needs a refresh as its showing its wear and tear in the hallways, rooms, etc. Even a coat of paint in many places would help.

Kids enjoyed the morning buffet and we ventured into town for dinner to eat as the dinner menu was limited.

We enjoyed riding the bike trails as a family and kids enjoyed the waterslide which was great but we missed the outdoor pool as the kids always wanted to use the waterslide when swimming.

Overall value was good and would visit again in a few years.

This resort is great for families and not so great for couples. It is busy and loud. The cleanliness of the rooms is less than it should be-carpets stained and dirty and housekeeping is done quite late (4pm!) and inconsistent clean towel replacements. (Read: missing towels daily) Again, great for families with active children but not an upscale property.

Overall, it was a decent stay.

The room was clean and the size was adequate. For as old as the resort is, they have done a great job keeping it modern.

My only complaint with the room was the TV. It was deathly slow, and my friend staying in another room said her TV didn't even work, so there are clearly some issues there.

The worst part was the check-in and check-out process. I don't know if it was a lack of training, a language barrier, lack of experience, or what.but the front desk efficiency and interaction was one of the worst I have had at any hotel. In fact, my entire party had issues with the same thing during their stay. However, there did seem to be a manager on site that really knew what he was doing, it just seemed anyone beneath him didn't. I could see some other guests getting frustrated as well.

I don't know if I would stay here again. The price vs experience wasn't really worth it. I think for a few hundred $ less, absolutely, but at current prices.not again.

It seems the room that we gave to our family is communicating with another so badly isolated and even at the service of the hotel after two complaints impossible to have peace in the next room at one o'clock in the morning.music in the background, people shouting.they woke up my little one who is crying as well as the whole family. After the third time I went to the office at 1: 30 they finally left the room. But some came back and making noise until 3 am. Horrible experience I had. Ahhh and ya top of it.at 1am In the corridor there were Cockroaches and find some in the room too. I think this hotel has several severe problems.

*edit* oh they offered me a 50% suriously? ! You should cover charge for this type of experience.a $600 room!? Even at 300 that's disgusting

Loved everything about our stay. We only stayed for one night, but we had no idea how cool this place was. We will be back for the ghost tours, golf and on-site activities on our next vacation to NB.

The thing we enjoyed the most was the service. The staff, with their welcoming and accommodating kindness, made the atmosphere very charming. The pools are really a highlight. The breakfast was truly fantastic. And the special attention to detail for our doggy was very much appreciated. It was also my toddler son's most favourite stop on our entire roadtrip.

So much to do in and around the resort as well, the location is awesome. St-Andrews is a gorgeous coastal town with lots of fun shopping places and restaurants.

Bravo Algonquin Resort and team. You guys are a real gem.

By far the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at. Huge heated outdoor pool, beautiful newly renovated indoor pool. Awesome hot tub with a crazy waterside. Oh and the restaurant was good too.
