I had a very unsettling experience at this vet clinic roughly 2 months ago. I brought my cat in as he wasn't himself and our regular clinic was closed. My partner and I were in the process of taking him to Georgia for a kidney transplant. He was in late stage kidney disease.
We were the only people in the vet clinic when we arrived. A vet named Stephanie Hawyard was working and come to triage Riley for us. From the start she had a rude attitude. We had alot of questions to ask and at one point she slapped her hands on her knees and stated " so, do you guys have anymore questions" with an aggressive tone and rolled her eyes.
She took Riley outback as it was determined he had a bladder infection. As we were sitting in the room, we heard very loudly coming from behind the doors Stephanie yelling about how mangled Riley looked, stated his teeth were a mess after he just had dental surgery, how we were crazy for taking our cat to Georgia to the staff out back. It made us so upset as we were trying so hard to help Riley and everyone was so supportive at all the other clinics we've been to.
We rushed right to the desk and we told the girls working what we heard and we wanted our cat back. They were sympathic and rushed right out back to get Riley. Stephanie did not come out to apologize. They took our names and numbers down so that the manager could reach out to us. We have yet to hear anything back from them. No apologies, nothing.

I brought my cat here because he was having bladder issues. They were able to see him promptly the three days in a row I brought him in. On the third day he died at the vets.
They sat me down and let me hold my dead cat, I was near hysterical. After a mere couple minutes they got into the money talk. Asked if they should bring me the POS system while I was still holding him so I to pay the $600 bill for giving him blood-work and CPR. It felt very inconsiderate considering the circumstances.

BEWARE! Two years ago this adorable kitty was almost cooked alive by these people! After almost 2 years and over 200 vet appointments and many surgeries this is a picture of the clothing he must wear for the rest of his life due to the injuries he suffered at their hands!

I needed a bottle of insulin for my diabetic cat.

My regular vet was closed for the evening so I called 4 Paws and explained my situation. They said they wouldn't sell me a bottle of insulin unless I brought my cat in for an exam which is not cheap. I explained again that I ran out of insulin and just wanted to buy another bottle because my regular vet was closed. Again they said they wouldn't sell me a bottle of insulin unless I brought my cat in for an exam.

Best service around. I can’t thank the staff enough for taking care of my 7 month old kitten when her spay incision opened up. They took her into surgery immediately and gave her the best care possible. I couldn’t be more appreciative. They were also very kind to me in a time of panic. Thank you 4 paws!

My dog recently needed emergency surgery and the doctors, technicians and receptionists at this clinic were one word: incredible. After needing to stay at the clinic for 5+ days, by some miracle (aka: the hard work of everyone mentioned above) my best friend was able to come home and is finishing his recovery with me. I am so grateful for the additional time that has been given to me with my boy, and this is a direct result of the amazing vets and staff at 4Paws. Thank you for everything.

After paying for a vet services of my pet that was sick I was asked by the vet if I wanted to put the cat down or not. I said I wasn't sure and he provided me with alternative options.

In the end all of these options we had previously tried to some degree. After going through the heartbreak of losing my pet I got the bill and they had added a bunch of counselling on. I understand that time is money but if you're going to charge me for a 10 minute conversation I'd like to know its going to cost more money. I probably would have paid regardless but I felt upset that I wasn't informed.

I paid the bill and left without asking questions but ultimately I felt it was opportunistic and in poor taste to fake concern for my pet in order to charge me more.

The staff were all great aside from this and unfortunately this ruined the experience.

We recently switched to a different vet and the whole experience validated all of the negative feelings I was having about 4paws.

Don’t get me wrong, we had some positive experiences there but overall the negatives were enough to turn me away.

On numerous occasions we were given expensive treatments that did next to nothing. This would be fine but during the examinations it felt as though the vets never cared and hardly did a thorough look. On one occasion we were told “there is nothing wrong with your dog” and sent away with 400$ shampoo and medication. It just felt like they didn’t actually care to give a full inspection or listen to what symptoms we were trying to explain. The treatments hardly ever helped and we would often find ourselves back at the vet having to pay another chunk of money for some other treatment. Thankfully we were able to manage the symptoms after researching the issue ourselves.

Additionally our dog can be reactive and occasionally barks when the vet knocks on the examination door when they first enter. The barking usually only lasts a second however one one instance the vet was extremely agitated with us and suggested we get a muzzle. Our dog has never ever but anyone and hardly shows signs of aggression beyond a few barks. After the few barks our dog was friendly and happy. I expect a vet to not be scared of a barking dog. It felt as though we were given a cat person vet who did not want to be around the dog at all. She was extremely rude and dismissive. Additionally, the staff were reluctant to allow any accommodations for bringing our dog into the appointment as she can be reactive to cats and dogs while on leash. I don’t think it’s too much to ask to have us come in to an empty waiting room.

There are many other reviews that share the sentiments I do. It just feels like they don’t care about your pets and strictly want to get as much money as they can. If you can, try a different vet. We now go to one located on Quinpool, which I highly highly recommend.

Had to bring in both my dogs after they went for a porcupine and the staff was absolutely fantastic and empathetic. I would 100% go here again, if there is ever an emergency again. Thank you 4paws!

Loki says a big thank you to helping him feel better! After not eating for 5 days he's eating again and starting to feel better thanks to all the wonderful veterinarians there especially Dr. Graham she was very informative and helpful listened to all my concerns and really tried to get a full understanding of why Loki was so sick thank you!

Super bad memory here. I'll never forget the experience. Spent thousands dollar here and I cannot get an explanation on what killed my cat after the surgery. I feel his life wasn't respected. The doctors are nice. But I just consider the management is confusing and chaotic. It maybe a place to do urgent treatment (but I still don't know what happened after the surgery) but not a place to recover and do the following nursing

So grateful for the exceptional team at 4 Paws. They were able to see our kitten on half hour's notice, and kept him stable and comfortable through a tense night. The team here was able to identify and treat a chronic/escalating health problem that had been overlooked by two other vet clinics. We were in constant communication with updates, were encouraged to call in ourselves (even at 3am!) to check how things were going, and the staff were gracious and kind in managing my own anxiety over his post-op behavior. Doctors were upfront about costs of procedures so we had a good understanding of our bill at all times.

Tha k you 4 Paws for taking such good care of Boots! We think of you gratefully every time he wakes us up at 5am with big purs and cuddles.

Unfortunately we had to use their 24 hr after hours line for our dog who ate a substantial amount of a non digestible foreign substance. The staff was excellent and reassuring. Thanks to their guidance our dog was able to clear the blockage herself and doing fine. I would not hesitate to use theIr services anytime … Highly recommend!

Wonderful people! Took in Hunter the cat with a urinary blockage right away and all is looking up for him. Glad we got him there before things got really bad.

We didn't end up taking our pup in here. Thankfully she started to recover before needing to. The team at 4 paws was quick to answer questions via phone and email. Rather than pushing to get paid for expensive procedures, they asked the right questions and took the steps to make sure my pup was cared for properly without the need for vet care if not needed.

Dr. Hayward and all of the staff were amazing with my cat Sadie, who wasn’t feeling well.
I believe she will make a full recovery thanks to their kindness and diligence. They’re wonderful!

The best bet I’ve ever been too. I wish they were accepting new patients not just emergency basis! Everyone from the technicians, vets and front end staff. They are so kind, helpful and compassionate, especially in stressful situations! Kept me updated on everything, and not once got annoyed with my questions, or constant calling to see how my pup was doing. Harlow and I thank you and your team so much for your help. I couldn’t recommend this place more!

Extremely useless. Unwilling/unable to accept diagnosis from another veterinarian (bladder stones) requiring complete new assessment in order to elevate cost of overall treatment. Impression given by staff answering phone (Sunday, 26/Jun/22) was we care but only if you give us your Visa number. Other wise best of luck.

Horrible service all they care about is the money upfront to save your animal. They won’t even do payment plans for people that don’t have the money at that moment in time. Never going to this place again.

My dog got too close to a porcupine, and you can guess the result. Four Paws was very accommodating and took my dog in even though it was 10pm. I am so grateful they were willing to see him and pull out all those quills. I don’t know what I would have done without them. Thank you so much!

Omg, I just realized I haven't left a review of this amazing place. I've had to make a few visits here and I'm always greeted with such kindness understanding and support. I've brought 2 different feline friends here and both times they made sure I understood everything and always kept me in the loop. Cannot recommend them enough

I have heard VERY bad things about this place! My friend's kitten needed emergency surgery and they were going to charge her x3 the price for it. She asked her home vet what the actual price of the surgery was and he said $1500 MAX. Yet 4 Paws was going to charge her $4000!

The employees were being super rude to my friend as well! DO NOT GO HERE!

I brought my cat here because he could barely stand up and they brushed us off, told us he was fine because he was being aggressive while they were trying to examine him.told me to go home and monitor him, and he died in my arms not even 10 mins after we left. We rushed back there, and they told me they would cover the cost of the cremation and give my money back from the exam. I just went to pick up my cats remains and they tried to gaslight me, told me they never said they would pay for it. And they would not refund me. Do not take your animals here. They are neglectful and only care about money

Staff is awesome. But every time I get a different vet. Some are awesome and caring and easy to trust, but some super mechanical and odd. Open 24/7 but still difficult to get appt sometimes. Would recommend - for the lack of better options.

Very appreciative of the 4 Paws hospital and staff. Responsive, knowledgeable and efficient. Hopefully won't have to return but am happy that they are there to help should our pets need it!

Saw me and kitty immediately regarding a paw issue. Kitty seemed to be in such distress at home but settled during drive. Vet assistant gave a lengthy exam and everything seemed fine. I wasn't charged a fee whick I wasn't expecting. So happy they were there for me a very nervous new mom.

Four paws is absolutely awesome! We just moved from out of province and our dog got sick they took us late in the evening and admitted him the next day for an overnight stay. We were able to call as often as we wanted to check on his status, the staff were always friendly and kind to us. Even after discharge, they were available for phone calls and questions. Excellent, PATIENT, service!

Lovely staff who show their passion to take care of pets. I'm glad they took my cat who was in pain.

Zero rating. If you are looking for a place that has no compassion and shames you - this is the place to go! Want a rude call in the middle of the night - shaming you for not being able to “visit” at midnight…when they’ve asked to keep your animal for observation until the morning (and you paid for that service), 4 Paws is highly recommended! Literally the worst experience of my life with a vet. STAY AWAY!

Took the time to search all over my dog to make sure he was ok. They took the appointment right away even tho it was a holiday. They re assured me that my dog would be ok and he's doing great! Thank you. Great staff.

On one of the hardest days of my pet owning life and these wonderfully compassionate people made it a little easier. The staff is compassionate, caring and kind.

We’ve used this vet on a few occasions now and had mostly good experiences. We really liked Dr Stephanie and there was another vet we had who was locuming there that day who was excellent, wish she worked there full time.

I would like to provide a cautionary tale to those who use insurance after we were unexpectedly stuck with a large bill months after our dog’s visit.

They were able to bill directly to our insurance plan (Trupanion) which was a plus. However when we went to square up our bill we were told by the vet assistant working the front desk that we did not owe anything, and that insurance had covered all of it. This didn’t sound right to us since our insurance usually doesn’t cover examination fees, and we asked her multiple times if she was certain this was accurate, she reassured us we owed nothing and that our insurance took care of it.

A few months later, we were stuck with a bill for hundreds of dollars. We explained what happened, and there was no apology from management and we were blamed for their error. If there was any sort of accountability or apology on their end I wouldn’t have even been irritated or writing this review.

In hindsight I should have asked for a detailed break down of our bill, and I’ve learned my lesson. So what I’m getting at is, if you receive an invoice from 4paws that doesn’t seem accurate, there’s a good chance it isn’t, so ask questions!

We recently had to make an urgent appointment to see our beautiful dog chocolate lab Eden. She spent a day and night with 4 Paws getting excellent care and I am happy to say she recovered well with their treatment. We were so appreciative: to get in quickly (not current clients of 4 Paws and nervous not seeing our own cherished Vet) ; to have good communications from a knowledgeable and caring team ALL AROUND; to be provided expert advice re options from superb Vets; and most of all to bring home our girl to recuperate. Thank you all from the bottom of out hearts and cookie jar!

If I could rate zero stars I would. We are absolutely disgusted with our experience with 4 Paws. They are extremely inconsiderate and provide lots of false promises. Had a really messed up experience where they would not let us in to have my terrified Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (with severe separation anxiety) be put down. These medical professionals with the best PPE would not allow our dog to pass away in comfort. Their suggestion was curb-side delivery.

We had contacted them before to ensure my brother who was flying in from BC would be allowed into the vet. He spoke with an employee on the phone who ensured him that they would “clear the clinic for you and your sister” (their words - not mine) to accommodate us under these extreme circumstances. When we arrived they CHANGED THEIR MIND and refused us. They even went so far as to contact the other Halifax and Dartmouth animal hospitals to inform them not to let us in. They suggested we broke quarantine and called the police on us. My brother was allowed into Nova Scotia during the lockdown on the premise of the emergency situation of picking me up from school and dealing with this veterinary emergency. He was allowed by the officials and police to do so.

We had to drive 17 hours straight to Toronto through the night, holding my struggling dog's mouth open for her to be able to breathe, in order to get to our trusted vet to have her put to sleep in the comfort of our arms. Their carelessness would have saved us thousands of dollars. I will be forever scarred from this experience.

I would like to thank the staff for the care they provided for my cat, Caleb, over the years. And thank you for the gracious end of life care that you gave to us and our cat. Thanks for caring and being there for my family. I highly recommend this place.

I recently had to put my dog down and I did so through 4 paws. I was absolutely devastated and upset. Doctor Brittany was the one that helped with the process, she was extremely nice, caring, sympathetic, and very loving to my old man during his last moments. She helped make a horrible situation that little bit better. I will be forever grateful for that. I would recommend 4 paws to anyone.

Love this place. They are busy but what Vet isn't? That are always friendly, professional and seem to genuinely care about my dog. And I never feel like I'm getting "up-sold" like seems that be the norm now. And open 24 hours a day? Perfect.

I'm actually genuinely surprised there are good reviews anyways. My dog took a tumble And this was the only place open so I went here the reception was OK however it sounded like they didn't really care Then they charged me $800 just for the X-ray and a further $400 for them to spend the night I understand veterinarian bills can be expensive in all but really come on and when I got my dog back they didn't do anything they instead made me pay more money for the medication $89 that they could have been giving my dog Anyways my dog turned out to be OK I brought her back a few weeks later And they tried to charge me another $800 for another X-ray because apparently they didn't know what they were doing the 1st X-ray you know that's great. Anyways When I 1st went here my original estimate was only $800 for everything instead I paid a over $1289 plus tax And my dog was supposed to go for a monthly follow up on the 3rd I called easily 5 times and have yet to get a call back so I guess my dogs not going back It's probably for the best because the medication I got wasn't done properly and all the measurements or off some of the doses I was actually giving my dog too much even though they were pre measured It's a good thing I noticed before anything bad happened anyways I found it to be quite unprofessional I do appreciate how they did answer all the questions I had but again it didn't sound like they cared about my time.

My dog Bentley got really sick, I took him to a Windsor vet and they recommended I take him to the city emergency, We went to 4 paws and Dr. Brittni was amazing. She was so understanding and comforting. Unfortunately our sweet Bentley didn’t make it due to cancer. But I couldn’t have asked for a better experience due to the circumstances. Dr. Brittni made sure we got paw and nose prints to have. It was so beyond thoughtful. I will never go anywhere else. Thank you from our hearts.

We had to put one of our cats down today due to end stage renal failure. The staff were compassionate and made the whole process as easy as possible. The doctor was very caring and helped make this sad experience as peaceful and kind as possible.
