Alexander Keith's

I would recommend booking this in advance if you can, because spaces fill up! The tour of Alexander Keith's brewery was well-paced and very informative. One of the things I really liked about how they've organised the tour is that from the very first room, you have a sampler glass of beer in your hand. I prefer this to a lot of other brewery tours I've done worldwide where you spend a long time walking from room-to-room in the factory and only get to taste the beers at the very end.

Another interesting feature of the tour is that it isn't the same guide who takes you around the factory, they hand over from guide to guide during the experience.

The highlight of course is the culmination of the tour in the Stag's Head pub where the staff put on a fantastic ceilidh with song, dance and of course, plenty of beer! It was really well done and felt authentic.

For the non-drinkers there were non-alcoholic items on offer but I think this tour is best for those who want to try some beers. Would definitely recommend!

This needs 6 stars. I didn't know what to expect as we booked this tour about 30 minutes beforehand. But I could not recommend anything higher than this tour and the folks who facilitated.

Whether you like beer or not this was a fun tour. They talk about the history of Alexander Keiths, how beer is made and they even play some Celtic music. Oh and the beer.they were generous with the beer samples too!

Super belle expérience! C'était notre 2e visite (la première étant en 2005, ça l'a beaucoup changé). La visite raconte l'histoire, permet de déguster leurs bières, apprendre et voir comment la bière est brassée.

If you’re considering, DO IT! We had such an amazing time learning not only about the beer and Keith himself, but his history supporting Nova Scotia aswell!
Vince was extremely knowledgeable and answered any questions we had with ease, and Drew has the voice of an angel! It’s so awesome to have employees who care so much about their job & the brand. Absolutely we will return next trip through! Thanks so much!

I've been to a lot of brewery tours. Can honestly say none of them came with as many samples and production value as this one.

I see the 4 star reviews up here and they're just looking for something to complain about.

Over the past few years I have accumulated 4 Alexander Keith's growlers. Each and every time I invested in one I paid a deposit and was told that when I chose to return them I would get my deposit back. Well, today I went to the brewery market to return my growlers and get my deposits back and I was abruptly told "we don't do that anymore". I was quite taken back to say the least. Apparently I was lied to when I paid deposits on the growlers on four separate occasions. Is business so bad that Alexander Keith's retail outlet has to resort to fraudulent business practices to make a few bucks off the backs of local supporters? Disgusting to say the least I will take my business elsewhere. You shouldn't be allowed to treat people like that! Shame on you!

Great experience. Absolutely the staff that makes the tour what it is. No idea what they get payed but they deserve a raise!

Had such a fun time here on the tour! It was super lively, we got to sing Great Big Sea with our guides, and they made this into an extremely memorable time for me and my partner who were visiting the city for the first time! Would highly recommend visiting to anyone.

I really enjoyed myself at Alexander Keith's brewery. The tour was very informative, we got to see many original parts of the brewery incorporated into the new parts of the building and the staff definitely know their history and facts. The beer that is included in the tour is good, even though I'm not a beer drinker. It was nice to try a few different beers and to hear all about how beer is made. If you're into beer, then I definitely recommend this tour, and even if you're not, you can do the tour without drinking the beer Either way it was an enjoyable tour.

What a fantastic experience, set of exhibits, and SHOW! They really make it a lively and interactive experience, touring the Keiths brewery, with a few freshly brewed treats along the way (hehe). It captures the spirit and times of the Keith family way back when, and a bit about the art and science of brewing. We enjoyed the ceilidh show at the end, as did my two daughters (but they had to have ice tea, being minors!)

Nice little tour! Takes about 50 minutes and includes 2.5 beers per person (stout sample, standard IPA, plus a free choice of whatever they have on tap). I wasn’t too interested in the history, but learned a couple nice things - you will likely feel rushed if that’s your goal here.

There’s a fun basement bar portion with some live music by the tour guides. This was my favourite part and the performances were really lovely - won’t spoil any specifics! We went on Keith’s birthday (October 5) so it was free! Try to do that if you can make it happen!

So I went here thinking I'd have a pint of fresh Alexander Keith's. Apparently they don't serve it at the brewery unless you do a tour and they directed me to a pub around the corner that already serves it.

So unless your doing a tour don't come here thirsty.

I have moved past their beer being in my fridge, but the tour and entertainment were amazing! I'd recommend the tour, even if you don't love beer!

I absolutely loved this experience! The folks who do the tour are great - very outgoing and seem to enjoy their jobs! Huge kudos to them - they played a few songs and sang at the end and it was a lot of fun. The brewery was very cool to go through and see all the history there. And of course, the beer was amazing! And to anyone thinking of going - DO IT but do NOT bring your small children - other adults want to enjoy this.

Great little tour. I have had other brewery tours that were more educational however the surprise finish is what made it a 5 star for me.

The tour dives into Alexander Keith’s history and how the beer is made. There were some fun facts presented. Definitely fun for tourists to partake in. The staff was great and answered any questions we had. They gave us a taster during the tour, and two small glass at the end to enjoy with live music (1 beer we got to choose).

Had a great time here. They have lots of history and the tour guides were very friendly. You get multiple free beers throughout the tour and get to listen to some talented singers.

The only thing I didn’t love was that the content of the tour was very scripted and felt cringey at times, I felt it could be a bit more natural.

Drank beer all over the globe, merchant navy UK. Alexander Keith's is real good beer. I am Scots/ Canadian ah know a good beer! Living In BC noe, I buy AK a lot, its a class beer costs a wee bit more but why settle for gassy yellow excuse for beer when a few cents/ dollars more buys you beer/nectar! And as a Scot a few cents more can hurt a canna Scot but for real good ale like AK Ah dinna care a hoot!

You have to take the tour and get the pints:). Once inside you will be treated to the incredible history of Alexander Kieth’s brewery and life. A real experience is the ‘secret’ basement pub with a passage leading to an escape tunnel. I had a great stroll through a real historic site. Do not miss this spot you will not be disappointed.

Although there's some bits of interesting information, you are so rushed to drink your included beer and to get out that I can't recommend it. I visited a couple of breweries and microbreweries and they never rush you.

Always a pleasure to visit the Alexander Keith’s Brewery. The staffs are friendly and knowledgeable. Very nice and informative display, a must see if you are visiting Halifax.

I had a really good time even though I don't drink beer, and there was lots of beer! The staff is amazing, knows it's stuff, sings and plays music! Wow! Good for kids too as they gave iced tea and lemonade to us and there were games:)

The brewery tour didn't have much brewery in it, but even then, it was a very fun tour of the history of Alexander Kieth's.

They give you a LOT of alcohol during the tour though. Probably around 30 oz (two small sample size plus two bigger glasses) plus after the tour, the tour ticket includes a coupon for another sample! I'm glad we ate before coming in!

This was my second time doing this tour and it was just as good as the first time. The staff really but effort in to making it a fun experience. Lots of sampling and the music is wonderful! Would highly recommenced a tour!

Very disappointing meal! Service marginal. Cold in the restaurant. Fish and chips extremely greasy. Burger not great. Would not recommend. Would not return.

Best part of my stay in Halifax. Worthwhile tour given by people who sincerely care about the history and the product. Would recommend to anyone visiting the city!

The tour is worthwhile! My only complaint is that not much of the tour is spent on how the beer is actually made. Regardless, we recommend the stop.

Absolutely amazing place to get a tour. All the tour guides went above and beyond and made it an absolute blast!

There were only two of us on the tour and it did not matter at all, they had a ton of fun and so did we.

Omg the beer is so good! @ the brewery they have a number of beers that aren't available across Canada as they are small brews only available at the brewery or select locations in halifax & Nova Scotia. The tour price is so worth it with the beer they offer on it. And the tour itself is really good. It offers a lot of insight to the heritage of Halifax and the role Alexander Keith played in it.
