Alternative Routes Nova Scotia

Alternative Routes is a fantastic option for those who want to see the highlights of Nova Scotia but are a bit short on time!

We were picked up at our hotel right on time by our fantastic guide, Ian. One of the big benefits of small group tours such as this one is everyone gets to know one another and Ian was addressing all six of us by name right from the very start!

Over the course of the day we got to see a lot of sights including Peggy's Cove, Queensland Beach (a highlight for us Aussies!), Mahone Bay, Lunenburg and the Bay of Fundy. There is a surprising amount of ground covered in the day, approx. 300km but it didn't even feel like a lot of driving because we were all having such a fun time onboard the van!

Yes it's a small van and there are other operators with larger buses, but I would take Alternative Routes over them any day. The smaller group makes things much more personal and enjoyable, and we were able to get insights and recommendations from Ian that you wouldn't get in a larger group tour. The van was still very comfortable and I loved the scenery printed on the exterior and all the photos from past guests pinned to the roof inside!

In summary, if there's one tour you do in Nova Scotia, make it this one. Thanks to Ian for making our day so enjoyable and thanks to Sam for setting up such a great company, would love to see the same sorts of experiences made available in other cities!

Ian was out tour guide and we thoroughly enjoyed him! He was knowledgeable and charming, with a great sense of humor.

Head a fantastic tour with Karen. She was knowledgeable, charming and very flexible, always willing to accomodate special requests.
The tour itself gives a great overview of the tourist attractions of the area with the perfect amount of time to yourself in between. You've got beaches, bustling harbour towns and a lot of nature to discover.
Karen had some great tips and recommendations as well and we could have not asked for a better tour guide.

We had another tour company cancel on us the day before we were due to take a trip around Nova Scotia, and we're so glad they did because it meant we got to sign up with Sam instead! The full day tour to Peggy's Cove and Lunenberg was incredibly fun, with great local insight and conversation throughout the day, plus some secret extra stops. Sam clearly knows loads about the area, the history, and adapted the itinerary based on what the group was most interested in. It was great to get to know Sam and our other tourmates, including Lola the tour dog. Forget the larger, less personal tour companies and pick this one!

I’m so glad that we came across Sam’s tours! She shared a ton of interesting information about the region, local businesses, and the places we visited. Perfect way to see what Halifax has in store beyond its downtown core. Sam brought us not only to main sites like Lunenburg and Peggy's Cove, but also to beautiful less well known spots. Most affordable and fun way to explore the area, can't recommend enough!
