I'm updating this review now, after years of it being a 5-star review. I used to be a big fan of this place - but things have been going steadily downhill. I realize that there's a vet shortage, and that people here are probably overworked - but that's no excuse for the way they talk to customers. I'd leave my review alone if it'd only happened once or twice - but I've noticed that every time I've contacted them over the last year, the people I end up talking to are rude, impatient, and seem bothered by the fact that you're even calling for an appointment. I'm done with them, and have moved my dogs elsewhere.

So pleased with the help I received here for Ellie. Dr Rozee and the staff at AMC are top notch.

This place is very greedy they are not there for your pets only for the money, nasty work motto. They are always trying to find a way to make you pay more then you need to.

Behaviour nothing short of unprofessional, thoughtless and immoral. Take your animals to a veterinarian that actually cares about the animal itself, providing treatment and at the very least attempts to assess the situation rather than pushing the concerns of the owner and the pet itself under the rug. Financial means are obviously the only motivation behind these doors! Shameful.

Dr Buick should be fired this place does not care and has a weirdo vet that only lets the animals in one at a time not the people, people have lost there pets here because of malpractice. Do not go here if you care for your pet.

Over 22 years ago we took our cats to Kennedy Animal Hospital, and were always amazed by the service and compassion. Operations and goodbyes were handled with such care. We moved to AMC when they closed and followed the staff. We also received good care. Our cats have fortunately been healthy and we haven't been to AMC much, and knowing the pressure on vet appointments lately we abstained. Instead of receiving notice in advance of a 'use it or lose your space' policy - a review of our file after I requested an appointment was deemed inactive. We were kicked out of the clinic. The receptionist was just the messenger and felt badly, but it's devastating to realize that once you have need for treatment for your pet you can be denied service. This is the entire point of a veterinary clinic. AMC needs to send written notices of this policy in advance - and perhaps let people know what the monthly or annual 'spend' on their animal (s) must be.

It's unfortunate that there are not enough veterinarians, to support the Glace Bay office. It's difficult for me to get to Sydney as I have no car. But I was so greatful when retired Dr. Rozee took on my very sick cat in an emergency situation. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

This hospital is nothing short of amazing!

The staff are kind and helpful they are very knowledgeable and understanding they explain everything in an easy to understand format and will triple check if you have any questions whatsoever.

I cannot recommend the Animal Medical Centre enough. Definitely the best of the best at this location and you will leave knowing your pet got the best care possible.

Don't hesitate choose AMC.

Zero empathy, compassion or concern. Extremely unprofessional to the point of being rude. AMC used to be a 5 star veterinary establishment, since being taken over by a corporation I would rate it negatively if possible. It's hit or miss as to the quality of service any given vet on staff will provide. I sincerely urge you to avoid my mistakes and place your trust elsewhere.

Site says open til 4PM. Went at 2: 30 and they were completely shutdown, with signs saying conflicting hours from the online side but neither should be closed.

The staff here are absolutely great. We unfortunately had to say goodbye to two of our family dogs last week and every staff member we spoke to was very sweet and compassionate. I would also like to name Dr Nicholson, as he was great with easing our minds and talking us through what to expect.

The staff also mailed us some paw prints in memory of our dogs and we love them.

Overall, they’ve been great to our dogs and continue to be great to the other two dogs we still have. We will be back to continue the care of our pets!

(Edited) We have been clients of AMC for almost six years with our two cats (one has since passed) and French Bulldog. For the first four years AMC, its owner, Dr Rozee, and the entire staff were amazing and helped us, and our Frenchy specifically, with some serious issues/emergencies. However, since the clinic was sold about 1.5 years ago to an Ontario based conglomerate the clinic, service and many of the staff members - who are mostly new because most of the former staff left due to horrendous management and policy changes - are unforgivably bad. I understand that COVID made things challenging for some time, though the policies implemented made things exponentially worse on clients and staff, but there is no excuse. It is nearly impossible to contact them by phone, appointments are at least 3-4 weeks out, pet supplies - specifically, dietary food for our Frenchy - are rarely in stock and there seems to be little if any compassion from the staff anymore. Just this past week our Frenchy appeared to injury his eye - his good one, the other was almost lost to an ulcerated abrasion four years ago - so we tried to get him seen and examined. My wife spent three hours calling before someone answered. When she explained the issue, and mentioned his previous eye injury to highlight our concern, she was made to send pictures via email to have them reviewed before the clinic would commit to seeing him. We provided the pictures via email, along with commentary, within 20 minutes and waited days without a reply/response. When my wife called today for an update she was told someone left a message for an appointment earlier in the day. Neither my wife or I received a call nor a voice message from "Lisa" regarding the appointment - we both checked out call histories and voicemail to confirm - which we obviously missed. The level of care and professionalism at this clinic is now such that I feel uncomfortable bringing our pets to AMC and I would actually advise people to look for another veterinary clinic, either as a new or existing client. It's an absolute shame that after years of amazing care and service, and having spent thousands dollars, if not into the tens of thousands, at this clinic between emergencies, treatments, food, prescriptions and regular care visits that this is what it has come to. I am truly, deeply disappointed in and saddened by the current state of this clinic.

I am appalled at the experience I just had on the phone with the amc. I have been a client over 25 years as were my parents. Up until to-day, I would have to say I was satisfied with the service but that has changed. I called because one of my cats was limping badly and wanted to get him checked out. First there was the implication that because he had not been in for a while that they would not see him. So, when I explained that my other cat had just had major surgery last year, she told me that I could get my cat seen because the other one was on file but it would not be until SEPTEMBER. I could not believe this, I was very frustrated and I may have been speaking loudly as I could not get my head around the fact that after all these years they would not give me even a little courtesy of seeing my cat. I asked if there was any where else I could take my cat and she told me that no one was taking new clients but maybe if I went to Baddeck or North Sydney they might take him. She also told me that I did not have to speak to her like I did (?) implying that I was insolent or mean which I was not - I was so frustrated and surprised at the attitude and information she was giving me. So, I asked to speak to a manager who said that the hospital was now only an emergency clinic and if my
cat was emergency they might be able to squeeze him in. My cat was limping with no signs of chronic illness so I doubt they would have taken
him. I was so upset with the treatment I received. I have since found another venue to take my cat and all my other cats and anymore in the future. I did not have to go further than Sydney as the first representative implied that I would have to do. My appointment is within the week. The representative was pleasant and I explained the whole situation to her.
I have never posted publicly about anything but this is so out of the box that I had to hope people would stop supporting AMC until they learned that treating people and their pets with respect is fundamental to having a good community business and relationship. I just cannot understand what happened to them. It used to be a pleasure to take my pets to them. Now I need a suit of armor to protect myself and my pets against their attitudes and their refusal to show any respect or empathy for the clients they serve.

First visit with new pup, she had no issues with going in staff are friendly and will answer all your questions.dr Buick was excellent and as always knowledgeable and answered all my question thank you

Found a cat, so I took it in for vaccinations and anti-baby surgery.

The staff was super friendly, and Smokey was happy as a clam when I picked her up. Considering why it was there, I'd say they do a delicate and precise job.

I'm coming back for the follow-up vaccine (s) for certain.

Before I brought my new puppy home I called to book an appt for her vaccinations. This is my first puppy. They didn't know if they could schedule me in. I was told if they did it might be a long wait. They didn't give me an appt but said they would call me back. They took my name and number and I never heard from them again. Really! No vaccinations for puppies. How can you say you care about the health of animals? I called another clinic in Sydney and was booked in right on schedule. They don't refuse or delay puppy vaccinations. Thank you Keltic Creatures.

I love love everyone at AMC! Special shout out to Bridget, Dr. Buick, Dr. Darren and Dr. Dave Rozee, you guys are fantastic and I would never take my fur babies anywhere else. You guys sure know how to smoothly pass the baton without missing a beat! Thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart for you TLC!

Thank you to Dr. Buchanan for meeting me immediately after calling on a Saturday night after hours to euthanize my sweet pug of 13 years who's health had deteriorated quickly. He was compassionate and caring and quick to act. God bless

I live in Halifax my dog broke her leg while we were visiting family there they never set the dogs leg back in place right when we got to Halifax they wanted to cut her leg off but the vet up here ended up saved it all because it was not set right in the cast.so this vet cost us around 4000$ cuz they did not know what they were doing

Buyers beware when purchasing food from AMC. Their quality control is extremely poor. I spend $175 on bags of food for my dog due to his allergies and went in today to buy Royal Canin hypoallergenic food. Upon getting home, I realized the vaccuum seal was compromised due to a hole in the bag so I went back to exchange it. The only other bag they had in stock had even more holes in it and they offered a mere 20% off of the purchase. The lady working reluctantly made an effort to resolve the matter but was quite snotty about the whole situation and not taking the compromised food seriously. I have a funny feeling those bags will make it back on their shelf so buyer beware! Sydney animal hospital ensures all food is vaccuum sealed before and during their stock's shelf life and that is where I will be shopping from here on.

My experience at the AMC recently was great! I did not have to wait long with my 2 dogs and Dr Jess O'Keefe gave excellent care. She was very thorough, obviously loves animals, and patiently answered my numerous questions. I recommend her highly!
