Avis Car Rental

Fast and efficient service at check out and check in. Agent gave us some driving instruction at pickup because the vehicle was a Tesla Model 3… she/we had some difficulties finding some of the features of the car. It was nice to have the personalized “driving test” experience before leaving the lot.

Personally, I’d not recommend renting an EV at the Halifax airport. The Tesla is a nice car to drive but finding fast chargers is problematic. Enfield Irving Big Stop (just north of the airport) seemed to be the only pace with Tesla Superchargers but even these took close to 50 minutes to charge 50% - and you’re looking at about a 10% burn to get back into Halifax. At least these seem to be free. Update - the Tesla chargers at Enfield are not free, we got a notice from Avis a couple of weeks after we returned with a bill of around $65 for two charges.

Most of our trip had to be planned around finding chargers. We used Switch which had a few Level 2 chargers in the Halifax area - all of these were slow with about an 8% charge over 60 minutes… if they weren’t under repair. They were often in weird places. The Flo network might have faster chargers. Prepare to spend your vacation time looking for chargers. It would be awesome if Avis recommended a charging company as a starting point to make the search for chargers easier. The agent did tell us that there were even fewer chargers in Cape Breton. We did a drive out to Peggy’s Cove and then had to drive out to Enfield the next day to charge the car somewhat efficiently. What we saved minimally in gas costs we lost in time waiting for the car to charge.

Staff for my rental were friendly and helpful, but the car I received had bald tires. First time I have had a bad experience with Avis.

Both the employee and pick up and drop off were super helpful and nice. I can’t actually think of how we could have had a better experience. The staff at the Halifax airport are 10/10

Dealing with Avis was a breeze. Online booking and processing my information prior to pick up was simple and easy. The customer service at the Halifax airport was very courteous and helpful during pickup and drop off. I will definitely use Avis again.

We were very pleased with the friendly, quick service we received at the Halifax Avis service desk. We were on our way so fast!

Long wait times, charged for extra KMs but was not informed that the 1,400 km is per week and not for the 5 days I was renting for, given a hard time when splitting bills personal vs corporate (when I got the car key, i specifically asked if this would be possible and the lady did not mention then that the personal and corporate card both need to have same person name).

Booking was very straight-forward online and the car was exactly as described. Very friendly and helpful service from all employees. I would definitely rent with Avis again!

A little pricy. Gas needle gage was malfunctioning which wasted a lot of time but the staff was very understanding and created no hassles at the time of returning the vehicle. Overall a very good experience.

Except for overall high rental cost (6days $1810 Cad) for both full insurance cover (no excess) and a vehicle (although comfortable and nice to drive) was high on consumption (Chrysler 300S), there were no hassles or delays in pickup/drop off.
Reliable/respectful drivers should be rewarded, as in a proportionate discount.
Vehicles would then be cared for more by the driver and passengers. Maintenance costs would be reduced.

An Update I was Contacted and Received A refund in a timely manner, I look forward to the next time I have to rent a car. Not happy, rented a car for a week, paying an arm and a leg for it and it over heated leaking coolant, was 3 hours away from where it was picked up, lost 3 days of vacation because I was worried about driving it with a leak, took back on day 4 wasting half a day, Not Impressed, I will Never Rent Again From this company, and I recommend anyone looking to rent, before leaving with car check all fluid levels, Just disgusting

Not a good June 2023 rental experience. Arrived at Halifax airport at 1: 30 AM. An on-time flight with a pre-scheduled vehicle set up on the Avis website. We arrived at the Avis counter, and no one was there costing me a hotel night waiting for Avis personnel to return to work at 6: 00 AM. I've been a preferred member for over 20 years; this has never happened before. They are supposed to stay until the last flight, poor at best.

Very rude front desk staff. Vehicle was damaged in the hood and dirty inside. Will take my business somewhere else next time.

Extremely helpful staff. We had special no scent requirements which we communicated ahead of time. They were very responsive to my calls and did a great job helping us get the car as scent free as possible.

Very pleased with my experience at YHZ. My car was ready when I landed, transaction time at the counter was minimal being Avis preferred.
Had to drop off later than expected and someone was still at the counter and remembered me!?

When I accidentally left my kindle in the car they promptly found it. Very happy with the entire experience.

Very frustrating experience - staff were great at pickup - I paid for roadside assistance / coverage. Had a flat tire while driving, called for roadside and was quoted 90 minutes for help to arrive. Two hours later no one had arrived. Called back and they said that I had never called in the first place and that I would have to wait 90 mins for help to arrive. Twenty minutes later they called back and said actually no one was coming and I would have to deal with it myself. So we changed the tire, got it patched, and continued on our trip. Upon return, I told the drop off staff person about the patched tire and they said they would take care of it from here. Staff at the desk were great and offered a refund on the roadside (because no one came.) but the refund hasn't come through a month later. Finally, I get a letter from Avis saying I owe $34.20 MORE due to "Emergency Roadside Towing Costs and Administrative Costs". When I call the number provided, every option on the menu (even the options for "Customer Service") patch me directly to emergency roadside assistance and they start asking what car I'm driving and where I need help. This is really frustrating.

Excellent service at the counter and car return.very friendly and prompt staff. The manager Tara Ellis and staff including Nicole goes the extra mile to ensure customers are satisfied -I would highly recommend her team to others

We booked a car for fifteen days. On arrival the counter agent was not helpful or interested in discussing alternate vehicles. She made it appear that we should be lucky we have a vehicle at all. We ended up with a sub-standard car for the price, with no consideration for the fact that I have rented with Avis since 1995.

We were out in Halifax to deliver our son to university. Having been to the city a number of times, I can say that the pre-check in at Avis made it the smoothest and fastest of all the times (10+) we have rented cars in that airport. Being the busiest weekend of the year, we were only able to book the "Manager's Surprise". It was a great VW Jetta with room enough in the trunk for our son's 3 huge bags for his year at school. I'll use Avis in Halifax from now on.

Liars, cheaters, completely unprofessional. Rogue company. Fraudsters. Charged extra for a day after telling me there will be no charge for returning an hour later! Returned only 2 minutes late! No refunds, no apologies. Never again.

Avis is the best out there, fast friendly service! Great clean vehicles and lots of choose from I travle international quite a lot same great service in Australia, Hungary, South Korea as you get in the states!

The staff at the Avis rental facilti at Stanfield airport in Halifax was superb! The quality of the vehicule was also topnotch.

Very bad service, I reserved a vehicle at Halifax airport and when I arrived they would not give me the vehicle, they told me I had to put 500$ on the same visa which they didn’t tell me at the time of reservation. I was stranded at the Halifax airport. Had to pay a taxi 300$ to get to my destination. This is very bad service. Do NOT book with Avis.

Can't say enough good things about the experience. The vehicle was better than expected, the ease of pick up and drop off is 10/10. The staff both at pick up and drop off are super friendly and extremely helpful. Would highly recommend.

Have been renting with Avis for over 7 years now and this is the worst experience I have had so far. The brown Indian guy at the front desk needs some serious training in customer service. He was very rude and unapologetic. Would definitely wont recommend Avis at the Halifax Stanfield airport location.

Top dollar for an over the hill car!

Whilst the staff and collection process were fine, the car was considerably less than the "Ford Edge" it was sold as.

A Mitsubishi RVR. I'm assuming the RVR is abbreviation for " rotten vehicle ride".

Horrendous road noise, constantly rattling dashboard and a very unreliable fuel gauge.

If you walk out to the lot and find one of these waiting for you, do yourself a favour, go back to the desk and upgrade!

The service was great both getting and returning the vehicle. The vehicle was clean and appeared to be well maintained. The only complaint was the price was a bit high for what we were renting.

Stupid expensive. 10 days for $2k, no insurance added. Buick encore is small. Service people.are good. I can see if you driving insane amounts.sure.but just getting around halifax buy a used car for less.
