Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake Hotel

I stayed in Room 709 at the BWP Chocolate Lake Hotel for one night from Jan 2nd to 3rd. My overall experience was excellent, with only a few minor blips.

The daytime front desk attendant was very friendly and kind. The other employee who was at the desk during the daytime was also very bubbly and warm (her geometric-pattern blouse was gorgeous!). I have absolutely no customer-service-related complaints; they certainly do customer service well!

The room, upon initial observation, looked comfortable and reasonable in accommodation. The bed was oh so comfy and I never wanted to leave! The complimentary teas and coffees were pleasant. The citrus soaps in the bathroom were aromatic and felt divine on the skin.

My only issues with the room were: the ceiling fan in the bathroom didn't work (and steam not being able to escape was causing orange mold to start spotting on the ceiling) ; the bathroom sink must've been clogged, since the water drained very slowly; there was a very peculiar smell in the room (kind of like smoke), but it was very faint and easy to ignore; my sinuses were congested for most of my stay, so I assume the air-con/vents may have needed a deeper cleaning.

In the evening, I ordered this delish maple curry chicken penne dish from the hotel's restaurant, with a bottle of one of my fav wines, Nova 7. The prices were very reasonable (only about $10 more than I would expect at any ordinary restaurant). I do wish I could've had the order brought to the room; I was super tired after the day of travelling, and definitely didn't look my best. However, I was fine with going down to the restaurant if that were easier for the staff, even if I worried about my fatigued and disheveled appearance.

The restaurant staff were busy yet courteous, and the hostess (I assume) was absolutely genteel. During breakfast (which was plentiful in its selection), there was this very sweet lady attending, who definitely added a bit of sunshine into the room!

Overall, my experience at the Chocolate Lake Hotel was quite enjoyable, with only a few inconsequential issues. Thank you for the wonderful experience and I hope to stay there again soon!

This hotel is really outdated, we were put on the 8 th floor and the bathroom was very smelly upon opening the window there was no screen, I could have thrown a human out of it, not safe at all, reported the problem on checkout … not interested

Great hotel, beautiful views of the lake, and Halifax skyline, friendly staff. Nice when you don't to stay in the heart of downtown but still be just a close drive from the centre. You have a beautiful location on a lake overlooking the skyline.

This was the best experience I have had with a hotel and its service. The restaurant in the lobby was amazing. The cook on this evening was amazing with his new Jalapeño burger.

Tonight we ordered chicken nachos from the Lakeside Bar & Grill and the service was excellent! The nachos were great! Their nachos had generous toppings of everything you can image and every chip was coated with goodness! We didn’t have the chance to enjoy the patio; which has spectacular views of the lake, but that is definitely next on our list! Highly recommend checking out the Lakeside Bar & Grill!

Stayed for 1 night for our Wedding Anniversary, booked a 1 king bed with lakeview but upon checking in, they upgraded our room into a suite for no additional fee! Staffs are amazing, place is very quiet and peaceful. Room is very clean, well maintained and smells so good! I know where to book now for our future staycations in Halifax!

We found a small rat in the room hiding behind the TV cabinet. Our infant was playing on the floor while the rat passed near him. The fridge in the room was not cleaned, there were 2 take out containers in the fridge which seemed to be from prior guest. We forgot a baby feeding bottle in the room, left several messages to lost and found department but a call was never returned back. We went in person and had the housekeeping check for the missing bottle and finally they found it.

The rooms are nice. Beds comfy and bathrooms nice. Although the housekeepers need to be trained better. Last year, there were half drank bottles of pop left in the fridge, and this time, a box of pizza was left. When i looked at the ac im unsure if i was seeing dirt or mold. And when i turned the tv on, i got a black screen, which looked like a Windows error. I asked front dest 3 times to have someone take a look. No one came to look. And i only realized it was the guide menu until i decided to hope for the best and scroll the channels. Another thing is that the arcade sign says that the arcade closes at 11. The token machine shuts down at 10 50. The machines shut down at 11 55. They should really shut down at 11 since the sign says cloes at 11

Large and tidy rooms (rooms with a view of the bathing lake), clean bathroom, nice service (we lacked towels that were delivered directly). Good location - in about 10 minutes in the city center or in the shopping mall. The breakfast buffet is ok - we were missing some fresh things (sausage, cheese) as well as fresh fruit (mixed fruit was only available in plastic cans, for example). The air conditioning in the hallway was definitely way too loud (why do you even need air conditioning in the hallway at night?), the lower three floors are right next to the noisy parking lot - recommendation from floor 4 in the main building.

Loved our stay. Good location, a large, comfortable, and spotless room!

Stayed here during Quilt Canada 2023. Beautiful location and our room was overlooking the lake. The staff were very friendly and helpful if needed. The restaurant had great food and friendly staff as well.

A motel like hotel with clean rooms and providing complimentary hot breakfast. Enjoyed the room with a good lake view. The check in was not pleasant. Checked in an hour after the regular check in time, was told the lake view room I booked was not ready. The front desk person was trying to talk me into check into a downgraded non-lake view room, I firmly rejected.had some one who has more responsibility stepped in, and check us in my lake view room right way. On the second day, there was some event going on, all the parking spaces was full, event participants even parked in no parking aeras. That was not very convenient for the hotel guests. The hotel is dated, was trying slide open the lower part of the window, the sliding panel fell off the rails. A side door's lock was not working, leaving the side door open all the time, a security harzard. The sound isolation was very bad. The second day was a rainy day, have to stay in the room, a couple of kids upstairs had been pounding the wood floor all day long.

Nice spot. Front desk was difficult to deal with. Had to request late check out 4 times. They still didn't record it. Other issues too.

Beautiful hotel. We had a big window with a great view of the lake. A big grassy area with chairs and a bunch of picnic tables to enjoy by the lake.

This place is great. Our room is comfortable and the food is excellent. We love the location on the lake and a bit away from downtown. Very happy that we decided to stay here for our Halifax visit

Our first impression of this hotel was not the best, from the outside a little outdated and run down. Turns out the rooms are super clean and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The staff were all so kind especially Kolisha, she went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed. Looking forward to coming back!

Decent hotel, the breakfast was good as a full on breakfast with lots of choices and the menu changes each day. Only downside was we went to eat at the restaurant and we waited a long time and waitstaff would go by us over and over and didn't say anything even like "we'll be right with you". So we left

This is our 1st choice of places to stay in the greater Halifax - Dartmouth area. It has been recently renovated, is very clean & quiet, has comfortable beds, staff is very courteous, there is on site free parking, an inside pool and exercise room & their included breakfasts have a variety of good choices.
There is an outer deck overlooking Chocolate Lake, where one can have their meal on a nice day. They also have a section where dogs are permitted for those who travel with them. This location is within about a 10 minute easy drive to the Bayers Lake area, as well as the hospitals & universities.

Disappointing visit for a business meeting. Food was just okay. The meeting room was very nice and overlooking the lake. Staff seemed disorganized or poorly trained.

I don’t know what happened to your housekeeping, there were some black water in the trash can, an apple in the refrigerator, some coffee grounds in the coffee machine，and dirty water in the tray for cups. If only one of those happened, I understand. But all of these things happen in my room, it means something.

Great location, a bit removed from town but right on a lake. Clean and comfy rooms. Good breakfast.

Beautiful and clean hotel, helpful staff they have, special shout out to the guy that helped me out finding the guests laundry. Excellent breakfast everyday for the 3 breakfasts we had.
