My wife and I decided to stay here for our first vacation without kids. It also happened to be our 20th wedding anniversary week. The owners and their dog are supper nice and accommodating. They stopped by a couple of times to make sure that we had all that we needed and were lacking for nothing. Along with the serenity of the location and the stunning sunsets, what more could you want for a relaxing and restful vacation.

Amazing place! The staff is fabulous! The Domes are an amazing experience and the grounds are clean and full of many opportunities such as making or canoeing. You can make the day perfect with a trip around the inlet (rentals are cheap) and you can have a perfect end to the day with an evening bonfire (can purchase a bucket of would). In the dome, you can stargaze as you relax and take it all in. Our team/family at PhotographingInTheMoment (insta) absolutely loved the experience and will definitely be back!

I strongly do not recommend this resort. Totally unjustified value for your money. Advertised as being a luxurious camping as in Glamorous Camping (Glamping) … not exactly what we experienced, to say the least.

We spent two unpleasant nights here in July:
1. It has not been a good sleeping experience due to the earwig infestation that kept me, my wife and my two daughters awake for several hours each of the two nights of our stay at the Blue Bayou resort (dome #19). My youngest had one earwig crawling on her head while sleeping and I also got one on my pillow. They were everywhere: floor, walls, windows, sink, table, shower, beds! We killed over a hundred specimens in total. The day after the first night, I informed the owner of the unacceptable situation. He told me that the three domes next to ours (#16-17-18) had experienced the same kind of infestation in the previous weeks but by his own admission, they forgot to treat our dome! He therefore asked an employee to come and treat the inside of our dome with a product while we were inside …The whole thing turned out to be ineffective because the following night, the quantity of insects was unchanged or even higher. The owner even dared to tell me that we weren't the only ones to have earwigs in our dome at the moment but that we were the only ones complaining! The owner seems not to care at all given the fact that the problem has even been known for more than 2 years if we rely on other comments left here before.
2. Our dome was also very warm during the day feeling like a green house. There is no AC and the fan provided clearly doesn’t do the job. Better hope for a cool night otherwise it stays quite warm inside the dome at night. The sheets are minimalist and uncomfortable so you are probably going to push them away anyway.
3. We’ve been told that one cool thing about those domes is the transparent ceiling so you can watch stars at night. Another deception, it's been impossible for us to enjoy the sky during our stay. Our supposedly transparent ceiling was burned out by the sun so everything was blurry.

Seriously, simply shameful and unacceptable.

The dome was really cozy and comfortable. Such an enchanting experience to take a pause while sitting aside the lake gazing at the stars, have a fire and connect with the elements with all the amenities of a cabin on our travels through Cape Breton.
The weather was perfect and so was our stay.
It was great to exchange conversation with the creator & owner of these beautiful customized sleep domes. Would definitely book again!

Merci encore!

Had a great experience and would love to visit again! Place is quite easy to find and the geo domes were quite luxurious. The dome was clean and comfortable. Each dome has its own firepit and the water is just meters away!

We loved our trip to the Blue Bayou Report! The host was amazing and responded right away as soon as we had any questions. The dome was cozy and warm and had an amazing view.

We loved our stay here! Staying on the cabot trail I think it's definitely best to get the camping experience, and dome/cabin camping lets you do that even if you flew in and don't have all your gear. Even though our tent wasn't technically 'waterfront' we could see the ocean from our bed. Would definitely recommend. More pros:
- Good working heater
- ac/ air filter
- Kettle and mugs
- private fire pit
- friendly owner

There is only one issue - that I'm surprised no one is talking about. Each tent comes with a 3 piece bathroom which is very nice and convenient- but not the most sanitary. There is only a wall (that does not extend all the way up or across) that separates the toilet and the bedroom. It faces the tent wall, which is quilted fabric. Knowing that a lot of people flush with the lid up, those particles are going everywhere and cannot be washed out of the fabrics. Also, the shower floor is flush with the wood flooring so we got water all over the floor despite our best efforts. I really hope they consider adding a door and ceiling to this space to preserve its cleanliness and longevity!

Enjoyed our stay very much. The estuary (really more of a salt water lake) that the resort is on is beautiful and a wonderful place to kayak, stand up paddleboard, and canoe. The swimming was also excellent. Spotted an eagle nesting across the estuary from the resort. We had a dome with two queen beds and it never seemed cramped for three of us, despite one rainy, windy day.

Great experience, the domes are well though out. Make sure to plan ahead for food as there isn't much close by and what is closes early.

Great place, this was a last minute booking for us as our hotel reservation was mixed up. We ended up getting there with nothing and the local restaurants were all closed. The owner bent over backwards to scrape together food, charcoal and even lawn chairs. Fantastic experience. Stephan was great

Small and friendly resort. RV lots a re well spaced. Semi private. Close to lots of interesting places including black Creek beach (which was outstanding!). Kayaks and canoes available to tour the nearby lagoon

The owner was super welcoming and the Dome rooms were fantastic. A great spot to spend the night!

Awesome place and a good location! We got the boogie shack and it was so cute and had kayaks included which was nice
30 September 2021 23:39
Wanted to try the whole flapping concept and I was so glad that I did. This place was absolutely brilliant. Picturesque environment, the amenities in the room were excellent. You get to enjoy the water and fishing and being pretty much in the middle of the trail you can explore either side on a day

A very enjoyable and unique experience. The owner was super friendly and very informative. We found it online and on a whim went to have a look at it around 12, the owner, Stephane, allowed us to check in right away. The property is beautiful with kayaks and paddle boards available to rent. We will definitely return.
20 September 2021 14:06
Beautiful resort! We stayed in one of the domes for 5 nights. Full bathroom with hot water and small kitchenette to clean your dishes and boil a kettle for tea. Access to paddles boards and kayaks to tour the area. We paddled to the beach for sunset one evening, however you do not need to as there are beautiful sunsets right from the beach. The owners are extremely friendly. They will stop by to say hi and give you to local insights to lesser known areas and hidden gems. We cannot wait to go back!

Beautiful campgrounds. Owners are awesome.they go above and beyond. I would highly recommend the Blue Bayou to everyone. Love this place.

Had a great 2 days here, it was my wife's birthday and she really wanted to try staying in these domes, because "glamping" and it was actually awesome. The south harbor it sits on was very calm and warm, perfect for kayaking.plus there's a bunch of things to do within a 45 minute drive. Definitely will be back next year!
12 September 2021 3:38
We stayed for 2 nights at the bayou and it was one of the best experiences! The dome was very clean, cozy and charming! Stephane the owner, always made sure we had everything we needed and was very hospitable, we didn't have chairs to sit outside so he provided us with some! He played some guitar around the fire! The kayak/paddle board experience was amazing and added even more to the experience with an amazing view! We would definitely return and recommend the Blue Bayou Resort!

During the spring of 2019, operating as All Cape Electric, my crew and I provided extensive electrical work and materials for Blue Bayou Resort. We passed several Nova Scotia Power inspections and were approaching our final inspection when payment issues forced us to cease operations. Myself and my legal council have attempted to contact the owners on multiple occasions to resolve this issue and have recieved no response. Currently we are owed in excess of sixteen thousand dollars plus costs. I have a construction lien in place on the property and will be forced to pursue further legal action. I have decided to write this review to bring public attention to the matter with the hope that I may receive a response from the owners. Thank you for reading!

The domes were really cute and I enjoyed having access to the Canoes, paddle boards and Kayaks. The view was also beautiful.

It is a bit pricey for what you get. I think a mini fridge or a microwave would of made the experience better. The beds could of also included more pillows or blankets.

The Blue Bayou is so beautiful. Wonderfull facility layout with friendly staff and owners. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back next year.
25 August 2021 15:19
We really enjoyed our stay. Great accommodations and very comfortable bed. If it is really hot during the day make sure to leave your windows open in the dome because it can get quite hot. We enjoyed kayaking on the lake right up to South Harbour beach.
Great spot to explore the Cabot Trail and very close to the ziplining.

We stayed here this past weekend the owners are very nice and accommodate you when needed the over all experience was good but there is deffentally room for improvement we really enjoyed the teepee experience my daughter and her girlfriend got to stay in one and than we were able to use the other one for a fire as it was raining on the Friday night so that help keep us dry. We had a dome tent set up in my daughter teepee sp they could stay dry and bug free lol.we loved the water option that is where we spent the majority of our time canoeing and kayaking water can get rough but over all it was amazing expecally on Sunday night it was a sheet of glass and we could watch the sunset.
Things that could of made our experience better would of been less bugs lol I spent alot of time killing spiders and earwigs and other bugs one night I killed 20 or more befor I went to bed I could not even understand where they were coming from
Sand ot side the domes made it harder to keep the floors in the domes clean I had to sweep many times a day just so we could keep up with it.
The water in the showers were somthing to be desired lol it was hot one min and freezing the next I had about 2 min of hot water befor it would turn cold and I would have to turn it off and wait than back on for 2 more min needless to say they were very quick showers.
Overall experience was good but like I said there is a bit of improvement for sure. They are just minor small issues that we had but somthing people may want to know befor going we truly loved the experience and the owners are top notch.

Forest camping site. Dome accommodation, good beds, toilet, bonfire place and BBQ stand. You bring your own supplies.
23 August 2021 1:49
The dome glamping tents are not well insulated, accumulate humidity throughout the day while you are away, and is cold and humid at night. The floor is concrete without flooring so make sure you bring thick socks or slippers. Shower barely has 2 minutes of warm water, the hair dryer does not dry hair and the heater to keep the dome warm isn’t very effective in doing so. A bit of a bad experience. Location is cute.
19 August 2021 23:49
Great stay. Access to kayaks, which we loved, domes were fun and a comfortable. Our first night was pretty rainy, but I woke up in the middle of the night, rubbed my eyes, and I could see the stars above us, from bed. Owners were friendly, while also giving guests space to enjoy their time privately. All domes are faced so that you're not looking into each other's spaces at night, which allowed us to sleep with the curtains open. No complaints - would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a 'staycation'. We'll be back!

Excellent! Worth the money paid for. The owner is so friendly and helpful. The lake on the property is gorgeous!

We spent two nights in one of the domes in early October.

Communications around the booking were great—quick replies and all questions answered.

We arrived at 7pm after a long day of driving and hiking and were checked in immediately. Stephane was friendly and efficient. He showed us our dome and explained how the propane tank for the hot water worked and then brought us an electric heater. We felt welcomed and taken care of. I had a feeling he would be very responsive to any issues we might be having. Despite the nights being chilly and windy the inside of the dome was very warm with the heater on. The beds were comfortable.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you are camping, and camping comes with is own little “discomforts”: 1.due to the high winds the water heater didn’t work, and the water was ice cold. We were told they would be working on solving this issue in the near future 2. Just like in an actual tent—don’t leave your belongings where they touch the walls if it is raining. I did move ours away from the walls, but the welcome mat by the door got soaked as I didn’t think to move it! 3. I wish there were more than two hooks to hang our clothes on—both days we hiked in the rain and came back to the dome quite wet! 4. If you have someone sleeping on the floor on an air mattress in October—it will be cold, no matter what, as the floor is cement. But there is space for an air mattress, if you move the table and chairs to the side.

The price seems a little bit too high at $200/night, but we got a 25% discount for “weekdays” during fall, which seemed slightly more reasonable. But it is “Covid times” and I’m sure everything is more challenging for the owners. It is a new place. It will take a bit more time for the owners to have everything running very smoothly, but the potential is there. Friendly, hard working people, great location, beautiful, serene spot. We had a great time and would definitely come again.

I gave 4 out of 5 only because of the price to facility ratio. Not having hot, or even warm, water for the shower in October, after long hikes in the rain, was a huge disappointment, even if I understand the reasoning behind it.

Amazing and relaxing experience! Located in such a beautiful area with super friendly resort owners. Plus the kayak excursion was so much fun! Highly recommend.

I worked as an electrical apprentice at Blue Bayou when the camp site was being built. We were hired to wire the place, but had to stop half way through the project due to payment issues. The owners are still refusing payment and have not responded to any attempts to resolve the issue. As a Cape bretoner, its disappointing that a business owner from out of province can get away with doing stuff like this to local businesses on the island.

Amazing place to stay! Close to so many beautiful trails, Stephane
and Shanshan are wonderful hosts.cant wait to go again!

Although I personally haven't stayed here yet, but will be very soon, upon arriving for our kayak rentals the owner and his wife greeted us promptly and made us feel so welcome! Blue Bayou is set in one of the most beautiful corners of South Harbour, the domes are gorgeous inside, and it feels like a tight knit village.

They need to fix their hot water and for $230 i think they should give firewood for free. The place is clean. And the owners are very accommodating. I love the place though. But i can't live without hot water in a cold morning.

One of the best camping experiences of my life. The domes exceeded my expectations! The new flooring in them was absolutely stunning, as well as the comfort of the beds, the drapes, and the addition of the cute small table. Stephan and his wife were so accommodating! They brought us fire wood every night, stopped by to hang out, and let us use the paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes for free! We are hoping to make this an annual trip.

Went with a friend and we had a great time. Purchased the kayaking/whale watching package and it was so much fun! We kayaked at sunset, both of us we novice kayakers, and were very comfortable. The domes were very clean and loved watching the stars through the skylight! The whale watching tour was amazing, my cheeks were sore from laughing! It was the first year operating Blue Bayou and you expect some glitches but I couldn't find any! The owners are amazing!
