Bluenose II Restaurant

Our server Thomas was very friendly and efficient. The breakfast was delicious, would highly recommended the Bluenose II restaurant to my friends and family.

I was very disappointed in the service here. We made a reservation and upon arrival we had no cutlery, which is fine, however; the manager stated to the staff that we had none and we still didn’t receive any until half way through our appetizer.
The staff was very disengaging, cold and we’re of little help. The three servers spent most of the night leaning on the bar and talking. We were never even asked how the food tasted. We weren’t offered drinks and weren’t checked on at all. Getting the bill was an ordeal also. The washrooms were disgusting and full of flies in December. I’ve always been curious to try this place and was excited. The food was mainly good, besides the Montreal smoked meat sandwich one of our party had, the meat was inedible. Ultimately, the horrible service will keep me away indefinitely.

Best eggs Benedict I have had in my 45 years. Thought salad was an odd side. But enjoyed it

Nous étions déjà venus au Bluenose II lors d'un précédent séjour dans la région d'Halifax. Nous avions commandé des épluchures de pommes de terre au fromage et des poutines, qui étaient vraiment délicieuses.
Nous y sommes retournés cette année fin octobre pensant que nous allions passer un bon moment et nous régaler. Erreur, le restaurant était d'une tristesse! Et quelle déception pour les plats. Une poutine qui était pire que celle du Mac Do, honteux et les épluchures de pommes de terre n'en parlons pas. Bref, grosse déception, pour sûr nous n'y retournerons pas!
Heureusement le serveur était adorable et il ne nous a pas fait payer les poutines. Il s'est excusé à plusieurs reprises.

The bluenose is a diner that always has great service and a great atmosphere and the food is consistently good diner food. Nothing fancy here, everything is pleasantly and satisfyingly as expected!

I was looking forward to this restaurant due to other reviews. Unfortunately the restaurant had very poor service at lunch time. Got gestured to seat ourselves at a table, didn't get any attention for a while. When we ordered drinks, staff forgot it, table was ignored for a while, they didn't refill water, then immediately after finishing food, they gave the bill to rush us out. There was lots of space in the restaurant. They hovered over us looking down at the tip being entered into the credit card machine. Food was okay otherwise.

2023-Oct: Me suis arrêté pour déjeuner, steak & œufs. Steak pas mangeable, 50% de nerfs/gras.

Stopped for breakfast and ordered a steak&eggs: worst piece of meat ever, lots of fat and nerves, only 50% was good for consumption, the rest wasn’t eaten. Gave the waitress a good tip as she was stuck in a rush and still provided excellent service.

2021-Oct: Excellent service, serving had a good size.fish and chips was delicious but the chowder had no taste at all, seek somewhere else.

Service excellent, Fish and Chios portions bien balancées avec de grandes pièces de poisson. Le Clam Chowder n’a aucun goût, allez voir ailleurs.

Fast and friendly service. The food was great, had a 2 piece fish and chips and they were big pieces not little nuggets.

Just ok. We had lobster dinner and Digby scallops. Nothing extraordinary or memorable. We tried white wine from Woolfville- not recommended. We won’t be back.

Our first night in Halifax. Great lobster? The wait staff was so great. Show my son some of the cool wall hangings. And made it such a personal experience.

Got the Nova Scotia Dinner ($40) which came with clam chowder, a whole lobster, potato salad, and rice pudding dessert. Overall, I enjoyed it, but the clam chowder was pretty bland, but adding salt from the shaker fixed it.

This is one busy restaurant, and given the menu, location and quality of food it's no surprise why.
Highly recommend making a reservation no matter what if you're going to have a small group, and you may have to wait even if there's only two of you but it is definitely worth the wait. Have enjoyed every visit and everything that we have ordered each time

I am giving this a 4* because the waitress messed up my order even after repeating it 3 times. I ordered the seafood dish & asked for NO clams the waitress seemed to understood & said she'd give me more shrimps & scallops. My dish came and I got chewy clams that I never wanted to begin with after explaining this to her 3 times. My husband ordered fish & chips which he enjoyed.

Probably the worst restaurant I have been too in years. It was disappointing due to all the positive reviews in the past but you can see recently they are not good reviews. Save your money and go somewhere different. Nothing positive to say.

In town on vacation. Had lunch at the bluenose restaurant. Service was ok and the food was decent. Big portions for your money. We had the lobster roll, chowder and fish cakes. 45mins after we finished lunch, I became very ill and realized I had contacted food poisoning for this restaurant. Very disappointed, especially since we only in town for a few days

I will rate them zero.
We were visiting halifax with 3 young kids. We ordered food for takeout from this restaurant on Thursday July 28th. There was one dish missing from the order. I immediately called restaurant and explained the situation. She said they can refund money via etransfer by tomorrow as they couldn't refund on credit card.
After so many calls and follow up they have not refunded my money.
I spoke with the owner Mr. Leo and found him very rude and egoistic. He lack sense of understanding and customer care. That's how they treat the visitors. He was non apologetic to what his staff did. They ruined our dinner.
He said it is very simple thing for him to do the etransfer and that simple thing is taking him forever to do it.
Please avoid this restaurant and supporting such restaurant who doesn't care about customers, don't accept mistakes and add negative experience to visitors.

Decent family restaurant, not anything experimental, nothing fancy. Good diner/family style food at a good price. It has some touristy fare given its location, but that's ok.

Staff were good. But food is not that tasty. We ordered seafood platter and we didn't like it at all. Lobsters were great. Muscles starters were not great either, very salty and not flavorful. Calamari was good.

We chose this restaurant on our road trip to Nova Scotia to taste fresh and local seafood.
Based on the reviews we came with high expectations and to be honest they meet our expectations. The service was quite nice and friendly.we ordered soup and nachos as an appetizer. The soup was warm and yummy and the nachos were big enough for three people as an appetizer. Our main plates were fish and chips plus a seafood plate and we were satisfied with the meals in terms of quality and quantity. The restaurant itself was cozy and well designed. The only small room for improvement maybe is the washroom cleanliness. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant and if I get a chance to see Halifax again, I will definitely go there.

First time in Nova Scotia and wanted to experience fresh maritime lobster! Did not disappoint. Cooked to perfection. Add a garrison tall ship pale ale and you're as good as gold at this restaurant! Clam chowder was also fantastic!

Staff are super friendly. $40 for lobster dinner was not bad. Ended up with three for the table. We called and was told no reservation but they apparently do but have limited on weekend. I would def.try and make a reservation. We walked up and was lucky and only waited 5 min. All and all a good experience.

Meal was not bad, but as we were sitting talking another waitress came over and asked how much longer we were going to be, as they had a reservation.rude to say the least. I could understand that when they sat us.they give us forewarning.but totally unacceptable

This place that has been est. Since 1964 was a good place to rest up and have breakfast. I ordered the salmon Benny and was not disappointed. The hollandaise sauce was great and eggs nice and runny. The decor was kept the same. Friendly staff and helpful on what to order.

An iconic restaurant that delivers great quality homemade food along with great service. Had the seafood platter and lobster dinner and both were delicious.

Hot hamburger grows hot and delicious and a lot of it. Lemon potatoes were delicious. Panfried haddock was huge and delicious. Is coconut cream pie was homemade and good.

We first got into Halifax and had a great experience here. Good was great ave the server was awesome. Two days later we went there again and sat for an hour waiting for food that would never have come if i didn't get up and complain. The owner said he would go see what happened and never got back to us. We got up and left. That night we decided to order food from there a the food wisely is very good. We only got 2/3 of our meal. Needless to say very disappointed. The owner finally after speaking with him have us $20 back.

Great experience and service! My son was so excited to go to Nova Scotia for lobster. Well it went over so well we had to order a 3rd one for me!

Excellent food, large portions, reasonably priced.
Ate there twice in two days. Wish I had the recipe for their fish cakes; best I’ve ever had! Excellent service, friendly and efficient staff.

I’ve shared my enthusiasm for this restaurant with my Expedia friends, some who’ve dined there as well.

This is a busy place for a reason so worth the wait. Service was friendly and the food was excellent. I had the lobster eggs benedict, fantastic.

Phoned at 5pm on a Saturday to make reservations. I was told the place was empty and they didn't take reservations. Showed up at 7pm. Took a while for our waitress to get our drink order. When she finally came back we were told they were out of Lobster. This is like McDonald' being out of hamburgers. They literally have a giant lobster on their sign advertising their speciality. My wife got the mussels which were good. I settled for a Hot Turkey sandwich. We finished our drinks and waited and waited for at least another beer. The meal finally came and I asked for another beer. My Turkey sandwich was inedible. I thought they were turkey croutons in my sandwich but it appeared to be hardened chunks of turkey. I actually thought I was biting into bone. Left 3/4 of it on the plate. Never got my 2nd beer as the waitress was gone. I ended up phoning the restaurant from our table to ask where my drink was. At least she ended up discounting my "sandwich". I'm not angry but just incredibly disappointed at one of the worst meals of our trip.

Restaurant authentique, simple, convivial et reconfortant. On y sert des plats classiques et du homard (et d'autre fruits de mer) à bon prix.

Le personnel est très amical et compétent. L'ambiance décontractée.

Une belle façon de bien manger tout en évitant les prix gonflés de la zone touristique.

This might look like a dive but it delivered on food and service. Friendly servers and the food was delivered quickly. The portion sizes are very generous and tasty. They don’t skimp on their lobster roll. It’s a must try. Would definitely dine here again when we visit.

As the first seafood stop of my Halifax foodventure, decided to get an order of mussels and the lobster roll.

Unlike the places on the boardwalk, this place is more like a diner - unpretentious, food focused, and overall just delicious.

Don’t expect any sort of fancy ambience while here, but do expect some solidly good food - lobster roll was fantastic (at least compared to Toronto). Might do a round 2 depending on how the week goes.

Had dinner here recently. Service was friendly, but the food was horrible. Calamari was mushy, main courses over cooked and almost not edible, vegetables were not fresh (canned or frozen). Did not want to make a fuss as my server was very nice but the food should have been returned.
Will not be back.

First off we went on labor day, which is just a hard day for any resruarent. Ive worked in the industry for years so I try to be understanding but a few things couldn't be ignored. Our service was incredibly poor. They had no idea how to deal with young kids even though their website says kid friendly. I think I was the only person satisfied with my meal, (who puts that many green olives on nachos? Lucky I like olives lol) no one else at the table enjoyed their food. My partner had the fish tips, which she ended up throwing up a few hours later when she went to work. She was very ill that
night. We can't say 100 percent she was food poisoned but. For anyone reading this you be the judge.

Great place! Got the Eggs Benedict, they were perfectly poached. Sauce was fantastic, this may have been the best Benny I've ever had? ! Prices very worth it.

Service great, facilities clean. Nice cozy atmosphere.

Went here for the lobster dinner. The price was right at about $30.
The meal included clam chowder, potato salad, coleslaw and rice pudding.
The lobster was abysmal.tough, chewy and rubbery! I suspect that they buy pre-cooked and then re-heat.not a good thing to do with lobster. When I queried about this I was told that it was supposed to be this way. FAIL. I vacationed with my lobster fishing family in Cape Breton many a time and practically lived on lobster. The clam chowder was virtually devoid of clams and seemed as though the few tiny morsels I could find were from a can. The rice pudding was terrific. Maybe they should go with Bluenose II Desserts and skip the seafood. Go to McKelvies or 5 Fishermen and pay the extra nickel for great food that is edible.sincerely!

I went there for dinner the other night and wasnt sure what to order. I saw many lobster coming out on plates and noticed they were quite large so I decided to go with the lobster. When my dinner arrived my lobster was so small and when I went to crack open the tail it looked like there was no tail meat at all, so I sent it back. They brought the exact same lobster back to me telling me that during this season the tail curls up inside. So I pulled the tail out and it was still the tiniest tail I'd ever seen, 2 inches long by maybe 1 inch wide at best! I didnt want to send it back again so I sucked up my losses, paid $31 for that and would not recommend this restaurant at all. I drove for 18 hours to get here (from Ontario) and could get better lobster back home for much cheaper! When you have the ocean at your fingertips, I'd assume the lobster would be much better but I! Instead we drove to Peggys Cove and had a much better seafood experience! I got a seafood platter with fresh fish, calamari, baked clams, caesar salad, and shrimp for only $36. I wont be returning because of the food quality. What a HUGE disappointment!

We stopped here on out roadtrip to Nova Scotia to enjoy some seafood (Lobster) to be precise.

This is so far the best seafood I ever had in my whole life. The taste, freshness and simplicity of food with old decor wooden feel of the place mixed with some drinks.

If you don't eat here, you will regret it.

Tip: Make sure to reserve this place and waiting can go very long sometimes.

Great experience, we got too excited and forgot to photograph the lobster but we ordered the lobster benedict as well as the lobster dinner. Flavours were great all around and if you prefer unthickened chowder, this is the place for you!

We innocently came in close to their closing time but our server was great and we never felt rushed.

Really disappointed considering the part of the country that we were in: seafood/crab cakes didn't taste like they were made with seafood or crab, mussels were super salty (they blamed the mussels but we didn't have this problem with fresh mussels we made ourself the day before), and scallops were possibly frozen (based on their texture). There are better choices in town.

Very disappointed with the staff _ Vatsal Patel. Made us wait for almost an hour on my wife's birthday and then refused to arrange table for seven which was already informed to him at the time of booking. We had to make last minute changes and fond some place elsewhere.

Visited this place 3 times in the last 1 week for Breakfast, one of the nicest place downtime to have breakfast and am sure other meals. I had the steak and egg and it was great. Coffee was good too and the staff were nice and polite. Place not congested due to the covid situation. The staff recognised me the next day when I returned for breakfast, tried the pancakes but not as nice as the steak but still great food. I had the corner seat overlooking the road intersections, best seat in the house. Lovely experience I returned 2 more breakfast.

The staff and owner are great.food was excellent. Blue nose burger was tasty and the fries are amazing.and next time I'll get the fish n chips they looked great.calamari was great.but I would have preferred a tomato Dunkin sauce

Steak was a little chewy but portions were really good. Service was quick and efficient. Staff very nice and friendly.

Staff told us one thing, owner essentially called us liars after we waited for 50 minutes For a table. Simple communication problem turned into an owner being confrontational and us heading to SALTYS. SALTYS was awesome

Also a note for the manager. Talking to your employees about things they have done wrong out front where customers and other staff can hear isn't professional.

It is not a good place for seafood. It is like any fish and chips you can find in Toronto. Price is low but it is not worth!

Legit one of the best seafood restaurants in Halifax. Right near the ferry terminal downtown. Looks and feels like a greasy spoon diner, but does a ton of fish and shellfish every day. As a result, always fresh. Seafood platter for $24 is a great deal I think. Greek calamari plate is great too. A sleeper classic!

Waited 15mins and didn’t even get the water. The table behind came later than I do but get water before me. Your waitress is literally ignoring my existence. I walked out because I am starving and I don’t know hot late I would get my food.

My daughters and I ate here last night, as we had a few other times in past years. We arrived shortly after 7: 30, and it was quite busy. We were seated quickly, but it took forever for someone to take our order.but understandable considering how busy it was. We placed our order and an hour later, the server came out to tell us that the last piece of battered fish was burned, so my daughter had to choose something else. She chose chicken fingers, and when the food finally arrived, the chicken fingers were way over cooked, and very close to burnt. My other daughter ordered cheesy garlic bread, and it was barely toasted.was more like just bread with gobs of cheese melted on it. A bit difficult to eat. I ordered the BLT, and while it was so, so. I had asked if they had curry mayo to go with the sweet potato fries, and was advised yes.but when it arrived it was more of a chipotle mayo. I get it that it was busy, and the servers were busy.it was probably the first real busy night in a long time. Buskers were on the waterfront, and so was the fair. Lots of people out. But this is not a new restaurant. Ive eaten here before and the food was always enjoyable.but this experience was not great. Will definitely think twice before eating there again.
