Chinatown Restaurant

The dead plant in the window should have been a clue that care is lacking here. The food is less than mediocre. The service unhelpful. Very few vegetarian options. Maybe the dim sum is better

My partner and I went to Chinatown and the sign said open. However, no one was at the front of the restaurant. There where many asians leaving with leftovers and were still many asians in the restaurant. No one came to greet us, but someone was busy cashing people out in the upper level. We won’t go back!

My second time out to Dim Sum, my first time at this restaurant.

The food was delicious, however, the service was lacking a bit. It was hard to get the attention of any staff. One of our dishes was mistakenly forgotten about.

There was no greeting when the person was seated, and he had an expression like "Why are you here to eat? It's really annoying. " After we sat down, we placed a list of morning tea selections, but no one came. After ordering, no one came to take the order. The waiter we called ourselves took the order and took the order. After the food was served, no one came to table check until the meal was finished. No one added water or removed the plates. I was really impressed. It was the first time I saw this kind of service attitude.

Used to go often, but haven't been much to the new location since they moved. Decent food good service.

Food is really great. The dimsum is definitely a must try, sad that it's only available on weekends between 11am to 3pm.

My wife and I go here every weekend for Dim Sum The owner and staff are awesome you can taste the skill tradition and love on every bite

Dinner was fantastic. Food was hot and tasty and the staff friendly. Made excellent recommendations. Prices are reasonable also. So happy I decided to go while visiting Halifax. Will be back and so will my friend.

Waited a half an hour past the time they said it would be ready, I paid for gravy, didn’t get any. All other food in the bag (3 combos) luke warm except one item. Going down hill fast. Need more staff.

Went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and had Dim Sum. It was delicious! There was no wait to get in, and the food came within a reasonable amount of time. It is definitely worth the drive over the bridge!

They offer halal menu if you book in advance and have a group of a minimum 25 people. The food was good and fresh. I wish they would offer permanent halal options.

This was the worst customer service my wife has even encountered! We have supported this restaurant for years both dine in and order! She ordered chowmein rice and egg rolls, the rice and egg rolls were good the chow mein was like rubber.she never complains but when she called Chinatown the guy that answered said she had to pay delivery charges to replace the awful chow mein or drive it to Chinatown! Are you serious! You made horrible food and want us to pay for it! Clearly we will never go to or order from there again! She did ask for the manager and according to the guy that answered they don’t have one!

I ordered the Double Seafood Happiness which is described on the menu as a combination of Jumbo Shrimp and Scallops over vegetables. I could not find the scallops in my dish so I enquired the wait staff who enformed me that the Scallop was diced. In total, there was less than one Scallop in my dish. Very disappointed

Best Dim Sum Restuarant in Halifax so far. Good portion and authentic Chinese Hong Kong taste. Recommend to try all steamed menus and fried noodle with sticky soup.

My parents love this place, we come here for dim sum, food is usually pretty fast, service could be better (wait staff always rushing around hard to flag them down) shrimp dumplings are a family favorite, same with egg tart, rice rolls, salty egg yolk sesame balls. Occasionally receive some over steamed shrimp dumplings that fall apart. But overall would go again

Besides the fact were owed a credit from the last time we ordered.again you did it wrong you only sent us half our order again tonight and you dident even deliver the food in a thermal bag it was cold.we all used the microwave to heat it up I'm really upset and mad this time I've spent 150 bucks now on disappointment. I told the rest of my family that orders from you and it might not be much but I promise it's 500 less bucks a month we'll all be spending there another Chinese kitchen can have our money I litterly herd you lie to my father on the phone that's why I'm mad I been a pizza chef and spent 24 years cooking and dealing with customers and I've never lied to one of them shame on u all

Don't communicate properly. Paid for a beer and check near food. Had the packaging be so bad that the beer broke the minute I walked out and then had a man harrass me via phone telling me I couldn't take the beer. I'd go somewhere else next time

Enjoy the dim sum and yum cha during weekends!
The dim sum and tea may not be so impressive but the ambience is good and cozy.
It may be a good choice if you would like to taste chinese food with friends and family.

I only been to this location twice. One for regular dinner meal with my friends, and one for Dim Sum. Disappointed on the quality of the food, and the taste did not hit like home. Too oily. More oily than my face. The wait time for Dim Sum took a loooong time. By the time food arrived, glass of water made me full.

First time here, I walked in was greeted right away, hostess walked us up to a table where the water view was. We asked for specialty vegetarian dishes not on the menu, they accommodated without hesitation and the chef came out as well to ask again if we wanted a sauce on the tofu- Moving from Vancouver, BC, to Halifax, my experience was pretty rough. Anyways let’s talk about Chinatown, the food had a nice flavor - the Canton dishes we chose where pretty good. I will be back. There is parking off the side and underground in the next building.

We decided to give this place a try since we’ve never been, and sorry to say we won’t be back. Dim sum service was extremely slow. I realize that everyone arrived at the same time for dim sum, but in the GTA it’s the same thing and the restaurants are just more prepared. We waited over 45 min for our first dishes to arrive and that was after I asked them to rush a few dishes because our kids were getting really hungry.

When we went to get our bill, we had to get two items removed because they never arrived.

The view was great.
The food was mediocre.
The service could improve greatly.

When Chinatown restaurant moved to another location, eating DimSum was fine, last Sunday, me and my husband went to eat DimSum, every dish of DimSum was tasted gross, I won't go back to eat DimSum at this place, the servers were slow, they didn't know what they were doing. I recommend you find another better DimSum place in Dartmouth, more delicious and tasty food plus a better service. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Always my go to Restaurant for Chinese, been getting take out from them for probably 40 years, always good portions, prices are average, not overly pricey and of course always yummy.

Love this place. Go here everytime I'm home. Jane the owner comes out and chats with you. Went for dim sum the other day with my niece. Was scrumptious. Large variety of food. The authentic dishes are good. Many North American chinese buffet always has customers.

Had a delicious dinner at the Chinatown Restaurant tonight. The takeout meal for 2 was a fantastic feed for us. Would return.

Very poor. Tasteless and dry. The pancakes were dry and torn and inedible. Very very disappointing.

We decided to stop for a meal around 8pm, the restaurant was nearly empty and we were shown to a table which was far from clean, the table behind us had a tray of dirty dishes left on it, when the server took our order I asked for the table to be cleaned and the dirty dishes to be removed, this was done however it appeared as though we were an inconvenience.
At this stage we should have cut our losses and left, instead we waited 20 minutes for food which was as far from authentic Chinese food as you could get. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Always enjoy the food here. Service is prompt and good value. Also enjoy seeing the Harbor and containers going by on the railway

The food is good but who knows when the restaurant is open. Nothing on their website and they don't answer their phone. Poorly run.

Reasonably priced and food quality good. Ginger chicken not what we were used to but still tasty. But don't order it if you don't like mushrooms.

Good take out. Love the salt & pepper squid, chicken chow main, ginger beef & Cantonese sweet & sour pork.

Tasty food, reasonable price, huge quantity, nice ambience and super clean.

Dont talk about the food yet but that one female waitress acted and served really bad, less professionally.

Food and portions were excellent. The beer was also reasonably priced. Good physical distancing, good service. The pan fried dumplings were good as were the spring rolls. Lemon Chicken was delicious. My biggest complaint here is the lack of atmosphere. The place is deceptively huge and once in, it's like banquet hall. Huge and impersonal. Thankfully the food is very good.

I love dim sum.my wife.not so much but we both love Chinatown. I've been visiting Chinatown for decades and chose to eat elsewhere as the original place on the Bedford waterfront seemed run down and ignored. That is NOT the case with the bright and spacious new location at the base of Flamingo Drive at the Bedford Highway. These authentic dishes are delicious and served by staff willing to please their guests. Eat-in or take out.

Best Chinese food i've had in years. Portions were big, food was hot, delivery wasn't long. Seriously, so good!

Order here the other day. Got 2 combination plates and was told about 45 min for delivery. Ended up being 30 min and the food was fresh and great. Will be ordering again

The new location really has no atmosphere. The food is still good and the staff was amazing, but it is like eating in a big community Hall. After 50 years, I do not think I will be going back. An end of an era.

I feel Chinatown is not as good as it used to be although the decoration for this new place is really fancy.

I wanted take out Dim Sum. A staple of Dim Sum is Shiu My - pork rolls. They were out!
But shrimp dumplings were very good. As were the mini spring rolls. Very big room. Needs some dividers or booths. Beautiful basin view.

They have limited parking. If you come by bus, the stop is very close to the door.
The food was okay but not the wow factor that I am used to from here. I hope it was just an off day for the chef because it used to beone of THE BEST Chinese food restaurants in the city in my opinion. And we eat there quite often.
Was not impressed that the table next to us, who came in after us, was served before us. That is always a let down when you see they have the same waitress.
We will go back again for another try, but this experience was not a good one.

Absolutely horrible. Had a large family dinner (80 people) some people had the buffet option. We chose the menu. As a family of 8 (6 children 2 adults). One of our children got sick so I took my children out while my husband paid. A woman stopped me at the door and told me to pay, I said my husband did upstairs. She told me no, pay tip. At this point my daughter is turning green and I said speak to my husband and left. She stopped him at the door and told him he had to pay, again he said he did. She said my manager said you have to pay 10% tip.
Enjoy your 6$ tip, my large family will never be back!

Second time here and again the food was amazing. Ask for authentic Chinese food and you will be floored by the taste and home made spices. No MSG as well so the flavor is 100% legit Do yourself a favor and come for dinner and the view!

Beautiful view and very luxurious place. Waited for my food for over an hour for which is unacceptable when Waitress did not even come to check up after we asked. Disappointed their service did not match with the beautiful ambiance.

Very disappointed with the new location. Reminded me more of a cafeteria than a restaurant. Loud and impersonal.

Nice location and dining area but VERY slow service. Waited really long for the food and the customer service was bad.

I order from here regularly and always find the food fresh and hot. The only issue I have is I always order and extra egg roll to go with the combination, but i always seem to get a spring roll instead. They spring rolls are good, but not what I'm asking for.

I never got to see the old place so this is just my take on the new location. Inside the lobby is beautiful. I find the main dinning are too cold in temperature. The AC was cranked and I was freezing. With the high ceiling the sounds are much too loud from other people talking. You had to speak loudly just to talk to the server.
The view is amazing tho.

I ate out front facing the street as it was warmer and much quieter. The food was good but the experience turned me off coming back.

Ate there twice. Food was pretty good flavor wise and I enjoyed the dim sum. But both times it really upset my tummy the following day. I shouldn't have given them the second chance. The second time was much worse than the first.
