Chop Steakhouse & Bar

Wasn't really wowed. Food a little cool when it reached the table.potatoes were super hot, but steak, shrimp, and sauce were cold. Weird.

Honestly I'm not usually much of a "steak house" person. I can cook a better steak at home for a fraction of the price. But that's not why you go to Chop. It's got a great vibe. Staff are attentive (even if a little pushy with the drinks, etc). Lots of interesting options on the menu. But very spendy. Perhaps why there are so many birthday parties going on there. Could be a good spot for an appetizer and a cocktail to start the evening.

We had great drinks at the bar and our bartender Sarah Bjornson was terrific! Loved the fresh squeezed greyhound! Will be back

This is a great place to eat a great meal, party downtown and then spend the nite so u don't drink and drive home.

We first went to the Chop Steakhouse & Bar, and it was for an anniversary dinner.
The initial experience was not great, and we reached out to the manager, and gave him some feedback about our experience. He promptly replied to our email, and invited us back.
Some time went by, and we decided to go back, and made a reservation.
Our second experience at the restaurant was out of this world.
The manager, Michael, took time out of busy schedule to come say hello and had a very pleasant conversation with us.
The food was exceptional and the chef added a personal touch at the end of the evening by bringing out the desert himself. Fortunate for us, because we could personally thank him for the wonderful meal that he and his staff prepared for us.
Last, but certainly not least, our server Mackenzie. She was phenomenal, super relatable, funny, had great food and drink suggestions and the service was top notch.
We would definitely be back, not just for the food, but for the whole experience, and Mackenzie certainly played a major part in our decision.
We hope that anyone that reads this has the same great experience as us, and congratulations to Michael and his team, keep up the great work, and we can't wait to join you again.

My partner and I visited the Halifax Chop location this evening. What an amazing experience! We were very impressed with the decor, service, and food.

Ian was our server, and he was absolutely fantastic. He explained in great detail why Chop’s steaks stand apart from the rest and he provided great suggestions. Ian was very attentive and pleasant, and he was not lying; the smoked rib eyes we had were delicious. I would also recommend the onion rings and blue cheese wedge salad. Oh la la! What a treat! And the drinks, my goodness. I had a Bittersweet Symphony and a Caesar, and my partner enjoyed a cherry mojito. We really liked those! Kudos to the bartenders.

We are Halifax born and raised, and dining out at Chop made us feel like we were having a special experience that we might not get at many other restaurants around town. Thank you Chop staff (especially Ian for his great dad jokes), keep up the great work!

Felt the food was mediocre for the amount we are paying. Husband ordered a steak and the waitress asked if he would like some onions and mushrooms on the side in addition to the rice and vegetables it comes with already. Once she said that I pointed out to my husband that the "steak toppers" were listed as $3.50 each, I didn't think it was worth it to pay thay much for Onions and mushrooms. But the waitress said oh no, we'll just give him a little on the side, making it seem like it was free. We get the food and a whole side plate of mushrooms come and a separate plate of Onions. My husband ate the mushrooms and had a tiny bit of the Onions, because who is really going to eat a whole plate of Onions. Get the bill and each side was $7! Which was a total ripoff. We were so frustrated and couldn't believe she charged us that much for something we didn't even want. Definitely will not be coming back here.

My husband and I ate here for dine around in Feb. The service is honestly the best in the city! The food was also amazing. I can't say enough about this place! Looking forward to taking my husband there for his birthday in May

Went for a work dinner. Food was fine but not what I expected for the price. Very plain mashed potatoes and green beans. Didn’t seem like they even had any salt and pepper on them. Thought they’d be at least a bit flavourful! Steak was good. Service was fine and atmosphere is nice. Was glad that I wasn’t paying or I would have been much more disappointed.

Alexis was a great server, always around when we needed her, always smiling, engaged and efficient! And we live this hotel!

Such lovely staff, great atmosphere and delicious food (especially the mashed potatoes)! Sarah really made our evening special, and I would definitely come back here for future celebrations.

This restaurant is chic! The decor reminded us of many restaurants in Vancouver. Very fancy. Loved the Manitoba bread appetizer with brown butter and the donations to the local food bank - what a great cause!
Personally I don’t recommend the seafood chowder as their was a minuscule amount of lobster and the lemon was quite overpowering. My husband is plant based and the vegetarian menu was surprisingly varied and he raved about his avocado tofu bowl. I had the New York steak and it was cooked to perfection with generous side portions! Overall I do recommend and we’ll be back.

Great time. Mackenzie is the best server I have ever had! The service was the most phenomenal experience. Attentive, funny, awesome recs. I loved the experience. Cocktails and desserts were so yummy!

Run.don't walk to Chop Happy Hour! Amazing wine and tender steak bites with delicious tuna tataki they are so good you will want to keep ordering all night long. Staff are ridiculously friendly (shout out Aylie and co). We will be back!

Makenzie was an amazing server.we've eaten all around the world, from cork Ireland, to Sydney Australia and never had a server as fabulous as her. Amazing. Simply amazing. From Danny and Louise.

We went there for our friend's birthday dinner on a tuesday nignt, the resturant wasnt busy but the food came so late.
When the food arrive it was cold and not delicious.
They need to twinge their recipes, for a steak kitchen, the quality of the food, i definitely will not recommend.
However, their desserts were really good!

Absolutely horrendous experience at this restaurant April 21st. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. You will find better steaks at chain restaurants such as the keg and for a lot better price.
Service was nonexistent, steak was bland and wasn’t cooked the way it was asked to be. Dessert trio tasted like old fridge. Seems that if you’re not above 50 and a regular weekly customer they don’t care about you. Hence why they pick and choose who’s review they reply back to.

What a horrible way to celebrate our anniversary.
We canceled our reservations at gio because we heard great things about chop. We expected fine dining for the prices on the menu.
Upon arrival the hostess was friendly however we requested a relatively quiet table (I understand you can’t control the noise of other patrons) but we were sat in the back by the kitchen, right by a table of kids and some kind of bachelorette party. The noise was absolutely insane as well as in appropriate for this kind of restaurant… screaming at the top of their lungs “SHOTS” swearing, talking about “experiences”. It was absolutely awful.
That being said we would of looked past that had the service and food been on point however they also seriously lacked. Our server was friendly however no one checked on us about our meals until we were almost done. My steak was supposed to be med rare and it was almost blue rare.i sat for maybe 10 mins and started eating again because I was so hungry. When they finally checked up on us (wasn’t even our server it was a man) my husband said his was fine and I went to let him know about my steak and he was already gone. We waited so long between finishing our meal to ordering dessert, once dessert came again really disappointed, everything had a weird old fridge taste to it and my cappuccino was horrendous (our server did notice at the end I didn’t drink it and took it off the bill without us asking) No one checked up on us tho until we had sat there not eating for about 10-15 mins. This was our anniversary dinner so after we paid our server said she had a signed card and a free coupon for an appetizer for us and for us to just stay for a minute while she went to get it. We waited 20 minutes at our table half asleep after paying and finally just got up and left. While our server was friendly our expectations of the service, atmosphere and food were no where near met. We will never be back. Waste of 200$

The steak bites are absolutely delicious. Same with the steaks, salad, and drinks. Would definitely go again!

Just got back from there. Told our waiter it was our 30th anniversary.
We got our food pretty much right away and it was delicious!
But our server brought our food at 9pm and we didn’t see him again until 940!

We recently had dinner here… the food was spectacular and our server Joel was amazing… we completely enjoyed the whole night…. It’s a beautifully designed restaurant. Will definitely return.

I am not a big steak gal but while i’m halifax for a week we went to get a nice steak and lobster dinner and it was delicious! Ordered my steak well done and it was cooked perfectly. The seasonal veggies included zucchini, which i had never had before, and i loved it! Instantly one of my favourite vegetables.staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was amazing. Highlight of our trip!

Ate twice and was very pleased. Service is excellent. Steak was outstanding, sides New York quality, deserts the same. Good wine list. Disappointed with the crab cakes which we thought were overcooked. If you are staying at the hotel (Sutton Place) you won’t be disappointed to stay in particularly in the winter months. Well recommended.
