Clucking Hen Cafe & Bakery ( Seasonal may- October)

Had the best cold brew of my life here last summer! Sandwiches and baked goods were also delicious and everything ridiculously affordable. We're vegetarian and had lots of options available.

I ordered a breakfast sandwich. I asked for no cheese since I saw on the menu it would come with cheese. The waiter told me that it never came with cheese. After asking for no cheese he brings the sandwich out with cheese and he says only the best. Was extremely disappointed at this point with the service.

Also the atmosphere was not that welcoming. Will definitely not be recommending.

Great food n atmosphere, service is excellent but there out of everything during a very busy time of year, with that it's very limited!

First time doing the cabot trial, 2nd day into our trip we came across this little restaurant and glad we did.we went in for lunch and was greeted at the door by a guy (not going to use his name) and he sat us down at the table. Not even 2 min inside just the communication and interaction and getting to know one another was like he was a friend for years, the grilled cheese and ham with the carrots soup hands down the best home cooked meal i had in months! (I travel around Atlantic Canada for work) this little restaurant hands down is a must stop and come get your lunch or dinner here! Congrats to your 2 staff members that just moved here from Alberta and getting to know there stories, i will definitely be back!

Good prices, wonderful place, nice staff, great food. Only complaint is that the bread from the day old shelf was moldy.so obviously not a day old. The blondie was especially delicious.

Outstanding! Get the lobster club over the sandwich in my opinion. But you really can’t go wrong.

Ordered a grilled cheese and butter tarts only one table seated and almost done their food, waited 30mins for a subpar grilled cheese. Also was told to stand outside while waiting, asked to stand in the hot sun on the porch while waiting for my food. How does it take 30+ min to make a grilled cheese. Also asked for pecan tarts and was surprised by raisins which was not what I ordered we were already mostly home when the discovery was made.

A Cabot Trail gem! Amazing food, excellent service and incredible atmosphere. Unbeatable baked goods. The snow crab sandwich is a special delight! Don't miss this wonderful restaurant and spectacular views! *****

We stopped at the Clucking hen while on a bus tour. There was 18 of us on the tour. This cafe was amazing. The food and service was truly outstanding!

Got some great pastries here while driving the Cabot Trail. Loved them and the bakery is very nice with tables outside to enjoy your food. Wanted to stop on our way back too but had to get back to our Cruise Ship. If we get to come again I will definitely stop in for more great pastries! Highly recommend!

Delicious and fresh chowder. Comfortable patio with a beautiful view. Plus they have some desserts to go! Prices were reasonable.

Very basic. Had eggs and ham. There was nothing else. No veggies, fruits or even potatoes. I didn't take the bread cause I try to avoid gluten when possible. Wouldn't go back. Seem to have good pastries if you like that. But service was friendly and fast.

It's an amazing place. And the food is mindblowing. Most of menu made with fresh local harvest. A must go.

Great menu, we had the snow crab sandwich and the Turkey dinner, both were really good! Nice staff and yummy treats, we’d recommend the apple turnovers!

Such a treasure! Stopped by to have their chowder, unfortunately we came during brunch/breakfast and they don't do chowder until lunch/dinner menu. So had breakfast instead, which was a typical breakfasts and it was great! Their pastry stuff was really good we ended up ordering more to go on our way out! The service was extremely friendly which is just a cherry on top

Food was amazing - homemade and fresh. Staff were also very friendly and try and customize the meal as much as possible.

The Club on Oat bread was simply amazing. It was a take out that we ate on the road with a poutine. The first bite into the club was a wow moment. It was prepared so well, easy to eat, moist with a smashed tender chicken breast that doesn't disintegrate and fall out of the club like some other preparations. I wish I had bought another. The poutine was done near perfection with thick crispy fries, tasty gravy and curds. As good as the poutine was, the club really shined for me.

A last minute decision stop and zero regrets! Party of 9, so we had 9 different cake/ pastries/ cookies. Everyone in our group loved their choice. The coffee was decent too. Everything was fresh and delicious with a beautiful view.

Great little lunch counter and bakery. Everything was made in house and fresh. They a nice covered deck out back with ocean views.

Ordered 2 Hamburgers with fries a cesear salad, a Egg Sald Sandwich asked to have Lettuce, Tomatoe, Onions, Ketchup and Mustard. Got nothing on the hamburgers and a few packs of Ketchup. Sadly i was only impressed with the nice the workers were and yous have a beautiful spot. Spent $52 something for all items together not per person as it ask below

Awesome people, wonderful pastries and a fantastic cup of coffee. A must stop while travelling around the Cabot Trail. Make it an early stop if going counter clockwise or a wonderful end if going clockwise.

Visited after the lunch rush so not all items were available. Ginger carrot soup was excellent. Good and quick service. Food was very good.

Started this week with the traditional turkey dinner for Thanksgiving. Kept going back for delicious baked goods and sandwiches to go. Fell in love with the amazing lobster sandwiches on porridge bread! They are "to die for"!
The butter tarts and lemon meringue pie are as well! I am sure everything is so tasty! The staff are all so friendly, courtious and helpful!
You will love your Clucking Hen experience!

We were pleasantly surprised with the homemade bread, the view and nice atmosphere to stop and have lunch.

Best food and Best breakfast in General. Great stop if you’re doing the Cabot Trail. Amazing hospitality and very friendly staff members. Also loved all the funny signs around the cafe. A bit busy and crowded when we visited but still offered a great atmosphere. Highly recommended local food.

Great place. Friendly staff. The ginger and Carmel cake was the best. If you get that then have them warm it up. Would go again in a heartbeat.

Great place to stop. We had coffees which were good, and some snacks: a spinach and feta pastry, cookies and butter tart which were excellent. Bathroom was clean. Nice views from their picnic tables.

Food is excellent, staff is very friendly, waiting time is very short and overall service is great. However, prices are less friendly compared to the quantity of food you get (and I am not even talking about their lobster), ie, their sides. But since everything is homemade, I would its worth the price. Would be great though if for their seasonal prices, they could give a price range. Great place to stop by if you want to eat and enjoy the nice view.

What a great place to stop. Service and food quality was top notch. Place is very clean and the bakery selection is wonderful. A must stop on the Cabot trial.

What a delicious stop for a late lunch on our Cabot trail journey! We went here later on in the afternoon in mid-Sept and we were the only guests here for a while. Their bakery display were sold out of many options (as expected this late in the day), but after reading previous reviews on the cookies, we swooped up the last remaining 4 cookies and they were as good as I had hoped! Chewy, soft, full of flavour, and basically to die for. Definitely grab a few more than you think you’d eat! Their meringue pie was also very delicious.

Off their lunch menu, we ordered the snow crab sandwich on porridge bread (highly recommend trying the porridge bread!), seafood chowder and fish & chips (not pictured). Everything was extremely tasty and the service was great. Not to mention their patio view is pure tranquility. I cannot recommend this place enough!

My husband and I recently visited Cape Breton and we were disappointed with "The Clucking Hen" Places to eat were few and far between and so we decided to call ahead. We called from Tim Hortons in Beddeck @ 5ish to check on what time they were open until. The Clucking Hen indicated they were open until 7 pm. We arrived @ 6: 10 and there were people dining on their patio.we went in.only to be greeted by someone telling us they were closed. I was in awe! We had just called.she said they decided to close early because it was HOT! Really! It is summer. It is HOT! There was no where else within 30- 45 minutes to eat! NOT IMPRESSED! BAD on you! POOR POOR POOR Customer Service! NOT IMPRESSED!

Yummy grilled cheese and egg salad sandwich. Also bought a stack of macadamia cookies and pecan tart but both had a very eggy taste. Never had bakery item with overly egg taste in it. Lunch food and coffee was good though.

Stopped there today and grabbed a few Muffins, as my wife said - it's the best Muffin I had! And I agree with her, it was just an amazing Muffin, highly recommend

Love this place. The food is excellent. Recently I had the Double D Burger and I have to say it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. Good customer service and reasonable prices too.

This was a great place to stop and grab a snack. Soup and sandwich was delicious. Servers were friendly and quick.

We stopped here on a whim while visiting CB. One of the best lattes I have ever had. And the oat cakes were amazing! Worth the visit.

1/2 sandwich lunch with soup or salad was perfect size and very tastey. Gluten free bread was good, great staff!

All the baked stuff was delicious. We tried them all. The apple turnover, the brownie, the cookies.

It was amazing experience at the cafe. We had cheese pizza and coffee. It was yummy and delicious

Stopped here for breakfast, the place was pretty busy, service was slow. After our food arrived, we weren't asked if we wanted more coffee or how our food was. (It was only okay) Wasn't super impressed.

Wow what an interesting place. Glad we went there for lunch. Staff was very helpful and food was great. Location even better. Definitely recommend going there. They even back their own food and have a great selection of cheesecakes.

We are from Oklahoma and were driving the Cabot Trail among other attractions in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. We had the Clucking Hen recommended to us by the Visitor Center in Beddeck. It sounds a little absurd but the Clucking Hen was one of the highlights of our 8 day trip. The blueberry pie was absolutely phenomenal and I wish we could have tried more items as everything looked delicious. This is a great stop and not to be missed. I wish they had home delivery to OK!

Had an awesome experience. We we're travelling the Cabot Trail and this restaurant popped up after a Glass Artisan place. Had the Double D Burger-delicious, filling, loved the bacon jam. Chippers with curry mayo Price was reasonable and atmosphere and staff was welcoming and friendly. Loved it.

Donny and Melody were life savers. Not only did they rescue me from running out of gas but the chowder, cappuccino, and butter tart was the best lunch we have had since arriving in Nova Scotia! Thankyou again, we will be back.

The turkey sandwich and fresh made chips are so fresh. Forgot to get a photo.but we decided to take a loaf of bread with us! It is so soft and fresh.

Really good lobster sandwiches! And a beautiful view! And a cinnamon roll that we were going to save for breakfast but I already ate.

At first I was a little put-off when ordering at the register but was quickly rescued by a waiter who figured out that I wanted breakfast and not just pastries. Thankfully, the food was excellent and our waiter superb.

Good breakfast and great, friendly advice on where to hike and what sights to see along the Cabot Trail.

I was disappointed.our lobster sandwiches were very good but my husband's chowder was cold and tasted odd.we thought there was poultry seasoning in it.just odd.that we can deal with.but.we asked to sit outside.beautiful day.the young woman showed us to a bar style table for 2 with 2 stools. I told her I couldn't sit on stools as I have hip and back pain. I pointed to a table with 4 chairs and she said no sorry I cant sit you at a 4 seater.we then agreed to sit inside.within 5 minutes the 2 tables with four chairs on the deck were seated.each table only had 2 people at it.it was not a nice experience.we have frequented the Clucking Hen many times and have never had a bad experience.service needs to improve.maybe just a bad day!

Stopped in quick for a coffee and sweet treat. We had lattes which were fine (they are machine made). And then had a butter tart and croissant. Both good! Nice little place to stop and the staff were very friendly

We got a slice of the lemon meringue pie and a pecan tart. They were both delicious. The pecan tart is the best I’ve ever had.

We came here years ago it was so nice, staff was so friendly so we thought we would come back because the first experience was great. Wow! What a difference will never go back again.

Waited over 35 minutes for my take out order after being told the order will take 15 minutes. We asked for gluten free and dairy free toast and it came with butter on it.

So delicious! Sometimes it's hard on the road to figure out where to eat. We went based upon reviews and we weren't disappointed at all. Fish and chips were great. Super Fresh. Everything homemade. And a nice selection of treats to take with!

Top notch bakery! Great service and superb food! My son ended eating 2 bowls of the Turkey Noodle soup. Highly recommended.try the porridge bread - it is divine! And the cinnamon bun.need I go on?

Frozen blueberries in the oatmeal? $4 for 35¢ worth of oatmeal could have fresh blueberries. WiFi did not work and as recommended by rental property owner so.roaming charges. Overpriced. ~ response: Maybe your staff should have offered more than "well, my phone is working". If I said the toilet was overflowing, I will bet someone would have checked into it.as far as the food. Customer's shouldn't have to ask. Fresh food should be served without questions coming up or note it in your menu to avoid confusion. Just my opinion.
