Coastal Inn Dartmouth

I had the pleasure of staying at the Coastal Inn in Dartmouth, NS, twice in the last couple of weeks. The room was splendid, the reception welcoming, and the price very much below average. The breakfast was all I needed to start my day. We are both seniors, and if need to stay in the City again, will definitely stay here. Thanks for the recommendation Ruth, and the friendly welcome Wendy. It was noted and much appreciated. Will be back!

Bedding and towels are clean and in good condition. The complaint is about the tough smell of old carpet in the room and the strong smell of the cleaning products. Good breakfast with reasonable variety of choices, very convenient when you travel with kids. Nice and polite service. The location is convenient, but it is near an industrial zone.

You get what you pay for. Definitely worth it if you’re looking to save a couple of bucks. Definitely dated. The elevator is quite sketchy. Cleanliness seemed okay, but It definitely had some questionable smells. The front desk employees were hit and miss, politeness wise. The younger men didn’t seem to be interested in cracking even a slight smile, helping or even give a thank you. Mundane tone and didn’t seem like they like their jobs. The older gentleman was nice and the girl in the morning when we checked out was helpful.

Also kind of funny how their “tap” on the SMASHED debit machine “doesn’t work” when you check in but does when you check out? I guess it all depends on which employee you get and whether or not they give a hoot about helping you.

I don’t understand star ratings and why this hotel would be 3-star.it should be negative 3 star.if you can’t afford the pricier hotels then this might be okay for you, but if you are expecting a normal 3 star hotel, this is not it. Hotel is extremely outdated, rooms are old everything with holes in the walls and pretty scary.we booked here by accident thinking it was the halifax coastal inn location.could not stay here.i’d rather sleep in my car.moved to a “3 star” hilton in halifax.pricier but more to our liking.staff are extremely nice though.

I wasn’t expecting much based on the reviews but our stay was more pleasant than anticipated. Our room was massive which was great when travelling with a family of 5. We had a suite with a living room and separate bedroom. The beds were very comfortable as was the pull out couch.
It was very quiet. The breakfast was good and the staff was very friendly. The location was great- we used the ferry which was only 5 mins away to go to the Halifax waterfront.
A place to stay with breakfast and parking is a definite bonus these days.
As mentioned the place is very dated, and the elevator is questionable and hopefully they will some day rid themselves of their rugs. However it is clean, quiet and comfortable which is the most important.
We would definitely stay there again.

Very nice place expect a 3.5 star experience large room. Dated but the beds are fine and the staff has been great. Location is great if you have a car. Close to the ferry and bridges to halifax staff including the general manager are very nice.

We had an enjoyable stay. We had a pleasant surprise the manager upgraded our room for free. He recognized our name from previous stays. We had no issues the room was clean. There were lots of towels. And it was also nice to sit on a couch to watch TV instead of laying down in bed watching tv. Thanks so much for the upgrade!

We rented the sweet because we needed the pull out couch for our kids. When we took off the cushions we found a lighter and a loonie and dirt. We asked to be moved to a different room and the girl at the front desk moved us to the better sweet. This pull out couch had a Fitbit, a sock and cheetos in it. We decided we were going just tough it out and not complain until we found a little plastic bag in the bed, the kind you would find drugs in. We asked for our money back and left immediately. We were refunded without issue but this was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel.

Cheap, mom and pop operation. You get what you pay for, two towels in the room. None in the pool room. Keys didn’t work. The free breakfast is toast. Better off paying a little extra and actually getting a hotel stay. Even comfort inn has this place beat.

Personally, I think the hotel was fine. Sure it looks a little sketchy from the outside, and it looks a little worn out in the rooms, but for the price, I think it’s a worth it. Room was clean outside of a random empty beer can, and we got lots of towels. Card didn’t work all the time, but they fixed it for us.:)

Stayed at Coastal Inn many times in the last couple years these people are fantastic ready to please love the rooms going back in 2022 again

You pay what you get for. Rooms were clean enough, carpet had some spots that gave away it needs a good clean, but other than that no complaints. Heater/ AC works good, lots of towels. Dishes provided too.

The rooms are very dated but clean. It's what I expect at this price point. The staff was awesome! Super friendly and helpful.

Had a great experience here 12 years ago. Sadly it has really gone downhill in those 12 years. Everything was stained and worn (carpets, furniture, etc.). Bathroom roof leaked water on the toilet the entire time we were there. Reported it, never heard back from front desk. Being dripped on when using the bathroom was extremely unpleasant. At least the sheets and towels were in decent shape and clean.

I just booked this hotel through Hotwire and I had a few questions. Therefore, I called the hotel and Mr. Baby was amazing help! I told him I was pregnant. Therefore, he put us on the main floor so we wouldn’t have to use the elevator. What a real gem! Thank you my friend!

After visiting - the room needs a little TLC but all is good.

Felt like an abandoned hospital, family had Many issues, such as sink not working and we overheard a situation of a poor lady who's room hasn't been cleaned before her arrival, the towels and sheets were used, and they didn't give her any other room because it was fully booked. They were not looking to help her until she suggested that they give her new sheets and she changes them herself.
Doors are paper thin aswell and the bathtub was absolutely disgusting.

Pulling into the parking lot at night my husband was skeptical (I booked online) and we had gotten a bit lost.

When we went in and to our room he was impressed. We had a living room with a couch, two wing chairs and a small table to eat at, a medium sized kitchenette furnished with dishes, cutlery, wash cloth and dish towel and also equipped with a microwave and coffee maker, and a bedroom with 2 double beds.

Our included continental breakfast had more than we expected. There was fresh fruit, juice, yogurt, oatmeal, assorted cereals and more. The staff were constantly topping up the tables.

Staff were polite, friendly and helpful.

Would stay here again. Great value for money.

The staff were nice. Room was clean. Bed was good. When returning from getting food, unfortunately I was accosted by cops in the lobby, escorted to my room, and told under no circumstances to go on the 2nd floor. Not really a good impression, but hardly the fault of the hotel itself.

I liked the place, nice big, clean room. Even had a kitchenette a d the rates were very reasonable.

The front desk agent, her name was Rachel I do believe, had glasses as well. Was extremely rude and condescending. We had trouble with our credit card on check-in and she seemed annoyed and even speaking down to us for having an issue with a card declining, management needs to speak with their employees and let them know how to actually treat paying guests

Very rude staff one member was very disrespectful and was sick shoukd have stayed home room sucked as well right by the elevator which is lias af

The hot water only worked on occasion. Room was dirty & had soiled dishes in the cupboard. Would not recommend.

I"ve stayed in the Coastal Inn Dartmouth with my family as a mandatory requirement for the Covid-19 situation. After a quick check-in, we went to our room and noticed that the room had been totally prepared for our long quarantine stay. The suite was equipped with extra items, so we didn't have to keep calling the front desk to ask for new towels or bed linen. During our stay the food deliverers were instructed to leave the food by the room's door, so we didn't have any human contact, so we felt protected and safe.
The place was quiet, well equipped with cable TVs, air conditioning, ceiling fans, a comfortable bathroom, comfortable beds, and even a comfortable living room with a sofa and a table to have our meals. I would like to thank Mr. Wayne and his wonderful team, as you have provided us good memories.

When we got there our room hadn’t been cleaned from the previous guests.switched our room when it was brought to their attention

A very nice, comfortable and quiet Hotel, i enjoyed my stay here and look forward for the next visit.

Unfriendly Staff, Power went out, People talking loud till 5am, Old bed, Small Bath, Expensive for what you get, Breakfast was ordinary with some things not looking fresh, cold, unclean counter, facilities not kept up, good location. I'd go elsewhere.

Best hotel I was in N. America! I am here second time. Always great.
Rooms was spacious and even had a full kitchen with full equipment!
Very comfy, quiet, CLEAN. I love it. Hotel has a gym in the basement. The breakfast room was the biggest i have ever been to in Canada/USA.
The staff is lovely. They even helped me with my broken car.
Getting a room like this would cost a lot more.
Standards almost the same like in Europe.
