I had day surgery for hernia repair on Friday, November 10. All the staff were very kind to me. Excellent job, thank you!

They were all great with me! No long waits for anything! All nurses in my unit were awesome (day surgery) they anwsered all my questions very patient with Me I felt cared for going in i was very nervous and self conscious they changed that thank you to the staff there and especially my great doctor Dr Vair!

I’d love to give them 0 stars. I understand that some people need to be prioritized however I am also in pain and have been waiting 6 hours i’ve seen mainly people get in that came hours after me.very disappointing but not surprised.

I waited 8 hours in the waiting room overnight after going in for suicidal ideation. No check ins. Didn’t allow me to go outside for fresh air. Expect left me in a jammed packed waiting room where I only got worse. When they called me back the doctor told me if I wanted to kill myself maybe I should. The only times they’ve treated me good enough was when I was bought in by ambulance for suicidal thoughts or attempts. If I walked in by myself they didn’t care. The mental health system in Nova Scotia is horrible. Do better.

This is the WORST place to go if you have a medical emergency or are sick, the ER nurses are nice, but that is about it, i went into the ER here 3 times, once because i could not breathe and was having severe chest pains and i was made to sit in the waiting room unable to breathe properly and crying for 8 hours.secondly, my father has stage 4 cancer and is EXTREMLEY immunocompromised, and they thought it would be a fantastic idea to put my poor father (with an infection already) in a room with an extremely contagious man who then got my dad even more sick.and then the third instance i went with a severe head injury from falling and i was brought there by my spouse who also had to speak for me because 9i could not remember anything nor could i speak well.and i sat there in the waiting room for 6 hours with a head injury and slurred speech, honestly i value my life and don't want to end up dead due to medical negligence so i will never be going there again.

I had day surgery at the Dartmouth general the staff was amazing wait time where good as you can get highly recommended

I was admitted to the DGH after a suicide attempt and it honestly was the best thing that could have happened.

The staff, Nurse's and Dr's really helped me. They were kind and empathetic. I cannot thank them enough for helping me.

I have been cleared by the QEII Dr's who were amazing and am now working on taking care of myself so I can be there to fulfill my dream of making even a small part of the world a better place.

It is unfortunate you can’t give zero stars. Went to emergency with a kidney stone and throwing up from the pain. Waited 8.5 hours to get out of the lobby waiting room. Another hour inside before seeing the only doctor working that day. The nurses were the most ignorant incompetent I have ever dealt with. This hospital emergency department is worse than in a 3rd world country. The nurses and whoever runs this department should be ashamed of themselves for how people are treated here.

The nurses are so rude.they got sick people in beds just laying everywhere.and they don’t even know who is even in their ICU units I came here to visit my dad after rushing him to the hospital while he’s about to have another heart attack, then later came to visit him later that night and the nurses don’t even know who I’m asking for.there is literally two people in the ICU and they don’t even know who I am asking for.and having to deal with their rotten attitude because “oh you showed up during our report time so you need to wait 30 minutes before seeing him” oh my bad I’m sorry to inconvenience you? I just did all the things to make sure he doesn’t die and now I have to watch you sit at your desk drinking coffee ok.sorry to disturb your break time. My goodness

4x went there complaining of severe chest pains shortness of breath pain up side of neck from chest. 4th time I was told “you can’t keep coming in here with these chest pains there’s nothing wrong with you”
5th time I was admitted to ICU & had Heart Surgery the next am at QEII where they inserted 2 stents into my heart!
I SUFFERED FOR 7 mOS IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN unable to even go outside due to lack of breath or even get up the stairs to my apt.
Shame on you! You almost killed me!

Some nursing staff are quite excellent here, yet some of them are some of the most complacent, and ignorant people who shouldn’t be allowed to touch a human. This is one of the worst hospitals in the province.

Recently had major abdominal surgery at DG requiring 5 night stay. Totally in awe of physician / nursing care received. A team of nurses that worked hard, volunteering to stay longer to ensure proper care was being provided. All in the face of shortages and lack of funding. Thks to the doctors and nurses who are facing this critical care crisis. Let's hope our governments and health authorities get this right not only for us patient's, but for you too. We need you and you deserve it! Thanks ever so much!

Wife just came back from emerg after having heavy breathing in the chest and has been sick for multiple days. Our Daughter went to the IWK yesterday and was diagnosed with a low grade pneumonia. With her symptoms being relatively the same she went. Explained her symptoms. Unlike how they xrayed my daughter to prove she had pneumonia. They didn't even bother even using the stethoscope to even hear her lungs and sent her home with prescriptions that deal with two different infections as they "Think" it's Bronchitis but probably do believe to be pneumonia over it as well so try both and if one doesn't work to take the other. This isn't the first time I have found doctors being lazy with patients. I am off my job right now due to a back injury. Once this emerg diagnosed as first muscle pain then rediagnosed it as a herniated disc. I went to physio where my therapist even called the ER ballsy calling it a herniated disc without an xray and in the end diagnosed it as a facet joint injury and with what the physio gave me is healing my back. The doctors here are inexperienced and aren't knowledgeable enough to be doctors here.

Only show up if you're dieing, otherwise expect to wait 4-6 hours to get out of the waiting room, staff don't care, doctor's don't care. 10/10 would much prefer to sit on a cactus then deal with the wait of this hospital.

Worst Hospital ever they don’t have doctors. You have to wait for a doctor 9 hours so they can check your results. Nurse are great and everyone else but Doctor are not worth to wait.

This place is completely unprofessional. The security and reception upon arrival were both on their phone and answered questions on my chart that I didn't volunteer.
To top it all off, I'm weak from Covid and I have to stand and wait my turn due to lack of chairs.
The medical staff seem great but the rest are just an embarrassment.

They threw an ice pack at my operated shoulder from 6 feet away less than hour after I woke up. They lied about sending my MRI referral it was done July 27, it got to the hospital stamped recieved Nov. 22. I have doctors tell me they were not "afraid of me" then deny me help. Very discriminatory treatment I have reached out to feedback no one would call me back. I was told that my pain was from triggers in the media when in fact I had significant injuries that needed diagnostics but was denied that from notes left by other doctors at emerge. It's very, very unfortunate amd uncalled for.

This hospital needs proper Healthcare services. They don't give importance to the patients.wait time is minimum of 5hrs which you waste your whole day in this hospital.

I had my very first surgery in Canada which is laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. Dr Waselewski and an anesthesiologist, i cannot remember his name but looks like asian eyed and the rest of the OR team were PERFECT! I cannot wait to have another surgery! Omg!

Went in with every symptom of COVID and Pneumonia, waited for 7 hours before eventually just going home, when I asked the nurse if I was going to be seen she said “likely not anytime soon” and that it wasn’t her problem they are understaffed. You will die before you get admitted to this hospital save yourself the trip

Slowest emergency room ever. Better to drive to Halifax. Almost 2 weeks later the lancing they did on one spot is more infected than when I first went in. Swollen, hot and sore to the touch. Clown Hospital.

A lie on people's face that we have free medical care. All they need is to add doctors. Why are people not askimg questions? Why no one is accountable here? Better to die than going to this hospital. Went afte midnight for kid emergency. Hardly any patience but still waited more than 5 hrs for a doctor and had to return. It would have been another five hours to see a doctors here. When I checked with reception, they said they have only 1 doctor in emergency after 12am. This is not the first time happened with me. Why don't they name it 'Torture' hospital? Where is media? Why no reporting on this corruption? Tax payers don't deserve this kind of humiliation.

I came to DGH yesterday for routine bloodwork and ultrasound. I received bad news that I needed to go to emergency and later found out I needed surgery that day.it was the most overwhelming situation and from start to finish the staff from my ultrasound to emergency to surgery to recovery were so kind and supportive, I felt like I was being cared for by family/friends. I’m completely blown away by My experience. I want to give special mentions to Amber in emergency as she kept my situation light hearted and also sensitive to my situation at the same time. As well as Charlie in the OR who acknowledged my anxiety and held my hand tight and rubbed my shoulder until I fell asleep. The girls in recovery were top tier as well. Thank you so much your everyone’s prompt response and taking care of me. Yesterday was one of the hardest days of my life but you all made it easier for me and I will forever be grateful. I’d give 10 starts if possible.

Our Healthcare System is a joke. Having people waiting in Emergency for over 8 hours only to not help the issues one walked in with! A potential allergy to new medication which was affecting someone’s breathing, but yes let’s wait over 8 hours in the emergency room because we have nothing to do but wait. It is atrocious how these wait times are to be expected. Walk ins fill up before noon, emergency rooms move at a snails pace. No wonder no one takes care of themselves when the healthcare is such a joke- we are better left fending for ourselves.

I am not rating the staff, this is for the conditions at this hospital. My elderly family member is there now and there is a rodent problem! Mice are seen regularly by visitors and patients and staff. My family member left a small plastic bag with dry cereal on her rolling table, and when she woke up the mice had eaten through the bag and some of the cereal. Disgusting for a place that should be sanitary. Another family member noticed how full of dust and debris the AC/heating unit was, and got someone to come and clean it. And just yesterday, my elderly family members was diagnosed with C.diff! Not a healthy hospital in any sense, go elsewhere.

Went to emergency, was having COVID positive but none of the staff treated me badly, they all were so nice the nurse was the sweetest, and doctor Maclean ; just spend 4 hours only today which is normally 9-10 hours; just to see the doctor but today was the best experience ever. I wish evertime we get tjhis type of experience.

The nurses in the emergency department are akin to your run of the mill highschool mean girls, trashing and gossiping about patients, even other nurses, all within earshot it's crazy. FYI, that curtain is not a wall, we all can hear you. Extremely UNPROFESSIONAL.

Have been here 8 1/2 hours already and now forced to leave my son in the triage hallway and sit in the reception as the Office Ladies had issues with my being there! Other than that EVERYONE that I have met here has been 100% kind, professional and helpful! From Michael the cleaner right through to the nighttime security at the doors, the triage nurses and also the Doctor, everyone is doing their best given the constraints of the current state of Medicine in Nova Scotia!

After speaking at length with one of the nurses I updated my rating to 5 as it was not anyone local who made me move but 2 execs who were in looking at patient flows!

I wish I never had to go to this hospital. I had to go there for surgery. And they didn't give me any medicine to heal. My wound got worse over time and they had to give me medicine after 1 month. Which is useless. Still, I'm suffering from the wound. 2 stars is for a couple of nurses. They were very humble and took care of me. And don't tell me about the waiting time. I went there 5 times and the wait time is average 7 hours. The last time I went a nurse skipped a couple of us and took in one woman because she was her mom's friend! When I was suffering from pain the first emergency screening nurse told me they can't do anything. And have patience! While I was bleeding!

Considering I went for day surgery and mine was the last appointment of the day I was very impressed: I only had a 30-min delay. Everyone was kind & efficient, and all my questions were answered.
My only gripe was the anesthetist required TEN attempts to find a vein - that hurt!

Where do I begin with this place.one of THE worst hospitals in terms of emergency service.if you live on the Dartmouth side of the harbour, save yourself the grief and disappointment and drive across the bridge to the QEII hospital. Much better service, honest, professional, proper diagnosis, and shorter wait times. This review spans disappointments from childhood to adulthood. Believe me, it's not worth going to the 'merge over there. Brutal.

Doctor lied to me saying he would send me for FREE tooth removal. Got there only to find out it would cost 350$. Dont tell people something if you dont know forsure!

This place is a wreck, you get misdiagnosed, the emergency department would rather choose someone with a head cold over someone actually dying. The nurses and doctors do not care about you there. Go an extra bit and drive to hfx infirmary, at least there they will help you unlike this mess of a hospital

The nurses and Dr Preston have been wonderful. They are so compassionate and genuinely care about their patients. My father in law is going to pass shortly and their care during this difficult time has been nothing short of spectacular. I would trust any family member in their care.
