16 hour wait, didn't make it past triage after being sent home. Weeks before this the same thing happened "We will call with test results" no call. I'd rather just die in the comfort of my home then suffer this place again.

I came in to see Dr. Sean Taylor (who also works with my neurologist Dr Ian Grant) for a double seizure related incident. Dr. Sean Taylor was the absolute kindest and sweetest doctor ever. He even gave me a cold cloth for my neck (at the time I was puking and felt really gross and groggy from the seizures) and left around 11: 50pm at night. It was a positive experience.

Worst hospital,
In this hospital, we just waste our time and in the end we have to leave the hospital without any results. Really, for a country like Canada this treatment system is unfortunate.

Coming to this emergency room is an absolute nightmare to be honest. The healthcare system in Canada and especially here in Nova Scotia is scary. Our taxes are being robbed from us and seem to be going nowhere besides lining the pockets of our corrupt politicians…

Do not go here. If you are having a mental health crisis, they will make you wait for hours in the hallway, then also make you talk about what is wrong in the hallway where there is people no privacy involved. The whole privacy thing isn’t even just about mental health it’s about the whole place. There’s no privacy involved at all, and also basically tell you there’s nothing wrong with you and to go home

Spent 7 hours in the first waiting room only to leave because I was still 8th in line to be seen by a doctor despite having been there almost three hours before everyone else.

I think the nurse that took me in didn’t take my concerns seriously when she triaged me; was very snippy and tried to dismiss my concerns as “mental health”

The waiting room is also unbearably cold and even though they offer blankets, they’re thin and don’t combat the chill at all especially in the night.

Overall a horrible experience

Still here. We've been here for over 12 hours and have yet to see a doctor. Seriously. The nurses are rude (makes sense) and the system is broken. So very broken.

Definetly, if you are in pain and need ER, don't come here.
Really frustrating waiting for so long and looks like they really don't give a s***" for you.

Should have karaoke machine in emergency so we can entertain each other since we are here for 12 hours.

They did not allow the patient and his family to meet and talk. Employees were so rude, and the emergency system was messed up.

Hi guys, i have heard Canadian health system is not good no matter the big cities like Toronto or Montreal. This was my first time getting admitted in the emergency department in Canada and my experience was awesome with this place. Nursing staff was so caring and friendly. I can see bad reviews about this place. It can be because of high pressure on the staff and handling multiple patients at the same time. I really appreciate their service. I really wish they provide same care and attention to the other patients and keep up the amazing work!

I was here yesterday evening for 5 hours, I was in a car accident and couldn’t move my neck. A lady in front of me said she had been waiting there for 8 hours with chest pain to the nurses walking by. I do not know her condition or situation but she was told multiple times that they can take her vitals but she has to wait a few more hours which is concerning considering her chest. Despite this fact the nurses, doctors, and X ray technicians I had were amazing! They were respectful and made me feel like I mattered. They listened and I could hear them talking to other people in the hallway and they were nothing but kind. I know that the wait times are not their fault and they made the experience better even when it was exhausting. For their help alone I rate it higher (they work harder than anyone I’ve seen) but if your symptoms are not serious enough you will be waiting extreme wait times.

Absolutely terrible place. They do not take anyone serious that comes through that door. They don't follow up on promises that they make avoid this place at all costs. Nova Scotia healthcare system is absolute wreck. Very disappointed

I understand that a lot of people have had bad experiences with this place, but I just want to explain that as bad as things are. They are not always so bad. In the past two weeks, my mother passed away, and I myself had to go to the hospital to get stitches for a head wound. Both when taking some time with my mother to say goodbye, and when arriving by ambulance to get patched up, every staff member that I dealt with was very polite, attentive, friendly, and caring. I wish everyone else had better experiences but all I can talk about is my own, and my experience was positive. Thank you.

Triage nurses told me I was faking a seizure despite being diagnosed with a seizure disorder a couple months ago. Horrible ignorant nurses and terrible service.

I experienced a nightmare here a few years ago (pre-pandemic), which I'm finally ready to share. First, I went to emergency with severe abdominal pain, waited six hours just for the doctor to do nothing but suggest antacids. I returned days later with a note coming from my own family doctor, which stated that I needed EMERGENCY SURGERY (as he quickly and accurately diagnosed me). But when I went again to the hospital, the doctor let me writhe in agony for hours while he would periodically enter the room, scratch his head, and conclude that nothing was wrong with me and that it was all in my head. This whole time, I could do nothing but politely and plainly explain my symptoms to him. I was helpless. (And where was the note from my family doc!?) He even smugly suggested that I go home (where I would have died that night). Things got even worse with that particular doctor, and later, some nurses. (Stories that are too long and private to describe here, lasting right to the very end of my time in this funhouse-of-horrors.) I left a couple of days later, miraculously post-surgery, which was like being tossed onto a conveyor chopping block and spat out the other end.

Front staff covid screeners at the emergency department are very transpohobic. Unacceptable conduct from anyone working for the nsha.
20 September 2022 6:16
Never enough doctors and the one I saw treated me like an addict when all I need was antibiotics and maybe some T3 for the pain from a sinusitis. If my family doctor didn't have a 4 day emergency wait I wouldn't even be here.

Had a nurse take a sheet with a blood stain I'd been sitting on for hours and remove it from my room. Before I could take a picture. Then was terribly rude. And laughed and said our healthcare system is terrible. His name was Rob. Terrible human

One of the worst health care emergency departments I've ever seen. If a patient is suffering from a health problem, they ask us to wait for 7-8h. We're not even allowed to go back home and come after 7-8h, instead they expect patient to just sit there on the chair forever. If they leave then their token is invalid. I don't understand how can a sick person suffering from fever or pain can just sit on the chair for hours. Firstly, why does it take hours to take a look at the patient. Really, do we've such a shortage of doctors? Especially when it is night time around 9PM then we don't have any options like walk in clinics or general medical hospitals to take a look at the patient. The system really needs to change and rules should be made in a way that will make the life of people suffering from illness better and give them hope.

You people need to improve, find better ways to help people and have some humanity instead of just following your own procedures and processes that are completely outdated for the current modern society.

After a frustrating wait of 10 hours in emergency, I saw Dr Neil Somer. He was the worth the wait. He was so professional, kind and listened to me. No gaslighting! He was thorough and diagnosed me and ordered follow up test. So appreciate all his efforts. Thank you Dr Somer

After waiting 8 hours for a probable concussion, they just gave me three tylenols and told me to go home without doing any assessments like MRI which is a common practice in other countries. The doctors here need to be trained better I need to provide preventative and better Healthcare.

Went here while I was in a mental health crisis, waited overnight for 8+ hours just for a doctor to give me a card for the national suicide hotline and send me home….
02 April 2022 16:23
If you want to waste your time, come here. I don’t know why it’s called emergency. What if someone was here for a life threatening complaint. I am so disappointed
17 March 2022 20:35
They do not even deserve a 1 star. I just got the worst client care and treatment from them. They actually deserve NO STAR!
05 March 2022 2:07
I have been waiting for more than 5 hours. Worst Emergency i have ever been. I think i would rather stay hme than come here ever again.
24 October 2021 3:05
The Nurses, Doctor and Triage Nurses were excellent, thank you. The wait time of 13 hours 50 minutes is why the low rating. The NS medical system is understaffed and overworked. Nurses and Doctors are treated poorly in NS and it almost always reflects on quality of care for patients. This time was surprisingly a good helpful visit.
