Genji Sushi

I love Genji Sushi for its simple and pure atmosphere. The food here is phenomenal. I can't really say to try this or try that because I've tried almost every item on their menu, and I have never ever been disappointed. I do love their seaweed salad and every single hand roll I've ever tasted. The service is great and all the staff are so friendly and so informative. They have all you can eat sushi, and its worth the prices listed on their menu. If you like sushi, space and its kid friendly too. I have older children and they have always been super satisfied with the food and awrvuce and I've never heard one complaint. The food is presented with beautiful garnish, and they are meticulous about how everything is served. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to try Japenese cuisine as they do it so well. There is a ton of parking, it's central Dartmiuth and easily accessible. There is wheelchair access and lots of room in the restaurant for strollers and wheelchairs alike. I will definitely be back.

The food was delicious, some of the best I've had at a buffet. There's a huge selection with lots of options for vegetarians. I recommend the sesame chicken, cheese wontons, beef wrapped spring onions, buttery mushrooms, fried coconut milk, and custard buns. It got quite busy even on a weekday night, so the staff was very hurried and we had to call multiple times for water, to check on food, etc. Sometimes they will forget an item, so just re-order it or remind the staff.

One of my favourite sushi buffets in town! Fresh food, friendly staff, and a big space which is nice since it is really busy sometimes. Will be back for sure!

Great selection and diversity on the AYCE menu, service leaves much to be desired. We had to tell the waiters no less than 10 times we didnt order certain diahes or we'd order 2 spring rolls and they'd mix up and bring 10 for two people and insist we did order them. Then the table beside us with like 6 people was always asking for their missing spring rolls and dishes and still.it didnt add up to the waiters lol. Its AYCE so whatever just reorder but we filled up on appetizer dishes as we didnt want to waste food we didnt orded, then didnt have room for the rolls which were above standard for an AYCE sushi experience.

Service was great, atmosphere is as good as you'd expect in an all you can eat sushi establishment. Sushi this go around seemed sub par at best, but the deal breaker was the fried food like the coconut shrimp, batter scallops, etc.oil was old and on top of that over cooked

Genji is pretty middle of the road sushi when compared to some of the other options in the HRM. When compared to other all you can eat places it far outshines the other options.

Service is typically fine, items are often forgotten but if you mention it to a server you will typically get it quickly.

The atmosphere consists of older J-pop songs at a low rumble in the background, prints of famous Japanese paintings on the walls, and some Japanese TV shows playing without sound.

One of our favorite restaurants to come to! Been coming here over 3yrs now. Food is always great, lots of variety. Staff are wonderful!

Great place for sushi I got the AYCE option. Food is insane good the crispy mango was my favorite. Definitely will go again.

Absolutely wonderful, the taste was spot on for the food that I ate, took me back to when I visited Japan, will be going back again very soon.

Great service, but worst wonton soup have had in my life; could be wonton leather soup. Everything else was good, though.

If I could negative rate I would. Firstly I came to this establishment a few weeks ago 1 hr and 5 minutes to closing. Me, my girlfriend and 2 of our friends. As we entered the who I assume manager shouted “are you here for buffet? ” We said “yes, we want to try it”. She then says “ you have to order off of menu we are not going to cook for you” we left. Didn’t take the first red flag. My girlfriend loves their spring rolls and we usually order 6 (1 order) every few days. So we decided to finally enjoy the buffet on Canada day, just my girlfriend and me. Unfortunately, The food was awful! We literally had to ask for the manager and demand a refund! They wouldn’t refund for both buffets just 1. We ordered 3 handmade rolls, 2 rice, chicken wings friend, crispy tai wings, and calamari… do not do it to yourself! Mind you the Korean beef rice was edible and we were starving but about 1/4 into the rice were like there is no way we’re here to just eat rice! The Japanese beef rice was mushy and overly saturated. We lost our appetites and will never be back. Also, every time we go there for spring rolls the establishment is empty… we did not take the red flags. Today on Canada day there were 2 Canadian couples enjoying sushi rolls and the remaining 6-7 tables were Asians. Maybe the cater more to their own then the Canadian market ‍️ Not giving another penny to them and wish whoever goes to “try them out” the best of luck!

Amazing experience as always! Food is delicious and there is a lot of variety; between fried food, sushi, wok items, soups, etc. Every time I’ve been there, the servers have always been friendly, helpful, and seem to genuinely care about the customer service experience. I highly recommend.

For fathers day my family took me to Genji Sushi. Overall the food was fresh, and the quality was good. The plates were also cleaned off the table quite quickly as well which was great. In addition, it was served faster than any other sushi restaurant I have been to which was quite impressive.

The only reason for my 4 star rating is I think their pricing is a little on the high side now. To be fair I know inflation has been driving prices up, and the price of fresh fish has no doubt increased as well, but I did also feel the portions of fish were a little smaller than the last time I went there. I really noticed it when they brought our calamari order to the table as it was the smallest 4 pieces of calamari that I have ever seen when it used to be a small basket full. Where this is an all you can eat restaurant, you could keep ordering the same dish if you wanted more but I didn't bother. I would not recommend the spider roll as it was quite dry but all the other rolls we tried were great

Overall it is worth while visiting and trying if you don't mind paying $30.99 for an adult.

I love this place! The food is great and the staff are very friendly! The only thing I have to say is the washrooms. The washrooms are a bit outdated and they could use some more stalls. There was also one time where the staff forgot about my order, but I reminded them so it was fine. Other than that, this restaurant is a good place to come eat!

We had lunch all you can eat. Experience was very bad, fish in some of the sushi rolls was spoiled and ingredients did not seem fresh. Deepfried dishes were very greecy. All family got sick after a few hours. Highly not recommended!

Service was horrible. Curry rice was cold. Never offered drinks. Was my first time. You tell me if I'm going back.

The food they gave us was apparently old. The ginger and the wasabi were dried out from being so old so I can only imagine how many tables they were on prior to ours. They served us with dirty dishes and when we asked to have them replaced they brought us more dirty dishes. Also when we didn’t eat their old/used food, they attempted to make us pay for each individual menu item but once we mentioned that they served us old food they stopped fighting us, most likely because they are well aware they serve old food.

I just tried placing an order through take out and the line has been busy for the last 30 minutes

Food is always delicious and perfect, it gets 1 star less for level of service at times. They don't come back to see if you need drink refills or to reorder much and I've been there over 30 times in the last 5 years. Other than that it's great!

The food here is amazing as well as the service! The all you can eat is a great deal and you get so much food! Was recommended to visit here by the manager at Comfort Inn here in Dartmouth. Probably some of the best sushi I've had in a long time! Will definitely return if ever back in the area.

Love this place! Staff are great and never have had to wait long for food. We love the all you can eat ordering. The small servings allow you try lots of items and everything is very fresh, made as you order.

This is not all you can eat. You cannot eat all foods here since those taste are so terrible. And you will be asked from their server to pay extra if you cannot eat them all. One of my black list. So shameful.

I’ve been going this restaurant ever since it originally opened 2012. It is had several owners since it opened. The last owners they had amazing customer service, the serving staff were amazing. The food was always amazing. If we had any issues with the food they would always take it back and give us a 10% discount on the meal due to that. We even got our meal completely free in the past did you give her due to being unsatisfied With the meal. That did not happen very often. Me and my friends used to go to this restaurant 3 to 4 times A month, Sometimes more.

Currently there are new owners. This is the worst I’ve ever seen it. We have gone there two times now since they had new owners 2022 and we were disappointed both times for different reasons. The first time the food was absolutely disgusting it was not the same Genji that we have always gone to. The rolls were loose and falling apart, certain roles of the sauce that they normally had on them, The meat skiers were tough and chewy. The second time my friend had chicken skewers and the meat was raw inside. When we brought to the attention of our waitress the Only thing she said was do you want a different one instead. We both looked at each other and told her no. The food was absolutely delicious this time, we did have a few items left on the table that we wanted to take home.the waitress told us five dollars to one person.we ate our dessert and asked for the bill.on the menu it indicated one price our bill indicated a different price. The extra charge the waitress indicated it was double that in price. They would not give me my union discount because I only had a copy of the card on my phone. Even though it indicates my name. I was showing I’d too. They did not take any discount off of our meals for the raw chicken. It always used to be free pop with your meal and now it’s $. 99. Which they didn’t inform us at the beginning.

I had quite the conversation with my waitress, who indicated to me that she was also one of the managers. She was not very helpful not very pleasant. And locked customer service abilities. Will definitely never be going to this restaurant again. Which is a shame because I used to go 3 to 4 times a month. Never again

The price is reasonable. The variety of food is large but I do not understand why every sushi roll contains avocado. Even if you love avocado, you would still get super stuffed with it.

I wouldn’t recommend this place. Less than mediocre food but we were still willing to eat it. One item came out that was so bad we couldn’t bring ourselves to eat it and we let our server know promptly. They initially wanted to make us pay for this item that we didn’t eat but later back tracked. The wait staff were polite nonetheless.

I had an incredible dining experience in this restaurant during my birthday night. You can easily and quickly get your food after ordering. Food is really tasted. The best all-u-can-eat Japanese restaurant in halifax. Staff here is really nice and friendly. They response rapidly to your requests everytime. Highly recommended and will come again.

Will not go back. Skimpy on food, TERRIBLE customer service.

We went there for supper and ordered sushi rolls (which most come with avocado). After being halfway through my California roll I noticed there was no avocado and instead it was stuffed with copious amounts of cucumber. We asked the server why there was no avocado in my sushi roll and her reply was that they ran out. However still continued to allow us to order without notifying us there would be no avocado in it, and stuffed with cucumber hoping we would not notice.

Not only that but they skimped out on the fish inside, the other rolls we ordered were stuffed with tempura bits instead. One example was the spicy salmon roll. It's supposed to have red peppers and onion in it as well, which were not inside and were replaced with tempura bits along with minimal amount of fish.

To add to all of this, the servers were very inattentive. I couldn't tell you who my server was, as we had to flag down a random server every time to get attention. We had to ask for more AYCE papers, we had to ask about why food was missing in our meal, we had to ask were our food was as they never returned with food we had ordered.

Simply find another Sushi spot, not worth the $60.

The rolls are delicious, and they have a huge selection. Everything they served was fresh and well presented. I'm a BIG fan of salmon sashimi so they did lose one star for having small pieces of sashimi. I could have just ordered more, but I like having big pieces. Overall the restaurant was pleasant and the food was very good.

I really like Gengi, really solid and consistent food quality and great service. I have been there probably over 100 times including pick up orders. They are a good value as well. I almost didn't want to write this review: I love this place, but I don't take 5 star reviews lightly, and a place would have to be crazy outstanding in my book to earn one. I see they have a 4.1 rating, and I would be pulling their average down if I gave a 4, but can't give a "5" either. Interpret my 4 as a 4.3

Definitely much better places in the area. Just about any other sushi place tbh. The rolls are very stingy and packed with rice. The service is very unattentive at times and I feel they don't change their fryer oil nearly regularly enough.

I've been going to Genji for years and I am always impressed by the quality and freshness of the sushi and the service. Tonight was the first time I ordered take out and everything was absolutely amazing and they even threw in a free roll! 100% recommended for a delicious sushi meal.

We were there on Saturday July 10,2021 and enjoyed every minute of the meal. It was fun and the service was A1. Thank you Genji Sushi. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.

This place has a large menu full of wonderful things, including a lot of options for thise who don't like sushi, but in reality it's not that big of a menu since you dont receive half or more of ehat your order unless it sushi, i think the last time i went with my partner they received all the sushi they ordered, and i recived about 5 things out of the at least 10 of the non-sushi I ordered, and that was one time alone, I almost never recieve everything i order

I absolutely love the food and service that I always revieve when eating here. It is always hot, made perfectly, and the staff here are always amazing when they serve us. I have been eating here for a couple years now, and have never had a bad experience.

Most of the dishes taste good. The squid rings are burnt on the outside and tender on the inside. The cowboy bones are very tasty. Unlike other shops, the sauce can not taste the taste of the meat itself. The fried coconut milk is highly recommended.

My partner and I had dinner at Genji Sushi yesterday and we both had a fantastic experience!

Not only was the food delicious, but the service we received from the staff was honestly one of the best experiences I've had in my life. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, empty dishes were taken away quickly, and they brought us another order sheet as soon as we needed it.

We will definitely be back! Keep up the great work!

Very nice staff and delicious all you can eat options. It has Takoyaki, softshell crab rolls (not just Kani) and Sashimi at the all you can eat menu. Options of tables separated by dividers and well managed space. The party trays are my favorite for take out and feed my family of theee people well, with left overs. Surely one of my favorites at HMR.

I've gone many times for the sushi and have received the same treatment by the young staff. I will never go again.

Sushi was good but the poor service made it unbearable. I'll be honest, I eat a lot, but I really dont like being judged by the servers and have them tell me they didnt even submit my order because it was too much.
A serious case like this happened to my friend Homer at an all you can eat seafood place and the judge ruled in his favor as he did not have all he could eat!
On a serious not this place does actually suck.

Possibly the best Sushi I have ever had, it isn't drowned in mayonnaise and seems to be very fresh.

Went there a second time and service was so bad. They dnt even care about you. Just throw the dishes on the table and walk away without asking if you want anything else. Guess they look at faces to see if you will tip them well or not. But they made a big mistake. Do not recommend at all.

I like this sushi spot because they have a lot of dishes for those that do not like seafood. Tornado potato was a family favourite. Other non raw fish dishes - grilled chicken "sushi" roll, sesame chicken, skewers, veggie "sushi" rolls, dumplings, rice, steamed vegetables, among many other options.

My partner loves this restaurant, as evidenced by his desire to return every time we are in the area. He ordered the California roll, dragon roll, and a bunch of others I can't recall.

Price was $25 per adult dinner plus drink. They have a lunch menu and children's pricing. Good value.

Avocado was unripe, sweet potato tempura was raw, ordering system is by paper sheets many other locations use electronic means. Some orders never came, the environment felt bare and cheap especially compared to the pushy service and high price for poor quality food, take your business elsewhere we made the mistake of choosing the closest location to our hotel.

Amazing place! We got the “dinner” all-you-can-eat and we definitely got our money’s worth. All items were great, I recommend to try everything. Will be going back if I get a chance. By the way, the ice cream is one of the best I’ve had, don’t skip this at the end of your meal unless you really ate too much.

My daughter is 8 but got charged as 9 years old so 8 dollars more than actual. After paid by credit card and pointed out the mistake, they gave excuses but not to refund. Very bad experience.

I have eaten at Genji Sushi for the last 5 years, roughly every 2 or 3 months and can honestly say I have never had a bad experience or meal. The service is always prompt and courteous, with a large selection of quality food items. The food is freshly prepared and correct temperature. I would absolutely recommend for anyone who enjoys sushi, pan Asian or Japanese cuisine in general.

You don't have to like sushi to enjoy eating at Genji's. The menu is so vast that you can fill up without eating the same thing twice. I love it, I've been here many times and would definitely suggest that anybody at least try it once.

Firstly let me say the food is good. The service however leaves a lot to be desired. Starters arrived way after main course dishes and food arrived in dribs and drabs in no logical order
The manager is possibly the rudest person I have ever met! I took my family to this restaurant after eating there myself, I wish I hadn’t. My son and wife ordered a dish that I like but they found to be too spicy, they didn’t eat it and the manager proceeded to lecture us at our table on how he now had to throw the food away! Im sorry but I do not expect to be lectured like a 5 year old because I didn’t clean my plate!

Gengi is a good middle of the road, all you can eat sushi place. I have been here about 6 times and will come again. The staff are nice and attentive and the food is good. Like any other all you can eat sushi sometimes when you go at peak hours orders will get crossed and you end up getting a thing or 2 ment for another table and vice versa. All and all tho good place.

It used to be good.now I need to find a need place to eat sushi.sashimi and sushi was okay but everything else was poor quality or not cooked properly.pink chicken, soggy tempura, stringy beef and more.they also brought us wrong items and forgotten some at multiple occasion and waitresses spoke english but not well but I am giving one extra star for giving military discount.

My favorite sushi restrant in the city. My partner and I go here any chance we get. This is where i learned to appreciate sushi and now I have a hard time liking any other sushi resturant. Highly recomended.

Slow service. A lot of options were unavailable. The staff were unwilling to clean the tables although the table was piled with finished plates and dishes
