Glenghorm Beach Resort

This place needs a serious makeover.
Cottages, area around and the private beach mentioned on website seems not maintained for very long time.
Cottage was too small, so if booking it for more than two people, it’s not a good option.
Refrigerator was not working at all, after complain it was fixed in couple hours.
Cottage windows net was broken, so bad option to open it at all, otherwise mosquitoes will not let you sleep whole night…. So in other words bad choice for nice and warm weather.

Wonderful experience. Having the on-site restaurant and bar was a big plus.

Room was nice, staff was so friendly and helpful. We had to leave early due to a hurricane and we were given credit for those days.

Quite a pathetic stay at the so called Double Cottage of the beach resort. A shabby and horrible place to stay for 350 bucks for a night. The private beach of the resort has a lot of stones not suggestive for kids. TV in one room was not working, the floors were very noisy, the kitchen was dirty, and the BBQ was smelly.
Will never stay in my life again here.

Overall we had a nice stay. Excellent location on the Cabot Trail, right on the beach in Ingonish.
Our room was dated and old, but it was clean and comfortable so we had a nice stay. The property is nice to walk around and enjoy the ocean. We saw seals from the bench!

We chose this spot as it was listed as "dog friendly" but I would say they are only "dog tolerant". They make you sign a contract to keep your dog off the furniture, and to not leave your dog alone in the room, making it very difficult to have any meals in the restaurant. They also wouldn't give us plates to take to the room, but they were able to give us a takeout container to eat off of. My husband and I had to take turns going to the breakfast buffet so one of us could stay with our dog. She is well behaved and they also wouldn't let the dog on the patio, even though no one else was even using it. A bit inconvenient if you have a busy day ahead and want a quick breakfast.

Friendly service. Super comfortable beds! Very clean. Breakfast was good, no warm foods other than toast, but lots of cereal and such. A great place to spend the night or a few, depending on your plans.

Front desk very friendly. No dinner service our night, breakfast was oatmeal, cereal and juice. Bagels and toast came as we left. Room was damp, beds were quite hard. We heard the upper level is better. Also could hear the upper level.sounded like furniture being moved. Room did not look like posted pics and we did have a laugh about it. It will do fine passing through. The shower takes a bit to warm up, patience, it gets hot.

This is probably the worst place I have stayed. We were there for a wedding and I couldn’t even shower, I had to go to where others were staying, at Ingonish Chalets and use theirs, it was so dirty. The toilet was horrible, there were ants, the place was so old, dirty, and grungy. The place was super small and no air conditioning. The only reason for 1 star was the view, and a half descent continental breakfast. I would definitely not stay there again. Not worth the $200 per night at all.

Nous avions un cottage privé pour 2, très cute, plage privée qui donne sur le levée du soleil, beau gros déjeuner à volonté! Les gens étaient contents de nous voir! Gros merci à la dame du déjeuner qui a fait une super job:)

We got a Ocean Front 1 bedroom cottage.it was a last minute decision to tour Cape Breton.the location and service so far is great. Nice little place.but the cottages need a lot of update and general cleanup around. I mean, first thing I had to do was get the broom and start getting rid of the spiders over the door and in the corner.the bathroom is crazy small and the shower smaller.not sure I can clean up in it tomorrow morning.and if your not going to add AC in the cottage, how about bigger windows that actually open? And even better yet, how about curtains in the windows you do have? Get rid of the satellite TV and give me AC and curtains! The only thing worth $200/night is the view.not the cottage.

Our stay at Glenghorm was exceptional - the waterfront and beach are incredibly beautiful. Enjoyed having nightly fires. Our cabin was clean and provided everything we needed for our stay. Dinner was yummy - but breakfast is indeed a light spread of bagels and beverages. No big deal, If that isn’t enough for you - bean barn beside them prepares an excellent full breakfast. Thank you Glenghorm, we’ll be back!

The room needs quite a few updates and a good cleaning, as well as a new mattress. The location is good along the trail as well as near the beach, but the photos online look nicer than in person. The staff was very nice and personable though!

Needs up dating. Bed as hard as the floor. Sunday morning no notice of the restaurant closing for dinner. When we came back later in the day a sign had been put up for closure for dinner. There are few places open. Fortunately we were able to order a pizza down the road just before they also closed. Beach was all rock immediately at the "resort". Air conditioner so old and noisy we turned it off to sleep.

Rooms are clean and tidy, filled with all the essentials you will need, and if anything is missing they are prompt to supply it. A literal rock throw away from the shoreline where the waves sound amazinggg all day through! The breakfast is a simple breakfast, all the classics nothing too fancy, but you're here for the views so it's okay! There are plenty of food spots minutes away from here! And a million trails also minutes from here. Location is 10/10 for sure!

Very nice location and view. The reviews on their restaurant are not superb, but there are very good restaurants around the area. Just so your research.

Was surprised to find the dining room closed for Sunday dinner, had a real problem finding anything open. Beds were the worst, sleeping on the floor may have been better. Hardly what is called a resort

If I could rate this place less than 1 I would. An awful room with even more awful custom service after that fact. The room was not clean, there was no hot water, the water was undrinkable to name a few things. After repeatedly trying to get ahold of management, I was hung up by a supervisor. No compensation was given. Be aware, stay away

Arrived a little early…. ”no problem sir, your room is ready. ” Cleaning staff very friendly, great recommendations on what to do for the day. We stayed in a $200 cabin, which I would of paid more for! Clean and cool. The beach was fantastic…. And the VIEW…. What can I say but absolutely stunning! Can’t wait to come back. Thank you staff, you made us feel so welcomed

We arrived late evening and were greeted with an enthusiastic and efficient welcome at the Glenghorn.

Rooms are spacious and clean with some elegant trim - for a Cape Breton hotel. Lovely panel wood ceilings.

A continental breakfast complements the stunning views. And this evening we also enjoyed fireworks visible from the balcony.

Located in right on the Cabot trail. What a fun place. We rented a top floor apartment in one of the cabins. The room is huge to say the least. The view and scent of the ocean through my window is almost more than I can take. It's just a complete package that makes me really happy.

The bed I slept in was a queen. I had two to pick from in the stadium size bedroom. Okay not stadium but huge none the less.

They have really deep tubs. After riding motorcycles in the rain all day it felt good to warm up in it. I'm 5'11 and I was right really impressed by a tub my size. The tub jets were not working but I didn't mind.

Free breakfast. I am still in bed so I'm not sure how good it will be but I'm a little excited to see because everything here is just lovely.

And we spent the evening last night at the pub right here at the cabin. I had hot wings and they were really good.

The people running this place are such wonderful people. We have only had positive interactions with people staying here. Canada in general is still such a friendly place.

I got a great price from priceline for a room here and they were upset about it. They didn't want to give me the deal but had no choice as I had an email receipt proving it. They gave me a dirty room with the hardest and oldest mattress I've ever seen in a motel, plus there was no hot water for my shower in the morning. When I told them, they laughed and said have a nice day. Due to the fact that I already had a good deal on the room, wasn't expecting money back but I at least expected them to offer me another space to shower which of course they didn't do. I would highly recommend you go a little farther down the road. Lots of beautiful places on the ocean to stay. Next time that is what I will be doing.

Stayed one night in mid June. Great price for the location. Clean, bed was comfortable. Some mentioned the mushy smell and it’s true but we didn’t find it too offensive.

A fantastic place! Comfortable, clean, and spacious. The staff is warm and helpful and the location and amenities are excellent. We had a wonderful stay.

Overall good location on the trail but no food available. Restaurant wasnt open for a few more weeks and all the other restaurants in the area were closed by supper time. I got the impression they were scrambling to get ready for the season with evidence of work going on in most of the buildings and areas. Beds were HARD! They did bring an extra duvet to put on the mattress but were the worst beds of our trip. No pathways on the oceanfront suite you felt like you were walking all your stuff up the slippery grass. Oceanfront pretty but lots of rocks make it almost impossible to walk on or enjoy the beach.

Our room was partially under ground, the floors were concrete, my wife got stuck in the bathroom because the door wouldn't open and the bed was so hard I had to use the comforter on the matriss to try and soften it.

Loved this place, the chalet was so cozy and cool, considering we went in the middle of hat wave, you dont even need shoes for the walk down to beach, it's perfect for star gazing at night, and fires on the beach in your own private area if you want. Live music in the pub every weekend. Highly recommended.

No closets, or bureaus, in the beach cottages. You have to live out of your suitcases while you stay there. Toilet paper rolls not hung on the wall. No where to put toilet items, no counterspace.
View from cabin, plus the beach in front, was nice. So was the view of Cape Smokey

We stayed for two nights and even during renovations and needing updating the place was very clean and staff was very nice. The food at the restaurant/pub was a little pricy but we didn't mind, it was great food and really enjoyed the fish and chips. It's also on a beautiful beach with a brand new looking playground/ fire pit area that seemed too be a big hit for the families there with kids. There's also enough little seating space on the resort for couples to get away from the noise of kids playing in the area, and plenty of places to walk. There was even a bachelor party going on while we were there and had no issues with noise or rowdyness and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Definitely would return!

Disclaimer: We were initially hesitate because of the poor reviews. However I believe that a person is more likely to go out of their way to complain than complement, so we gave it a go.

We stayed in the Muir building. The room was clean and well insulated against noise from our neighbors. Our second story room had a superb view of the ocean, and the balcony provided a private place to enjoy it. The bathroom was well equipped an clean.

All in all I am pleased with our room and anticipate staying here again on our next trip around the Cabot trail. Would recommend.

Stayed at this place for the second time. Great location off the highway and on the water. Motel is showing age but new owners are transparent about currently undergoing renovations and updates to improve it (delays due to pandemic). Free breakfast was continental and simple. Ate dinner at the restaurant and ordered the chef special of the day “seafood pasta” and it was phenomenal! Will continue to recommend this place.

An absolutely lovely place to stay. New ownership is doing upgrades. We had a cottage right by the beach which was wonderful. Only slight drawback was internet was spotty there. Good in other locations on the property. Service was excellent at FRONT desk. They are working hard on getting restaurant backup and running. Only pub was available for our stay for dinner. Restaurant served complimentary continental breakfast. Overall we were extremely pleased with our stay.

They're doing a lot of renovations to update the rooms. Service was good, and having the beach right there is really nice. Would stay here again 100%

This one is one of the most challenging reviews I wrote. And I let a week pass by before typing. However, it is clear that the management is trying to turn things around and resources to do so are limited.

We had a room booked for three nights, and the first thing we recognized after opening the door was a dehumidifier running full thrust. The room had a damp problem, which was easy to identify. Still, they rented out the room. Towards the washroom, the wasn't even a curtain or other means of separation. The combined shower and toilet room are in dire need of a makeover, and the air condition was from times of the Apollo mission.

I checked out their Restaurant in the evening, and the food was surprisingly good. The staff was friendly and helpful. When the waiter came in I peeked at his name tag.and his name was: "Staff"! I bet the guy had a first name. Can't they even craft an individual name tag?

Breakfast the following day was OK. Walking to the beach, you saw that a lot of reno is going on; some upgrades on the cottages and suites looked pretty new.

Overall, the place is in a lovely location. Unfortunately, someone missed to upgrade the spot the last ten years, and that's why the review overall is average with a notch to positive. Still, renting out our room for that price was.

Cottage was AWFUL and not as advertised online. The door to the cottage had multiple cracks/openings between it and the frame, so cold air and bugs could get in. You could also just push on the door regardless of it being locked and it would open. The cottage was very dated and grimey. We were fortunate to get a refund. Would not recommend. We drove an additional two hours to stay somewhere else that night as I was mortified to stay there with my family

Cottage was not clean, very dated, dirt in and under the beds and sheets were stained. Not worth the money paid to stay there. Continental breakfast was good but the 6 feet. Social distancing was not enforced. Would not recommend this place.

Amazing little resort, a few steps away from the beach. Cute little pup with great live music on weekends. Exceptional service with a smile. Great WiFi signal. Close to lots of tourist attractions. Very well maintained property. Cute little play area for kids. Sandy beach access.

Overpriced, understaffed, unkept, and unsafe!
We stayed two nights, and both were equally horribly loud and disruptive. There was no housekeeping available so there was no toilet paper remaining by the second day. We complained the day after our first sleepless night due to loud partiers, who were yelling until well after 3am, and our complaints were received poorly by a receptionist who seemed incredibly apathetic and had said they already spoke to the people who were making so much noise. That same night, we expected much of the same behavior and had already acquired the contact number to the office if/when we were subjected to the same noise. It was after 11 pm when we decided to finally make the call to ask for some sort of intervention, and when we called the office there was no answer. There is no security or staff available in the night to respond to any sort of situation should it arrive. Being tired and desperately wanting sleep, we spoke to the loud patrons ourselves and managed to convince them to quiet down. We were thanked the next day by our neighboring guests.
Upon check-out, we were ready to inform the desk staff of another unpleasant night. There were 3 other guests with similar experiences already waiting at the desk, with no staff in sight. We waited about 10 minutes and all the other people waiting had abandoned hope and thrown their keys on the desk to finally be rid of this place. We waited, wishing we were able to attain some sort of apology or refund, but nobody ever showed up.
We too left our keys on the desk and begrudgingly went home.
Never again will we visit the Glenghorm, and neither should you!
