Our experience with Jimmie was fantastic. We were on vacation touring around Nova Scotia and wanted an authentic Atlantic salmon fishing experience. Jimmie patiently answered all of my many questions online leading up to the trip and did not disappoint when the day finally arrived. He was kind, personable and patient, taking the time to teach my wife and two teenage sons about the strategies and intricacies of fly fishing for Atlantic Salmon and adjusting his approach to suit each student. From a keen 13 year old to a slightly less interested 16 year old, Jimmie knew just how to deal with everyone to make sure they were having a positive experience. Not only does he know how to fish for salmon, he has a deep understanding of the environment and great respect for these incredible fish. As a father and the only truly passionate fisherman in my family, I truly enjoyed watching Jimmie impart his passion for Salmon fishing to my family. In fact, I enjoyed my time shooting the breeze with him on the riverbank as much as I did the fishing. He is a man perfectly suited to his chosen profession and I can’t recommend him enough. Fished two Great days with my two grown sons and Jimmie. Jimmie works very hard to make sure you have a quality fishing experience. Our family of 5 had an awesome morning with Jimmie. He was so patient with us learning the techniques of fly fishing - some caught on faster than others. We experienced a special time on the river - something that few Nova Scotia tourists experience and I highly recommend scheduling a fly fishing excursion with Jimmie. He knows all about fly fishing and living on Cape Breton! We ended our morning with a trip to The Dancing Goat Cafe- highly recommend the egg breakfast sandwiches. He is knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. He is kind and patient not only with clients but also with others he meets on the river and with staff at local shops, etc. He has a wider appreciation for nature, and can tell you about the local ecology.

My husband and I spent a terrific morning on the Margaree with Jim Logan. My husband has some experience fly fishing, but this was my first time on the river and because of Jim's patience, amazing humor, and knowledge, I was able to lay out some great casts by morning's end and now I'm hooked on fly fishing! My husband and I are thankful to both Jim and Jimmie for this excellent guiding company. As a new comer, Jim made it easy. For my husband, Jim taught him more casting techniques and gave him some tremendous advice for the future. We can't wait to come up to Cape Breton again and spend another Great Day Fishing!

We celebrated my brother’s 40th birthday with a fly fishing trip to the Margaree in early July. All of us have quite a bit of fly fishing experience, however not being familiar with the area or salmon fishing, we decided to hire Jimmie as our guide. Jimmie is an excellent fly fishing guide. We spent a full day with Jimmie, trying several different pools throughout the Margaree. It is clear that he is passionate about his work and takes a great deal of care to ensure that his customers are well outfitted and in the best possible position to hook a salmon. Jimmie’s knowledge of fly fishing for salmon is vast. While on the river, he taught us specific strategies for hooking a salmon as well as several new casting techniques. Jimme’s knowledge of and love for Cape Breton is also immense. His numerous stories and anecdotes of the local area kept us entertained throughout the day.
Jimmie went above and beyond what we expected from our fishing guide and he made our day fishing one that we will remember for quite some time. We are already planning a trip back to the Margaree! If you are in the area and looking for a guide, we strongly recommend hiring Jimmie!

I’d never been salmon fishing before and I had no idea what to expect. All I did know was that I was terrible at fly fishing. I’d done it a few times as a kid and spent more time undoing knots than I did fishing so I was unsure as to whether I’d enjoy doing it for a full day. To cut a long story short it was the best day of our trip which happened to be our honeymoon.

We met Jimmie around 6am and headed off for the river. Within just a few minutes it was clear to see that Jimmie loves what he does and is incredibly passionate about it.

Jimmie spent about fifteen minutes explaining the basics to my wife and I before he turned us loose on the river. Under his careful instruction both my wife and I were casting consistently and fairly easily in no time.

We fished for about four hours before we took a break and went for a late breakfast, early lunch and a great cafe called the Dancing Goat. I should add that during the morning I caught my first ever salmon which was an experience that I will treasure and remember for the rest of my life.

After lunch we headed to a different spot on the river where we fished for the rest of the day. The scenery at both spots was stunning and just casting in itself was a lot of fun. Even if I hadn’t caught a fish I would still go back and do it again. Our only regret was that we didn’t have time on our trip to have done another day.

Jimmie is one of those great guys whose incredibly knowledgeable and a lot of fun to fish with so I’d encourage anyone to book with him.

I booked a full day of guiding on a bit of a whim, I’d only picked up a fly rod twice. Jimmie provided both excellent instruction on casting as well as tips on reading the water, but also gave me space when needed. My plan was to enjoy being outdoors amongst the beautiful fall colours; I had no expectation of catching a fish. It was a true surprise, and a great testament to the skills of the guide, when I actually hooked and nearly netted a Salmon. To have all this, and also a gallery of fantastic photos taken by Jimmie of the day to share with family and friends, was an amazing experience and great value in my opinion. As Jimmie warned me I think it will be a long winter thinking about getting out and trying to hook another one! Highly recommended for both novice and experienced anglers.

Thank you Jimmie for showing us the most beautiful day! My husband and I enjoyed the most gorgeous day fishing, chatting, and enjoying the scenery during our honeymoon. Jimmie is extremely passionate and knowledgable about salmon fly fishing. (He's also quite an inspiring guy, and it's contagious!) We can't recommend enough spending a morning and afternoon learning and appreciating the art of fly fishing. We can easily see why Jimmie fell in love with Cape Breton, and hope to return again soon.
