This is a tourist fortress worth visiting in Halifax. Make sure you take the time to see the guard handover show, shooting show, and cannon show!

I found the museum in the main building much more interesting than the big gun going off or watching the teenagers in period costumes marching around the grounds. The museum has relics and artifacts from the Canadian military from wars past, war trophies from soldiers, and more curiosities to learn from as well. I found that area the most fascinating. Take your time and enjoy it.

Beautiful historic site - not a lot of star forts in Canada, and this one is well maintained+ there's cool historical stuff in English/French with old views of the city skyline and the harbour to compare

I would like to see more exhibits or inside more buildings like the Fortress of Louisburg. There is alot of the Fortress that is not utilized for tourists. But it was great to walk around the Fortress on the second level

I went to Halifax Citadel Nov. 11 to celebrate Remembrance Day since it was free and was fairly busy. They had been firing off a cannon every hour and I arrived just before the last noon "blast", it was incredibly loud and felt like getting hit in chest with a 50 lbs medicine ball and my ears were ringing for a couple of minutes after. A little boy standing beside me screamed out loud and started crying as a result of the shock of blast but then relaxed and was smiling after a hug from mom.lol!
I spent around an hour walking around but my phone had run out of battery, so unfortunately I couldn't take any photo's.

We got married at the Citadel and it was perfect! It rained all day, but Julia and her team went above and beyond to ensure our day went smoothly and our guests were taken care of. The staff helped us decorate and tear down following the event. The meal was fantastic and Liz’s napkin folding was a work of art! If you are looking for a classy and elegant spot for an event, then the Citadel is an awesome choice.

What a great stop. I could have spent a few hours here. It was very well layed out with lots of information. I was outside for the noon canon shot, followed by the changing of the guard. It was an experience.

Also prior to visiting I had no idea that Nova Scotia was almost the 14th colony of the United States.

I think its great they preserved it as a historical site. I am grateful we don't live those terrible times. People should visit, learn, and be grateful for every day of peace

I would say don't miss to visit this place. Very old historical building. Amazing architectural design. From outside it looks just an ordinary place but when I entered inside this area, I was overwhelmed. British army served at WW1 and WW2 from this place. There are some exhibitions to demonstrate the history of british ruled Canada.

If your time aloud, make sure you visit in the noon to witness the noon gun that has been fired everyday since 1857. With the costumed guide provided by the amazing staff, you will feel be so close to the history.

Un endroit absolument magnifique et magique.
Riche en histoire, vous pouvez également passer votre journée sur la pelouse en admirant la vue à 360°.
Très ludique également pour les enfants avec les canons, le murs de Chateau fort etc.

If you made it to the top and feel like giving a miss to this place, think again:
- low entry fee of under 10 CAD, if I remember correctly
- however there is no parking here
- run by volunteers doing re-enactments all the time and you are welcomed by them in their Scottish costumes
- check the site for the re-enactment times and in between visit the many building around the square and in the middle of the square if you want to learn more about the history of Halifax.

Had a great tour with our taxi driver Shobit to many highlights of Halifax. This was one of them. The fort sits on top of the mound with views of the port and city. Kiosks show the old with the new city, some fabulous brick buildings are still standing.
