Hearthstone Inn Boutique Hotel Dartmouth/Halifax

This hotel has BED BUGS and I don't think they ever washed the sheets, it even had Blood stain on em. AC smell like mould and hallways stank. People come and go as they please during the night. Smelled like cigarettes also.

This is a small Inn and great value for money. My room was very clean from the bed linens to the washrooms. The grab and go breakfast was well done with a muffin, nutri bar, fruit cup and yogurt. Staff were efficient and helpful. The location is great next door to the Superstore and easy access to downtown and the highway. My room was huge with a fridge, microwave and toaster oven. The bed was super comfortable and the pillows were excellent. The decor is interesting. Free parking. A great deal would book again.

Please book this hotel with caution. This hotel does not meet with any expectations as a boutique hotel. I never stayed in a hotel as dirty as this one. Washroom has mold and smells, very dirty. Hallway dirty. I had to get the cleaner to get the bed cleaned. The lady cleaned the floor and still dirty. Air conditioner is old. Every where is dust and old smell. Entrance to the hotel is very dirty. Your view outside to the hotel, you do not even want to open the curtains. Honestly this needs a major renovation.

Good location, reasonable price and looks like they are trying to work on the hotel a bit.
Unfortunately the young woman that checked us in, seemed very uninterested in service.

Worst hotel ever! Don't let the picture fool you. It was disgusting. The rooms are dirty. Hair everywhere, nicotine pouring down the walls, shower full of hair, water damage and mold. Noparking and a sketch hy area. Be cautious!

This is a very Economical hotel to stay with very nice staff, very cooperating people, very clean rooms, all day coffee is complementary, the only suggestion to the hotel would be, considering the market price they can increase their prices litte bit, but breakfast they offer, towels and bathing stuff can be improved.

Nowhere is clean.bad smell, old and damaged structure. Cannot imagine the towels are in brown. Hairs and dust in sofa.we did not dare to sit in any chair or sofa.

The staff were very friendly however my room was not acceptable especially at $160 a night. It needed to be dusted, the walls need to be washed. The bottom of the shower curtain was quite dirty, bathroom floor needed to be washed, there was some mold in the shower tiles. The microwave had food splashed all in it. The furniture has been well used, some cosmetic upkeep could be done in the room we had, and it had a terrible musty smell. They also need to upgrade their key card system. I had to have my card reprogrammed 4 times.

This place was gross. The air conditioner has been spewing moisture into the walls for a long time (photo) - high potential for mould and structural damage. The furniture was old, worn and stained (photo). The bathroom floor was filthy! Brown towels? Yikes. The tub did not drain - not because of a blockage, but the actual drain stopper was jammed into the drain hole! (poor maintenance). Keep in mind, this was the “upgrade” four poster bed Suite with a fireplace for nearly $180!
The elevator is tiny and had two certificates displayed: the elevator licence and a pest control certificate! On the way out, I snapped a photo of the storage room - yes, it appears they store the “clean” linen there, too!
There was a run down apartment building next door, which appeared to have been a motel at some point. It attracted a rough crowd. There’s not enough parking, but you can park at the nearby grocery store (recommended - well lit).
The staff were pleasant.
Spend your money somewhere else, like a newer hotel in Dartmouth Crossing or Burnside.

This hotel is really bad the reviews are lots of lies had hair in the bed beds were dirty and all those stuff didnt even stay 1 night becuz how dirty it was not worth the price:/

Very disappointing stay. It's suppose to be a boutique hotel. However upon entering, everything was very cluttering. The lift is so small it barely fit the trolly. Room wasn't very clean. A lot of dust on the lamps. Parking was so limited we had to park in the grocery parking lot.

Cleaning staff stole our hand soap and didn't replace it. Stole our cups and we were told they had ntil completely ran out of cups. Stole food from our room (packaged, sealed, unopened). Didn't clean my room or my parent's room, whom gave the request to please clean it. Gave 2 excuses. 1) that the hotel door was locked. Yeah, they lock automatically when you leave? And 2) that they only clean until 3 pm (not true, housekeeping was cleaning at 9 pm the night prior). We were out that morning at 8: 30 am and didn't return until 8 pm. House keeping was there and left bags outside the door with a single towel for a 3-person stay and soap only for the room from which they did not steal the soap. Not a single piece of furniture matched to another is that room or any other rooms. One of the rooms was themed as an offensive "general East Asian" room, having everything that seemed to be from Chinese or Japanese culture, but it was all a Mish mash of white artists. One Japanese painting (by a white artist) featured script that was supposed to appear as Japanese, but was just a series of random lines (my bf reads/speaks Japanese). One of the beds had a huge crater frunning through the legt side. The baseboards near the shower were all sevrely water-damaged. The walls are so paper-thin that my dad could hear me speaking at a normal volume level from two doors down. Generally though all the furniture is tacky, the rooms are all painted different colours, and nothing matches anything else. It's like someone had all this old antique stuff, realized that antique stores aren't super hot on the market, and decided to use it as furniture for an inn instead. The breakfast was nice though. And the automatic doors at the front were nice.

The pictures online look nicer than in person. Every area of the building we were in needed work. The room was not the cleanest and the lobby smelled like cigarette smoke. It was close to highway access and the bridge to downtown. I would not likely return.

I wasn't here for the hotel experience, so my review isn't based on any of that. I was attending a comedy show in the basement of the hotel at their famous comedy club called "The Comedy Cove". It was a nice looking lobby of the hotel, I can say that at least. But again, my wife and I were there to see a comedy show. Which, the Comedy Cove is pretty cool. It's a bit of a "hidden gem". The Emcee was funny, the entire show was hilarious, and the bar & food service staff were wonderful.

We got to the hotel Sept 3rd nice old building, got to our room and seemed ok till I looked at the floor it was filthy, the bed sheets had brown marks on it, and the garbage in where you could make your coffee had pill bottle and razor and other stuff, so yeah garbage was not emptied, the dust on the pictures in the room were thick. Staff was great but won't be going back there left a day early.

Booked a room directly from the hotel 11 days in advance of our stay, got a confirmation email with all the right details including a confirmation number
. Showed up and there was NO room. I showed the clerk the confirmation email and got an explanation that didn't make any sense to me. There was little if any apology and no attempt to help us find a room elsewhere. We had driven 17 hours from Ontario and had NO PLACE TO STAY!

Booked a room via trip advisor, came to check in with my family. The turned me away saying they do not have any rooms available even though I showed them my booking reference number. All she could do was apologize.did not help find another hotel. Trash service would never book here again, left me stranded with my 8 year old.

They oversell their rooms and don't even notify people that their reservations don't actually exist until you get there. Booked directly through their website too (no-third party). Please get it together.

Faulty website that books, sends confirmation and charges your card even when they have no availability! They put us in a horrible position, having to drive 45 minutes out of town in order to find a hotel. We had booked days in advance. They didn't even apologize!

Clean enough. Could use some renovations and upgrades. Stairs to the first floor felt like they were about to collapse under my feet

Arrived and went to check in only to find out that they had overbooked for the night and had no rooms available, despite having a booking confirmation number.the desk clerk was apathetic and offered nothing in the way of solutions.we were the third consecutive booking in line that this happened to.inside, this place is a glorified fleabag motel.avoid at all costs.

Never booking with this place again. Booked a room Aug 20 for Sep 4-6 (long weekend). Paid ahead & received confirmation #. Called this morning (Sep 4) & “sorry your name & confirmation # don’t show up, we are fully booked, bye”. No offer to find another hotel, no offer of an immediate refund. We’ll call back Tuesday & discuss a refund.

DO NOT COUNT ON A CONFIRMATION!

I reserved online even got a confirmation email but they told me the website has been discontinued with them. Ruined our entire weekend

I had made a reservation yesterday directly through their hotel website. I received an email confirmation saying that my booking was confirmed. Upon arrival, I went to the front desk to check in and was informed that my reservation didn’t exist. When I asked why, I was told that there was some sort of glitch with the website and I was the third person today who showed up a “reservation” only to be told that it isn’t in their system. If there is a glitch, I’m not sure why the website was still up if this was a known error that the hotel was aware of. I had driven 8 hours with 2 kids and now we have no where to sleep tonight. Just before writing this, I had gone on their website to see if you can still book a reservation, and you still can even though they’re well aware that it isn’t working.

It was a good experience. The hotel has an antiqueish decorated with obvious though in the process. The building is aged but maintained.

Not a lot of parking available, but extra available at the superstore across the street and down the road.

The room was nice, beds comfy. There were what looked like coffee stains on the linens.

Brown bag breakfast available in the morning with coffee and tea, hot chocolate would have been great for the kids.

Overall good stay.

In my entire trip across Canada and back to British Columbia this was the worst hotel by far. The room stunk and it would take me two hours on the motorcycle with fresh air to clear my head. I would not stay here regardless of the price. Definitely do not recommend!

The most comfortable bed I've ever slept on! Super cute rooms with microwave and a mini fridge. The only down side is there is barely any parking and if it front if full you need to park way across the street at the superstore

I booked a room for my husband who was on business in the area. I got a confirmation number and he got a confirmation email. Then he arrived to check in and the staff member quickly told him there was no reservation, then smirked and said “sorry” sarcastically. Unbelievable! Beware that they intentionally overbook and are completely unapologetic about it!

This property was outdated, need of repair and needed to have a deep clean. In our room, there was a large puddy patch on the wall behind the door, looked like the ceiling had a prior leak that was fixed but not properly repaired, the tub had rust around the drain, no counter space in the bathroom, the safety bar on the wall had rust where it was attached to the wall, had terrible water pressure in the shower, someone's long black hair on the the new towels, the desk chair looked like it had mud all over the chair. The dining room was in a bar, which was dark and also outdated. Chairs were old and hard. Menu was handed to you on a mini clipboard. When leaving the hotel a guest was complaining to staff their shower wasn't working. To finish our stay, upon leaving two fire trucks in attendance with no audible alarms.

I will Not recommended this hotel to anyone. Never had this bad experience ever in my life that I had here

Awful experience from the minute we walked in the hotel it is old and outdated don’t get fooled by the pictures you see online it’s no where close to what you see. Lobby carpet is filthy there was garbage everywhere in the hotel. Elevator smelled like mold and smoke so we decided to take the stairs only to discover that it’s falling apart it’s shakes when you step on it SCARY. Our room door did close properly we had to use force to open and close it. The bedding was disgusting. One bed spread had a huge brown mark on it, the pillows had dirt on them and the sheets were stained. When we got onto our floor in front of the stairs and elevator was a pile of garbage. They barely have any guest parking we had to park in a grocery store parking lot. Worst experience ever in a hotel. Will definitely never come back to stay here. There was hair and dirt all over the AC. Way over priced for the condition of the room.

Arrived and there was no room for us after receiving confirmation by email. Staff response was short and VERY rude. Rather than explaining the mistake, staff used a rude tone and kept interrupting. Poor customer service

This hotel needs a lot of TLC. The main stairway to the third floor shakes when you use it. Some of the stairs have wood braces, what is that all about? The furniture is worn and the who place needs to be renovated. I am giving it a three for value and the fact that I had a comfortable room with a lounge chair, 50" tv, and a 4 post bed. Also, the staff on the front desk was very friendly.

Not the worst place that I have stayed in but definitely not the best. The the beds and pillows are uncomfortable.we had to switch rooms because the one bed broke when we sat on it, the bath door was broken and could not lock same as the main door. The wall are paper thin so we could not sleep. Both rooms were not very clean and smelled like weed.

It was mostly clean, friendly staff, elevator worked, the bag breakfast was a good alternative with Covid.

I paid for a month stay and paid for another month and then a couple weeks my checkout was suppose to be yesterday i went to checkout i was told by arlene and the owner jay that i wasnt getting my deposit back no damage in room and i had to cancel my checkout and paid to stay longer
