Hearthstone Inn Port Hawkesbury

My Husband Is currently there and just looking at the room I can tell they've done Minimal Updating.
The room Has NO HEAT. IN THE MIDDLE OF FALL.
The front desk & Restaurant is probably the only good thing about this place. This is incredibly sad as someone who use to live in PHK, this place has become a dump. It'll be closed soon enough like the Skye lodge.

The girls upfront are the sweetest! Room clean, well decorated. Clean bathrooms as well. Modern t.v. With a guide on the remote. Rooms are spacious with comfortable beds! This place is great, take my word for it!

I thought this was in Port Hastings but Hearthstone had decent motel rooms with a great view of Canso Causeway right out the door. Dog friendly!

Awesome motel for the price and you can't beat the view. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Perfect stop on the way up north.

Upon arrival to the office I was greeted by friendly front desk staff, checked in quickly, without issues. The room I was staying in was across the road from the check-in building. The walls were a little thin, so I could hear conversations through the wall from neighbouring rooms - a minute detail. The room was spacious and clean, and a great starting point to do the Cabot Trail. The morning view was phenomenal!

Broken mattresses, paper thin walls, air conditioners louder than jet engines, bathrooms that have seen much, much better days.

Nice room, spot to put my head after a 12 hr shift and the tv was the bonus.

Only complaint was the drain was right out side my door so the heavy down pour kept my up at night but great spot and would stay there again.

I'd assume that people writing very negative reviews are used to big chain hotels that give the strict illusion of cleanliness and perfection - which is fine, that's where I usually stay too.

The fact of the matter is, this hotel is in a small town in Cape Breton, and has cheaper rates. The room is clean and renovated, yes there are some cracks in the tile, but does that matter to your stay?

If you need somewhere the stay near the causeway that's clean, quiet, and has great customer service, this is it! Plus, pet friendly and low rates, and their restaurant is quite and has good diner-esque food.

If you're looking for a big city, chain hotel experience, this probably isn't exactly what you're looking for.

But some day we'll wish we had this small businesses back.

Clean, practical rooms. Not fancy but has good, comfortable beds. Staff are friendly and efficient. Only lost a star because of a chilly shower in the morning. Will definitely stay here when I'm in town.

They were booked, but took the time to help us find another place to stay for the night. Very clean. Kind, kind, kind.

For the night of June 12,2020 Booking.com has the listing for around $95.00 per night but the hotel website lists there rooms for about $160.00 per night.
What gives?

Stayed earlier this winter on a hockey trip. The rooms are large and clean. I like the fact that the cost won't break the bank! I would stay again!

A comfortable room with an amazing view across the Strait of Canso. Staff are very friendly, good food from a diverse menu.

Have always liked the Hearthstone Inn in Port Hawkesbury until this last visit.
The room was not as clean as I liked to see it. The water in bathroom sink was very very slow draining and the water had a terrible smell to it. Basically this made the whole unit smell bad.
In future we will not using this hotel.

We didn't have a view, and the pool was not open. This diminished our stay as we had banked on having pool time with the kids. The pool was across the street from our room so that would have been an inconvenience. But it was a good place to stay for the night.

Pool broken. Put us on water side- contractors on both side, not ideal for kids or family trips. No matt at door of room drag water all over place. Room small. In corner room rain from roof funneled right at our entrancr

It's a low budget motel, let's get that out of the way. For what it is the place is excellent, the rooms aren't the most up to date, but are cleaned well. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. The in house restaurant has a nice atmosphere and great small town cooking. All in all its a 4-star low budget motel and you get what you pay for.

Rooms were clean. Bed was comfortable enough. Can hear the shower and toilet of rooms next door. Was just ok

The motel has all the basic necessities. The staff are friendly. Tap water tastes weird. The room is not at least sound resistant, you can pretty much hear everything from your neighbors. Dinner takes forever to be served but the waitress is really nice. Food was mediocre. Breakfast was served faster and also good price.

We thought this Inn was great for the money!
Rooms were spacious with all amenities plus having the restaurant so close was terrific, the food at the restaurant was really good and excellent price and service.

The receptionist who greeted us was very courteous and and kind too us as we got their later in the evening!

Rooms were clean except for the cob webs hanging from the curtains. Furniture is in need of replacement. Only one old worn out desk chair, therefore no where to sit except for on the bed. Bathroom fans so loud even the people next doors fan woke me when they got up through the night. Was discussed that they put an older couple next to the kitchen, was listening to kitchen noise till almost 10. Rough trip around the trail with hardly no sleep. Thank god for decent places to stay in Ingonish

Pretty good stay with all amenities. The water tastes terrible though, even just to brush your teeth. Yuck!

We booked our room through Air BnB but when we got to the motel, they advised they did not see the booking (never happened to us before). I showed them the booking and price, to which they said they could not match that price, so we were charged more. Because it was late at night and we had our daughter, we didn’t have much choice but to stay. The room was not the cleanest - the shower head was green and even after trying to clean it ourselves, it wouldn’t come off. The top blanket on both beds had obviously not been washed recently. We could see and feel dried up spills of whatever.
It was much too expensive for a motel. Would not recommend.

Motel across the street from the main unit. Run down needs attention. Better motels in the area to choose from

My wife and I found this nice place on our way through Cape breton, n.s. The price was very reasonable and there was nobody there so it was nice and quiet.plus the king size bed was a real treat. Thanks for being open and keep the price reasonable and we will be back again thanks.

They complained about my car lights being on? Because they had a volley ball team. How disappointed I am after spending money here all the time.stay away from this place.plus the womancat the desk was rude to me

We forgot our credit card, not thinking we needed it to get a room overnight. But we did need it. She called the boss and she said it would be okay to let us have it!

Front desk was very friendly and accommodating. Room was clean and cozy. I will definitely be returning when in the area!

Everything was ok exept that the bathroom wasn't clean. Black spot on walls, stain on door and long dark hair in the bath tub

Driving late for our reservation. Hotel called to confirm our stay. Stayed till we arrived after the office closed. Then stayed to make sure our room keys worked. Awesome! Rooms were very nice and beds were super comfy! Thank you!

We had trouble figuring out if were at the right location because there were signs on both sides of the highway and a second sign for McPuffin. The motel itself is in need of some renovations but it was relatively clean and the staff were nice. We could hear the people walking above our room late into the night.

It was ok, no free breakfast as advertised, indoor swimming pool closed for the season, most rooms dont look like as advertised.

The experience was awesome. Pauline at the front desk went above and beyond to accommodate me regarding personal preferences and she absolutely made my day! So friendly and very helpful! Thank you Pauline.

No kitchenette. No bbq.they want u to eat at the restaurant every night.and i ends up being 30$ to eat there every night and the foods nothin special.the rooms are old and the a/c doesnt work.and looks like the showers havnt been cleaned in ten years. Just a dive

Not impressed. Quiet old and beat up. I can live with old, but it was also quiet dirty. Particularly the bathroom and floors. One of the two beds was wore right out. Way to much money for what it is. For the same price, we stayed at New Best Westerns with free breakfasts, on the main land.

Don't ask me digitally 3+ times to review your motel when you clearly charge double to anyone booking online. According to the woman at reception on check-in, I would have gotten much cheaper rates if I'd called. Apparently there's a huge penalty for suckers like me who book online. She did her best to accommodate us, but she had no authority and seemed afraid of her boss to go above and beyond from a guest.

Advice: 1/ Call to book, 2/ Ensure your room is on the new side of the highway (Old side is.well, old. And gross.)

While to a typical spot for me to stay, the accomodations were clean, comfortable and the staff friendly.

Très décevant! Air climatisé très bruyant, chambre humide, plusieurs bris dans la chambre. Que dire du déjeuner non inclus. Oeufs mal cuits et "garochés" dans l'assiette, bacon quasi vert et même pas l'équivalent d'une tranche, pommes de terre vieilles et non ragoutantes! Je n'ai tout simplement rien mangé car mal au coeur! Nous ne reviendrons jamais! Je ne conseille en aucun cas!

Our room was noisy. Seems like the bar was just behind our room and we heard banging all day and night. When we complained they offered to move our room at 8 pm. The hassle of packing up all our belongings and getting dressed to move was crazy. The alternative offer was $19 credit. $19! Outrageous. The cleaning staff were cleaning rooms around us earlier in the day and were cursing up a storm and banging in and around the rooms. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I give it 2 stars because the reception staff were professional and tried their best and the room was clean. That is the extent of my satisfaction.

Great location along our motorcycle touring route. Simple but well-appointed room where everything worked and everything was clean. Mattress was amazingly comfortable. Handy restaurant with great specials directly across the road. We would stay there again.

Low quality for high price. Advertised indoor pool, but pool only open in summer - an indoor only open in summer? No tea in the room. Sink was leaking the whole time. Toilet was making noise constantly. Remote for TV didn't work properly.

Rooms are very nice and the restaurant the people are so friendly and the food is so good. Will be back for sure!
