The food was delicious, but had its flaws. The yellowfin tuna belly was much leaner than we thought and steak was unevenly cooked - some pieces being cooked to medium while others were cooked to rare. However, the croquetas and scallops were really delicious. The mojo rojo sauce was fantastic as well. The music seemed unnecessarily loud, but that may have been due to the rowdy group that was at the restaurant.

Fantastic ambiance, gorgeous cocktails, and food that will make you wonder if you might not just be in Spain for an evening. Highly recommend!

I visited this restaurant with three friends, and our experience was extremely disappointing. We arrived at 8 PM and had to wait for more than two hours for our orders to finally arrive. What made it worse was that each of us received our dishes separately, which made the evening far from enjoyable.

To make matters even worse, there was an incident when I took my glass of wine outdoors to smoke. A female waiter, (illustrated on the postcard given to us with the bill) approached me quite aggressively and attempted to grab my glass of wine without properly explaining the rules. Given the recent global pandemic, I expected a higher level of awareness and hygiene from the staff. This experience was far from what one would hope for, especially in Halifax, Canada. One star is generous for such a disappointing visit.

I would strongly advise against dining at this establishment. Not only was the service shockingly slow, but it was also incredibly overpriced. Our group ended up spending nearly $250, and what we received in return was subpar food portions and unacceptable service. This experience left a sour taste in our mouths, both figuratively and literally. One star is more than this place deserves.

Upscale cocktails and tapas place perfect for after work drinks. On the pricey side but worth it.

What a cute little spot for an intimate dinner! The tapas options were great to share with each other. Everything was delicious. Our waiter was really nice and attentive too. They also have a nice bar area to get drinks either before or after dinner. Will definitely go back!

We came here for happy hour and had the best time! Oysters were so so tasty, we got to try three different types from around the maritimes, and the cocktails were insanely good. The vibes were also excellent, decor is so charming and welcoming and the playlist was top tier. Highly recommend for fellow cocktail lovers!

My experience was amazing. Food was top tier, along with service and drinks. I still can't get over how perfect my spicy marg was, the scallop crudo and the gnocchi with pistachio pesto and peas. These were stand outs, but you can't go wrong with anything!

This place gave me great satisfaction when I came to Halifax for the first time. Reservations are a bit tight, but the delicious food and friendly servers delight me. I ordered a variety of food, so the price came out quite a bit, but it was a fun time to eat with my beloved wife.

We are soon to leave Nova Scotia after three very happy years to return to the UK and regular visits to the Highwayman have been highlights in terms of eating out here. We love everything about the place from the warm welcome from the lovely team to the exceptional food and cocktails. We were so lucky to have a place like this on our doorstep and everyone we have taken there has been wowed by the quality and taste of the food and drink here. Our favourite dishes are the simple but delicious pan con tomate, the pork belly and fennel pinchos and the croquetas but to be honest we have enjoyed pretty much everything. Thank you to all the team for many happy evenings at the Highwayman. We wish you ongoing success for the future. You are doing a great job!

Amazing little spot in the city Spanish influenced dishes and chef created presentations that will dazzle any foodie! And tantalize your palate!

What can I say other than a great all round experience. The food is a modern twist on Spanish tapas. Each dish is a delicate balance of textures with a freshness you don’t get in the classic versions.

This place was rocking. One of the best tapas bars I've been to and definitely tops in Halifax. The vegetable plates were stupid good

So good! We went for happy hour and it's an absolute steal. If this place was in Paris, NY, LA, etc.it would be absolutely packed from 4 to 5. Excellent platters and oysters, $10 cocktails, and a cool but unpretentious vibe. We'll definitely be back!

Was a decent experience as I was from out of town. I found it was a little difficult to get the waitress attention once we had our drinks as we are being ignored.

The drinks had been pretty good and the atmosphere itself was nice. It's pretty dark! You don't need a reservation if you go during the week but I suspect you'd need one of you go Friday night or weekend evenings.

The cocktails were amazing! The food was delicious but nothing that made us go “WOW”. Loved the atmosphere and the open kitchen. The service was lacklustre, very nice people but we felt like we were being ignored. At a restaurant with this level of food we just expected a little more from the service. The oysters and olives & almonds were the best! We felt the two veggie dishes that we ordered were too similar in composition to stand out (gnocchi and carrots).

Each dish was excellent and the selections were inventive and deftly prepared. Wines were well selected. Servers were friendly, efficient. Try to sit away from the door, which can admit an unwelcome breeze if folks hold it open too long.

MY daughter was visiting from Ontario and we went her for dinner. We arrived a few minutes early and were told we could not come in until 4: 00 pm opening time. It would not hurt to be allowed to come in and sit to wait in comfort rather than waiting outside. Once in, the food was very good with strong flavours and everything was delicious. We had the beef, scallops and shrimp and they were all excellent. The portions were small and we were told that was because things were intended to be shared; not sure why that makes for small portions... Service was good and our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the options.

A colleague recommended this place. Wow am I glad I visited. It was a difficult choice and I’m so glad I went with the croquetas, they were crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. The I had the pork belly and scallops. Great food and presentation, great staff with interactions with a few of them.
