Scott Nicks lack of integrity and professionalism is deplorable and he should be replaced as resident manager of spring garden terrace. His actions are a very poor representation of your company. I’d give zero stars if I could because this company totally sucks and is a pathetic excuse for property management.

Aren’t concerned about their tenants stealing from other tenants.wont check cameras to see if it was stolen.killam tenants beware.

3565 connaught Ave is by far the WORST building I have ever experienced living in, the property manager is rude, unacommadating and ignores my phone calls/texts about concerns.my unit was dirty upon move in, Neighbours are extremely inconsiderate about noise levels especially at night, I’ve made multiple noise complaints only living here for a year. COCKROACHES (photo included) dirty hallways that are only cleaned semi annually (photos attached), tenants driving un-safely in the parking lot, I could go on.

I am writing here about a harrowing and traumatic experience I had at Sybyl Court.

My name is NC and I am a Permanent Resident of Indian descent. I moved to Halifax on 8th June 2023 from Mississauga, ON. I applied for the room from Ms. Benet on Kijiji platform. Ms. Benet is the leaseholder of the apartment, which is a 2-bedroom flat. Ms. Benet and her friend occupy the master bedroom and the second bedroom was rented out to me.

Ms. Benet did not give me a sublease contract or apartment keys. I thought she would need time to prepare the document and duplicate keys as I moved in on a weekday. I should have suspected something then. However, I trusted her. I too was busy as I joined a new job and the training is intense. Within a week of moving in, she sent me a WhatsApp message asking me to vacate the flat. When I asked for a reason, she rudely refused.

I cannot think of any reason as I am a clean and quiet person who was hardly there in the apartment as I work long hours. So, I hardly had any time to interact a lot with them. I strongly suspect it is religious discrimination at play here. I am a Muslim on paper. She did ask for my religion on my first day, and I never thought much about it. I went through undue stress, financial loss, and fear as I was absolutely new to Halifax and do not have friends or family here.

Ms. Benet sent me the message in the morning when I was at work, causing me to panic, lose focus and feel so scared at the prospect of ending up on the streets. This I felt was so inhuman and lacking in basic compassion. Had she spoken to me in person after work, I wouldn't have panicked so much. I have chat screenshots as proof.

In the next few days, I frantically searched for another place and moved out on 17th June though I had to pay extra for the same thing. This is because I felt vulnerable living in such a hostile situation. There was plenty of hostility and micro-aggression, where I was berated for using the stove, and denied using the dishwasher and washing machine. She also withheld my money (the rent and security amount which I paid in full at the time of moving in) for an extra day on the pretext of "reviewing the room" just to harass me further. She took money for 10 days, wi-fi and electricity bill even though the power bill wouldn't be out for another month.

If you have any system in place to prevent leaseholders from harassing newcomers like this, I would request you follow through with that. I would also be forwarding this complaint to the police.

Please understand that my intention is not to trouble anyone but to prevent this from happening to another person. This has been such a harrowing experience for me and I had nobody to help me. People move cities with a lot of hope and dreams and an experience like this for a new single woman in a city was so scary. I don't want Ms. Benet to do this to someone else. That's the only reason I have to file a complaint.

Since I am making a formal complaint, I expect them to make up lies against me. However, I have our chat screenshots in which she rudely refused to give any reasons for illegally evicting me.

I scheduled viewings on the website so many times and applied for two apartments until now and NEVER heard back from them. Literally nothing!

- building is infested with roaches.

- they are constantly shutting off water all day with no notice, and no timeline of when you’ll be able to flush your toilet other than “soon, probably. ”

- laundry is $5.50 a load and the machines don’t work.basement’s littered with dead roaches.to refill your card you need to go to the office, which is almost always locked, including during office hours.

- in fact if you need anything they tell you to go to the vacant office, which at 9-5 is most people’s work hours.management seems confused by their responsibilities, won’t even deliver keys to their tenants when they change the locks because they’re not “chasing everyone down. ” and no, they don’t tell you when the keys are ready.

- changed my move in date the day before i was set to move in.i had already booked a u-haul, there was no other availability for weeks, and had to move out of my old apartment.i called ahead and asked could i at least store my belongings, as i need to return the truck.they told me i could still bring my things and leave them in a different unit.i arrived and they told me actually, there was no where to put my things, other than the sidewalk.they then just disappeared.they had me leave everything i own, electronics, mattress, art, outside on the sidewalk overnight in a rain storm.luckily i had somewhere else to sleep.

- told me i could go with any wifi provider i wanted. I had eastlink come and there was no coax, turns out they had renovated over it and didn’t know where it used to be, so after months of appointments with various providers i had to go with bell.we were without wifi for months and spent a fortune on phone data as i was a student.

- they’ll have people come into your unit when youre not home and never update you on what was done.just don't live here.

Theres a reason everyone hates killam. Worst property managers in dartmouth or halifax and my god are they greedy for that they provide and the rules they give.

I live in the buildings on veronica dr and boy oh boy do not let these people fool you. Killiam apartments do not give a flying F about you, who you are or what you've done to keep enriching these parasites.

For years I lived here feeling safe and happy with a clean pest free home and the past 3 years have been a living hell.

This country was founded on immigration but what they're doing now is ruining the system that's already extremely fragile. Killiam is allowing people from India to rent out apartments and pay a holding fee for them until they arrive in the country.

When they arrive killiam doesn't teach them or integrate them into our system instead they say "here's the key and thanks for your money"

What this has been doing is inviting racism, lack of communication and major pests and sanitary issues.

For the past 3 years of them doing this we have been constantly infested with roaches and mice. We have been evacuated from our homes twice for fumigation all for nothing. I'm still killing on average 5 roaches a day.

To show you how much they don't care about your existence. If you have a noise complaint. They tell you to call your RM and have them come into your home, intrude on your privacy and sanitary conditions during covid just to "see" if they can hear anything and deem your word creditable or not.

There is no trust. Only money for them.

Oh one last cherry on top of the cake. Make sure if you do rent from them, make sure you personally sign the rent increase every year. They frauded our signatures and we owed them 400$ without even knowing it and when confronted about it. The RM said we were crazy and that our signatures were on the papers. The signatures were not of mine or my wife's.

Be weary. These people only care for one thing.

Just simply trying to simply sort out some Administration issues, but no one wants to talk. Do better Killam.
