Kyo is an amazing local establishment. If you like detailed knowledge of Sake from Japan and the best companion foods, you've come to the right place. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is perfect and the staff are great. If you like Japanese bar food and sake, you should 110% make this place your next stop.

They no longer serve ramen. Many food items were 86'd when I went on a Thursday evening. Focus is more on drinks, where they have a large selection. I'd say moreso "Kyo Bar +/- Kitchen"

Always a great place to grab dinner. Me and my partners go to for a nice date night with cocktails

AWFUL. AVOID. Ordered the gyzoa - undercooked, store bought, 4 of them for $16? Also ordered the pickles, which were just mushy cucumber in Asian dressings with buttered bread. The mussels were disgusting - bland, pale and sickly looking, and took 45 minutes to arrive. I don't even know how many tens of dollars they cost for garbage. We got the bill and didn't finish because it was so bad. Writing this and feeling sick.

The best part was what they did with our drinks - pouring the beers in multiple glasses, making them foamy and flat (what? !) And giving us different drinks when we ordered the same.

Server was clueless. Awful awful awful.

Katsu waa great, our ramen sadly was not. It was cold and so was the toppings. The waitress was wonderful and offered solutions to fix it and took our feedback positively. We highly praise her for being wonderful.

Burger was amazing, Shady Business cocktail was very good. Server was very friendly, and atmosphere was great.

Went here for dine-around Halifax. The Tonkotsu ramen had about a centimetre of solid oil on top, making it unpleasant to eat-it was like drinking grease. Beneath the thick layer of oil was a rather disappointing and bland pork broth that lacked any depth of flavour. The miso ramen was very acidic. I went with three others, and none of us thought any of the ramen broths were good. The things in the ramen, like noodles, meat, mushrooms, and other veg were great. However, the broths were all out of balance.

Beautiful little spot, menu is nice. The food was tasty, but we are almost certain the waiting staff and bartender were intoxicated or high. Forgetting everything, food coming insane cold, just all over the place. Server even admitted to having a gin ceasar before his shift lol. I'd say still go just keep on top of your server or u will be forgotten

Friendly staff, the cocktails are flavoured, oysters with the special soy sauce are super tasty,

The food was fine, the drinks were okay. My friends and I had the drink special which was a whiskey sour and there was functionally no foam on the top which is pretty bad for a fancy cocktail place. Usually a sign of not using fresh ingredients (like fresh egg whites). It’s a pretty cute space, but I just don’t think it’s really worth the cost and there are other good options in Halifax for cocktails and food.

First time at Kyo Kitchen tonight and it was super chill, cozy, intimate and awesome. The food was fantastic and the drinks were too! Friendly service and wonderful presentation. I can't wait to go back

You will be charged an 18% gratuity fee on top of your bill. You will then be asked by the machine again to tip another 15-25% on top of the bill, tax and first gratuity. My problem is that when I asked the server to clarify, I was given an uncomfortable indication that I should be tipping them all over again regardless. Pick one.

It didn't help that the other members of my party had to argue to have some gyoza that never arrived, removed from their bill.

Will not return, will not recommend, the food cannot make up for the predatory charges. Sour end to otherwise enjoyable evening.

Our drinks took a half hour to come to us when the place was half full. When the drinks arrived they were uninspiring.

The waitress made me wait for 6 minutes standing although there were a lot of empty tablets, I don’t know if that was racist or not. The food was just okay

If you’re reading: visit Kyo. By spending your time and hard earned cash here, you’re winning a lottery in excellent service, cocktails and cuisine. This place is a no-brainer if you like delicious cocktails and fantastic Japanese cuisine made with intention and passion.

Don’t think about it. Just book that reso or walk in. Get on it.

I love Kyo! I have enjoyed my experience there every time I’ve been. The food is super tasty and the staff are amazing! The bartender was so sweet and made me a fun glittery drink! Definitely recommend.

Great service experience, the whole wall of wine is very atmospheric. The kitchen is closed around 10 pm, only a few dishes. Hopefully, there will be more meals at night lol. Wanna try ramen next time.

A curated sake list that is well thought out, unique, exclusive and paired perfectly with an amazing menu! The servers/management are passionate about what they do and it's executed perfectly!

We were looking for someplace to eat and stumbled upon this restaurant. I thought prices were a little pricey at first but I absolutely loved everything. Worth the money honestly. The food was fresh, drinks were tasty, and the service was incredible. I did ask for sake to have brought out with my food and I think they forgot but that’s okay. Stuff like this can happen at restaurants. I definitely recommend this place!

Best service in town, but the food was soooooo bad. Way too salty that it needed to be remake by pooring the boil water in but told me that they would remake it (words from this server and action from the other) and no flavour at all, just taste the salt and water. The drink is fine tho.

The restaurant has a nice look and ambience but the vegetarian ramen was bland and without flavour. Not an ideal option if someone is vegetarian or vegan in the group

Had a wonderful dinner. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and even brought us out roses at the end since it was our anniversary. The osaka fries and tonkatsu were delicious. For dessert we had a matcha cake, which was the perfect way to finish off the night! Will be back for sure:)

Went there tonight and was quite disappointed, paid $25 for a cocktail that was one of the worst I’ve ever had. Not balanced, and flavours didn’t match very well. On top of that, they used a different gin than what was listed which was a lower quality and half the value. Out of the 5 drinks that were ordered, only 2 tasted reasonably OK.

Service was unbelievably slow, it took upwards of 10 minutes for drinks to get out with less than 10 people in the establishment.

Unfortunately, the drinks were FAR overpriced for what they were which sucks because there are lots of places in Halifax trying to curate great experiences and unfortunately this place is not doing that.

I had the most wonderful time dining here, Daphne made our experience unlike any other! We felt so taken care of the entire night, they are an incredible person. Great spot with great people: ’)

I tried to place an order for pick-up 40mins before close and was refuse.who ever answered the phone said they already did last call on food, which I find super unlikely for I work in the restaurant industry.

Beautiful, cozy place. They made our last call from the kitchen feel so warm? Had some fresh oyesters with Saké and chicken Ramen. It was so good. All cheers to the team. Will go back for sure

Went here twice while in Halifax! Everything that we tried on the menu was incredible but their donuts were especially addicting! Will come back again on our next visit!

My partner and I went there for brunch, and in a word: underwhelming. I saw this photo of the karaage chicken and waffles on their instagram and I thought to myself I HAVE to try this. I took a picture of what was put in front of me and I guess this was one of those social media vs real life interactions. A fraction of the sauce, chicken, and corn. No green onion. This was just sad to look at and even eat. Chicken and waffles is a blend of sweet and savory, but this was all savory, no sweet. The kaarage wasn't that crispy/crunchy and I was thoroughly dissapointed. I also ordered a cappuccino which came in this comedically small cup, which is fine, but it didn't even taste good. My partner ordered a lychee mimosa which was alright and the breakfast ramen which was okay but had nowhere near the flavour as Coda Ramen. The atmosphere of Kyo is pretty cool, good vibes, but the food left much to be desired.

Reasonable prices.
Service was friendly and attentive, and the food came with a good speed.
Will definitely be coming back.

What a find. Amazing late night Izakaya menu.
The beers and cocktails were creative, tasty and potent. The staff were super friendly. Hardly looked at the menu; just followed the suggestion.

Dreamy noodles, Bulwark cider on tap, great service. I wish I had visited sooner.

I got the tantanmen this time with no regrets, but they have a fried smoked oyster sandwich on the menu that I'm dying to try so I'll have to make it back there soon.

I ordered the Tonkotsu which was delicious as an overall package, the karaage was crispy and delicious as well. They were very generous with the portion sizes and the condiments as you can see with the photos.

Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the noodles could be better, they were too soft and over done and the service was extremely slow given the bar setting.

Couple mistakes were made during the order, I ordered black Tonkotsu but got the regular and I ordered an add-on of karaage but got the full dish. It would have likely been rectified if I mentioned it. Our waitress was great and she was likely overwhelmed with the volume of patrons so not a neg against her!

Was excited to find Kyo as I love ramen but sadly nothing I ordered stood out: ramen noodles were overcooked and tonkotsu broth devoid of flavour, karaage chicken was completely flavorless with too much batter, gyoza were similarly underwhelming, and the short ribs were tough and chewy. On the plus side the cocktail list looked great but the condescending attitude of the bartender was a particular turn off, especially the glee she seemed to take in turning away people who didn't have a reservation. It's a shame because Kyo is a great space but way overpriced for the quality of the food and experience. (PS - servers handing debit machines that default to 20% for a gratuity is an even bigger turn off, though to be fair this seems to be a Halifax thing - owners please pay your staff properly instead of having them panhandle customers for exaggerated tips.)

We had an absolutely wonderful time here! The food was so gourmet and the cocktails were inventive and expertly crafted. Best night out I've had in years. Kudos to the very delightful staff. Will be back very soon.

Cute inside and a good menu. Food took 45mins and the Ramen was like warm, but it was probably tasty when it was fresh! Gyoza's were tasty.

This is classy Japanese Fusion dining at its finest! For the past year this has been a go to restaurant of mine, and I have had so many great memories there. All of which involve outstanding service, delicious food, tasty beverages. And all within a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy it all in! ️ To my fellow Haligonians, and anyone visiting from outside of the city, if you’re looking for a bite to eat and want to try something new, Kyo is the place to be! 10/10

We went during the live jazz performance hosted on Saturday evenings. I couldn't think of a better combination than jazz, drinks, and ramen, and there isn't a better place to go to get all three done right! We are so thankful for the perfect evening.

Great with making exceptions. I always dine out and the order is made to go very quickly. Always fresh. I get the Wasabi Salmon poke bowl with regular mayo. It fills you up and makes you feel good after you’re done eating!

I had my birthday dinner here with my boyfriend, best birthday dinner I’ve ever had. The ramen was amazing and so were the cocktails and desserts. The service was outstanding. Can’t wait to come back here again.
