The hotel bungalows are pretty and clean.
In the middle of nowhere, you basically have to dine and breakfast here, and also you dont have many things todo beside the resort - but the pools and hottubs are big and there are some other things todo there.

In terms of food in the restaurant, its very good.
The dining is well done, but you should reserve. The breakfast is awesome. The birds and squirrels outside as well as the diningroom itself create a relaxing atmosphere!

Only problem is, as other people already written, the whole resort seems to be ran down by the owner (s) with only little money invested into maintenance. It would be a shame if it would stay like that.

The rooms were nice, but there was no plug for the tub and the blow dryer sparked. We had a delicious breakfast and the staff, Chantel was exceptional. After checking out, we attempted to walk the trails as we paid, a fee unknown, for them. The trails were a mess. Poorly or rather unmarked, poor map to follow and you could definitely tell they hadn't been maintained in years. We went back to the Lodge to let the front desk person know. She dismissed us with a monotone yes yes. These trails are well advertised so if every person staying at this Lodge is charged the $15 maintenance fee I'm wondering where that money goes. Misappropriation of funds. This needs to be looked in to. I will definitely not be returning.

This place is trash.

This isn’t a knee jerk review because I had an unfortunate situation, this place just sucks. I travel for work all over the province and this place is bottom of the barrel.

- The food is a 2 out of 10. I had the pan fired haddock and it was dry, came with 2 mini potato’s, 1 Brussel sprout and 2 piece of broccoli.

- There is NO cable in the rooms…in 2023 …seriously? There’s a ROKU box where you can stream your own subscription content from, but no local cable. Wild.

- The Wi-Fi in the rooms is “OK” but the Wi-Fi around the property is spotty

- The place is dated but food / accommodation is priced as if it’s still 1988 when this place was considered “high end”

If you’re someone who spends more than 2 nights in a hotel per year this place will feel like a massive let down. The holiday inn in Sydney distorts this place. Enough said

Stayed for two days in August. Rooms were a bit dated and in need of a refresher, but were clean and comfortable. Pool was nice, but games room was shabby and in need of new equipment. Reception and wait staff were friendly. Food was NOT good - nowhere close to what you would expect from a "resort". Risotto came out molded to the shape of the container it was microwaved in; elk burger was obviously not fresh and over-cooked; baked brie was miniscule. Seems like a real missed opportunity, as there's not much else in the area. Hire an NSCC culinary grad and focus on fresh, local ingredients.

We had dinner here while visiting the area and had wonderful service by a very sweet woman whose name I didn’t catch. Our favourite dishes were the bacon wrapped scallops and the chocolate mousse cake.

We attended a wedding, which was beautiful in and of itself. Service was great, location scenic. The rooms, however, were not the best. It seemed dated and the mattress was very uncomfortable.

Stayed overnight, had lunch and dinner there, went for a short hike along the river, then relaxed in their indoor pool and hot tubs.

We had 2 rooms booked for the weekend of Nov. 26-27,2022. We were there for the Sherbrook Village Christmas. When I booked the rooms. I called to verify that we could order from the menu on that weekend because they were having a buffet that was way over priced $50 a person. I was told yes menu would be available. When we checked in we were told that it was buffet only. We had to drive half an hour to the nearest restaurant to be able to have Supper. We also couldn't get breakfast because it was buffet only as well. The vending machine in our building was out of order, so also unable to get snacks. The phone in 1 room did not work, so unable to call out. Took my grandkids over to the pool and there was a couple going in the sauna. The woman thought it was appropriate to take off her clothes and go naked with children around. Very inappropriate. Very disappointing and would not recommend this place to anyone. $205 a night and could eat or get a snack.

I went here during the summer, and it was great. One of the best resorts (in my opinion, of course.) Service was great, food was great, the only thing that isn't 5 stars in my opinion was I had to wait a while for my food, but other than that, 5 stars, 9/10.

Family goes alot during the summer was getting a lot better and then got terrible sketchy stuff happening around there because they have some sketchy people on staff sad to see a part of our history get distroyed

My husband and I were married at Liscombe Lodge this summer and we could not have asked for a more perfect day and weekend. The grounds are absolutely stunning for a picturesque wedding ceremony by the river and the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. In particular, the wedding coordinator Karen was a dream to work with and went above and beyond to help make our day exactly how we wanted it to be and to make sure everything ran seamlessly.
Our celebrations started Friday night with a meet and greet for all our guests, swimming in the pool Friday night followed by the big day on Saturday with a plated dinner. The food was amazing! Hats off to the chef. Saturday night we had all of the chalets on the riverside rented out so we were able to decorate around the bonfire with lights and tents and have an outdoor party with live music. There’s lots for guests to do during the weekend including hiking, kayaking, swimming, boat tours and more. It was not just a wedding but a weekend getaway. All of our guests had an amazing weekend and said it was the best wedding they had been to. We would highly recommend Liscombe Lodge for weddings!

Stayed for 2 nights but not really 2 days as check in was 4 pm and check out was 11 am. Lots to do like hike trails, bike, indoor pool/hot tub/sauna, go out on a canoe/kayak but dining was expensive ($20 per for breakfast and not many other options to get food) and property is in need of upkeep. Highlight of it all was the river tour by Captain Chester who's pleasant personality and extensive knowledge of the area and history of Liscombe made our trip! Thank you so much Chester, you are an asset to Liscombe Lodge!

This is a very comfortable spot to spend the night on the way from Yarmouth to Cape Breton. Most of the rooms and cabins are close to the lovely river, ospreys and eagles fishing along with a kingfisher. It was raining or we'd have tried the long trail from the lodge. Food was good for dinner and breakfast but the dinner service was very poor. I stood at the restaurant entrance for nearly 10 minutes before a server even acknowledged my presence, despite plenty of open tables. Not what you should expect.
19 September 2022 6:18
Love this spot. If you really want to get away. It's beautiful. The staff is fantastic. It's also a great spot to get married.
08 September 2022 5:29
Bel endroit dans la nature. Hébergement et resto très bien. Vaste terrain de plusieurs chalets divisés en chambre. Nous avons appréciés le bon service.
05 September 2022 7:42
The property was grand in its day however it is getting very tired and worn. Needs a little TLC. To be fair all hospitality properties are starting to get back up and running after Coivd. We stopped for lunch and staff was very friendly and helpful. If I am driving by again one day I will certainly stop back in for lunch or dinner. Nice location on a beautiful river.
19 August 2022 9:58
Best meal I have had at a restaurant in some time. Great service, the planked salmon was perfect, the homemade coconut cream pie was absolutely delicious
13 August 2022 23:16
We stayed one night at the lodge

My expectations were high, given my knowledge of the property when it was owned by the government.

I grew up in Ingonish, NS and my father worked at the Keltic Lodge. The Liscombe years ago was a sister lodge to the Keltic along with the Digby Pines in Digby, NS. The Liscombe does not compare in regards to grounds, and ammenities. The Liscombe is in need of major upgrades and maintenance.

We were looking forward to the pool and hot tubs, and they were beyond discolored, stained, and dated. We did not feel comfortable using them

We were also looking forward to their trail system, which is also under maintained. They are in need of gravel, tree trimming and board walk to cover marshy areas. These trails should be in a condition most able bodied people can use.

The service was fantastic, the people are wonderful.

The food was also very good. The restaurant was my favorite part.

I'm hoping the new owner will put forth the effort needed to bring the lodge up to par before its too late and people get the wrong impression.

Looking forward to coming back once the maintenance and repairs are made!

Over priced big time. After spending nearly 300 on a hotel room not even a cottage, you still have to pay 20 a head for breakfast. If you plan on staying here bring your check hook and sell the horse before you come. Good food bit just way to over priced
07 July 2022 0:58
Stayed here a few different times and this time we are here for our wedding tasting with their amazing wedding coordinator Karen Wanus! She sat with us and went over wedding plans while we ate our sample plates and the food was friggen amazing! So hard to choose the one we wanted for our big day it was that good! Coconut cream pie is to die for! Can’t wait to come back for our wedding and props to the chef and other staff!
01 July 2022 11:48
We were very disappointed. Place is very run down. No effort to update, especially the rooms. The Lodge was still beautiful, but we paid $46 for two breakfast buffet meals, and it was not good. There was not much choice. Just like the hotels that serve free breakfasts. I thought we could choose from a menu. Also, no opportunity to watch a movie. Only satellite and even though the channels indicate there is pay per view. There isn't!

Most importantly please note, when we arrived for check-in, we were told there is NO cell phone service, and there wasn't. I have a medical condition that requires I wear an emergency button. Without cell service, I had to have my husband or son with me all the time.

One last thing, the website said it had a spa. In addition to pool and sauna.no spa. We were super disappointed and had to leave after 1 night instead of the 3 nights we planned to stay. When we checked out, the owner was apologetic so that was something.

Great lodge where my wife and I went for a few days. Food was incredible, and the rooms clean and spacious. Poor cell phone signal but the WiFi was good. Meals on the patio were great.

Liscomb Lodge is a favourite of my husband’s, as he has sailed here many times and knows Chester, the care-taker very well. He introduced me to it and now we stay there whenever we are in the area, which is surprisingly more than I would have thought. The Lodge itself is beautiful, and the restaurant is a favourite. The cabins are also one of the best amenities and we have stayed there several times. Right on the river, the location is absolutely perfect. Great staff too. Many of them have been here for a long time.

Food was bad, service was nil. Beds were way past their prime. Only two good things to say about our story, the lady on front desk was very nice and the St. Mary's River was beautiful.
14 October 2020 9:48
This place is beautiful the rooms are great and the activities are very fun. The only problem I had was that the restaurant was quite slow and in the last breakfast we went to eat and they took our order but after 30 min they came to our table and said they ran out of eggs so we had to order with out eggs but then they made us pick from the lunch menu because it was to late for breakfast.
29 September 2020 5:32
Truly a Nova Scotia gem. Rustic goodness.down home hospitality.so much fun.and great value. Many thanks to the fine folks of Liscombe Lodge: Jean; Stacey, Chester, our friendly dining room staff, and many more behind the scenes that made for a wonderful two nights/three days family adventure. So many activities.great food, and how about those welcome cookies. Merci beaucoup.thank you, and looking forward to our next stay. Craig and family.

Both my boyfriend and I were pretty underwhelmed by this place. We opted to pay more and rented a "chalet" for the weekend assuming it would come with chalet amenities, we called ahead to check what was in the room and found out there was nothing beyond a fridge and we'd have to RENT a bbq. Our bbq also came with no amenities, I'm not sure how the lodge assumed we'd cook our items. Thankfully I had packed lots of different things incase this happened. No glasses in the room, no utensils, NOTHING. Our chalet didn't even have a firepit for us to roast marshmallows. I don't understand how they can charge so much and give so little, it should be classified as rustic cabin with wood stove. The Lodge is quiet, and the bed and linens felt new, I'll give it that.

Unfortunately the staff are not knowledgeable, the breakfast is a pass, we went twice and were disappointed both mornings. The activities room is currently closed til further notice, the hot tubs are empty. Covid is to thank for the last 2 items, but everything else is just the lodge. I just can't recommend it.

Beautiful spot on the river, lots of activities, water sports, trails, great restaurant, works well for both family outings and romantic getaways.
01 January 2020 23:43
We stayed here for Sherbrooke Old Fashioned Christmas, which is during the offseason so the fitness center, pool, and games room were all shut down for the year so that was very disappointing and meant not much to do with the kids. The staff were not overly helpful or knowledgeable about what was open in their own hotel. The supper buffet was way overpriced for the quality and variety. The included breakfast buffet was amazing. So I would suggest making plans to eat most meals in sherbrooke or get supplies to make your own sandwiches (bbqs can be rented in the summer). However, I am already planning to come back in the summer. The room and lounge in the hotel were very nice with an amazing view of the river. The scenery and trails right from the resort are the best aspect. The summer months boost a large next of activities - pool, 2 hot tub, tennis, basketball, lawn games, trails, boating, biking, etc. I'll post another review once I've experienced a summer vacation here:)

Nice new dock and beautiful views. Rooms are a bit dated so some renovations should be done. Staff are friendly and accommodations are clean. Tasty food in the restaurant.
09 November 2019 11:07
Nice hotel in the middle of peace and tranquility. Service very good, but if you go there make sure you don't need cell service, and the internet is quite spotty.
Otherwise enjoyed the friendliness of all of the staff.

The Lipscomb Mills Lodge gets 3 stars. The major negative is that the rooms feel like they were built in 1970-1980 and have not been renovated. Definitely not a 3 or 4 star hotel.
The positives include a pretty setting, on the water and a nice view from the dining room, good quality dining room, nice nature trails and the option to do activities like kayaking. Beware, however, during June and July, when bug spray, will be mandatory.
29 October 2019 5:23
The best thing about this lodge is the restaurant and it's position! The cottages are old fashioned 1950s, and need updating. Clean and very cold at the moment! Chacterless! Staff are lovely!
23 October 2019 14:56
This place was amazing, we were here for a family wedding and it proved to be an awesome venue. Fall colors were just coming out, the wedding was held on the rivers edge with mini waterfall in the background just beautiful. The meal was buffet which was delicious prime rib with all the sides to match even Yorkshire pudding, yum! Our room was a nice size and the bed was very comfortable with our deck over looking the river so nice to wake up too. We did not get to enjoy the kayaks or boat tour but will definitely go back and take advantage of more that they have to offer. Breakfast buffet the next morning was also very good lots of options including baked beans and fish cakes or waffles! Definitely recommend this location. Only issue some may have is very very spotty wifi and no cell service maybe not so bad if you want to disconnect maybe have some human interactions.
07 October 2019 4:44
Amazing food, live music, bird watching, and so impressed with all of the other amenities like hiking shuffleboard swimming pool and free kayaking.
12 September 2019 5:10
Lovely location great views. The buildings look a little tired on the outside but inside they are very good. The bar/restaurant serves good tasty food. We opted for the buffet which at 31CD was good value. The salmon was very good as was the beef. WiFi can be a bit slow. There are plenty of hiking trails in the area. If you have mobility problems ask for first floor.
01 September 2019 9:22
I was very excited to stay at the Liscombe Lodge and the views from our balcony were beautiful, however, the service was lacking except the one maintenance guy. The room was not cleaned the second day and the only thing replaced was towels. The food was hit or miss and the server's weren't the best.
When we brought this up to management the only response was, "yeah that happens".
The property is needing serious repairs and upkeep.
Unfortunately I'm seriously considering not to return and not recommend the property.

A beautiful quiet place to get away for the weekend. If you like hiking, canoeing, kayaking and relaxing this is the place for you to visit!

You can also borrow a bike or fishing gear or head over to the rec center for some swimming or work out in the gym.

The internet connection is not the best and there is no cell phone service in the area.

The location is very nice and the rooms were clean. The nicest part about the resort are definitely the people who work there; they were very helpful.

The food we had for our dinner was absolutely delicious and highly recommend ordering the crispy chicken sandwich or clubhouse sandwich. It had to been one of the best sandwiches we've had in a very very long time. They're home cut fries were also amazing.

We hiked the liscomb trail and would recommend only going up the main side and return the same way. Do not cross over the bridge and continue on that trail as it is just a service road with no views and no water areas to see. Plus it is not well marked to get back to the main road.

Dog friendly place but we came across a loose beagle which came over and really came at one of our leashed dogs. We were not impressed. Never assume free roaming dogs are friendly. The owners seen us coming in advance and did nothing. We addressed it and they put their dog back in leash.
27 July 2019 20:54
We only stopped in to eat lunch at the restaurant. Great service, food, and a nice view of the water and wildlife. In our short lunch we saw many different types of birds including blue jays, hummingbirds, cardinals, woodpeckers, etc.
27 July 2019 17:00
Loved our time there. No cell service is my only complaint. The chalets were beautiful, lots to do, beautiful setting and the food was fantastic.

My experience was very delightful and I must say, the CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TRULY AWAZING! Also, an excellent place to buy gifts and jewelry.
