I was surprised to find that the museum was free the day I visited (Tuesday) very friendly staff. They had a Museum parrot!

So many fascinating exhibits! There was so much i didn't know about the Halifax Explosion and the many conflicts at the port over the past few hundred years. Very informative and well worth the 5 bucks I paid to get in. I was there for over two hours then got some fresh seafood across the street afterwards. Great way to kill an afternoon thank you!

It was very interesting and informative. You can completely immerse yourself in a sea adventure.

Maritime Museum of Atlantic, is a good place for the family visiting. Where you can find out not only about Canadian story of maritime, but worldwide as well. Some of the Museum items, are came from real ships!
23 October 2023 8:18
Great museum with interesting exhibits especially on the Titanic and the Explosion. The short movies were interesting too and being able to leave and come back the same day was a bonus.
13 October 2023 7:02
Great place to see right on the water. The place has stuff for all ages and a Titanic exhibit. Lots of cool models of different ships as well.
12 October 2023 10:20
Children & I had a wonderful day at the museum. So much to see and learn. I'm so glad we made the effort to go while we were visiting Halifax.
12 September 2023 18:54
This museum was very interesting and informative to visit. Being a Mariner myself, seeing all the history and artifacts that they had was very special. All the old boat navigation equipment from long ago that they had and such was really unique. The hand built model replicas of the old boats and steamers were a piece of history. Definitely worth checking out if you are in Halifax.
27 August 2023 18:55
Absolutely stunning museum with plenty of displays of ships from around the world. From the RMS Titanic to the RMS Mauretania, there is no disappointing part of this museum. Would recommend a visit for anyone touring in downtown Halifax.
25 January 2022 10:32
A must go for anyone. Beautiful models and other interesting stuff. All that for free! You will be glad you went
22 January 2022 12:58
Amazing museum, very interesting and the boats of course are incredible to behold. But the BEST past was Jeanne, the lady at the ticket counter. Our 3.5 year old son wanted desperately to get INTO boat. Jeanne ran out back where a lovely man named Eamonn ran a Boat School, which works with refugees and at-risk youth and teaches them to buildbboats from scratch. Eamonn was working on a commission and allowed our son to look around the boat school, sit in a boat, pull the sail up and move the rudder. Just pure kindness for no reason from two lovely people. Thank you, Jeanne and Eamonn.

Really interesting and worth visiting this museum. So much information to learn about the history and immerse in the province's past. Loved all the different types of ships and things on display. Usually closed on Mondays I think (or it was when we visited).
24 December 2021 6:33
Very educational. Learned some interesting facts about Titanic and saw many cool war ship models.

I'm November 7 the 1872 the American brigantine Mary Celeste sailed out of New York City bound for Genoa, but never reached her destination
Twenty seven days later on the 4 the December, she was discovered adriftand deserted in the Atlantic Ocean off the Azores. A Canadian brigantine Dei Gratia found her in a disheveled but seaworthy state, under partial sail and her lifeboat missing. The last entry was dated ten days earlier.still amply provisioned. Cargo of denatured alcohol was intact. The Captain and crews belongings were undisturbed. Sadly none of those who had been on board was ever heard from again. At a salvage hearing in Gibralter no evidence for any theory was found. This article appeared in Irelands Own November2 ND by Gerry Breen.

Great museum! Lots of boats to look at and learn about. I was mostly interested in the titanic exhibit. I wish there was slightly more to it, but I understand there’s only so much space. Still worth seeing and the museum is a great price!
06 December 2021 23:25
A great spot to learn about the history of the shipping port. Learnt a lot without it being long and boring! Great exhibits! I would highly recommend if you have a few hours to wander
03 December 2021 6:47
I was drawn in by a collection of wooden daysailers. I stayed for 2 hours as I learned about the maritime history of Halifax. This was time well spent.
19 November 2021 22:38
This museum is incredibly detailed and has an extensive collection of artifacts! So much Canadian history and the titanic exhibit is very interesting.
17 November 2021 13:10
Incredible. The displays and curation were so well thought out, and the staff was lovely (especially Merlin the parrot! I spent so long playing peek-a-boo with him). We were so impressed by the overall deliberation and super cool insights at this museum.
17 November 2021 12:35
You must visit this place! The entire museum is worth the visit but the Titanic exhibition is precious!
Pictures of the rooms and their menus! Everything is so interesting.
09 November 2021 4:22
Very Informative and entertaining for kids and youth! Good way to spend a couple hours learning about the history.
08 November 2021 9:55
Awesome place, fascinating displays of specific maritime history with concise but fulsome descriptions. Well laid out and flowing. Need a full day to take it all in. Only drawback is 4pm closing time in the summer. Uhhh why?
03 November 2021 20:29
Really amazing history and I didn't realize how much Halifax harbor was impacted and assisted with the Titanic! The staff were also very helpful and friendly
18 October 2021 5:06
I just have to start by saying I was definitely NOT ready for the awesomeness I found in this museum.
My group and I were discussing whether one of our days in Halifax should be spent here or at an art museum, and the consensus was that this would be a more unique experience. Spot on, it was - you can learn a lot of interesting things about the settlement and the way of life in the Maritimes by visiting this museum.
15 October 2021 4:04
Came for the Titanic artifacts but it’s only a small part of the museum. Tons of very delicates ship models.

Parrot is cute too.
05 October 2021 17:44
WoWzer fantastic wonderful and exciting.
Great Atlantic Museum. It covers everything!
One could spend days wondering through their exhibits.

I've spent a lifetime! I take all my visiting friends down to the museum to show off Atlantic Canada.

Wonderful real boat exhibits!
Vessels I sailed on in my youth.
And numerous other examples I would loved to ventuure a day on the waves in the Halifax Harbour.
To many other local exhibits to mention.
Look at the photos- so exciting, glamorous,
educational & wonderous.

It also has model building & actual boat building on site. It has vessels parked on the waterfront wharves beside the Museum.

A must see Adventure! Do not miss it!
05 October 2021 9:09
Fun self guided museum, with lots to see. It's free through till the end of Aug 2021. I found the Halifax explosion exhibit the most informative/interesting. An hour is plenty with kids, but you could spend more time reading each exhibit if you were so inclined. Lots of full scale exhibits and smaller models to entertain/entice all.
04 October 2021 21:28
Tons of interesting information about the Titanic, the Halifax Explosion, and the World Wars. They also have a parrot there who drew quite a bit of attention, especially with kids.
28 September 2021 17:27
Very interesting and Nice.
Even if you arent a specific fan of boats, all can appreciate the craftmanship of reduce models and chill with merlin the macaw.
20 September 2021 11:10
Superbe musée. Personnel accueillant. Petite déception pour l'exposition du titanic: je pensais que exposition était plus grosse et plus d'artefacts.
10 August 2021 11:46
Terrible experience, In the middle of moving exhibits out and still open. Totally ruined my experience. Could you be any louder, do not worry I am not trying to read about that exhibit, please move it out here. If you are going to move exhibits out out so maintenance so it during the hours you are closed.
16 July 2021 3:11
This museum contains the artifacts of the Titanic ship and the blast of 2 ships.

There was a parrot name Marlin which is famous to repeat your words. On Canada day the entry of museum is free.
13 July 2021 19:56
Fantastic place, excellent displays, very informative walk-through. A must see for the Halifax waterfront and its history. Added photos of the menus from the Titanic.
28 May 2021 4:16
A great museum to see Titanic artifacts and to learn the history of the great explosion of 1917 in Halifax.
23 May 2021 16:04
I've always been interested in the Titanic since I was a young child. I have always enjoyed visiting the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. They have many interesting artifacts, and the staff are very knowledgeable.
27 April 2021 5:57
The volunteer that did our tour was well spoken, with great knowledge and good stories. He made it interesting. The second part of the visit I had to cut short.it apparently had been recently painted.although there were no signs to say that.
22 April 2021 20:20
Love this museum- especially the models. My favourite part is the shipwrecks section. I visit here nearly every time I’m in Halifax
13 March 2021 21:18
Definitely the most interesting stop while in Halifax for the week end. They have so many types of displays and so much history. Merlin was a great host?
27 February 2019 22:07
Nice spot for an indoor tour of the Maritime shipping history! Or things you would like to know about the Halifax Explosion!
26 February 2019 1:38
I loved this place. The Titanic exhibit was awesome and so was the rest of it. I especially like the other shipereck stuff. I learned a lot of things I never knew. I had limited time here but could have spent 4 hours at least.
19 February 2019 11:11
An interesting museum that includes a huge number of model replicas of boats of all variety. I'm not an expert on naval history or naval engineering i had a blast exploring with a few friends. If you're visiting in the winter the outdoor ships are likely not accessible but in the warmer months these ships are accessible to explore.
29 January 2019 13:46
While in Halifax did my research walked through the lobby unfortunately time restrictions made it impossible to see further. Next time for sure.
25 January 2019 9:06
A must see place. Enjoyed my visit. Took me to era of Titanic. Much to see like the first sailing poster of Titanic, stuff retrieved from the sunken ship and shipping history. Much detail about shipping on the east coast can also be found tgere
20 January 2019 11:20
I highly recommend visiting the MMA and having events here where possible. It is a beautiful facility. We were fortunate enough to have our wedding here this past summer before the museum stopped taking private booking in the large gallery spaces. The staff are excellent, and working with Ian Mullan was a pleasure!
16 January 2019 14:43
If you visit Halifax and want to say that you have been to Halifax, this just the place to learn about what Halifax went through over the past century, This museum is a home for the history of Halifax explosion and The Titanic incident. It’s worth your 1-2 hour of your visit.
03 January 2019 6:46
Theodore Tugboat, Titanic, Halifax Explosion, Sable Island, need I say more. Favorite museum in the city, well priced and endless knowledge and awe
02 January 2019 11:49
27 December 2018 0:37
It was fun joining the workshop on rope wreath making. I hope they would have more of these kind of projects year round.
21 December 2018 0:10
Great place to experience maritime and international ships and shipping history. A great mix of everything in a prime area of town and close to many other amenities. Good pricing for admission and family packs. Havent been there too recently but anytime I've been in the past was always a fun experience
20 December 2018 0:08
Cool atmosphere great place to have a few drinks. All the boats are pretty old be cool if they had some new ones.
11 December 2018 13:27
Great off season visit, a family is under $12. The Halifax explosion exhibit was very well done and the Titanic display was a hit with the family
29 October 2018 13:49
Great displays of shipwreck artifacts, boats, and more. The Halifax explosion section is detailed and haunting, and the Titanic exhibit is fascinating.

If you go to the museum after 5 on Tuesdays, admission was free.

Every visit to this maritime city should include a trip to this museum. And then take a stroll along the harbour front.
16 October 2018 20:05
It’s great if you really like to know everything about ships, in any sizes or made in whole history of Atlantic Ocean. If you want to visit some part of Titanic or read many things about it or watch a short movie about it and some other movies about Halifax and it’s explosion in 1917 this is the right place. And I also recommend you to visit this museum in a sunny day, the view of the little lake next to it which is connected to the athletic ocean is great specially on top of the balcony. And don’t miss the street foods next to the museum in a narrow street. Have a great experience in little lovely Halifax.
01 October 2018 10:44
We needed more time to see the museum because we went to see the 2 shows. Whale show was not so great.
25 September 2018 20:12
This Museum hosts the Titanic the explosion and the progress of the shipping industry if that's your interest that's the place to go
24 September 2018 6:33
Great visit. The Halifax Explosion was very informative, such a loss of life. Also the Titanic information and much much more.
23 September 2018 22:39
The history on display at the Maritime Museum is amazing. The hand-made ship models are works of art.
You can see the entire museum in 1 - 2 hours, leaving plenty of time to shop & sight-see. If you also watch the videos add 1 hour, they're worth the time.
21 September 2018 16:24
I'm not a museum guy at all. Went here when family was in town. Amazing place. Tons of really interesting local history. Lots of naval history about Halifax and NS in general, that I didn't know.
18 September 2018 2:24
Loved it.
Was disappointed that we didn't have enough time. Cruise ship left too early. Planning to come back.
16 September 2018 13:02
Très beau musée, qqn qui aime les bateaux, sera comblé. Pour ma part j'ai été déçu car je m'attendais qu'il y avait plus de trucs du Titanic.
