Mountain View Motel & Cottages (The)

First off Great location for a Motel, close to lots of trails in the national park. Unfortunately we did not have a good experience. The room was not clean, mold present, AC did not work only blew dust because the filter was never cleaned, terrible wifi, lights flicked uncontrollably, TV had no volume, VERY expired coffee in the rooms, no fridge / microwave, food at motel was expensive for the tasteless food you received. This Motel was 145$ + tax a night, way overpriced for what you get. I stayed at Motels that were 79.99 a night and had a way better experience.

I really don’t understand where the negative comments are from. Picture this - you came from a hike, you’re very tired and hungry, you come here and you get this decent, clean, spacious room for a motel that also happens to have a restaurant on site - set your expectations straight, this isn’t a 5 star hotel and they have outlined their amenities on the booking page of their website and third party booking sites. The room was clean, there was a TV, a functioning Wi-Fi, clean toilet, a tub, shampoo, lotion and bar soap are provided, towels (hand & face ones included) are provided too, there’s a couch and a chair, two dresser chairs and plenty of light sources in the form of lamps throughout the room. No blackout curtains but I’m not picky as long as I don’t get seen from the outside that’s fine. My husband and I appreciated the motel because we have been in worse. This is a decent motel, good location, friendly staff and most importantly they have a restaurant, since this place and the surrounding areas barely have anything. No appliances, only a TV, so prepare for that in advance. Overall, good experience.

Love our little housekeeping cottage. Nothing fancy but charming setting, comfortable bed and all the necessities. Very nice people. Dinner in the restaurant was fine with very friendly service. And the live entertainment was actually great! Would definitely recommend.

Do yourself a favour and find another property. The room comes with zero amenities. I had to search for a light when I first entered. The first light I found did not work. Outside light coming into the room at night makes sleeping difficult. The curtains on the picture window are so thin I could literally see my car through the closed curtains. The wifi was very poor. I had to go to the restaurant to see why I could not connect. The guy blamed it on my iPhone! He finally reset the router, and it worked. No coffee maker. I do not recommend this establishment.

Restaurant clean food was good

Wifi was unusable in the rooms, had to go to "restaurant" to actually get any service. Restaurant had pleasant staff but the food was pretty brutal and ridiculously overpriced. Also I suffered through the worst cup of coffee in my life here (and they still charged an arm and a leg for it). The walls are really thin so you can hear the neighbors every move. It's a shame because they have an absolutely prime location and have a lot of potential to create something special but they are wasting it.

I'm surprised this place has such bad reviews.
After a long day of driving and hiking, the restaurant food was delicious and satisfying - we had the veggie options and it was definitely edible (and tasty!) unlike some complaints about the food not being edible.
We enjoyed a cottage stay and the price was quite reasonable for what we got - cheaper than AirBnBs in the area for sure, and included living room and kitchen including oven, stove, full-sized fridge, fully stocked cabinets, mini dining table, and a couch big enough to sleep on, in addition to a standard bedroom and bathroom.
The only complaint is that the Wi-Fi is INDEED very spotty in the room and would turn off at random then come back on after a couple minutes. That being said, we basically got into our room at 8pm and left at 8am so we just ate, cleaned up, slept, got ready, and left. Wi-Fi isn't essential when you just need a place to eat and sleep while on a rural road trip. But still, the Wi-Fi needs to be fixed up.

Rented a 2 bedroom Cabin for 3 nights. Place was very small, no couch just 4 wooden chairs and a small table in the kitchen area. There were pots with grease left in them, other then that was clean. Wifi was slim to non, no cell service, no mountain veiw from the cottage. Shower was not even made for short people I am 5'4 and had to duck so i feel bad for any tall person. The wall paper was picking apart, beds were fine. Check in had to pay up front then when trying to leave they lost our slip showing we payed, luckily we kept the receipts. Bought some food for breakfast 9$ for 5 little peices of bacon, food wasn't anything fancy and was over priced. For the price the place is not worth it. Would rather tent accommodations at a campground are nicer.

Beautiful and very peaceful location!
The owner and staff were amazing and very honest. Wasn't able to try their food as we went early, but they did guide us to better options.

Internet was not good, view of the mountains on both side were excellent and restaurant had excellent food and live music in the evening

Basic motel in beautiful setting. Rooms were clean, beds were very comfortable. Mountains all around and a short drive to Cape Breton Highlands National Park attractions. Quaint community close to the ocean. Souvenir shop down the road is a must stop.

Best Mountain view from room, comfy room just need to improve wifi services other than that everything was good!

Just stopped into the restaurant, ordered garlic shrimp pasta which was spaghetti with butter (no sauce) and 5 dime-sized freezer burnt shrimp. It was the worst meal I've ever had at a restaurant, and way overpriced! Service was great though.

After a long day we were very happy to come across these cottages.

Basic motel, kept quite well and clean as there’s not too many options in this particular area.

Can’t comment on the food as I didn’t dine in.

Seeing some of the reviews here made me nervous about our stay. We were a family of 4 adults, staying for 3 nights. We absolutely loved the place, there is no cell reception but the wifi is good enough to send messages. The food is great and reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and super nice.

The rooms were decent size, heating worked well.

They have good food and great service. The rooms were clean and comfortable especially after all the hiking we did. Their location is perfect for all the hiking trails and a whale tour.

We booked a two-bedroom suite for our family. We loved the views of the room; it overlooked the golf course and your able to come out onto the green! My husband is an avid golfer, so that was a big plus. We arrived earlier than check-in time, and the front desk staff were very friendly, and accommodating. We were impressed with the size of the room and loved the two bathrooms; the tubs were great for the kids. We are already looking forward to our next stay once the golf courses open up!

We booked a room online a week ago for last night. They sent us an email confirming our room is booked.

We drive 10 hours and the place is boarded up! It's getting dark and all the motels around us were fully booked.

2 other cars came by with the same problem.

We had to spend the night in the car. We found out later that they closed up for the season.

Not impressed that we were able to book online and have the place be closed.

Bathroom could use an update. You could open windows though which is always a bonus for me. Overpriced for what it is. WiFi was TERRIBLE. Restaurant good.

Stayed one night. It was lightly foggy above the mountain tops which added to the serene atmosphere of the views.gorgeous! Nice, clean spacious room though a bit dated and two creepy crawlers on the carpet and tiny spider on the bed.such is mountain life I suppose. There was a smell when I turned in the tap in the washroom, I suppose that is due to old plumbing hookup. Quaint restaurant with gift shop. Staff were super nice. Live music was excellent! They provided ice for staying guests. Would stay again.

Good food, friendly staff, open environment, portion was a little small for fried clams and fries but good otherwise

Its pretty bad, the garlic bun are burnt burger bunds with garlic spread on them. The food is sub par and the price is unreasonable

Everything about this place is great! Their rooms are incredible, the linen is first class better than the ones I have at home. The towels are not like regular hotel towels they are incredible towels I love them. The food at the restaurant is amazing they go out of their way to make you feel at home with a friendly staff and fast service. They also have Live music! Wow what a gift shop! This is a little hidden oasis in the middle of the Cabot Trail. See you soon

I travel to cape Brenton even year and the Mountain View is the best play to stay on the Cabot trail. Clean, friendly, accommodating, and the Mountain View owner and staff is what really sets this place over the top. The Resturant is great too and only a short walk away!

I travel to Nova Scotia a trip in my bucket list and the most beautiful place on earth! I was fortunate to stay in Mountain View Cottage, the staff was so accommodating and beautiful to me and my 5 pound Yorky, they even went as far as to cook one of my favorite dish one of the nights I dined in their wonderful Restaurant and shop where I bought several items to bring back home. I highly recommend this family friendly, clean and out of the ordinary excellent customer service place. I stayed 3 weeks and this place became my second home! The only thing I regret is not staying longer. AAA+

Drove through the Cabot trail with my grandmother and stopped here for lunch. I had the haddock dinner and my gma joyfully had the lobster. Its was probably the most personal nova Scotia mixed experience we had. Not a single complaint

My family and I stayed here and we had a great experience. The rooms were nice and clean the restaurant was really good and the service was excellent everyone there was extremely nice. We are very please will definitely be back thank you all for your amazing service.

This place is a true sample of excellent hispitality. From the rooms, the Resturant, the cleaning staff, the owers and of course the wonderful lady in the front desk. They are very helpful and friendly. I Just made my reservation for this summer. It is like a home away from home!
