Residence Inn by Marriott Halifax Downtown

Our family stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn here in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The staff were pleasant, helpful and the room was very good. I’m pleased we chose this hotel for our Halifax visit.

Went on vacation in August 2022 fabulous hotel. Clean wonderful staff and just close and not to close to downtown. Lol it was good food close to alot of things to do. I recommend it to whoever is going to Halifax.

Would not recommend staying at this hotel. The pull out bed in the couch has to be the most uncomfortable thing I have ever felt. Sleeping is also not possible due to the noise levels coming from the bars outside. Was here for three nights and all three nights it was extremely loud until 3-4
In the morning. Do not waste your money staying here.

Great location for vacation. The room comes with kitchen and cookware, and a huge fridge. It is a bit noisy due to the urban activities at night, but it is very enjoyable and comfortable stay.

We stayed here back in July and we’re very disappointed with our Marriott stay. I have been a platinum member for many years and I have never stayed at such a dirty hotel. The room stunk to high heaven, the toilet had a black mouldy ring in it, no air conditioner working in the breakfast Buffay area, upon arrival to the hotel they let us know right away that there would be no cleaning of the room for the three night stay I had to call down to get the room cleaned and asked for towels in which they sent the front desk staff dressed in suits to come clean the room. Across the street is a bar I played loud music until 2 o’clock in the morning. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone!

There shouldn’t be a hotel in this location. It is extremely loud late at night. Even with earplugs, it is like the street musicians are in the room blowing their trumpets by the bed. I wish I was kidding but I am not. Soundproofing is non-existent so it would be loud regardless but when a band sets up across from your room, there is no rest. If they were more talented musicians perhaps I would be willing to forego sleep but, alas, they are not. The room is ok but the sink and tub have slow drains and the toilet doesn’t flush properly. I strongly advise staying elsewhere. It really is sufficient to prevent me from staying at Marriott properties in the future. The hotel should provide a noise advisory, their failure to do so is misrepresentation.

Fantastic hotel. Very clean and the buffet breakfast is ace. Only one BIG problem there is a pub across the road playing loud music to all hours so if a light sleeper avoid at all costs

Visited for work. Rooms are BIG and clean but could use a reno-refresh pretty soon. Included breakfast is a great feature with lots to choose from.

Best place to stay in downtown but beware with loud noise on Saturday night due to proximity with lounges and club. Good for family stay.

The location was great. Hotel very clean and well maintained. The parking at hotel was convenient. The breakfast was excellent very fresh. Would stay again.

Overall it was decent. Rooms was nice and check in went smoothly. Appreciated the upgrade a Titanium member.

The only issue we had was the breakfast. The breakfast room was insanely hot and it was so uncomfortable to spend time there. There needs to be air conditioning. Also, the breakfast service was completly understaffed and people were waiting for food to come out all the time which was noticeable. The breakfast service really needs to be addressed please.

I like this hotel and the room is nice but the noise is absolutely atrocious! It’s so loud and I can’t sleep at all. Would definitely not recommend it for anyone wanting to sleep before 1am. Awful. And the hotel is sold out and there are no other rooms available, would not return again

I am currently staying at Residence Inn Marriott, 1599 Grafton St, Halifax and my experience on day 1 of checking in is horrible. Even after confirming for ensured parking lot, many of us were told that parking is not available and will have to look out for other parking in the city. Rooms did not have enough toiletries. Absolutely underwhelming. By far the worst hotel experience ever. Unsure how this has over 4 stars. 1) the room smelled like fish when we checked in, so we had to get another room, 2) the bathtubs in here seem to have broken drain plugs, so they may not be the cleanest, 3) the cleaning staff knocked to clean our room, assuming that we were checking out (this was way before check out), 4) they charged my corporate credit card for items they shouldn’t have and charged my personal credit card for items they shouldn’t have and 5) after noting the discrepancies with the credit card charges, they were supposed to amend this and never did (after a month I’m yet to have this resolved). Good luck to this team.

Amazing place to stay for just above average price. The rooms are well appointed, clean and spacious. The entrance does not have a working automatic entry button for those who may be handicapped or who have lots of luggage to carry. The receptionist was sub par. Saw us struggling with lots of bags and did not offer to help open the door though he was standing outside smoking.only told us the button didn't work. Weird.anyway. Despite those two qualms I love this hotel and would love to stay here again!

We had a fantastically large room that looked out onto Argyle street. The location is definitely top notch and can't be beaten and the room itself was incredibly spotless, comfortable, and with more amenities that we could have imagined! The only issue was that the windows could use some soundproofing. It was a Saturday night and very busy outside. We were on the ground floor it was quite loud.

Pros- great location and amazing complimentary breakfast
-friendly staff
Cons- a few miscommunications between staff that led to an unclean room (after a long day of sightseeing there's nothing better than coming back to a freshly made bed and new towels) and a faulty shower head
-dated rooms that smelled slightly

Good location but very poor daily room cleaning service. They don't do daily room service unless you tell them in advance. Worst thing is that even if you request a service a day in advance there is no guarantee that it will happen as they have very limited staff. Morning BF is not bad

Excellent upgrades, fantastic location with underground parking. Great rooftop views! A great place to stay in thr heart if downtown. Short walk to everywhere!

I paid about 3000CAD for this Residence Inn.
But the view is like...
And the first day of breakfast was only a bagle + apple juice.today I got more things.rotten apples.and 2 yogurts for 4ppl. The breakfast menu and service are only depends on the staff on that day. The place management is not professional.

The thing that this place got going for it is the excellent location. Surrounded with restaurants and pubs and walking distance to waterfront and all the entertainment. Stayed couple of nights. It was not very comfortable because of the air conditioning situation. They have a centralized system to control the temperature which set at around 24 during the heat wave. It did nothing to beat the heat! The room felt stuffy, not a very comfortable sleep for couple of night that we stayed there. Even the front desk staff had a small fan to cool her off! Other than that it was an OK stay.

It is impossible to sleep in this hotel during the summer given that it is located across the street from several bars and restaurants with terraces, loud crowd and music all night.

The staff knows about the problem but they are unsympathetic and rude.

The hotel was ok but the breakfast was cheap the dont even give you any food i went to get some break fast and all they gave me was a cookie i was starving to death beacuse i was so hungry horrible experience

The only thing that this place got going for it is location either than that it's old the breakfast is absolutely terrible I know you will hear traffic and music till about 2: 30 3 in the morning

Haven't actually visited so I'm only reviewing based off other reviews. The place appears to have very awesome service and the standards are great as well. I also gather that they have amazing amenities and the customer experience is commendable too. It comes highly recommended

WOW. Great location. Close to everything. Friendly accommodating front desk staff. I would recommend to families that want nice and great downtown hotel in Halifax.

Location is great and centrally located downtown. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Little parking outside. Parking provided underground for Titanium member which was a plus because weather outside rainy on arrival. No pool or hottub on site which was disappointing for my wife and I, assumed this was a given for downtown hotel. Our room was spacious and clean. No Internet/smartTV just regular cable TV but WiFi works fine. A picture missing from our room and wall over bed with hangers left visible on wall. Bed quite comfortable and a great night sleep. Buffet breakfast quality can be improved, sausage was cold and the orange juice watered down too much. Coffee on the weak side. Staff should take care to improve quality of breakfast. Overall great downtown location but some room for improvement on food and hotel can use some updating which I saw from signage is planned for 2020. I would reccomend to travellers and families that want a great location downtown walking distance to pretty much everything.

Stayed here for a few nights over the holidays and it was a great experience! Very professional accommodating Staff.

Took my Husband to Halifax for our anniversary. Staff is by far the most professional I have dealt with. Loved Hot Breakfast. We will be back next year.

Great hotel, the staff were extremely friendly and efficient. They always asked what could they do for us and were very polite and helpful. We had a great room and wonderful stay.

Terrible management ever! Staffs are 5 stars though. About breakfast? You know it is free breakfast! Don’t get your hopes up

The small apartments are great if you need a kitchen while you're away but if you don't want to cook, there are a multitude of nearby restaurants in this downtown location. The price is a little high though if looking for a deal.

Our favorite place to stay in Halifax. Wonderful staff. Good clean rooms. Excellent breakfast and located very close to a fantastic pub and the convention center.

The hotel was clean and welcoming. The staff were excellent and extremely helpful. They were also very calming with Hurricane Dorian fast approaching. The location is nice and central, close to the many attractions in Halifax.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Charged me $80 for having 3 extra people in my room when I only had 2 other people stay in my room (total 3 and I told them 3 when I checked in). Said we called for 3 extra towels when we actually only called to get our toilet unplugged. The customer service was appalling. DO NOT recommend this hotel to anyone. A great hotel downtown is the Courtyard by Marriott. Great 20th Birthday.

Great hotel. Great staff. Great location. Our stay was fantastic because of the previous statements. Couldn’t have chosen a better place. Great breakfast to start your day off. Sorry we had to leave.

Enjoyed my visit to Halifax! The hotel was clean and very welcoming. The evening social hosted by the GM was a nice touch and had great snacks. It shows that the staff care and did go out of their way to make me fresh coffee. Highly recommend this hotel.

Rooms spacious, breakfast wonderful. Staff professional and courteous. Only concerns is parking; there isn’t any and limited space to even unload luggage out front.

Loved the place. Close to restaurants and everything. My only thing is
the noise in busy days in Argyle St.

Regular Marriott user as I travel frequently for work. Booked this location as it is in the heart of downtown Halifax and had a room size that fit the party I was attending with.

Check-in was OK. The person working the desk was friendly but had very few answers to my questions about Halifax and the surrounding area. Was not very helpful.

Was disappointed with the room provided as they have three rooms with a bad view that faces the roof of the buildings behind the hotel and had a small window with little light access to the rooms. Floors 3,4 & 5 all have the same view with rooms 17 and 19 on the floor. There is a third room with the small window but can't remember the number. Thought as a reward member and a frequent Marriott user I would have rec'd a room facing the street.

I sent a message on the app and it took over two hours to answer the question. If I had of called the front desk I would have had the answer, I assume, quickly. So much for using the technology.

They hotel itself was fine as it is close to the boardwalk and was clean. Breakfast was the same breakfast as any free breakfast at Marriott hotels. May stay again but would consider the Marriott or Courtyard first before I attend again.

Great location for accessing the Halifax downtown area, plus the hotel staff are very helpful, has pretty much anything needed to make one feel at home while vacationing (kitchen)

The entire hospitality crew here goes out of their way to make sure your experience is enjoyable. Everyone greets you with a smile, gives you recommendations on anything you Want to know about the city, and is genuinely helpful and friendly.

The included breakfast is delicious, and has a variety of foods, including a waffle station. Monday - Wednesday there are free mixers, which have really good food from local eateries.

The staff have left personalized touches for us, including a note from housekeeping, and cookies and notes from the front desk staff. A big thanks to everyone in staff for consistently going above and beyond!

A clean and comfortable hotel in the center of downtown within easy walking distance of most things we wanted to see and do. Breakfast choices are good, except the juices are watered down somewhat. Housekeeping service was idiosyncratic and the hotel ought to consider providing additional training.

Nice place. Great room. Lots of space in gym but need more weight lifting equipment. Only a couple benches and dumbbells up to 50lbs. Treadmill and elliptical.

Always the greatest service with Marriott! Perfectly located in the heart of downtown Halifax! Makes it easy to walk to awesome restaurants and bars. About 10min walk to the waterfront. You'll feel like a local!

Very nice hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel staff was very friendly. Located right in the heart of downtown Halifax.

Front desk service was ok. By 2000 standards it would have been considered great but there's a higher level of expectation now. The room had issues: Stains on the floor and couch cushion, broken glass in the cupboard (which my husband almost cut his lip on), and windows were not properly insulated meaning it was quite cold throughout the night and you could hear every conversation going on outside until 3am. We were on 2nd floor facing the halifax convention center. I'd still stay here again but ask for a room higher up and away from busy streets.
