Sackville Animal Hospital

I was reminded of my poor experience with this place 2 years ago, after my friend had recently mentioned she also had an unpleasant experience with this animal hospital recently. In a past experience when I had my dog, he was displaying extremely strange behaviour suddenly, such as not eating, moving, and just standing still and staring at a wall. This was completely unlike him, as he was a typically energetic and happy dog. After doing some research (a few hours prior to going to the vet) some results online hinted that perhaps he could be developing alzheimers. Although his symptoms were extremely sudden (I didn’t think that Alzheime symptoms in dogs would present so suddenly without warning) I still took him to the vet as soon as I could that day. When I got to the vet, I explained my dogs condition in great detail. After they took him in for around an hour, I was told by the vet that he had developed a neck injury and that the reason behind his actions were because his neck was a bit sore. They gave me no record of this, and gave me no reasoning as to how they think this could have occurred. Further, my dog was never in unsafe conditions where he could injure his neck to begin with, so I found it strange that they came to this conclusion as I had no idea would could have possibly caused a neck injury on my otherwise heathy and happy dog. I paid around 600$ for pain medication and testing (not that it matters) and I was told that he would feel better soon after I continued to administer some pain medication to him for a few days. Unfortunately only a short week after that, my dog only displayed worse behaviour, which was absolutely saddening and scary to see, as I wondered why the medicine hadn’t changed anything. My family and I felt that perhaps my dog had had a seizure or stroke, which could have explained his strange behaviour, however it was brushed off as a neck injury without any further explanation. We sadly had to but my dog down after this, as he had quickly gotten worse in only a few short days, and a vet at a different veterinary hospital advised us that he had indeed been suffering from a possible stroke/seizure most likely in his sleep, and that his condition was too poor to continue, and that there were no clear signs of a neck injury. I think that in this case this instance was extremely unfortunate. I hope the vets here have improved in their practice since then and I hope they do a more thorough examination when dogs do not seem to be in good conditions. Although this had happened 2 years ago, I still feel immense sadness whenever I think and wonder if my dog could have been helped more.

Been trying to call for months to book my cat in as this is where she and my other cats normally go but no one has gotten back to me. I have called, emailed and left voice messages. I will say I don’t call every day but every few days i try and call and no one picks up. Going to have no choice but to switch vets at this point since my cat is due for her vaccines. When I have gone there they have all been friendly and super helpful but at this point I have no choice but to find a new vet.

I've been taking my dogs here for about 5 years now, I don't remember her name, but the front end staff that went above and beyond for Wrecks this morning is exactly why I still travel from Cole Harbour to see you guys.

I love coming here with my cat, Smokey. He's anxious, like myself, and the staff here are so nice and compassionate. Everyone knows how expensive a vet visit can cost, but coming here, the staff's approach to billing is clear and I've never felt pressured with anything. They come in with a list of the costs and ask you what you would like to do going forward, leaving the decision up to you without any pressure or guilt behind your choice. They truly understand the cost financially and personally, as our pets are our babies and we just want what is best for them within our means. Thank you for everything you do for Smokey! I wouldn't recommend SAH to any friends, family, or coworkers. It is clear that the hospital is at max capac. (closed Saturdays, unreturned emails and phone calls). After being unable to book my 13 year old dog in for a routine issue she has (I didn't hear back at all) I withdrew my dog.

We went with another animal hospital who replied to my email within two hours and had her in two days later. Three stars is because of Dr. Tyler. I consider Dr. Tyler a very compassionate human being and he always gave excellent guidance. I appreciate all of his hard work!

I cannot say enough about the staff at Sackville animal. Every single interaction at the clinic has been phenomenal, I think its the best in Halifax hands down.

Dr Tyler is amazing, trust him completely. His partner Christina is very knowledgeable as well, very kind person. I wouldn't take my babies anywhere else!

Took our puppy for his first visit. After they called us twice to reschedule our appointment (first red flag) we went on a Saturday for a 1130 appointment. Was suppose to be 12 but rescheduled again for 1130. Front staff were with a customer, but we got no eye contact or we will be with you in a moment (second red flag) the Vet came out and asked if we were his 1130 appointment and took us into a room. He seemed to be in a hurry. He gave our puppy his needle and checked him over. We asked a few questions we got quick short answers. Told us if puppy has any reaction to the needle we would have to take him to the Emergency vet in Burnside as this was his last appointment of the day. We felt he did not have our puppies best interest in mind. He seemed to be more worried about leaving then answering our questions. Vet Tech came in trimmed his nails, which took a few minutes. As we were coming to pay our bill we noticed the Vet grabbing a bag of food and running out the door. As new puppies owners we dis not feel comfortable with the level of service.

We recently moved to the area and they came highly recommended by neighbours. I had an emergency with my kitten and fully expected to have to take him to an ER clinic. Instead, they fit me in that morning and were able to do an ultrasound on site to confirm diagnosis and treat the little guy. I was incredibly grateful that they saw us so quickly. The next 3 days, they followed up with calls to see how he was and by day 3, he was doing really well and there wasn’t a need for more follow-up. I’m so glad they were recommended as my two dogs and kitten will have exceptional care here.

We needed to have our kitty seen quickly one morning. Not having a vet, we contacted Sackville Animal Hospital. They were quick to see him that morning and were wonderful to deal with.

They even went above and beyond for our daughter, who was upset to leave her kitty for the day.

Great clinic, highly recommend!

We have been going to Sackville Animal Hospital for years now. We absolutely love the staff there, they’re so wonderful and great with our pets! Dr. Tyler is absolutely amazing and when I had to put down my 19 year old chihuahua he was so kind and compassionate

This has been my dogs' vet for the past 2 years or so and I couldn't be happier!

We are in the process of moving overseas, and their team has been incredible in terms of helping with the Export paper work, including multiple same day visits to fix small paper work mistakes and make changes on the fly.

I am so appreciative of your vets and team members. I would recommend this vet clinic to anyone!

We recently moved to Middle Sackville from out of town and were very nervous about having to change vets for our (medically) high maintenance dog. We had top notch service from our previous vet and I was worried we'd not find a similar level of care, compassion, or service elsewhere. We have now been seeing Dr. Ben Fitch at Sackville AH for the last 4 months and are very happy to have found him! Dr. Ben is great and we are so relieved to have found a vet that we can trust our dog's care to. The technicians and front desk staff are also great! Thank you to everyone at Sackville AH for being so welcoming and kind to us.

Entire visit was smooth and professional. My mother really appreciated the easy to read medication bottles for her dog. They even called a few days later to check in on Scooters status. Excellent service!

Can't say enough good about this place and ESPECIALLY the staff there. They are beyond incredible and they take care of you like you're family. Never a bad experience there!

We just switched to this vet and our first appointment was extremely clean, everyone was on time and I wasn't kept waiting at all.
The staff was lovely and pleasant and each person who treated our senior cat was gentle and kind.
They made sure to discuss each option including fees incase something was out of our budget. Very happy with the service for my pets.

I have to say this animal hospital is amazing! So caring and helpful. They went out of there way today to help me when I called because my cat was in distress.unfortunately it wasn't a happy ending but thank you Dr Kim.and her staff.you all made it just a little easier to deal with the outcome.they are professional.caring.and considerate. Dr. Tyler is just the greatest. Easy to talk with, very knowledgeable and genuinely cares for my pets. Everyone else in the clinic are great too, friendly and quick service at the front desk.
