We recently had the pleasure of staying at Sally's Brook from June 17-19. We were some of the first guests in their Eagle's Nest accommodation, made from a shipping container, with panoramic vistas that truly gave us a bird's-eye view of the beautifully forested property, St. Ann's Bay, and the mountains beyond.

We loved the little touches around the unit, like the battery-powered candles that acted as nightlights for us and the two pairs of crocs provided for footwear. The towels were impossibly soft, as were the comfy bathrobes. The ensuite bathroom was the epitome of luxury, with heated floors, a Rainshower head, and two body spray jets at various heights.

They provided everything we needed for our stay. The kitchenette featured a pull-out cooktop, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker and mini-fridge with freezer. Dishes and cutlery were provided, so we could enjoy breakfast and take advantage of the beautiful views!

The bed was very comfortable, and it was delightful to wake up with a view of St. Ann's Bay. A note to anyone who is a light sleeper - the sun will come in through the windows in the morning, so if you want to sleep in, it's a good idea to bring a sleep mask. I brought mine, and had no trouble sleeping in.

Our favourite part of the unit was the large deck with ample seating, a chiminea, firewood and dreamy views for days. Luckily, the rain held off long enough for us to make a fire and roast some marshmallows the second night we were there!

There are several packages you can book along with your accommodation, including a variety of meals for two or four people, which are delivered to the Eagle's Nest. We didn't take advantage of this option (one of us is a vegetarian with allergies, and the other a picky meatosaurus, so there really weren't any meals we could both eat). Still, we brought our own food and appreciated having the kitchenette in the room to reheat food and make hot beverages.

The Eagle's Nest is right beside the parking lot, so it's easy to access. Sleeping in a repurposed shipping container was super fun, and the heating and cooling system was easy to use and kept the unit at a comfortable temperature throughout our stay. The property also includes a variety of other accommodations, including cozy cabins or pods and glamping tents. There's a cookhouse and wash house for the units without their own kitchenettes and bathrooms. But even if you're staying in Eagle's Nest and won't need to use the communal kitchen or the wash house, the property is gorgeous, and embarking on the 5-minute uphill walk through the woods to explore the rest of Sally's Brook is highly recommended! Specifically, the wood-burning sauna, the first structure you'll come across in the woods, is worth your time. We were sent full instructions for making the fire and using the sauna before our stay.

The woods behind the units are simply beautiful, and while we didn't hike too far, we did speak to other guests who had explored and gone swimming in the brook and loved it so much they skipped the Cabot Trail the next day to enjoy another dip!

We found that Sally's Brook was perfectly positioned to allow us to enjoy attractions in Glace Bay, Sydney, and Louisburg, and the stunningly beautiful Cabot Trail is an easy drive too. If you're looking for a meal, Baddeck is only a 20-minute drive away, with several excellent restaurants. The app used by the property to provide info and for check-in was easy to use and contained a ton of helpful information for our stay.

Our GPS gave bad info- so use the directions provided by Sally's Brook if you're driving north on 312 to get to the site. If you're taking the ferry, turn left onto Black Head Road once you leave the ferry, you'll see a sign for Sally's Brook on your right.
We highly recommend Sally's Brook to anyone looking for comfortable, unique, eco-friendly accommodation in a pristine setting while visiting Cape Breton!

And don't forget - you can #BringFido - this is a #PetFriendly accommodation.

A trip to Sally's Brook from Ireland, get there late to tge find peace and quiet of a forest. And the luxury of a 5 star hotel after a little treck up the hill. I have not slept like that in years. Would I recomend it. A million times over. Really looking forward to what the next few years has in store, when they get the retreat center open fully.

This place is absolutely amazing! Great camping nature vibe but safe, cozy, and very comfortable. We were on an impromptue road trip where one of us wanted to camp and the other wanted to stay at lodges or hotels and this was the perfect hybrid! The Sauna was lovely and the cook house was well stocked and very cute. We loved our yurt style tent and enjoyed the quality time at being able to look at the stars. All of the well thought out details for this place were greatly appreciated and noticed by us. All that was missing was a wood fire hot tub says my husband lol
