Salty Rose's & the Periwinkle Café

Beautiful cafe that offers really good handcrafted coffee, sandwiches and sweets (including gluten free). It is very nicely furnished indoors and cozy and comfortable sitting outside. Because the building is further off the road, it is quieter. There is a nice shop onsite which sells products of local craftsmen including beautiful jewelry.
I will visit the place again whenever I am back on Cape Breton.

Best coffee on the Cape! We were so sad when we drove up and you were closed today (17/10) we went to the Bitzy bean that whole experience was terrible. Yr coffee and breakfast sandwiches were AAHHHMAZING. That is all. EVERYONE VISITING THE AREA. YOU MUST GO HERE.

The breakfast sandwich is the best i have had in a while. Muffin was just perfect and pickled onion was an amazing touch. So flavorful and just perfect. Veggie sandwich was good too. Must try if you are around.

Absolutely incredible destination on the Cabot trail. The room was spacious, comfortable and had all the accommodations you could want. The cafe was fantastic, fresh baked delicious goods and a scrumptious breakfast. 5 stars isn’t enough. Well done to the owners of this fantastic establishment!

Beautiful, very Charming. Horrible coffee, that's the only reason I gave it a four. That wouldn't stop me from coming back I would just grab my coffee elsewhere.

Our experience was awesome. We did the wedding ring workshop, run by Sheena. We had an amazing time with great coffee, lunch, drinks and atmosphere.

The whole business is family run and we felt like a part of the family while we were there. Sheena did such a great job working with us while we were making our rings and made us feel welcome and at ease with the process.

Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a unique experience in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere!

I LOVE this Devine little place. Excellent coffee, delectable cinnamon rolls and other fantastic treats. Plus the staff if so great. I look forward to visiting each fall. Plus there are books and homemade crafts from the area for sale. Quaint little spots to sit outside where you will be served. I just can’t get enough of it!

They are super nice! I had sore throat and they made me a hot lemon and honey even if they did not have it in the menu. Their cookies is amazing.

Food is excellent, place is beautiful. The owner really did a great job with the place. I highly recommend having coffee and eating there every morning (no exception allowed). It's a shame the place isn't opened for a beer in the evening!

Very cute and enjoyable spot. Both my husband and I enjoyed their amazing breakfast sandwiches. I often don't order brekkie sammies as I make a mean one at home but this was so tasty and fresh. They also have a shop with lovely local things for purchase. Must visit if in the area!

C’est mon coup de coeur de mon voyage niveau restaurant café! Je suis tombé en amour avec cette charmante veille bâtisse! Le sandwich déjeuné est a tombé part terre. Il avait l’air ordinaire a première vu, mais après une boucher j’étais enchanté! Que dire du latté! Il était tellement bon! Une oeuvre d’art! Merci au gens qui y travail!

Such a cute little cafe and craft spot in the Ingonish area so close to the national park along the Cabot trail. We got their drip coffee, cheddar scone and another egg bacon muffin kinda thing. We liked the scone a lot. But the real attraction is how cute the coffee shop is. The staff is really friendly too. They have petting animals across but we didn't spend time there. We got our food and coffee and we were off to hiking after fueling up. They have a large parking lot too which is great but you do see quite a few cars first thing in the morning.

The breakfast sandwich is a tiny English muffin. I wish that they had a soup, too. Desserts are good but dry. Wish that shipping cream or ice cream went with them. $15 for a sandwich and $3-6 for a drink.

Adore this spot. Cute name & aesthetic. Gluten free options including cinnamon twist muffin (pictured) and amaretti cookie - both very tasty! Coffee was also delicious and the iced coffee my friends got came in cute glasses with enviro-conscious paper straws with designs in them. There are also lights on the patio for evening vibes.

The attached shop sells local items including some from the Mi’kmaq First Nation.

As a bonus, it is next to the petting farm so you can combine your morning coffee with a quick visit to see the goats, donkeys, and other farm animals next door.

Overall, highly recommend this stop if you’re in Ingonish!

Fantastic food in a beautiful setting, with a gorgeous collection of local and handmade items to buy. This place is clearly popular with permanent residents of the area as well as brilliant for visitors like ourselves.

The food was amazing, even with a few menu items definitely being priced up for tourists. Still, the flavors and lovely decor more than made up for it! Highly recommend this stop, and hope to come back one day if we’re in the area again.

Very expensive for the quantity and quality. Bread was dry. Filling in the middle of sandwich but nothing but bread for about 1 in around. The filling had very little flavour.was it crab? Coleslaw had very little flavour as well. Stood waiting while cashier chatted with another staff. All in all, we spent a ton of money for a very unimpressive lunch. I hate when that happens. Leaves me feeling taken advantage of.

One of the best places to stop in Cape Breton. Not to be missed! Fantastic coffee and food, but also a beautiful, well-curated gift shop full of artistic and one of a kind gifts. We tell our friends visiting to make time for a stop at the Periwinkle and they are never disappointed! The rooms are also amazing if you get the chance to stay overnight.

We read about this place and it was highly recommended to us, so we were excited to make it our first stop after driving through the park. It definitely was charming, but we had high hopes for the food which were
definitely not met. Pretty pricey but very mediocre sandwiches were a real disappointment.

Very cute interior but it was very overpriced for what you get. $14 for a very mediocre turkey sandwich. Way too much. I understand everything is expensive these days but if you going to charge these high prices then you need a better product to match

We drove through Ingonish on the Cabot Trail and stopped at Periwinkle Cafe. Their lavender fog was absolutely delightful! Often the lavender is imperceptible, but this one was bright, floral, but not too overpowering. I’m in love!

The breakfast sandwich is I added prosciutto. The coffee is a great blend. Also highly recommend they rosemary & olive loaf

I want to love this place but I can't. We had 2 veggie sandwiches, fresh, taste great but wow is it overpriced.
The parking lot is where the view is and you eat looking at an empty lot. I guess captive customers keep things a float

Very nice and popular cafe and high-end gift shop. Unfortunately, we could not try the food because it was very busy when we stopped here. Parking was a problem due to volume of customers. Nice cozy interior with a few tables, and several tables and benches outside with good views. Will stop by again if in the area for a second attempt to try the menu. Definitely worth a visit.

Had the best sandwich of my life. No other sandwich will come close. The turkey was good, tomato and greens were fresh. The bread. To. Die. For. The homemade mustard and mayo are killer! Unfortunately I can no longer eat sandwiches because they will never be this good!

We've been to this café several times for their fantastic americanos and sandwiches - both which are great. On our last visit, we had some car troubles and, without hesitation, one of the owners was quick to come to our rescue. Thank you (from the family in the white minivan)! A great spot, great service, and amazing caring people - if I could I would give them 6 stars.

Good coffee and a comfortable place to review the day or plan the next one. It is closed Tuesday and Wednesday so you will need to go elsewhere for your coffee and food on those days

Possibly the best breakfast sandwich ever! I tried the lobster one and it was delicious. Coffee was good, as well as their lavender fog. Def on the pricier side though.

This sweet cafe and shop is always a destination stop when doing the Cabot Trail! Lovely staff, great food and the quality of goods in the shop is worth every cent. So much thought and care into every detail of this place. Looking forward to the next time!

Cute cafe and shop. A whole seating area is available in the back as well as a clean washroom. Lots of art work available to check out at the front of the shop. The decor was really nice in the shop and fit the overall image of the place.

Cute place, nice outdoor seating, friendly staff. Service was slow but in their defense we visited on a long weekend.

Freshmart is amazing. They carry groceries to your car and when you leave they thank you for coming. Very well managed with happy staff.

Stayed in Ingonish and went to the Periwinkle for breakfast, the meals were fabulous, I ate the Granola, my wife and son had the breakfast sandwiches. So good were the sandwiches that my son ordered two at time, one with lobster the other with prosciutto. We also had been invited to a beach party were Periwinkle supplied the Crab rolls, delishous.

I had the best coffee here in over a week. Ground right in front of you, and absolutely delicious. Finally great coffee! The cafe is also beautiful and has great character. No wonder it was busy. It topped off a great day on the Cabot Trail.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, AMAZING food. Turkey sandwich is to die for. The sweet potato apple lentil soup was thick and delicious. The cruditè was out of this world so much flavor. And the beer was hoppy! Our favorite! So glad we came. 10/10!

I have eaten their glorious food, drank their perfect coffee, had the pleasure of staying a couple nights in a room and own a Caitlyn Rose ring. So very lucky to have this gem, keep it up!

Fresh selection of baked goods, the chive and cheddar scone is delicious. The lobster breakfast sandwich was life changing, a bit pricey and worth every penny.

Very cute old building in scenic Ingonish. Artists have wonderful works on display. $14 Turkey sandwich was just okay.

Favourite place on the island hands down! The cafe has the best coffee and food on the island in my option and the best collection of art and handmade goods from local artists. Their crab sandwich is LEGENDARY. Caitlyn who is one of the owners is an incredible jeweller and curates Salty Rose’s (the shop). You can pick up everything from beautiful locally made jewelry to gorgeous coffee mugs and prints of the seaside by local artists. Sarabeth, Caitlyn’s cousin and co-owner, who runs the cafe is an industry veteran and has amazing attention to detail. Everything is spot on here and the vibe is so cute and cozy. Can’t wait to visit next time I’m in Cape Breton!

Beautiful location with great coffees and sandwiches. There is a very nice shop attached with local jewelry and art. Nice garden with picnic tables outside and an amazing view of the Ingonish coastline.

I had a wonderful experience at Salty Roses/Periwinkle Cafe. I purchased some wonderful Christmas gifts made by some fantastic local artists. The food looked wonderful and the red wine was delicious.lol. Cheers, to a great group of people, I would most certainly recommend this place to anyone.
