THERE IS MICE RUNNING AROUND THE BUILDING! I had lunch at saltys on dec 28th 2023 and there was a family of mice running around the floor!

Firstly the food was honestly mediocre at best, lacked flavour, very over priced, its like they dont even put salt tbh but the seafood was fresh.

On top of that, at the end we saw a bunch of mice running around on the floor. We told the waiter, and she said yeah its cuz the building has some issues. This was disgusting to see after eating here. The lack hygiene and the awareness of the mice made it a gross atmosphere and the bland food was not at all worth it.

I would not recommend anyone eat here, there is tons of better places in Halifax to eat.

I love the lobster and mashed potato side. This is also a nice place if you wish to have a waterfront view.

Having experienced both menus;Upstairs and Downstairs, it’s a must stop for anyone looking for a local or international culinary experience. In summer, you can dine right on the water overlooking the famous Halifax Harbour.

Went for lunch and had the best meal of my holiday in Halifax. The Greek Salad with tuna was superb.

There were annoying people talking loud on call, and I had a Bouillabaisse and Vanilla icecream for dessert

The Seafood Platter is the best and reasonably priced. The shrimp is crispy and the fish is fresh and crispy, too. Both are tasty. The portion of the calamari is kind of small but it is tasty. We missed the place when we were trying the restaurant next door the following day.

Wish I had taken a photo of my food. This was the best lobster roll I’ve ever eaten! I was traveling for work and came here to eat alone. I sat on the back deck and it was so nice and quiet! Boat tours went by. There were people out and walking by. It was just so nice and calming! Also it was pretty busy for a Wednesday at 1130! I would 10000% eat here again.

Delicious! This restaurant has 2 seating areas, the main floor is the bar and grill while the upper floor is "upstairs" and had a more sophisticated ambiance. We sat at a booth on the main floor and enjoyed the rustic decor. I ordered the seafood platter while my husband ordered a lobster linguine (from the upstairs menu, our server asked and got permission for us). Both dishes were great. The lobster linguine had a good amount of lobster meat, at least 2 claws, some tail, and more smaller pieces. The seafood platter was great. The shrimp tempura was covered in crispy noodles instead of panko. The scallops were crispy on the putside and practically melted when you ate the inside. The haddock was good but needed a touch more seasoning. The lobster was very fresh and plump. The meat was right up to the shell (instead of loose and smaller than the shell like what I get back in Toronto). I upgraded my side to a salad instead of fries but forgot to take a picture. We also ordered a dessert, the cadix, a chocolate mousse one a hazelnut chocolate crust. It was amazing. You could feel and taste the hazelnut well incorporated into the crust. The chocolate mousse was smooth and creamy. The dollops of raspberry jam (?) were a great touch and contrast to the sweetness. I would definitely come here again.

On the waterfront, Salty's has an amazing view of the water and Dartmouth shoreline.
Most of us had the halibut special but I tried a menu item which is also halibut. Butter poached halibut with lemongrass infusion, lobster risotto and veg - all excellent.

After eating at this restaurant, I was told it was called the Visitor's Trap. I guess I got cought. Very expensive, food not great. Fish and chips, that's it. No coleslaw nothing with it. Fries, MCKain's I think. Wine: 14.00$ for a glass. Not recommanded. Remember: Visitor's trap

Terrible food. This use to be one of my favorite places. Not any more.

I bragged about the calamari for years and the managed to ruin that. Over cooked and full of salt and pepper. Tough burnt salty bits. My Seafood pasta had two dead mussels and three empty shells and one scallop the slices into 3 thin slices. My wife shrimp were raw and cold in the middle.

I asked the waitress is they had new cooks. She said it is their same crew for a while.

Not the Salty's that I promoted and raved about. I will no longer bring my out of town guests there.

Go anywhere else on the waterfront. You won't be disappointed.

Great restaurant, nice interior, nice music not too loud, facing the water. Tasty aperol spritz, good seafood marmite and mussels, great vegan carot cake!

Second time there and the Lobster was as delicious as the first time.

I do wish they served the appetizers before the lobster so that we can eat both while they were still warm.

Service was great. Food is left to be desired. Ordered a seafood platter. Lobster was cold. Scallops, and Shrimp I think came from frozen foods at the grocery store. Not impressed won’t ever come back. The water front view isn’t worth bad food.

The crab cakes and the lemon creme brûlée were so incredible. I loved the location and our server was great!

I don't understand how this place has such a high rating. Is it the patio on the waterfront that people like? The food was 'ok' at best, we joked that this place was called Salty's but lacked taste and salt in their dishes. Definetely overpriced for the quality. If you have the option, head down the road to the Bicycle Thief.

Nancy was our server, and our experience wouldn't have been the same without her. Her menu knowledge, her sense of humor, and professionalism made the evening special. She was a delight to deal with!
The food was lovely, and cooked to perfection.

Decent food, nothing decadent like other fine dining. Service is efficient and staff are friendly. Ordered the seafood chowder, decent and hits the spot.

So good! Delicious seafood, waterfront seats, really good service. Our server showed up just enough and not too much.

Food, service and awesome food, price is reasonable.we had seafood chowder followed by seafood platter.

Eat: at a table next to the water. Experience: lobster roll, “market price”. Served on a croissant which is my preference. Salad filled the space on the plate, if served with fries it lacks in presentation. Expect avian visitors. Friendly service.

A friend who was not a seafood fan ordered a burger and fries. Without a doubt, the worst burger and fries I've ever seen from a restaurant.
Complete rubbish.

We had oysters, a bouillabaisse, and a whole
1 pound lobster. All tasted fresh and delicious. The lobster was perfectly cooked. The ingredients of the bouillabaisse were light and tasty. The view is also a real treat. The only downside perhaps compared to downtown restaurants is that the cuisine could be more
inventive, but that’s not what this restaurant is about: it’s about eating fresh seafood with a view over Halifax’s harbour.

The view alone is worth the visit. The freshest seafood I've ever had, and the customer.aervixw is on point for being short staffed. They did amazing. I can't wait to come back to Halifax.

Good service. Found the halibut cooked well but underseasoned and otherwise bland for one of the most expensive items on the menu.

One star for the excellent staff, another star for the location, and the last one for the scallops. We ordered calamari ($14) + seafood platter to share ($34). Both in terms of quality and quantity were not up to par with how it was priced in my opinion. The calamari was tender but small in terms of actual size (there wasn't a lot either and we only had two of us sharing this). The platter consisted of half a lobster (very disappointed by the lobster considering we're from Toronto so we don't even have high standards when it comes to lobster), 3 small scallops (despite the size, tasted very good! Melts in your mouth), one fried haddock (was ok, very skinny), three medium shrimps (decent), with two sides (potato salad and coleslaw - both were ok).
Overall, wasn't worth the $70 (husband had a beer too which he says was just ok), we paid considering we were still hungry after.

Good service. Great view of the harbour. Food was delicious. We had the crab cakes and a lobster roll. Both were tasty and served promptly.

Very happy to share their 5th birthday with them over the weekend. Great beer, great service, loved the sour cherry vodka soda, and they treated our dogs very well while sitting on the patio.

Salty's wasn't too terrible but it didn't stand out to us like I hoped it would. We came without any reservations and waited just a short while. When we got seated, the service was pretty good.

For food, we got the bacon wrapped scallops which were not worth the $15 price point in my opinion. The scallops were decent but it was honestly nothing special and there was only 5 pieces which was kind of disappointing at that price.

We also both got the lobster roll which was okay as well. The salad that comes on the side was nothing special at all, like something I can make from home. We both didn't end up finishing it. As for the lobster roll, the butter-y-ness of the croissant can sometimes overwhelm the taste of the lobster which takes away from the attention of the actual lobster taste itself but asides from that, was pretty tasty.

Portion size too small. The crab cakes were the size of carrom board coins and rest of the plate is filled with salad. So was not satisfied. Price was on the higher side but that is ok as long as the portion size is good.

Overall it was ok. Didn’t have the wine that was on the list, so we tried a different kind, no problem. Ordered some appetizers. Bacon wrapped scallops to start were good, mussels after were cold. All good though they heated them up in microwave, not sure if I’d do that? Server never asked how the food was, but did ask if we needed change when I paid. Maybe it was an off day. We may give it another try next time we are in town. Definitely a great view of the harbour and the host was very friendly and put us at an excellent table.

Many people suggested you HAVE to go to Salty's during your stay in Halifax and to get there early as there is always a wait to be seated. True, it is a busy place and with the current COVID conditions when there, seating was reduced and a minimal wait list was made for those in line. I'm not sure what the hype is all about. The lobster (and lobster roll) was definately fresh, the fish and chips were average. Overall, the food wasn't over the top delicious, the fish batter was thin and uninspiring. The chicken pasta was the most savoury item we ordered and took first place when ranking our meals. Service was East Coast friendly and quick.

Awesome experience here. I was accidentally served a lobster with eggs in it, was then brought a fresh new lobster, and got compensated on my bill! Very happy with the service here. Super quick and delicious!

Si je pouvais donner zéro étoiles je le ferais. On est allé le 1er août et nous avons eu une très mauvaise expérience. Nous venons du Québec, nous nous sommes faites vendre la réputation que c'était excellent à cet endroit, que le service est impeccable et la nourriture aussi. Malheureusement, non.
Nous commandons une entrée, précisons qu'elle sera à partager et d'apporter des assiettes supplémentaires. Elles n'ont pas été apportées, nous avons dû les demander à nouveau.
Nous avons aussi été obligés de demander des ustensiles, car même en apportant l'entrée ils n'ont pas jugé bon de nous en apporter.
Pour ce qui est du repas, deux de nous avons pris l'assiette de fruits de mers (homard, fish n ship, pétoncles et crevettes), pas de pinces pour le homard encore obligés de demander, un homard froid sans même du beurre à l'ail, pas de sauce tartare pour le poisson, 2 pétoncles et 2 petites crevettes avec une demi boule de salade de patateset une autre demi de salde de chou.franchement ça ne vaut clairement pas le 35$.
Un autre de nous a prit le saumon grillé. Même pas un filet frais de saumon c'était un morceau congelé et en plus il était loin d'être grillé mais plutôt cuit au four.
De plus, nous n'avons pas reçu les plats principaux en même temps et nous avons eu le temps de finir notre repas avant que le dernier plats arrive. D'ailleurs nous nous sommes levés pour le mentionner et nous nous sommes faites répondre que c'était en préparation. Si vous n'êtes pas capable de coordonner les temps de cuissons pour que tout arrive au même moment.
Pendant le souper personne n'est venu demander si tout était bien, on a dû se lever pour demander des remplissages pour les boissons gazeuses. Par 3 fois on demander un Pepsi et elle est même revenue avec un thé glacé après avoir confirmé avec nous un Pepsi.

À éviter, très décevant surtout avec la réputation supposément "incroyable".

Visiting from Toronto and through a friend was told about Saltys. Made a reservation for 7.30 pm and arrived at 7.20. Reservation was for 4 so had to wait until our friends arrived which was 7.45.
That’s when everything fell apart
At approx 7.50 we put our food order in and waited an hour before our appetizers showed up. Unreal.
We were told the kitchen was very busy and that was the hold up. Sad thing also, 3 appetizers came out leaving one person without there’s for another 10 mins.
Then our waitress came and said to my wife that they did not have any more lobster left for the seafood platter so can we had more fish instead. What they did add was more shrimp which my wife didn’t even eat as it was cooked properly.
Overhaul totally disappointed with the restaurant and the service. We stayed at the Marriott next door so on our next visit to Halifax will go somewhere else besides Saltys for dinner

Beautiful location to see The waterfront. Food was delicious! Definitely going back for dessert! Local favourite food!

My partner and I had an exceptional experience at this fantastic dining establishment. Service was amazing! Food and drinks came out so quick and were very tasty. Our server Katie was so personable she felt like a long time friend. Would recommend to all my friends and I can not wait to visit again! PS. Lobsters so fresh they bite!

Quiet place to spend an afternoon if you want to spend a lot of money for not amazing food or portions. Also the roof was leaking next to me and they didn't seem bothered by it

Beautiful waterfront patio with some of the freshest seafood you can find in Halifax. Good service and vibrant atmosphere.

We were in town last year for the Memorial Cup and my son wanted to try some authentic Halifax lobster. This did not disappoint. Amazing food, atmosphere, view and service. Highly recommended.

I had the fish and chips. Some of the fish was crispy and tasty but some was soggy and slimy. The fries looked and tasted as though they were left under a heat lamp. If Gordan Ramsey ate there, I am sure it would end up in the garbage.

Pub serving food. Good service from friendly waitress. Order for good and drink was taken swiftly and delivered shortly afterwards. Good quality food at reasonable prices. Good atmospheric

Attentive servers, delicious desserts. I was surprised with my dish, in the menu did not say that would have mushrooms (not taste), but came with them, so next time I will ask the waiter, not to receive a dish that have ingredients that I do not like.

Upstairs is such a lovely place for a romantic date night. Staff are very polite and attentive. The food was as attractive as it was delicious.

Great view of the Halifax Harbour. Amazing food. Great service, Angela is the best. Had the tiger shrimp with thai sauce which was delicious and you must try the calamari appetizer to start.

The quality of food is very good. The place is very nice and cozy with a great water view. Just be careful, there are 2 floors with 2 different menus. Second floor is pricy.

Highly recommend Salty's! I had the lobster chowder and was not disappointed! It was plum full of that delicious crustacean meat with a rich creamy broth. The Caesars were delicious too! Our server was an absolute darling as well.

Service was awesome. Food was okay cause i ordered burger and it didn’t had any dressing in it and I wasn’t given any dip on the side. Still, exceptional views of Atlantic and peaceful place

$16 for a cup of chowder. You read that correctly. What's in it? Gold?

Loved the Lobster chowder, wish the quantity was more, too little for the price. The lobster roll could have been more juicy, was a bit dry. I loved that they used a croissant for the lobster roll. Nice harbour front view, the service was great!

A casual place in the harbour with an incredible view of Dormuth, excellent option for lunch, dinner or just snacks and a few drinks. Ideal for tourists.

Wonderful seafood with a view- best chowder I've had, with fresh and thick pieces of seafood. I enjoyed watching the boats go by as I ate.

Seafood superb and the view is amazing. Highly recommended by the locals and I can see why. I'd say it should be your first stop on your culinary tour of halifax

I enjoyed the beer selection. I had the calamari and the scallop. Both very good.

Angela our server was amazing. I got the surf and turf which included a half lobster and 8 oz NY steak. Food was great and service was stellar. Staff was friendly on the phone as well. Would go back.

Delicious steak lobster was great but small excellent service amazing view. Pricey but not exorbitant.
