Sam's Seafood & Grill

I ordered a pulled pork sandwich on Uber eats from this place, took one bite of it then threw is out, it tasted horrible, the bread was all soggy, the meat had zero flavours whatsoever it had no sauce and it was all around the horrible, don’t recommend to anyone, your better off saving your money then ordering from here.

Loved the food! Best onion ring poutine I've had in years, fish was great and tartar sauce was deadly, will definitely be back to try more!

The 2 of us ordered the family dinner with 8 pieces of fish, yes that's EIGHT! There were also a dozen shrimp, a pile of clams, fries, coleslaw, gravy. It was just under $57. We forked over, pardon the pun another $20. For some beautiful Digby scallops. I don't eat fries, didn't have the lovely tarter sauce but yes, I tasted it. I'm on A Keto diet so I took off the batter. So did he, mostly. LOL! The fish was Huge fillets. It was delicious, ALL OF IT! Maria, our server was just a beautiful, sweet angel! My only sadness is that we only discovered THIS EXTREEMLY AFORDABLE TREASURE just before we leave to go back to Alberta! If you ANYWHERE NEAR DARTMOUTH NOVA SCOTIA, SAM'S IS THE PLACE TO GO! It should be on the province's list of THINGS TO DO IN NOVA Scotia!

Today, just after 3: 00pm my family of four stopped in for some food and right away the young blonde host told us that it was only her and one cook working at the moment so she apologized if things were a little bit slower then usual. Obviously, this isn't her fault. The whole time that we were there, this girl did not stop for one second. When we first got there, only half of the restaurant was full but during our stay, the other half quickly filled and she served every single person with a smile and and professionalism. She HAD to had been going crazy in her head but you couldn't tell. At the end when it was time to pay, again she apologized that she wasn't able to pay closer attention to us and I told her to her face that we noticed how hard she was working and that the restaurant was lucky to have her and the cook. Not only was food absolutely delicious (props to the one cook) but this young blonde host made us feel more welcomed and taken care of then other hosts that have been there more regularly. I'm sorry that I didn't get your name but I hope you see this and I hope you get a large raise!

First time and definitely not the last for sure! Good food at a reasonable price and our server was awesome!

I have been going to this restaurant for a LONG time. They rarely ever disappoint! Last time was just a pickup for takeout and the food and portions are always good. The only thing now is that I will no longer be able to take my whole family there because they took away the kids menu options and didn't even leave their spaghetti and meat sauce on the menu! Here's hoping they'll bring it back!

Sam's is very nice place that eat very good food and service. The only thing I found it was a little cold in there need to turn the heat up

Really excellent fried seafood. We had clams, scallops and fish-and-chips, and it was all good. It was reasonably priced for this type of food as well.
The service was friendly and accommodating.
The restaurant is clean and homey.
A nice relaxing place to get some of this type of comfort food!

Fish and steak are great. Fries are decent. Breaded mushrooms are not recommended, I found them to be quite soggy unfortunately.

We were seated and it took 15 mins to bring menus another 15 to bring drinks waited another 20 for order and my son used the salt on the table but there was brown flecks that came out opened up and under the cap was rusted and the salt shaker full of rust, the ketchup that is in a squeeze bottle on every table had gone bad it smelled disgusting and tasted sour I went to the front of the restaurant and the take out cashier was rude told me it was ok and to go sit and give my complaint to my server I asked if my son could have new fries and she repeated herself for me to talk to my server
The restaurant is going down hill it's filthy the lights that hang over the table are dusty full of greese and dead flies

Nothing special. I got the clams and chips and the fries were pretty average and the portion of class was fine but nothing to rave about.

I do not know about anything else on their menu but fish and chips and cole slaw are AWESOME! AND NOT PRICEY!

Just got back home from a terrible experience from Sam's Seafood & Grill. There were 4 of us in total, 2 had haddock tips, and my daughter had a turkey hot sandwich and I had a hot hamburger sandwich. First my daughters gravy was cold, the coleslaw was terrible, just vegies done up in a blender, dry no oils or nothing.the worst thing of all I found was the hot hamburger had summer savory in it. I like summer savory but not in hot hamburger sandwich.and the vegetables were totally disgusting.we have been going there for years and today was the worst ever, never again while in Dartmouth there are so many others to choose from you would think that they would be more on the customers side.

Apparently none of their cooks can count.twice now, ordered on skip, paid and when the order arrives, there are 2 pieces of fish missing.once is a mistake, twice for the exact same thing is theft.so, if you value getting something that you ordered AND paid for, avoids this place.

Terrible, ordered a seafood platter I got 4 scallops and maybe 6 clams the clama were soggy, the scallops were soggy, my fries were soggy and the fish was terrible.absolutely disgusting good $30 gone down the drain save your money go elsewhere.

I almost swallowed this piece of plastic which I found in my lasagna️. The food was also ok.

I have been to Sam's several times and everytime I have been there I could hardly walk when I left as the portions were so large. This time I ordered clams, fish and chips and although the quality and taste were great, the portions of what you get has decreased compared to what they used to be. I am only rating it a 4 for two reasons, one being the decrease in portion size and when we were there it seemed like there was only one waitress. Our waitress was great but was doing several jobs including busing her own tables which took her away from waiting on customers. To be fair, I do realize things are just starting to get back to normal and maybe they just don't have the staff on hand like they used to so I this is not a slight against Sam's in any way. This is just something that I observed while we were there. I would still recommend Sam's and will continue to be a customer as I do enjoy their food.

//Update// I decided to give Sam's a try for breakfast which I had not done before. I ordered a Greek omelette and I was not disappointed.

Given the quality of food, portion size and service I received on this visit, I am updating my rating to a 5 star. Thank you for your prompt service and delicious food. I will be back

We had take out at Sam tonight. So very disappointing to say the least. I have frequent Sam quite often, but no more. It is the only restaurant that I am aware where you paid $6 for 6 clams. I order the 1pc fish and clams with fries, for 13.95. And my husband had 1 pc fish and chips for $7.95.

When I went to eat the take out meal, I discovered that I had a total of 6 clams, which there was little or no batter on. The clams were so tough that you could not eat them without choking on them. So I would have been better off to order just the 1 pc fish and chips and saved myself $6.

I don't usually write reviews, but I have to say I am just too peeved to let this one slide. Trust me Sam your clams are not worth a buck a piece. Will I ever recommend this restaurant to anyone again.not likely, nor will I be back. Maybe if you ask some of the sea gulls for a good review you might get it, as they appear to have enjoyed your meal.

Updated review April 1,2021. So. I've been here many times over the years. Food is always pretty good, if a little greasy. Service is usually pretty good. But.today! The server was very nice, brought us out decent food, no complaints. However, half way through the meal, it sounded like a very irate customer had come through the doors and started screaming obscenities at the top of his lungs. We didn't know whether to run or stick around, but it was mid-afternoon and there was only one other couple dining, so we stayed in our seat. Upon closer listen it was the OWNER yelling about having to do dishes for seven hours when he owned the place and complaining about how he was treated (not sure if he meant by staff or customers). He dropped a minimum of a dozen very loud "f-bombs" during this tirade. I was mortified and when the server came by our table I asked her if everything was okay back there. She says "oh it's just Sam having a tantrum". As if it's a normal thing to subject employees and customers to such actions. Never again will I go back through those doors and when I was relaying this story to a couple people afterwards, they were not surprised, saying they had heard terrible things about the owner and his treatment of staff for many years. I am sorry I ever gave them any business. This behaviour would qualify as verbal and emotional abuse in any home or business, I cannot believe he gets away with that!

I eat here all the time. Never dissapointed. Food is great, reasonably priced and large portions. Service is always great and the food comes out fast. Has a home cooked feel. Love Sams!

Ordered seafood chowder. But very little seafood in it. Four small clams and tinny shrimp. Thats it. Will not order that again.

Love this place for a quick family diner/truck stop type feeling. Simple but various choices with many daily specials for good pub food. Friendly service and nice sport memorabilia collection

The quality went way down hill the last few years. Use to be my favorite spot. Would crave the poutine! Fish was excellent. I just got a poutine and Fish and it will be the last time i do.

Always passed by but never stopped until I saw an advertisement for lasagna and striploil outside 2 weeks ago. I've been there 3 times in the last 2 weeks now. Great food each time i've ordered something different. Still haven't had the lasagna or striploin though: (

This was the first time for trying out their fish and chips and it will be the last. The fish was barely done and the batter was definitely not. It was watery goo on the inside and the outside batter was so greasy we had to use many napkins trying to soak it up. The only way to eat it was to open up the batter and pick out the fish. Fries were heavy and greasy as well. About the only thing I enjoyed was the coleslaw. Sorry, but will not be returning.

Hadn't been there for several years. A friend suggested we try it again and we were pleasantly surprised! Great food, great prices and portions and wonderful service!

I went twice on both of my roadtrips to N. S.a few years ago. The 2nd time I returned was because of the great food, great Fish & Chips platter, great Shrimps. The Fried Calamares was a tad overcooked the last time I went but they were great the time before that. I suppose I was just unlucky that 2nd time round. I definitely recomnend the Fish & Chips, to anyone who asks.

I thought I need to order 2 peice fish and chips well the size of the fish were fantastic and the gravy was just perfect and the tarter sauce just Out of the park thanks sam

Waitress asked what we want to drink i said chocolate milk. She says I don't know if we have any do you want to get something else? I asked if she could check 1st before I decide. Then I tried to order seafood platter, but got cut off by waitress to say there's no clams, so I ordered scallop platter with sweet potato fries. The plate arrived and the deep fried battered scallops were laying on a soggy peice of garlic toast and were luke warm and only half were cooked. Coleslaw tasted about a week old and the sauce for the fries was disgusting. The only thing edible thing on the plate were the previously frozen sweet potato fries. Don't recommend it if you like good seafood: (

Speedy as hell service. Never have to wait more than 10 min between placing order to receiving said order. Food is always excellent. Their chicken ceaser wraps (ask for extra sauce!) and the clams are to die for! The servers are always very friendly. As cliche as this may sound - they treat you like you are family.

We love dining at Sams, we were loyal customers of Swiss Chalet, until we happened to go into Sams after seeing the specials outside. We love the atmosphere, the servers, and the food is to die for, considering the cost. We are now loyal customers of Sams, thank you Sams, you have the best seafood chowder I have ever tasted and we have travelled, a lot in our lives. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone

This is one of the first restaurant I went to when visiting from Ontario. A friend took me to lunch after shopping. Now that I'm living here I've been there often. Always greeted with a smile and have never had a complaint about service or food.

Great local restaurant still doing it for as long as I can remember. Located in the centre of Dartmouth. Probably best place for haddock tips meal. Nine Locks beers

The service is great. The food is your typical pub/grill style food, nothing fancy but great if you're feeling deep fried food or want an alternative to a hamburger joint. The price is fair to. For a family of four, it's comparable to that hamburger place you would normally go to.
My biggest complaint, it's a little tight. Not much room between tables and for some reason the lighting in the washroom is very dim.

First time trying Sam's, had haddock tips & fries with a nine locks beer. Affordable & great service in a timely manner! Will be back

Found the Fish & Chips very greasy, basically from fryer basket directly to serving plate without allowing to drip. Some of the batter wasn't fully cooked on the inside, still doughy.

I typically don't like rice pudding but Sam's has THE best rice pudding hands down! I always get it when I'm there. A must try!

We used to go to Sam's a few times a month. It went way downhill in the last few years. The owner is crazy and is always yelling at staff and customers, he needs a lesson in good customer service. Will never go back.

Very affordable, excellent quality and yummy foods. The service is perfect and the staff are super friendly and professional. A must try if you find yourself around Dartmouth or even the Halifax Regional Municipality area.

Real bacon, they cut their own potatoes, quality eggs, a great burger, and even better prices.

Won't go back to smitty's or Coras, both have bad bacon that is thin and cheap, and what seems like cheap microwavable hashbrowns.

Great food and great service also the cheepest place arround to go out as a family good job sams for being such a great place to go
