Seaside Shanty Restaurant

Had the lobster roll and it was delicious. Had fries with it which were great too. Staff is super friendly and it's a beautiful location. Thumbs up!

Amazing quality and portion difference. Service for our take out order was still friendly and great. Flavourful fresh fish and home cut fries! Some cutlery, napkins, and ketchup would have been handy as we took this a town away to picnic lunch, but we survived just fine and are now eager to return for fish and chips again during one of our many stays in Chester.

Friendly polite staff. Had lobster rolls and wedges, the wedges were greasy but better flavour than the lobster rolls, which had none. Tiny portions but average prices compared to the 2 other seafood restaurants we ate at on this trip. The pops were a lot of ice and little pop. Nice outside eating area and view though.

Beautiful patio view, food was good. We had a great server, and all the other serves seemed great as well. Very cheerful and attentive.

Food was excellent with very generous portions; I had flank steak, which was cooked to medium at chef’s recommendation and was delicious! Great view of the water from the deck. Service was absolutely wonderful - cheerful, friendly banter, great recommendations, and we felt very well looked after. Would highly recommend!

A party of six, we all had main courses and some desserts. My own fish and chips was perfectly cooked, tasty with generous fries and cole slaw. Other dishes included three fish sandwich daily specials, hamburger, and trout. All were really good. Desserts included apples crisps and one mousse. The mousse was rather small. Service from Laura was excellent. Overall the food and experience merited five stars - one star deducted as all mains were served on cold plates. Seaside Shanty was well worth the visit.

Beautiful little restaurant with a very warm, friendly, and homely vibe. The food was tasty and had very generous portion. The waitresses were very polite and nice. They even gave us some tips on the area around as we were tourist from Toronto. Highly recommend

First time after renovation and new owner. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful with our orders. The staff was friendly, and eager. The price point was expected. The food was served at a reasonable time. The food was excellent and on par for the style of restaurant. Would recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful view of the south shore and delicious food.

We had the fried chicken sandwich and it was delectable! Huge portions and freshly made, will be going back ASAP. A+

We visited the Seaside Shanty for the first time this past Saturday. It's a very nice spot on the water. We ordered the seafood chowder. I've had a lot of seafood chowders over the years and this one ranked low. There was hardly a piece of seafood in either bowl, which was small for the price. It lacked seafood and flavor, it was a nice thick chowder but mostly carrots and potatoes. Honestly, not one piece of lobster, shrimp and one half piece of a scallop, the other bowl didn't have any either. Service was very friendly but it took 50 mins for 2 bowls of chowder.

My fiancé and I were on our way back to Halifax and stopped in for lunch. What a beautiful out of the way restaurant over looking the wharf. She had a smoked salmon sandwich which happened to be the special of the day. It was Delicious. I had the seafood po’boy and it was Amazing! Best one I’ve had outside of Louisiana. The service was also Amazing. Must come back soon.

We ate lunch here. The whole place has been renovated in the last year and is just lovely. Service was impeccable! I had the crispy fish cakes which were a special and they were really lovely. My husband had the corn chowder which he always loved in the past. It was fine but didn’t get the thumbs up that the old version got. We both had a lovely lemon dessert. I also saw the serving of fish and chips and the lobster roll and they looked amazing. We will be back for sure

Our meal was unbelievably good! I can’t believe it is almost rated the same as Subway in Chester.

We were on a bit of a time crunch and the I’m not sure if service is always that quick or if they accommodated for us but it was greatly appreciated.

The lobster roll was packed of lobster and the bun was not overly buttered so you could really enjoy the lobster. The po Bo was delicious and was my favourite of the two. We also really enjoyed the fish cake special.

We sat outside and got to enjoy views of the water. I highly recommend coming here!

Went there to eat however new owners and they changed the menu which I was not happy with.

A year ago I wrote a review raving about the seafood chowder. But that was under the former owners. The new owners spent a fortune renovating the place, but have ignored the chowder. It consists mostly of potato, carrots and mussels. At $22 per bowl, add more seafood please. We were so disappointed because we eagerly awaited the reopening. So now it's another cute tourist trap that doesn't get that a seafood restaurant has to have good chowder. The new "Shanty" does not.

My friends and I went for lunch on Saturday. The food was delicious, staff were friendly and provided great service. We very much enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere. We are already planning our next visit.

Stellar. I had never visited the previous iteration but the refreshed seaside shanty checks all the boxes. A nice mix of classic Nova Scotian fare like lobster rolls and fish and chips with dishes like tuna tartar and scallop crudo. Great addition to Chester!

We struggled to get a reservation but went anyway and had no problem getting a table at 7: 30 on a Saturday night. New owners explained why. Food was excellent and portions were perfect. If you want a big meal order the fish and chips. I loved the clams and Ceviche. Best part was the strawberry desert and local beer selection. We will be back. They also have a couple of dog tables.

As usual, the food was delicious, though the menu was small. Your new renovation is lovely & the addition of your large waterfront deck was a welcome surprise. Well done!

Amazing food, scenery and staff. We had most items on the menu and several desserts. You have to eat here!

Had a lovely meal last night. Very relaxed vibe, food excellent, views over the sea stunning.

Amazing (daily) cocktail, best burger, best fries, and best view of the summer (& at a lower price point than many).

First time back at the Sea Shanty after it was renovated by new owners. The meal wa fantastic. Fried oysters followed by the seafood chowder. All on a beautiful Saturday evening on the patio overlooking Chester Basin.
