What an amazing walk back in time. The place is absolutely beautiful, the staff are so kind and knowledgeable and there are lots of washrooms as well for your convenience. Thoroughly enjoyed our day there. Lots of seats to look out over the river, and watch the geese too.

It is a beautiful place, an old town that remains over time, that transports you to that time, of the arrival of the French and English to Nova Scotia.

A great visit at a piece of history preserved for future generations. Many exhibits of typical businesses of the day, including a working blacksmith, a chair works, school house, church, a phone exchange, apothecary, soap and candle making, spinning and weaving demonstrations, a general store, and a working vintage photo studio where they will take an ambrotype in vintage garb with antique equipment and processes. A fun and educational experience. There is a gift shop that sells items made on site.

The most amazing time, we visited Baskerville in BC and loved it, this was a very similar but bigger experience!

J'ai adoré me retrouver dans un village d'époque ou tout était d'époque! Merci aux personnages qui font toute la différence)

We took our 12 & 13 year old grandchildren and we all enjoyed our day there. All of the staff were so friendly and informative and made us all feel special. Plenty of parking, water & cooling stations and clean modern bathrooms. A gift shop and restaurant on site. We would highly recommend a visit and we plan on returning soon.

This was an absolute surprise. The interaction of the staff was spot on. We totally enjoyed the window search! The best part was the blacksmith, so knowledgeable and the coat hook he made us was fantastic! Would visit again!

Old fashioned Christmas was very sweet. Victorian tea was a hit and Christmas craft show was outstanding. Wide variety.

Went to the Christmas events and Sherbrooke always impressed. Everyone is always so friendly and the set up is great.

I took a trip here during my vacation stay at Liscombe Lodge, and I had an amazing experience. It was my first time visiting here, so the experience might turn out different for you. But in my experience, it was great. 10/10, an experience I recommend.

I can't say enough about this museum, which is actually an original part of Sherbrooke. None of the buildings were moved here, they were all restored where they originally stood. Some are closed to the public as they are privately owned. You really feel like you are stepping back in time when you enter this living history museum. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are in costume and act as if they are living in the era depicted in the museum. Feel free to chat with them in the streets or behind the counters in their shops. We spent a few hours here as there are so many artifacts to see in each location. Highly highly recommended!

I have decided to rewrite my review. I again visited Sherbrooke Village today. It's been a little while and I thought I would up date and replace my last review. I have been here before with other friends. But this time the wife came with me, so she could experience the village.
It was a nice day weather wise which made things even better. The staff were all wonderful. The cast played the roles well and made the experience, much more realistic. A down side is that a couple of the buildings were closed for lack of staff. Although we had one staff member open up and show us one of the closed buildings that I wanted to show the wife. This was above and beyond what I would expect. That's one of the reasons why I loved this place the first time. People care about this place and the folks who visit. That means a lot to me.
We had to cut down the time we were spending at each building since we were running low on time. It's amazing how fast time can go when speaking with folks about interesting things.
I brought the wife home a nice hand made wooden spoon crafted in the village, the last visit. That along with a rose water cream that she loved. Wouldn't you know that today, she bought two more types of wooden spoons and another large jar of the rose water cream. I guess I did good the first time.
And I saved the best for last. We had lunch in the Tea Room. The ladies were wonderful in all aspects, and should be commended for playing the roles, while providing a wonderful lunch experience. The food was the best lunch I've had the whole time in the last week visiting the province. I had a simple lunch of a grilled cheese sandwich on whole grain bread, with a glass of home made lemonade. It was excellent for a guy enjoys the simple things. I topped it off with a ice cream cookie sandwich. As I said, the best lunch, in a really long while.
Thank you to the whole staff from the welcome center, to the building personal, and all supporting members, including the lady on the horse guiding the escaped donkey back to his home, for a truly great day, yet again. Once again, a highlight of our vacation.

Absolutely loved it. So many different buildings to go through, all staffed with very knowledgeable and talented individuals demonstrating how things were done/made back in the 1800s such as pottery, printing, woodturning, blacksmith etc. Buildings are authentic and actually in their original locations. I was very impressed with the village, and how friendly and informative everyone was. The Canada Day parade was really fun too, and I loved how it went right through the village! We look forward to returning!

The historical buildings were closed as the season has not yet started, but we were still able to walk the village and enjoy the animals. We seen sheep, chickens, peacocks, wild turkey and one very large lazy bunny rabbit.

We had a great tour of the historic village. Our guide was quite knowledgeable about the history. The blacksmith, carpenter, printer and the furniture maker were working and explained their crafts and how they maintain the authenticity of this village. Unfortunately a number of buildings were closed and many of their planned activities for their 50th anniversary are postponed until next year. If their Christmas lighting ceremony is going ahead, we'll be back.

Very nice place to visit. While due to Covid you cannot see all buildings inside, the personal tours make more than up for that. It is very nice to see how well they preserve the buildings. And mind was blown by fact that the courthouse was used as recent as 2000 and the jail as recent as 1968 and the fact one house is still occupied by a family who lived here forever. Certainly worth a stop when in the area or the drive up. They also do classes with the blacksmith and are planning classes with the wood worker/turner (once covid is over).

Great place to visit. They have managed to preserve their village as though you're stepping back in time!

I've been coming for over forty years. I just plain like it there, and always make the sawmill pilgrimage. I make time to stroll along the banks of the St. Mary's, it's a beautiful river, named for the original French fort that preceded Sherbrooke. My kids like it, too, especially since they introduced the option of being costumed in period clothing on site. I saw whole families in costume this year, it adds to the atmosphere. If you like an easy but beautiful little hike, head up from the sawmill to the lake.

Having come here for forty years, I can tell you it's getting a little worn around the edges, they have properties they could make more or better use of (new permanent attractions are unheard of), and I fear there's a maintenance debt accruing that will soon become infeasible. Different years yield different vintages, as the availability of quality tradespeople to staff the signature attractions rises and falls.

But for me, it will always be a magical place to relax on a summer's day and consider how beautiful and distinct so many parts of Guysborough are, while marveling at the ingenuity and strength of our forebears.

This AMAZING place, brought back many memories from my early years, the more than friendly and knowledgeable volunteers and staff educated us in many aspects of what life was like back in the day. Lunch at the "Sherbrooke Hotel" was absolutely delicious. I am eagerly awaiting my next visit when the "Village" is decorated and lit up for Christmas. Put "Sherbrooke Village" on your, "must visit" list when visiting Nova Scotia. If you’re a Maritimer and never been, put it on your bucket list!

Very friendly staff buildings are starting to look a little tired and a lot of them were closed to the public. Enjoyed what was there.

Great place to visit in the rain or sunshine! Met some lovely people hosting in the open houses!

Friendly welcoming staff.
We arrived with our 2 labradoodles and everyone welcomed us in.
It's the original Sherbrooke that has been preserved as a museum.
Did not seem touristy at all. Such a small fee to enter.
Don't leave without going for lunch at the hotel and try the gingerbread cake with lemon sauce.delicious.
Thankyou everyone for one of our favourite stops across Canada!

We had our very first visit to Sherbrooke Village last week and it was a great experience—better than we'd expected! It was really cool to see how things were done hundreds of years ago—and some that are still done that way today! The blacksmith shop is still in operation, as well as the printing shop, to name a couple. We LOVED looking through the pharmacy and all of the buildings were beautiful and so well-maintained. Staff was amazing and we were even allowed to bring our dog through the grounds and inside each building! He loved chasing the chickens haha

Tip: STUDENTS - ask for the student discount. It's not posted but a very generous discount:)

Great to come back to your place of birth. Although the Frances Scott house is not yet complete, since my last visit in 2006. It was still an enjoyable time. It truly would have been nice to see it fully restored.

I loved Sherbrooke! The original buildings have not been moved. What you see, was actually the way it was. Take a step back in time.
11 July 2019 22:59
We went in July, and this place is incredible. The restored buildings weren't moved here - an old community existed here and started becoming a living museum while families still lived in the town. A family still to this day lives in some property in the village. Such a cool experience!

Learn about printing presses, pottery, blacksmithing, turning sheep wool into a skein of yarn, and MORE!
