Brought a friend here for 3 appts. Had a new person training at admissions when we went, the trainee was awesome as was her trainer! Thank you for making our visit a great one! I stopped in the cafeteria here too. I found it a nice quiet place. Not much of a selection of foods really but, what I did find and purchase was very good

I received excellent care from the nurses in Ambulatory Care. The receptionist was friendly and professional, and the nurses caring, patient, and knowledgeable. Their thoughtfulness was enormously appreciated. Thank you.

My 1.5 year old child waited 7 hours in the ER with a broken wrist in two places. We left after the 7 hours and went to another hospital for care. She was very uncomfortable and crying in pain. Not once did anyone check to see if she needed anything for pain. I understand they were extremely busy but I cannot understand how a child does not take any precedence. There were other adult patients that were going in ahead of her that were being seen for tick and insect bites. This is unacceptable.

The staff was nice but the wait time was so slow. Something that should have taken 5 minutes to diagnose took hours upon hours. Our healthcare system is in shambles. Perhaps that’s why Trudeau is now pushing so hard to kill the vulnerable instead of encouraging and protecting them in their struggles—something that would have been unthinkable in more “primitive” times.

After waiting almost 17 hours in the ER in Halifax with a serious medical situation, we drove to Bridgewater, were seen within 90 minutes and admitted for a surgery with 6 days of recovery. A totally positive experience at every level: the Covid greeters, the ER staff, the surgery staff, the floor nurses - even the food! You order from a menu, it's taken over the phone by a helpful worker, made up and delivered amazingly fast. I had a flat bread pizza that was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Same for the made from scratch tomato soup and chicken broth. The nurses were very short staffed at times but in spite of the intense pressure it put them under they were calm and cheerful. Yes, it meant that sometimes things were a little delayed but when you see nurses literally running in the halls just to do routine things, you can at least meet them half way and be patient.

Triage nurse, Donnie, had a bitter disposition. Just recliner chairs for the sick, no bell given to ring for nurse. Doctor had no bedside manner and all Staff at the nurses station, in the middle of the night would not acknowledge me standing there, even though they knew I needed something. They were just chatting about life outside of work. It was pure punishment. My Dad's words. This hospital needs to be reigned in.

Nurses did not respect the patients need for rest, especially in the late hours. There was lots of provocative language being used, flirting, unnecessary hollering, etc.
They all thought they were in some kind of Grey’s Anatomy joke.

Most of them sat around the desk, or in the halls making a fool out of themselves and wasting the time and needs of very sick patients.

They would talk negatively about previous patients, laughing about their unexpected deaths and mistakes that led too injury.

The nurses would also talk negatively about patients waiting/staying in the ER, giving them dirty looks, gossiping, rolling their eyes, and not taking care of them, when needed.

I have also never seen so much disrespect being portrayed towards the elderly who are severely sick and injured.gross!

Most nurses were disgustingly rude and impatient. The nursing students were much more pleasant and provocative, hard-workers.

Why is this hospital being expanded? There are no doctors as it is and wait times are atrocious. Makes no sense to waste taxpayers money on useless infrastructure when there will be no improvements to wait times and care to patients in general
15 October 2022 1:28
Staff were polite and friendly. 811 had told me to go to the hospital immediately and my file was sent there. While waiting an hour for triage/ check in they spelled my first and last name incorrectly. Could not access my 811 transfer, failed to take note of my multiple drug allergies. Then overheard another patient who had been waiting to see a Dr for 12hrs for a sprained/broken ankle. I waited for 6 hrs before I was told it would be atleast another 7 hrs wait. Don't waist your time and risk your health, go to Halifax or Dartmouth

If you have a history iof mental illness this hspt looks at your history and then tells you everything is great. I had a bad bang on my left temple from my car trunk and shortly after a fall off my ladder. My headaches are and neck pains are very hard to deal with. Did nothing but told me I was fine.

This is our local hospital and it is a good place to go for emergencies, testing for various illnesses, and admission for treatment of illness and surgery.

Smaller than the hospitals in Halifax does not impact patient care in any way other than the staff is not as harried as their city counterparts.

South Shore Regional Hospital is clean, bright, and well-maintained. The wait times are minimal.except there can sometimes be an extended wait in the emergency department.

We give SSRH five stars for their exemplary staff and overall performance in meeting the health needs of Lunenburg County and visitors to the area.

DONT GO TO THIS EMERGENCY ROOM!
we waited 5+ hrs and no one took us or the other people waiting for emergency care, some whom were passing out after waiting there for 9+ hrs. Tried asking staff how long it would be to wait and they would just say they don’t know and than get back to talking to other staff members who also weren’t helping

The ER staff are amazing and very professional. They take you seriously, answer your questions, explain procedures, and really try to help as best as they can. That being said, bring a bottle of water, a good book, and perhaps a cushion and a snack because waiting times are long. 8 hours or more are not uncommon.: - (
06 March 2022 23:18
I have to say that I was absolutely impressed with the staff. From the security guards to the triage nurse to the doctor.they were so busy today, but never did I feel rushed. Never reviewed a hospital before, but when good things happen, they must be shared
23 September 2021 0:44
Very understaffed ER. I've had to wait 3 hours, 8 hours and 17 hours before to be seen. One patient that had been there 20 hours needing stitches ended up asking for the needle and thread to sow himself up before he was deemed worth being seen. Many of the older patients sound like frequent visitors which may be lessened if there were more family doctors to see them faster outside of the ER. I have been on a waiting list for over 5 years for a family doctor. The healthcare system is either under funded or too inefficient.
08 August 2021 16:03
Drop a like if you waited at the emerg for 8 hours to be seen (post-traige) and then just left to take your chances with fate.
If you don't come by ambulance, bring a tent and camping gear. Nothing about wait times was mentioned at any point during the service provision.
Pro tip: if you ever doubted that the province has a doctors shortage, visit the emerg and have all your doubts erased!
Would not recommend but as it is critical service, well, at least now you know.

I recently had surgery at this hospital. The staff were outstanding and the facility immaculate. Too many to name but the surgeon Dr. Kevin Johnson deserves a special mention for his professionalism and care. Also, a big thanks to Paul in pre-op and the nurses in the recovery room for their care and attention. Thank you so ver much.

I wish I could give this place no stars! Got into the hospital at 11am with my friend. It's now 230pm and we are still waiting! We have to work tonight at 10pm in lockport. If they dont hurry up I will leave and tell everyone coming in to not go cause of the wait time! Unacceptable!
20 April 2021 7:03
I would call it the South Shore Regional Spa and Resort! Kudos to all the wonderful nurses who always have a smile on their face and a good sense of humour. They have a tough job and do it with such grace. I would definitely book another stay! (but not right away!)

I am currently a patient at the Bridgewater hospital and all I can say is that everyone that works here goes way above and beyond to care for their patients, they bend over backwards to be super kind, friendly and patient, I have been here for app 5 days and to be honest, I feel like they are spoiling me, it is top notch medical services, also the staff are more like family than co workers, way to go Bridgewater Hospital:)
03 September 2020 2:54
I was admitted by ambulance and was treated so ignorantly by the emergency staff. I was judged, ignored and spoken to like I was an inconvenience. I would rather have been anywhere but there. It was definitely an upsetting experience and one that has left me hesitant to ever seek help at that hospital in the future.
21 August 2020 6:17
If I could give less than 1 star I would. I understand it's a pandemic. I understand wave 2 could be coming.but how dare you take away visiting rights to family's! Limiting a visit to 1 hour per day? How do you expect patients to get better when they are alone all day getting less than perfect care? It's bad enough none of the grandkids can visit out grandfather but now my grandmother and mom can only visit for 1 hour per day? Do you think a virus won't spread if they are there under 60 min? I am scared to think what's going to happen now that mom and nana can't be there to care for bampa. I know the staff won't care for him the way he needs! If that was me in the hospital I would be getting the hell out of that hospital!
04 August 2020 22:12
The nurses and doctors here are awesome! They work so hard and try to give everyone the care they need! So thank you all!
01 August 2020 14:58
The Er in this Hospital is beyond help. I can say this with fact and experience. I have had to go to this place way to many times over the last
10 years. Its more like a lottery then a ER these days.
07 July 2020 16:22
Went in for severe stomach pain after having a gallbladder surgery. The wait was quite long but they were amazing both the doctors and nurses. They found out exactly what the issue was and it will be resolved this week. Amazing caring staff. They really went above and beyond. Thank you to all that helped me there.
16 April 2020 21:52
The only hospital in all of Nova Scotia that actually listened to me and helped me. A couple of months later I am medicated and discharged, living in a new town and back to my old self

I arrived at South Shore Regional Hospital at noon on Christmas Day 2019. Taken in immediately and assessment was done upon arrival. In emergency department for 2 nights. First was Dr. Harris. After the second night I was moved to acute care on the 4th floor. Dr. Edwards was doing assessments on me but my main care was done by. Dr. Joseph McNally. Dr. McNally was a very caring and professional doctor who seemed very concerned about my situation. Very friendly and left me feeling very optimistic about my situation. I can't thank Dr. McNally enough for helping me return to the best I can be considering my condition. Thank you so much to all the doctors and nurses at South Shore Regional. The nurses Emma in ER. Dawn. 4th floor. Merissa on 4th floor. Far too many to remember. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I was discharged on New Year's day afternoon.

Had surgery here. Staff was excellent. Was originally disappointed we were sent this far but it was great care and all staff we dealt with were fantastic. Very happy with my care:)

If you have-to-go there'' it's usually open if you don't come in a. Ambulance expect some serious wait times.

My 90 year old mother brought by ambulance to Emerg after a bad fall, from passing out, hitting head and shoulder. Assessed and then put in very small waiting room for 4 hours before being put in exam room. Then another hour wait to be seen by Doctor. The Doctor was excellent. Discharged by 1230. Nothing to eat while waiting as the food machines were broke. Only one bathroom in Emerg which was disgusting. Due to the hurricane going there were multiple people in
emerg to get there methadone. The whole emergency room situation in Nova Scotia needs to be re done. The same thing has been gojg on for years. Triage is a joke. There needs to be a nurse practitioner to order blood work, xrays and Ct scans and have these all done before Dr sees patient So that everything.moves faster and better. The nurses were pleasant but there seemed to be only a couple of them doing any work and the otheres were gathered around the desk chatting and not really doing anything. The doctors were really busy. Does any supervisors ever montior these departments. The work ethic has changed so much.

Been stuck in this hospital since wednesday october 2th. Worst hospital experiance ever.
Firstly: continously brings me food to tease me when im on a ALL LIQUID DIET.
Secondly: spent my first 3 nights in here out on a bed in a hall way with strangers watching me while i slept
Third: my nurces have no sweet idea whats going on. All i know is i require surgery. HAVENT SEEN MY AD OR ANY DR IN 3 OR 4 DAMN DAYS.
12 August 2019 9:24
I hate to even rate it with the 1 star!
Most (not all, as there are a few great ones) of the nurses are nasty, rude, and like to sit behind the desk making fun of people in the waiting room!
They never triage you properly as there are a few charge nurses who like to pull power trips!
The hospital itself is beyond FILTHY and dirty, chairs are repaired with of all things. DUCT TAPE!
Dr. Sibley was rude and treated me BEYOND unfairly! They didn`t even know what one of my illnesses was, said they never even heard of it!
I`d rather be left to die then go to this excuse of a hospital again!
The behavior of SOME of the nurses and doctors is absolutely APPALLING!

I am a retired rn and over the years I have worked at several hospitals. The level of uncaring rude nurses I have come across is staggering. I fully understand that health care workers are over worked with poor staffing. This does not excuse them. Of course there is always the exception. There were some professional acting nurses but that was not the norm. ER is a joke. Poorly run with total disregard for cleanliness. People with viruses and infection using one bathroom that was cleaned once a shift. Visitors using the same bathroom too. Most of the Drs were professional and didnt let the stress affect their job. Others were snappy and dismissive. Most people don’t come to the hospital unless they really have ie they are at the end of their rope. To have to wait11 hours while writhing in pain is unacceptable. They walk past you making sure not make eye contact. Like your not there. As a health professional I’m ashamed to say I would avoid this hospital like the plague. Signed.disappointed and very concerned.

If you have elderly loved ones take them to another hospital. They will not be given a chance here.
08 April 2019 3:45
Today I had surgery at the SSRH in Bridgewater. I chose this hospital over the HRM hospitals because of the long wait time in Halifax to get to see a surgeon and time to actually be operated on. From my pre op assessment last week to today's surgery, I was treated in a manner I thought no longer existed in our rush rush world. Total respect shown, friendly and what seemed to be a well organized and professional facility that really cares about you. I could not have asked for more. Thank you SSRH.

Waiting times to register is redicules they rather drink coffee and chat to other staff members then doing their job and getting people registered quicker rather then waiting so long and very unfriendly registering staff
05 January 2019 3:33
On November 1st I went to emergency with my 3 month old daughter when registering I told the lady my daughter just had cataract surgery on September 11 and just had a contact put in October 18 she now had a fever and her eye was swelling red and goopy we were told to wait in the waiting room and we would be seen shortly, after waiting 3 hours and no one coming to see my daughter and my daughters eye at this point was swollen shut so I rang the emergency buzzer and i told the nurse my daughters eye is swollen shut can someone see her? Should i take her contact out? And the nurse told us to wait in a hallway for a few minutes for the dr. While waiting in this hallway I watched your nurses watching the camera to the emergency room making fun of a guy who got fed up waiting so long he left then came back and nurses were joking to each other "haha now your on the bottom of the list haha" finally a dr comes to see my daughter and tells me he knows nothing about contacts so he didnt know what to do.he called iwk and eye dr there saying to get the contact out but the dr wouldn't help me or my husband get it out because he knew nothing about it, so me and my husband are clearly upset and my daughter is screaming bloody murder as we try to pry her eye open to get this contact out.finally we get it out and go to the iwk she ended up with having a minor infection which was lucky because she could have gone blind.why did this even happen? Why weren't we told when registering no one there would know what to do so instead of waiting just suggest we go to iwk? Not to mention how dirty it was in there and how rude your nurses are! I will never return to that slum of a hospital I wouldn't take my dog there!

I was admitted to this hospital November 5,2018. I had had two strokes, and my blood pressure was really high. Upon being admitted I was taken to have test to determine exactly what was going on this was all within a very short time of being Admitted.the emergency staff were excellent and taking care of me I fell completely at ease.the entire staff they made me feel important. I spent a few days in emerge they had me closer than so they could keep an eye on me. I was then taken to the fourth floor in a private room again close to the nurses station. I was given the best care and I am full of gratitude for the wonderful team that worked on me thank you.

When I was taken ill very suddenly on the road to Bridgewater last weekend I received quick competent care immediately. The paramedics were very kind and professional in their treatment and got me to the hospital without delay. Everyone in the emergency department treated me with compassion and respect during what was a humiliating experience. I received excellent care from the doctors and nurses and would like to thank everyone for being there for me at this difficult time.

There should be clinical exam after every one year or more for young physicians, so that they could improve their clinical skills more under supervision of experienced physicians having experience of 15 plus or more.i am not here to discourage any body but physicians are more responsible for dealing with lives of people. Being nurse, I felt worst abdominal exam done by emergency physician along with that when I asked him about my BMP test, I got shocked to hear that this is not part of emergency routine.how about if person comes with similar symptoms of AKI and without doing BMP, How they can be so sure that this is just Normal back pain. I mean to say there are 50%of chances having AKI in young patients like me but still 50%probability is there that it can be. After all physicians are also human beings, they can commit mistakes but still they should improve their skills as much as they can. I am not saying randomly, Being nurse, I have had no of experiences where lot of people lost their lives because of improper diagnosis or in other condition their condition got more worst due to improper diagnoses. I do have lot of respect for physicians, keep doing good work but with more awareness, one mistake can lead to loosing somebody’s precious life.
