Terrible terrible practice.
I’ve had 4 doctors come and go from here since I managed to snag a family doctor about 7 years ago. Out of those 4, there was one that cared about my health, Emily McInnes. That was the last time I felt safe/cared for.
When I tore my Achilles tendon I called to get an appointment and they said they didn’t need to see me, the same as when I broke my foot. (Probably some underlying issues I won’t be getting diagnosed there).
The second last doctor didn’t listen to me at all and requested to see my scars because she was interested. My current doctor put me on a psychoactive drug despite my hesitancy and my insistence that I have health coverage for a proper assessment by a psychiatrist. The drug ruined my life. I called the office for a same day appointment as I was extremely depressed and my life was falling apart. The receptionist tried to tell me I couldn’t have an appointment due to the fact only my family doctor can prescribe me a controlled substance. This is ridiculous because their own policy is that prescriptions will not be filled over the phone. I told her multiple times I didn’t want a controlled substance or any meds and I needed an appointment to talk to a doctor. She could not get this through her thick head so her supervisor, Karen, had to take the call. Wonderful. I’m going to get to speak to a doctor, thanks for allowing me to access health care. Doctor calls and I explain my symptoms and that I just want to know if I can stop taking this medication. She tells me I must be special for experiencing these symptoms. Twice she says this. A quick google search will tell you the opposite. She also told me I could stop taking the medication altogether because it has a short half life. It does not. Luckily I know better as I have experience with these things as well as a neuroscience degree. I was treated like an idiot for being concerned for my health. Something I am very reluctant to do because of the state of our system and my past grievances with this place. Wasted time.
I made an appointment to talk to my family doctor on the phone.unbeknownst to me my doctor went on vacation and they cancelled the appointment when trying to switch it to another doctor…I called as I received a text saying my appointment had been cancelled. The receptionist argued with me that it was not cancelled, even though I had a text saying it was. They called me back saying it was their error… big surprise. So my phone appointment was to be with the doctor filling in.
The day of my appointment comes and no one calls. I call again. I am told by this receptionist that my file says the doctor tried to call me and there was no answer. This is not true, I had no missed calls and was waiting for this due to all the trouble, it was very important to me. The receptionist argued with me again. I told her to get her supervisor immediately. She comes back on the phone and tells me it was changed to an in person appointment at a different time. No supervisor. At this point I’m enraged. I tell her to get her supervisor to call me immediately and the receptionist hangs up on me. I was working in the area so I decided to go to the office, where the same receptionist ignored me as usual and as she does to everyone that comes in the door. Finally I get Karen. The cut of her jib is clear. She does not care. I explain every wrong doing and how all I want is to speak to my doctor and how nothing should be this hard. No humanity. No humility.

I get to speak to a doctor, I get a referral. Two weeks later karen calls me and tells me it’s a 12+ month wait. I ask if there is any other psychiatrists we could try and she says no, they’re all the same. This is far from the truth. There is a program now that fast tracks these visits that Karen clearly does not care to find out about, or the doctors at this practice.

Don’t let these people ruin your health and sanity! You will have better luck going to a walk in and doing your own research and seeking private care where available. I wouldn’t take my cat here willingly.
