The Appleseed Modern Diner

Great local restaurant. We went on an exceptionally busy day (curling tournament next door at the YMCA) and the food was still fast and good, and the staff patient/kind.

This is now among our favorite restaurants in New Glasgow, and it feels great to support local entrepreneurs who in turn purchase locally.

Large portions, and reasonable prices. The chicken tenders and deep-fried pickles were great! The upgrade to Greek salad was a good choice.

Ordered the BIG BREAKFAST. Menu says BIG Servings, it's one piece of ham and a flat sausage round, smaller than a MacDonald Breakfast patty. The bacon was 2 slices of cold, hard bacon that's been sitting in a warming tray. Asked for better bacon, it was 3 slices this time of the same panned bacon, but heated up in the microwave. Was also tasteless. Coffee was super weak and thin, I thought it was tea. Tasted like a suggestion of coffee with milk and sugar. Did love the mugs. Restaurant was so cold that one staff member was wearing a hoodie while serving. Hash browns and eggs were good. Staff were nice. Also 50$+ for 2 breakfast, 2 drinks and tip.

I finally got on the road early enough such that by the time I hit New Glassgow it was still breakfast time. I looked for a diner on Google and found the apple seed modern diner. Quite the find. I don't think I would have found it without Google. Unfortunately, it's a little hidden off the highway. I stopped in for breakfast. Tasty perfectly fried eggs. A delicious biscuit on the side. The potatoes aren't too big. Crispy versus size ratio is nice and they have a little spice which makes me unique. Great food! Great prices. Unfortunately the Mrs. Pac-Man wasn't working but there's a whole arcade next door!

What I love about this place. It's large, friendly, comfortable and actually not heart attack prices compared to what most of the other greedy businesses are attacking the average person for. A person that perhaps wants to socialize and treat themselves and others to. It's refreshing to find places like this when we're in such a negative time in this sad world today.

A smile goes a long way! Felt like our server was on a Mario-Kart when she was checking on orders, could barely see her on the way by she was going so fast… and it wasn’t busy!

Had the fish cakes, felt like they could have had a little more crisp on both sides. My first negative review of a place but it should be mentioned so people have a great experience even if it is cloudy outside.

I only tipped 15%. Hope she has a better day tomorrow

Enjoyed the food, the waitress seemed like she didn't enjoy her job. Her affect was flat, no smiling. I would go back though.

Great place to stop for a bite to eat. Reuben was quite the tasty sandwich and you get fries for days. You won't leave this place hungry. Will tackle dessert next time I visit.

Super tasty comfort food with friendly service in a cute, retro, diner. I had a local beer and a delicious peanut butter burger alongside a big pile of tasty fries. My wife had an old fashioned milkshake (with the extra in a metal cup) and she loved her burger too. There were lots of other things on the menu that we look forward to trying!

Very cool place. Service was prompt and acceptable. Serving staff did seem at odds with each other. Not sure what that was about. Kitchen staff however was doing great. $3.99 for meh coffee wasn't too appealing. Shoulda had the Caesar!

I had The Appleseed Reuben with fries. It was amazing. Very large serving with lots of delicious fries and the Reuben was perfect. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. We will definitely be back. Gave only four stars for atmosphere because we were the only ones there. I don't understand why this place isn't rocking it all day one.

Would give 10 stars if I could. Overall great experience. It was busy but we were still seated quickly and the food came surprisingly quick as well. Staff was prompt and polite.
I ordered the donair grilled cheese and the soup of the day was curry corn chowder which I wasn't sure about but it was amazing.

Beyond our Expectations! We were travelling through the area and were craving a burger. My fiancé found the Appleseed Modern Diner online and we were intrigued by the menu. We were not disappointed! She had the Appleseed Burger and I had the Peanut Butter Burger. Both were unbelievable, and they have possibly the best shoestring fries I’ve ever had. Perfectly crisp, but not overdone.
Service was very fast and friendly and the prices were certainly reasonable. We’ll be back!

Stumbled across the place by chance, excellent food, efficient, friendly and extremely hard working staff, will definitely revisit when I'm back in Canada.

Great service and the portions were just amazing. Breakfast hash was a tad salty, but otherwise both dishes were right on the money.

The Appleseed never disapoints. Good food, I tried the chicken strips, nice booths, reasonable prices, great menu selections, clean washroom and friendly service. You can't ask for more than that.

By far the best fish and chips i have had in Nova Scotia. Staff are verry friendly and nice. Nice environment and atmosphere.

The donair grilled cheese was awesome. Lots of meat and very good flavor. Donair sauce was tasty. Fries were thin cut and good. Wife had the Thanksgiving on a bun and Tomato soup and loved it. Would definitely return!

Le burger appleseed est très bon, les assiettes sont très garnies et le personnel est sympathique. Une bonne adresse!

My grandchild had his birthday party here. There is a game center next door. The kids loved that, and all found something to eat in the diner. Poutine topped with donair was the choice of 3 of them.

Great service, truly family friendly. Awesome shakes and sundaes! Local drinks on tap, fresh bakery bread and buns.
Great road trip stop. We stopped by for lunch after a weekend on the north store and stopped by the arcade next door which was a great time!

Very good food, super friendly and nice staff. Interior looks cool too. Highly recommended for good beer and basic food.

Great food, and amazing service! Awesome for a family dinner, so good with kids! Portions are generous, and prices are very fair! Creative takes on traditional dishes! So many choices from drinks, to dinner to dessert! Highly recommend, and will be back!

This is a must stop while in New Glasgow! Great hot tasty food and wonderful service, clean as a whistle inside with a great atmosphere.

Great brunch! A lot of food for the cost, and delicious! Service was friendly and fast! We didn't have much time and we were easily accommodated.

We chose this place based on others reviews and after 5 minutes in the door I said I would write one too. If you don’t want to read all of this, the food, selection, quality, service, speed, taste, friendliness and customizability are all top notch.

The atmosphere is inviting and it was so nice to walk in to such a spacious, bright, clean space. I had a London fog made with almond milk, specialized at our servers recommendation, which was wonderful and warming.

The menu is varied and interesting, and boasts locally made artisan breads. Our server was happy to give us her recommendations from each section of the menu which couldn’t have been more helpful as we were having a hard time deciding. We decided to share the beet salad, and Reuben with Mt. Thom Poutine on the side. They let you customize everything here!

We rolled out with peanut butter pie and lots of leftovers to go. Many thanks to our server for her friendliness and help!

What a gem, nice range of diner food, cheaper than “jungle jim’s “. And the food was friggin awesome and it’s locally owned too so support your local diner and eat here you won’t be disappointed

Good food, good drinks, good atmosphere, friendly staff, one of my favourite spots in the area!

Excellent service. Food was great! Ordered the spicy peanut butter burger and a small order of the flapjacks with bacon (2 pancakes, 3 slices of bacon). The burger patty was really good but not spicy, still delicious though. You could definitely taste the peanut butter but it wasn't overpowering. I ordered hash browns instead of fries and I'm so glad I did. The flapjacks were very fluffy and the bacon was perfectly cooked.

First time there, smoked meat and fries excellent, another time I would like mustard instead of sauce on sandwic

Good size portions and fresh ingredients were very impressive for our first visit. We both decided on the big breakfast and neither were disappointed.
The fresh biscuit option and a fluffy, tender pancake were just small parts of a great plate.
Definitely will be coming back to try the burgers and shakes.

Interesting food and quick, friendly service. Very large servings, especially of regular fries. 100% recommend sweet potato fries and the Cajun chicken burger. Great quality chicken too!
