Visited here for my husband's birthday. The food was AMAZING! Service was great and our server even brought out a special birthday dessert. Looking forward to our next visit. The Old Fashioned do not disappoint!

Hands down the best restaurant experience I have ever had! Staff were incredibly friendly and food and drinks were fantastic!

Had to visit this restaurant as they had Oysters Rockefeller on the menu - and it did not disappoint. The scallops were delicious as well, but the beef cheeks were nothing to write home about. The service was fantastic and the candles on the dessert for a birthday were a nice gesture. It was an aesthetically pleasing interior and the atmosphere was great.

Was a bit quiet while we were there. Sunday in the winter. The server was a blast. The food was really good.

Visited the Five Social, which is below the Five Fisherman, but a more casual restaurant. Food was very good, but the service unfortunately was not the best as they were understaffed and everything took a long time.

Had seafood chowder which is ok. Unfortunately I was not very hungry so was not able to try to lobster dinner.

This place was INCREDIBLE. I ordered the lobster dish and it did not disappoint. My husband ordered steak with the chimichurri sauce and that was also impeccably made. Even the vegetables on the side were delicious, which is very rare! Drinks were well made and served quickly. Staff was very friendly and fun, beautiful restaurant with great ambiance. 10/10 would highly recommend. This place was also on extensive lists of top restaurants in halifax. If you're in halifax, you MUST eat here.

Went for dinner on a Monday night - the atmosphere was great and there were a lot of people there but we were able to get a reservation for 8. While my food was fine (oysters and mussels) my colleagues food was disappointing and came very slow. Might have been an off night but would definitely recommend some menu improvements!

Very expensive, some side dishes are missing from what was mentioned in the menu. Buy food taste ok

This was our second dinner restaurant experience after McKelvie's. The restaurant is lavish and dare I say swanky. My party were seated in a private kind of room.

The restaurant was highly recommended by the staff at our hotel The Muir.

Here we ordered the local oysters, seafood chowder, Nova Scotian crab cakes, The Five Fish Experience, Mussels Mariniere, The lobster dinner and the Shrimp & Sausage Tagliatelle.

All the dishes were tasty, fresh and delightful. All except the seafood chowder. While the taste was good, the temperature was on the cool side. So it was a bit off putting.

The service was friendly and efficient all around.

I had a starter and a main and both were excellent. The restaurant has a storied history and it was a great place for supper.

Steak and Lobster was fantastic. Highly recommend the peppercorn gravy on top! I was traveling for work and ate alone at the bar - atmosphere was perfect!
I did have to park in a nearby garage, but the walk was short.

We had a lovely experience. Everything we ordered was delicious and the had a seperate vegan and vegetarian menu with a reasonable amount of choices. We had chili garlic shrimp, pan seared scallops, umami rice with tofu, and a sqash or pumpkin ravioli. My only complaint is the serving size of ravioli, though they were delicious, you get about 7 ravioli. The cocktails were beautiful and tasty. We also ordered a cheese board for dessert which was a perfect sharing option over coffee.

The atmosphere was beautiful with lovely lighting and decor. Everything was reasonably hushed which was also nice. It's an expensive experience, but it's an experience.

Staff were friendly and very accommodating to my special requests (gluten free pescatarian) and offered variations to the menu that were delicious. Had scallops with risotto instead of the chorizo and it was delicious.

Cocktails at this place were great, and I really enjoyed the appetizers. Would definitely come back just for those two.

The atmosphere was beyond our expectations but everything else fell flat. The food was mediocre and our service was terrible. We waited 2 hours for our main course, and our server basically abandoned us after we ordered. Skip this place and go somewhere that isn't overrated.

We stopped in for Burger Week without a reservation and thankfully we were able to be seated at the bar upstairs. The atmosphere is wonderful, the staff friendly and inviting, great service. We ordered the Wagyu burger and truffle fries, and wow so delicious. The Five Fisherman is a must try if your looking for good food and great atmosphere and I'd suggest making a reservation if you want to guarantee being seated.

We had a great time mid-week at The Five Fishermen. The food and drinks were delicious and they had lots of variety for options but there were a couple of items that they didn't have available that day. The host and wait service was top-notch but the music was a bit louder for the space. The prices matched the quality you're getting and I will definitely be back.

I lived in Halifax in the early 2000s and when I came back for a trip I very much looked forward to coming back to the Five Fishermen. It's obviously changed quite a bit and went upscale, but I was quite disappointed. I expected to be blown away by seafood and I got adequate seafood. No complaints on the food, but it's definitely not the way it used to be, with quantity and quality overwhelming you. The service was extremely disappointing as I waited 15 minutes AFTER being seated to see the server and get our water. We had a reservation, and especially when the establishment is upscale, this never happens.

Everything was slower than it should have been.

I would always recommend this restaurant in the past. There's just better options in Halifax now.

Had an absolutely lovely birthday dinner here. The service we received from Skylar was top notch. The drinks from the bar were delicious, the food was amazing and the staff gave me a little something extra for my birthday celebration (steak tartare, yum!). Overall fantastic experience with amazing food and service!

AMAZING vegan options! I know… A vegan probably doesn’t belong here…. But, with a carnivorous mate, you get dragged to all kinds of places. Thank you for having the most interesting and delicious options that I have had in years. So damn delicious and I ate way too much! That Smoked Mushroom Tartar is ridiculous!
Our server, Laura, was an absolute doll and made us feel like VIPs. The manager who was working was also super-friendly.

This place is amazing! I had one of the best meals of my life here! Pricey.but worth it! Highly recommend.

Sooo disappointed. We went for burger night- the boys had burgers- which were awesome. I ordered the seafood plate which had shrimp, lobster, scallops, halibut. The first bite of lobster was not good. My 2nd bite of scallop was not good. It all had a "fishy" taste (yes. I know it's fish) and was obviously not fresh. Our waitress was absolutely LOVELY and took it back for me and I ordered something else. She also did a little damage control and brought out a great selection of desserts at no charge- which was delicious! She even sent us home with some extra).

Nice atmosphere, good tuna tartare, great lobster Thermidor. Tried my friend's five fish experience and preferred this but I wanted a baked, buttery, cheesy lobster experience.

Brillant loved it, though the lights are in a romantic setting, even if u r not.
Knowledgeable ostrei staff. The barman was indeed very accommodating, we would go back there, rather than press gang, the greeting is far more genuine.

Pretty overhyped from the online reviews. The food was decent, however, the service was atrocious which was very apparent from previous reviews. From not bringing out water, to not bringing out plates, to having to remind the waiter to bring out our drinks after 30+ minutes.it was an honest shame. The Bicycle Thief was 2x more busy and yet we were served faster, the service was better and the food was significantly more tasty.

The place is really pretentious. The food wasn’t on par with what they were trying to sell. It seemed like we caught them on a quiet Sunday night where the staff wanted to go home (we were the only two people) We ordered two cocktails which tasted almost the same. The service also felt pretty rushed and the waiter was not completely sure of all the ingredients that was on the plate being served. A little underwhelming in my humble opinion for the price on the menu

Cool atmosphere, was sat right away. 5 social is clean n super friendly hosts. Decent selection of wine. Ordered the scallops which were delish, however they were quite cold. Also ordered a second glass of wine which the bartender poured me straight out of an open bottle. First one came in carafe and was a lot larger, not to mention using the same glass and an open bottle that wasn’t my own is totally unsanitary, especially during these times. Over all not bad.

Delicious food and pleasant atmosphere. Also loved learning some of the history and the ghost stories!

We had Carly as our server and she was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The food was incredible, the ambiance was perfect for what we were looking for. She found out it was our honeymoon and went above and beyond to make us feel special. She made the experience for us. I would love to be seated in her section again

Warning; please read before eating here. Was looking forward to the 5 fishermen as it had been about 15 years since last there.
It was one of the worst meals I've had in a while.
Started with warm, stale Keith's Draft which I sent back. The crab cakes were like something Captain Highliner would produce in a box. My wife scallops were placed on a bed of uncooked frozen hash browns. I'm not joking.
The signature 5 fishermen plate had off salmon, dry lobster, and risotto that obviously came out of a microwave bag.
On to dessert; we did the sample tray, no flavour, obviously sitting a long time.
The Irish coffees were horrible.

*** To add to the culinary misery, there was loud rap music playing! THIS IS NOT A JOKE! EVERY second song was loud rap music! They spoke of ambiance! It was BRUTAL!

EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE PLEASE.

Had a most enjoyable evening with delicious food and fantastic local wine and cocktails. Laura and Nick both provided exceptional service and we will definitely be back when we visit Halifax next! The Five fishes platter with the risotto was absolutely amazing! Thank you for a great dining experience.

We went for the first time last week and introduced our friends visiting from Manitoba to the menu. Our server Laura did a fantastic job of ensuring we had a memorable evening! From the crab croquettes, coquille st Jacques, 5 fishermen experience, stuffed pork chop to dessert, everything was fabulous. Thank you Laura for going above & beyond! We have another set of visitors arriving in 3 weeks and we’ll be sure to bring them here!

Best mixologist- Nick was amazing! Amazing food and service. Crab croquettes and lamb lollipop was to die for. 5 fishermen experience was amazing though the lobster tail was a tab bit small.

Pretty good. I guess they just reopened and they were short staff so the service wasn't great but they ended up covering our drinks and sending us home with 3 desserts given the bad service. So depsite the service being poor I think it was just a staffing situation. Food was good.

So disappointed…. Believe us we will never recommend this restaurant to anyone, in fact I wouldn’t even go if I had a coupon for it

Really sexist website that is more insulting than anything. Staff is forced to wear almost nothing, food is way overpriced for the atmosphere.
Used to be a premier restaurant in the city, it's now a dive.

Very tasty food! The bone marrow was different and then we did the bone marrow shots which was interesting. Oysters were fresh and the shrimps were super tasty. I had the halibut which was really nice! My husband’s burger was decent too and the other meal we had was the salmon for which the sauce was a bit on the sweet side, but otherwise tasty.

Enjoyed a honeymoon meal here and the experience was wonderful.

Everything we ate was delicious. You won’t be dissatisfied. Staff were attentive and friendly and made sure our experience with them was a great one.

I hope to one day return for future occasions!

We just stopped in for a couple quick drinks, and appetizers. Food was excellent, service was great and had a wicked view.

We came from Toronto and what a disappointment! Too fancy and the food tested so bad and my plate was horrible greasy. It supposed to be spectacular because is sea city but nope. Never come back.

Although the seafood is fresh, but they are way too salty: the lobster (half), the shrimps and fish, the only one that is right is scallop. They are so salty that you can't taste the freshness of the foods.

Great restaurant, wonderful food, great atmosphere and suburb service. Great place for celebration and night out. Really great location

Delicious food and great service. Neil is an awesome bartender! I had the salmon and it was wonderful.

Prior to extensive renovations at the Five Fisherman I would have gladly given the establishment a 6 out of 5 star rating (yes that good!).

The upper level of the building was enchanting with colourful stained glass windows and pillars that stretched upward into an endless ceiling.
The style was rich with history and had a distinct Victorian essence.
The service was nothing short of luxurious. Every table was served as though the guests were the most important persons in the restaurant. And of course the food was spectacular.

The renovations to the Five Fishermen have robbed the restaurant of every element that made it exceptional (except the food which remains superb).

Without a reservation we waited nearly 1 hour for a table and even those with reservations waited 15-30 minutes to be seated.

I witnessed one couple storm out of the building immediately after being shown to their table.
They had waited 20 minutes to be seated despite having made a reservation.
During the time that the couple waited, staff members assured them that they were setting their table and it wouldn't be long.the table setting included NO table cloth, silverware wrapped in a napkin and cheap drink coasters. A 1 minute setup.

After the upset guests walked out the door I watched as several members of staff stood at inside the entrance and mocked them.

For future reference, I would advise these members of staff to try cleaning and setting empty tables instead of standing around in a group, mocking upset customers in front of other patiently waiting guests.

The atmosphere of the restaurant no longer feels luxurious nor special. It is an average dining experience with average service that can be had at a generic chain restaurant for a fraction of the price.

While the food remains exceptional, the meal is only one component of the overall experience which has been negatively impacted by renovations and the staff working this particular night.

What was once a luxurious experience is now an overpriced disappointment. I regret going last night. I would have preferred to remember the Five Fishermen restaurant for the establishment that it used to be.

It used to be favorite restaurant in Halifax where you could get a tremedous amount of high quality perfectly served and cooked seafood for a very decent price. It's the first time I got to come back since the renovations and I could not have been more deceived. The whole place lost it's appeal, trading an old building feel with tons of history, from being a morgue to a school to a top rated restaurant while keeping it's character to a very dry "modern looking" money sucking cold experience overpriced food.
The waiter carefully threaded his words to offer choices when they actually were extra (As "Do you want onion or mushroom with the steak? " in a downward tone. Ends up it's a 8$ extra mushroom plate, not a courtesy about personal taste as whether one you prefer" And "It's not written but you can choose to have the lobster rissoto instead of asparagus" sounds like a choice not an upgrade. It should have been more "You can substitute" Their apetizer seafood board is also downright a ripoff with basically a tiny bit of not much and poorly prepared. The only thing that was amazing were the scallops. Overall the food quality went down, is more expensive and the building itself lost it's charm from a couple years ago. With hindsight I'm going to write it off my list of places to go in Halifax.

I came here with my wife for our 10th anniversary and was not disappointed. I ordered the surf and turf and my wife ordered a chicken dish and they were both very tasty. The staff was very attentive and courteous and made sure that our dining experience was the best it could have been. The decor was lovely and inviting, very clean and pleasant to look at. Our only complaint if any, is that it's a little over priced for what you get, with that said, we left feeling satisfied with the overall experience. Will be back again for sure.

The decor inside is lovely and the patio is a nice place to sit with a drink and people watch. My server wasn't particularly knowledgeable but she was friendly and attentive. When someone at my table really disliked their dish, it was removed from the bill without any insistence. They offer vegetarian and vegan menus, though most of the dishes are played-down versions of the regular menu. Most of the food was poorly cooked, which is a shame given the expensive proteins and produce used. Portions were small, despite high prices. The overall level of care on the plates indicated a tourist trap. I doubt I'll go back.

Lots of shine and snazz, food was ok to good, service decent. Tables too close together, ubiquitous chill-out music irritating. The separation between the lower floor/outside deck and the upper floor -these are qualitatively distinct catering entities - was not immediately obvious leading to a certain amount of confusion when the menus were compared and ultimately to much shuffling and rearranging. Overall somewhat above average, with what appeared to be a varied wine list.

Probably the best prepared seafood meal I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Oysters Rockefeller were perfectly done, the seafood chowder was amazing. The place has a great vice and the wait staff were on point.

Dined in this restaurant Labor Day weekend Sunday, in addition to the intolerant and disrespectful staff at the front desk, the food was also tasteless and void of any culinary components. Horrible, if not a complete joke. The restaurant favorite 'five fish' was presented in a messy pile of seafood thrown on top of each other. The carb part of it not only looks like somebody's vomit, it was also saltier than ocean water, and for the 45 dollar appetizer 'SEAFOOD SMÖRGÅSBORD', it was served with ketchup, tabasco and soy sauce for flavors.what a Frankenstein this is. Granted people don't expect too much from this town, but for the price they charge diners deserve better experience, from its humans to its food. Unfortunately for ~160 dollars we had to throw away in this place, you bet a ghastly review is due and they are gonna for sure get it. You really don't have to ruin it for people who actually care to pay a visit to your town.

We reserved for 18: 15 and it was a good thing since 2 couples in front of us at the door didnt get in since they didnt have a reservation. But as soon as we sat down, we felt rushed. Food arrived on the table five minutes after we ordered it. It is surprising since it is a fancey restaurant, not a fast food. Our waitress gave us options that were not on the menu and did not let us know that there was a surcharge for it so those were great surprises on the check. Two of us ordered the "five fish" dish and my friends portion of salmon was ridiculously small, she said she could barely taste it. Very disapointing. You don't come out of a restaurant with a bill over a 100$ under an hour. We do not recommand it.

This place and the service the waiters provide is hands down the best in the city of Halifax. To make a long story short we were treated like GOLD. Our waiter, Joel, was the very best. If I opened a restaurant I'd beg him to come work for me, he is that good. Very attentive and accommodating even though we were high rate customers. I could go on all night but I won't, I will say try the Five Fish dish. Its amazingly good. And dont look for parking, they have valet who will park your car for you. We spent nearly an hour looking for parking and found a space before we knew there was valet service. The Five Fishermen restaurant get a High Five from this Newfoundlander. A job done well is a job well done.

Had some delicious lobster and arctic char with my wife. The decor was classy and modern in the same time, service was great and got some great recommendations for drinks to go with our food.

The food was great and service was very good. I was a little disappointed in the limited dessert menu though. Not a chocolate lover's delight. Otherwise 5 stars.

I love this restaurant. Best oysters Rockefeller I've ever had. Pasta plate was loaded with fresh seafood. Desert was very good too. We had a Nova Scotia white wine which was excellent. I can't wait to return. Highly recommended for a nice evening dinner.

The Five Fishermen. My spouse being from the Portuguese Island of Terceira, does understand the values of a good sea food restaurant. First the service. We had planned to spend the Canada day weekend in Halifax for a year. It was fantastic. We therefore placed a reservation for the Friday 1 month in advance with a special for Portuguese white wine. Its was delivered! Indicative that we were going to have a great experience. And it was. From the entrance in the restaurant to the service, meals and deserts it was nothing short but top notch. While waiting for our places, we sat down at the bar where an excellent waiter gave us drinks that we left at his discretion to serve us. Thanks mon ami it was really good and really set the mood for the rest of the evening! I strongly recommend The Five Fishermen. Both managers are hands on and the waiters are true professionals, fun and courteous. Merci!

I wanted so bad to give 5 stars but couldn't.
The inside was decorated very nice.
The servers were very nice.
It took forever to get a drink, we're talking 20 minutes after ordering before it was brought to the table. I asked for water with an expensive cocktail. It took about an hour to get the water, when it came it was room temperature not even cold.
I ordered another drink and waited so long. I ended up drinking my husband's water. The 3rd drink I ordered never came.
I ended up asking the server to fill my cocktail glass with water as well as my water glass.
The food we ordered was very good, one person in our party was served cold food and they were quick to offer a replacement.
I noticed no management has responded to any reviews left which comes across as uncaring.
We take the time to review good points as well as minor blips to work on.the least you could do is acknowledge that we value your restaurant.
This could be a 5 star right across the board if management acted apon the feedback given

Expensive but the food here is incredible. I especially enjoyed the Dwindling Light, which was like an old fashioned that I’ve never before experienced - get it!

Great place to eat seafood and learn a bit about Halifax history and the city connections to the Titanic.
