The Hollis Halifax - a DoubleTree Suites by Hilton

This was heaven in Halifax. I have never felt so pampered in my life! There is so much to see and do within a block or two, I truly didn’t have enough time. Absolutely amazing!

I stayed at Holis in Halifax last week & the condition of the room was filthy. I found long black hair on the pillows, short hair in the shower tray, both mirrors in bathroom not cleaned, sticky substance on bedside table (closest bathroom) and wax on the high top table in kitchen. I asked the next day for my room to be cleaned, they made the bed but didn't clean the high top table, nor bedside table or mirrors, they also left a rag with black marks and long black hair balance on top of the shower curtain rail. I told reception that the room had not been cleaned properly and nothing was done at all. I told reception each day of the issues but they didn't care. I informed them when I checked out and they didn't say anything. The room also smelt musty as if it hadn't seen clean air for a while. Overall it was the worst stay for me in a Hilton since I started using your chain again a few years ago. Even at breakfast a tomato sauce bottle has steak sauce in it and my colleagues had to point out all the juices were labeled incorrectly.

I have stayed at this hotel before without issue but I won't go back as the standards are not that of an hilton. I have photos of all this.

I have checked into this hotel, and right there on the bed, found hairs of someone who’s been sleeping there before I have. The hotel clearly did not change the sheets before i arrived. I called the front desk and after explaining, the front desk guy just came up and gave me keys to another room. And it didn’t feel like the apology was very sincere.
I would recommend that you check your pillows thoroughly on both sides once you check into the room to see if there is any signs of hair. But I wont be staying here again, unless I absolutely have to.

Okay, out of all the times I've stayed here, I have never taken the time to write a review. Not because I wasn't happy with this hotel, as the rooms are always clean and desk staff are always friendly, but I guess it was just because nothing over the top ever stood out. This weekend, that all changed! I have never bothered to go to the bar in the main lobby, but boy I'm glad I decided to. The bartender was really something! I'm not much of a drinker anymore and cocktails were certainly never my drink of choice to begin with. Vince's (the bartender) cocktails however are A MUST HAVE! He has incredible skills on multiple levels! Not only does he carry great conversation, but seems to take that conversation and somehow guage what kind of drinks he thinks would fit you best. I decided to let him get creative and make me something he thought I would like. The first night he made me 3 different cocktails in which were OUT OF THIS WORLD DELICIOUS! The second night, 4 different cocktails that were also so AMAZING. This guy knows what he is doing on a whole other level. Even my spouse was very impressed as he knows that was never something I would choose to drink. Cocktails are generally too sweet, too strong or just taste horrible in general but not Vince's. He is a mixology KING! Every drink was mixed to perfect balance and I have never in my life met anyone who could mix a drink like he can. But it also goes beyond that. The atmosphere he creates for his customers and the service he gives, is nothing short of phenomenal. He seems like such a genuine, down to earth person and you leave wishing he was one of your friends. When you stay here, GO SEE VINCE AT THE BAR. Even if drinking isn't really your thing, don't let that stop you. Go for the convo and have him make you a virgin cocktail as I'm sure he would make those just as great. Trust him and you won't be let down! Thanks for one of my best experiences at this hotel ever, Vince! This hotel is lucky to have you.

The only good thing about this place was the Bartender and one of the breakfast staff. They were super nice. The rest of the staff were rude and acted like it was an inconvenience to have you there. They tried to put us in a smaller room. They charge separately for everything, including breakfast which was very pricey and not anything to brag about. They don't have on-site parking either, it's a parking garage about a block down the street. It felt like a waste of money, and believe me, they want a lot. Definitely not worth it at all and won't be back.

Good value for money. Comfortable beds, nice stylish rooms that are well equipped and clean. Manager Amer is absolutely delightful and was dedicated to making sure our stay was comfortable and our business appreciated.

Other than the location, I was unimpressed with this hotel. My sister and I arrived from Toronto for the night with my 5 year old nephew.

When we arrived all of the counter tops were dirty. As if no one wiped them down. They were sticky and full of drink rings. Not a huge deal, but all of them were dirty (both side tables, the dresser, the mini bar counter and bathroom counter). It made me wonder what else they didn’t clean.

Also, there was a birthday party in the room below us. It sounded like an all out rager. After complaining to the front desk three times, they finally kicked the group out at 1 am. My nephew is 5 and didn’t fall asleep until after 1 am. We were told they couldn’t move us rooms because they were at capacity. When we complained again at check out the front desk agent told us that they did have other rooms and the night agent lied.

The hotel is understaffed and had 1 person on. It’s not the staff’s fault. I was told someone from the hotel would call us, but no one has.

I will not be staying here again.

We used to stay at this hotel all the time and loved it. We were always warmly greeted and well taken care of by the staff.
This time was much different. We struggled to carry our own bags up the steps while two employees watched. We had to park our own car in a muddy lot in the rain. The front steps of the hotel were littered with cigarette butts and smelled of smoke.
When I mentioned this to the man at the front desk, he started filming me as though I was going to do something illegal! This was extremely insulting.
We are Lifetime Diamond members and we will never stay in this particular Hilton again.

Checked in late last night at about midnight after landing in Halifax. About a 30 min drive in good weather. Picked this hotel based on reviews from trip advisor. Some negative reviews but overall a very good experience so far being open minded. No issues with staff and our room is clean and updated. Breakfast not included. Much busier tonight since it is Friday. Everyone must remember this is downtown Halifax so no there is not a big entrance parking lot to offload, etc. maps takes you to a slightly wrong location. The entrance is on Hollis street not saris or Bedford roads. Hollis is a one way street to add to the difficulty. Parking was OK last night and is located on the opposite corner diagonally to the entrance. There are signs but not super clear at night. This evening it already looks full so their next lot is right beside but apparently you can't go in and out at will. Super great location and easy walk to all attractions such as citadel and argle row. From room 406 we have a great view of the harbor. We a separate room and living room, two tvs and small kitchen terrace area with eating table. Washroom has two entrance doors. Only issue, it was really raining when we arrived and it had a couple puddles of water in the eating area. Looks like our windows leak a little but no issues. Heat was good. Good little pool, hot tub with hot water and workout room. Location, location, location.

Paid a lot of money for a room then was told I had to park down the road and walk and pay another 28 dollars a night for parking but the parking lot full so I had to pay for street parking then the Bartender refused to make me a drink because he said he didn't want to while a mouse was running across the floor. I ended up going to another hotel and had to wait 7 days for a refund. It was a terrible experience and I will never stay there again

Great stay for a family vacation, elevator control switch went down when we first arrived but they were able to get it up and running pretty quickly.

Sadly, didn't know to ask for a cookie at check in until a friend asked if I got one!

Stayed 5 nights (501 and 701) and was not impressed. The room had black mold in one corner by the heating system, shower was cold 1 of the 5 nights. No humidifier in the building and the air was very dry causing nose bleeds. The shower had a rain shower head that was dangling from the ceiling. Water was highly softened and was always white and had a strong salt taste. The lobby was always cold, and not worth the breakfast at $16. Parking ($25/night) was an issue for 2 of the 5 nights and needed to park in a garage further down the road with no in and out privileges. The front desk had to issue passes for this garage and does not tell people about this garage or what to do when their lot is full. Not to the normal Hilton standards. Staff appeared new and didn't care. Will not recommend nor stay here again.

Large comfortable rooms with lots of seating and areas to stretch out.
It's right downtown within walking distance to great restaurants and entertainment.
With better parking it would be perfect.

This place was horrible, first of all the parking was straight garbage. It’s a little parking lot beside the hotel that you have to pay $25 to park. 2 trucks already got blocked in. In the room the hot water wouldnt even work so i couldnt even shower. I asked the front desk and they said a boiler was broken and it would be fixed in the morning, they gave us free parking because of it. In the morning it still wasnt working. This place was terrible i do not recommend this.

Bright and clean. Stayed in a suite with the kids. Lots of room for eating and hanging out.

If you have an option for another hotel, send it. I can't recommend this one. First off, $25/day for uncovered, unsecured, gravel lot parking. You are right downtown tho, so ditch the car in Sackville or something.

Some of the rooms are terribly designed. Wanna watch TV from the couch? Naw Fam, use the peeling leather chair at the desk.

Did you actually expect the climate control to work all year? That's a premium upgrade. Expect your shower to be mildew free? Not here. Want serviceable towel racks? I guess that's extra.

As an additional feature, the taps and shower heads aren't actually mounted to anything except the pipes, but you'll be alright.

Thought this was a Hilton, not Motel 6. At least it's quiet, and the pillows are soft.

Excellent hotel in the heart of Halifax. As a rewards member they gave me a free room upgrade and made me feel very welcome in the city. Nice service and also a delicious breakfast.

So good, room is nice. Clean and well stocked. Bad, location is terrible if you have a car. They charge 25$ a night for an unpaved, non secure outdoor parking downtown. Insane. Calling the front desk from outside the hotel typically takes 3-5 tries.

All in all.its okay. 3500$ for 7 nights.breakfast not included in that haha. I'll gladly stay there if work pays again sure, but not on my own dime.

Sheer perfection! Location is close to the pier area and many dining options? Staff was extremely positive and friendly.

Very mediocre stay. Location is great - hotel is very close to the harbour front and restaurants and our room had a nice view of the harbour and the room was large. Hotel itself is disappointing. Rooms are old, counters were stained with cup rings all over the place, splatter on the walls. I stayed in 2 different rooms over my 7 day stay… both were the same. Check-in experience was disappointing - the front desk staff seemed inconvenienced when I asked to check in after a long flight at 11pm. I was given a parking pass and told “the lot is down the road… you can’t miss it”. The parking lot is a gravel lot, full of potholes with no lighting and was completely full with vehicles double parking each other. Frustrated, I returned the pass and just parked in a nearby parkade for half the cost.

Note to fellow parents - the hotel did not have any cribs. I was told they didn’t runout… they simply do not have them. Hilton Diamond member and I’ve travelled to at least half a dozen hotels this year with my baby across Canada and Ireland…. This was a first. Fortunately we always travel with a travel cot as a backup.

Overall, if you’re looking for a cheap room with nice views and don’t need to park, this might be your hotel. For me, I’ll be trying the Marriott properties down the road next stay.

Great hotel in a great location. Close to Maritime museum. There are lots of restaurants close by. We could see the bay from our room. There is a little sandwich shop and store across the street.front desk was very accommodating. Breakfast was good. Our suite was beautiful and roomy. It was more like a small apartment than a hotel room. Nothing to cook with, eat, or make a meal though. Kitchenware may have been cleaned out for covid. Great experience. I would definitely come back if I visit the city again

Hotel and room was very clean. Staff was very friendly and helped get our room ready early after an early morning flight. Location is great being only a block from the water and close to most of the downtown.
