The Lower Deck

My friend and I went to the pub to have a drink, but ended up staying until the end of the night. They had live entertainment playing in the courtyard that night which was fantastic!

The seating was unique in the sense of a high school cafeteria style, which fosters the ability to have conversations and make new friends. The food was really good and the staff are a super friendly bunch.

Had the fish n chips and it was pretty good.

Went a second time and was told it was a $9 a person charge for live music. We were just looking for a quick bite to eat, so ended up leaving. I do feel $9 cover charge is a bit much though.

Terrible reception from the staff. Inadvertently walked in with a beer from another pub. Entire party kicked out before even had a chance to give up the beer. Did not live up to the reputation for Canadian friendliness.

I've been to Halifax 3 times, and I've been to the lower deck 5 times. It's just a must-do when you visit the city. Good staff, good music, good food, and tons of history. Just a fantastic spot, one of my favourite places in all of Canada.

My family tried to eat here on Friday, October 8, around 12: 30 pm. It was 5 adults (all double vaccinated) and one infant. We were all hungry but the infant was sleeping so we were looking for somewhere with a booth so we could eat and the infant could continue sleeping.

We reached the front door and saw the proof of vaccine notice and a sign that said we should wait to be seated. So, we all pulled out our vaccine receipts and IDs and waited. After a few minutes, no one came out, so my brother walked a few steps inside the door (mask on, vaccine passport and ID in hand) just to ask someone if there were booths available. He was quickly rushed out the door by a server/greeter with a miserable look on his face and a terrible attitude and asked if we all had our vaccine passports and IDs. We all happily responded yes and quickly held up our passports/IDs, however, we weren't even trying to enter at that point because we still needed to know if there was a booth.

Every single time we tried to ask the guy if they had booths, he interrupted us with “no, no, no, you need to show me your vaccine cards FIRST. ” We all responded again and again that we have them (literally holding them in our hands), but we were JUST wondering about the booth. After he interrupted us about 6 times, we just left and went to Pickford and Black (10/10 btw, friendly and professional staff and INCREDIBLE food!).

I'm not sure what this guy's problem was. We're all pro-vaccine and completely agree with having to show it before entering a restaurant. Advice to the restaurant: actually listen to your customers before harassing them about a passport they would be HAPPY to show you. We were just trying to ask a question (outside of the restaurant, masks on, vaccine passports and ID in hand). Your server didn't need to be rude to us, we were actually excited to eat there. At the very least, he could have smiled and heard what we had to say. I understand that tensions are running high with the new passport laws, but we were being nice to him and following all the rules. He seriously needs to chill out and remember that he works in customer service. After all, as the customers, we were treating him with more respect than he treated us.

What you would expect from a bar. $8 cover to hear a live band but they didn’t start til much later. However they were worth the wait. The crowd was good and the staff never left us with an empty beer glass for long

The live music was absolutely amazing. The way the bar is decorated is beautiful too. Very cool ambiance.

The one star is for the extremely poor customer service at this establishment. Yesterday, my fiancée and I went to sit upstairs as Lower Deck was full. After we settled up, we got a text that seats were ready downstairs. The host (really nice woman) took us to 6 stools which looked like they were maybe a waiting area since there were no tables/ledges to keep a drink on/eat food from. We couldn’t hear what she had said before she left. A male server (about 5’7/5’8 in height) came up to us to take our drink orders - so I went to clarify if the stools were the seats. We are new to Halifax so hadn’t been to Lower Deck before. He immediately pointed to the stools and said “you’re in them, you can go upstairs instead. ” I was shocked at how abrupt he was so I clarified that we hadn’t been here before and weren’t sure how seating worked here-hence the question. Then he told us it’s seat yourself once you’re in so when someone leaves a table, we can sit there. He was quite rude to me but we brushed it off. He did take our drink orders though.

Then we saw 2 available seats at the bar and took them. I saw that same server talking to the other male servers behind the bar and it was clear he was talking about me. All night, my fiancée (who is a white man, may I add) got asked every time before his drink was over if he wanted a new one. He always had a full drink. Me on the other hand (a person of colour) did not ever get asked by any server once if I wanted a new drink. It was absolutely intentional. While the servers may not be outwardly racist, I felt that their racial bias was showing. It wasn’t a good feeling for me. I wasn’t rude to anyone. I had just asked a question.

I think this was a one off since folks in Halifax seem very warm, helpful and kind. We went to another establishment afterwards where the service was exceptionally great.

Yesterday was our first day in Halifax so we won’t let the poor service from one place cloud our opinion. I’ll avoid going back there at all costs.

Fun atmosphere. Had live music the night we were there and band (wrecked house) was very good. Limited wine selection. Right on the waterfront which was the reason given for the mouse under our table! I guess you have to take the good with the bad!

Awsome patio! They were short on staff, but they made it work with no issue. Location was great, service was great and the food was great!

It was my first time here, I really enjoyed it. The price of food was decent and tasty, but I wish their fries could be better. Their fish and salad were good! Love the atmosphere and the live music! People were really enjoyed the moment and that’s my favorite part of this bar. The only thing I was concerned was the price of beer. Beer was great, but they didn’t have menu, and price was mysterious lol after I got the bill and almost passed out lol otherwise I really enjoyed it, the artist (musician) was so gooood! Will go back again for the live music for sure!

Nice place with good food. We had the veggie burger and the ground turkey burger which were both wonderful. Outdoor patio is beautiful right on the waterfront

Fish and chips weren't bad, staff is friendly and have good selection of beer. They also have fairly good entertainment as well!

Lively place, always fun atmosphere, the staff are all gems. Currently closed for the season. But I’ll be for sure headed back when it opens

The Lower Deck is a staple in the Halifax Bar scene. I have visited on many of Sunday's. The prices are comparable to any other bar in Halifax, same goes for the food prices. Quality is standard for Halifax. Service is also on par with the rest of Halifax. The entertainment is always great, and the atmosphere is awesome. The patio outside always makes for a great night.

The server we had was very friendly and prompt. She checked in on us often and was always so cheery when addressing us. The food was delicious and arrived quickly.

Last week, I had lunch at the Lower Deck on Clayton Park. I ordered the fish and chips with a coffee! The food was delicious! Fresh fish melted in my mouth. Tartar sauce was perfect! The coleslaw was fresh and homemade. French fries were crispy with a lovely season! Coffee was freshly brewed. My server Justin was excellent, engaging and attentive to my needs! All Covid 19 protocols were in place and followed. I love going to the Clayton Park location as it has a family friendly community atmosphere! I always mention the Lower Deck to residents and visitors. Location has lots of parking and is on numerous convenient bus routes!

Had an exceptional night out here with a local band, I forget the name, but they were incredibly good. Table service kept everyone's drinks topped up nicely.

Great place to stop in for a bite or to enjoy live music.

This is a great place for entertainment and to grab a bite. The food is quick and hot when you recieve it and the staff are quick, friendly and very informative on everything. I do wish they had Hinez Ketchup though

I finally managed to get my friend to come to The Lower Deck (Lacewood) and try the best brunch in town:
Eggs Benedict with the Citrus Salad.
She was impressed!
(Now she would like to become a member of the loyalty club, too, but we forgot to ask the server. Can she do that online?)
I tell myself often to try something else on the menu, but I end up choosing the same, because I can't get enough of the Eggs Bennie and the salad!

Lovely small bar with great live music. We really enjoyed the spinach dip and chocolate peanuts butter cheesecake. Beautiful little spot hidden along the pier with overhead lights creating a romantic walkway to their doorways. Had a lot of fun!

Every time I visit I have to make a stop at the Lower Deck. Excellent entertainment. Great spot!

This place never ceases to amaze with amazing staff, food and entertainment it is a one stop venue for get together with friends, business get together, special event stag, stagette and birthday parties. You won’t be disappointed with the staff that go out of their way to accommodate you and friendly service. All while maintaining social distancing and protecting themselves and others. Five stars hands down

Julia was our server. She is awesome. Dan was working too and they both are very great servers. Super friendly and helpful. Food was fantastic like usually.

As a long time regular at the bar I have my favorite menu item. It is the nachos! Best in Halifax by far. Last night I broke away from that and ordered an entrée. The Bacon wrapped Chicken with roasted potatoes and seasonal veg. It was superb! The chicken was soo juicy, perfectly cooked.the sauce was delish the potatoes roasted to perfection. This may sound like a funny comment but it was a perfect woman sized meal and not ladened with garlic (not a good thing when downtown lol). My plate was spotless when I was done and with my reward certificate I couldn't argue with the price! Love my rewards card and I will definitely be ordering it again. Sociable!

My Mom and I come here for lunch about once a month and we always have great food and friendly service.

I generally would give you a 5 star, but I just found some, not all of your staff a little aggressive, I am sure they are stressed, but maybe some need a little time off, I am sure that's hard to do when they are just trying to make a living, but I will be back.

Lower Deck Clayton Park is my favourite place for brunch, a quick lunch, or a casual date night dinner. My boyfriend and I visit often, nearly every week, the staff are friendly and the food is always delicious!

! This pub has drastically lost its luster since covid 19.extremely poor service unattentive staff.treating you like a bother instead of a valued customer!

Staff were fantastic! Kenny was our waiter all night and is a sweetheart! He was so attentive and accomadating! Perfect for this position!

Was there Friday night service was terrible, there was about a 100 people in place, waited for someone to come and to clean the table. Our group of seven stood up at least 10 minutes with no staff interested in cleaning the table to be seated. We had to flag uninterested staff down just to get seated, then couldn't get any table service until basically aggressively waving and gaining attention of the two servers. After a large exspesive drink order still the staff seemed distant and uninterested in providing service. This establishment seems to have drastically gone down hill even before covid-19 regulations. Maybe a overhaul in too comfortable of staff and hands on management would improve this once popular spot!
