The Middle Spoon Desserterie & Bar

The food, service, and ambiance were all incredible. Cocktails were excellent, and we particularly enjoyed the Aphrodite’s Kiss and the peanut butter pie, and our servers were incredibly friendly. This is a great place to visit with slightly older family, and it’s especially fun if you can figure out the secret ;)

Food that we tried was fine, but ice cream was a bit icy (with ice chunks in it). We were sat in these horrendous chairs, asked to move. We got to go to a slightly better seating. Staff was quite loud, joking around and laughing a lot. Not very pleasant.

Ordered a couple of desserts here while visiting Halifax. We got the chocolate torte and peanut butter pie. Both were amazing. Portion were neither too big or small. And they weren't very sweet. In a good way. Nicely balanced flavours. Good place to go if you're looking to sit down and satisfy those dessert cravings.

We came for a little cocktail and dessert. Some things were unusual, like the almost impossible to read in lighting, a sticky table despite almost no customers, and receiving one of four biscuits rock hard. I assume the lighting is intended to create a romantic late night atmosphere but I personally thought it pushed it a little far. I did appreciate the softness of the environment though, you could hold a conversation at a reasonable volume.

I appreciate that the selection of desserts was minimal, and because we came here because that was their specialty that’s what we tried. Nothing was absolutely phenomenal but nothing was a let down (other than the rock hard biscuit).

The real star of the evening was a lovely warm cocktail that paired very well with the pavlova.

Overall it was rather expensive and nothing amazing.

I had the lemon biscuits with jam. Three out of the four were excellent, but the fourth was very hard. The server apologized and quickly got me a replacement, but the replacement was just as hard! The other dessert we had were pretty good, but I had to drop a star because of the biscuit experience.

Went for dessert after dinner, ordered a cocktail, pretty plain, no texture to the drink, just the mixed liquor dumped in a glass. We went for the sundae as dessert, not worth the money. I asked for a little drizzle of toffee sauce, they charged me 1.50 for that, ontop of the $12 I paid for like two scoops of ice cream.

Stopped in to grab a bottle of pre-mixed cocktail. So good, and was worth the little extra money I spent. Would buy again, would recommend.

Heard a bunch of great things about here, but was severely disappointed when I visited. The service was extremely slow and not great. The dessert was decent and the drinks are alright. Definitely not looking to rush back anytime soon

The atmosphere was amazing, the bartender was kind and has a good amount of bar flair which made it seem like he knew what he was doing.
My only real concern with this location is the prices on their website don't match their menus! Everything is about ~$2 more expensive than what is listed.

I got two drinks which were both wonderful albeit a tad pricey. Also got the pulled pork sliders which were DELICIOUS- but only bite-sized! I expected a bit more for $12. The sweet potato soup was also lovely.

I'll definitely have to be back to sample some desserts and try some more of their extensive cocktail menu.

Biased? No way! Should I get a loyalty card for the many times a year I visit them? Yes! I think so!
I’ve tried drinks, dessert, food, desserts… did I say dessert? Their sticky toffee pudding is my favourite by far, their chocolate torte, their drinks, everything is on point.
How do they do it, it’s great every time I go.

Keep up the great work guys and I think you should start a “loyalty card” because I would have earned a lot of points by now, for the number of visits I make:)

The service was absolutely top notch. I can recall few places with such friendly and charismatic staff. Desserts were exceptional and the bartender was so enthusiastic and talented.

Extremely rude server at the entrance, we left before we sat down. The place was empty (downtown location). I’d rather spend my money at a place that they actually want guests at.

Went in at 10pm looking for a table for 2. Said they were full but we were next in line, and took our number for the wait list. Walked around downtown for an hour before we gave up and went somewhere else. They never did call.

Waiter came by only once to serve us and then never showed up again. We proceeded to spend two hours waiting and trying to get a table downstairs with no luck, while people who just walked in randomly get first priority. Awful customer service and basically paying for really overpriced drinks. They really don't seem to know what they're doing.

I have been frequenting the Middle Spoon for a few years now and it's easily my favorite dessert spot in Halifax. Every menu item is fantastic and the staff are always friendly, fast and knowledgeable. The cocktail menu is iconic in Halifax, and is so vast you can find a cocktail for nearly anyone. Great spot!

Desserts were pretty good. For charging $12-15 for a dessert I would expect everything from the ice cream to the dessert to be made in the house. Disappointed when the waitress said that the ice cream was store bought. Also I don’t know if the waitress was having a bad day or was tired that night but she seemed to be trying to avoid customers. I had raised my hand a couple times to order and she look past me then went on her phone. Not professional at all and as a waitress myself I would always care for the customers needs no matter how bad of a day I had. If the manager is reading this review I would just like to say please address this situation to your servers as I am disappointed by the service I was given. Thank you
