The Orient Chinese Cuisine

Fresh ingredients, perfectly prepared, as you would expect from their renowned chef, who made a point to visit our table to make sure everything was correct. The eggplant in black bean sauce with mixed veggies was a highlight.

Grabbed some takeout from this place last night and it is probably my new favourite Chinese restaurant. The sweet n sour chicken is so delicious; the egg rolls are for sure the best I’ve ever had; and the Lion’s Head meatballs are ginormous and very tasty. The lady who answered the phone when I called to ask questions, (and then brought me my order when I arrived), was very pleasant, professional and helpful. I will be adding this place to my regular takeout rotation.

We were back for another amazing meal this weekend at The Orient. It’s my girlfriend’s favourite restaurant so I took her out for a birthday dinner and we were once again very impressed by how delicious everything is. The prices have gone up since our last visit but for a special occasion I still feel it is worth the cost. We tried a few new dishes like the Green Beans and the Chilli Chicken and of course we got a few egg rolls that are by far the best we’ve ever had. The Yang Chow rice and the Lions Head meatballs are some of our other favourite offerings. The total came to $155.25 after tax and before the tip so although it’s rather expensive, it was delicious and we had enough to take some home for breakfast! Can’t wait to go back for another amazing meal.

The food is ok, but price is much overpriced, check your pockets and think twice before you go inside.

What an absolute treasure we have hidden away in Bedford. Authentic (not I repeat not Canadian) Chinese cuisine. These are generational learned recipes passed down. My tastebuds were in love. I will be a regular. 10/10

It’s okay if the meat is hairy and not processed. The chief yelled confidently in the kitchen, even the f word came out, yelling that this was meat with pickles and vegetables. I was so scared that I quickly picked up my phone, Googled Baidu and added Xiaohongshu to confirm and eat it. Does the braised pork with pickled vegetables look like this after decades? Then he rushed to our table and said if that's not what u want, u don't need to pay, but don't come back again. U are always causing trouble. We went to the store more than a dozen times and said to me today always cause trouble. It's really sad. Just admit it when you're wrong. With such a big heart and cooking skills, it's no wonder we were the only table in the hall at seven o'clock. The roast duck also smells moldy and barks in the kitchen. How could the freshly cooked duck become moldy? Who knows if the duck is fresh.

This restaurant have serious hygienic issues. We ordered pick up today and while we eating we found a very long gray hair in the food from my mouth.it was very disgusting and after that I start having stomach issue I need to go to the bathroom all night.do not come here unless you want to have diarrhoea all night.

This is our favourite Chinese restaurant in Halifax. We always come here when we’re in town. The lobster dishes are amazing! Make sure you order them ahead of time since Chef Ivan gets them straight from the fisherman himself. Don’t miss out on this place.

If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, I would definitely recommend coming here!
The flavors were strong and the dishes reminded me a lot of home cooked meals from my mom and provided a sense of comfort.
Not your typical "Canadian Chinese" food, you can tell the dishes are made proper with the right spices and flavors and not deep fried and battered like most Chinese food places.

The menu seems to be a sharing menu based on the items we got, but if you have a big appetite, you won't be disappointed.

Chef Ivan has definitely outdone Chinese cuisine here in HRM!

The outside of the restaurant does give you that sense of "hole in the wall", however when you go inside, the cleanliness is unreal! So don't be taken back by the look of the outside, because the inside is a way different feeling and you can tell the owners take great pride in ensuring the restaurant is clean and comfortable.

Highly recommend, won't be our last time going there that's for sure!

I had heard this place has the best Peking duck in Halifax.

Absolutely fantastic experience at Orient Chinese Cuisine in Halifax, Nova Scotia! From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warm hospitality. The ambiance was inviting, and the decor added to the overall pleasant dining atmosphere. The menu offered a wide variety of mouthwatering dishes, and each one was a delight to the taste buds. The flavors were authentic, and the ingredients were fresh, reflecting the true essence of Chinese cuisine.

The service was top-notch, with attentive and friendly staff who ensured that our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. Our dishes were served promptly, and the presentation was impeccable. The portions were generous, making it a great value for money.

We highly recommend trying their signature dishes, as they were undoubtedly the highlight of the meal.

Orient Chinese Cuisine truly exceeded our expectations, and we left with happy hearts and satisfied palates. It's evident that the Chef Ivan behind this establishment takes great pride in their food and service. Honestly, the workers were super duper friendly, but that’s about it. The food was horrible to say the least. I had very high expectations considering the high prices and the multiple certificates and trophy pics the chef had displayed. It’s easily the worst Chinese food I’ve ever tasted. The Shanghai noodles were bland, I couldn’t believe it. Felt like I was chewing nothing. I’m not exaggerating. The fried rice was somehow even worse. For $26 you would think it would taste somewhat decent, but tbh at that point I’d rather munch on a plain bowl of plain white rice. My last straw was the shrimp. Honestly how does one mess up Shrimp? It Literally has to be the simplest thing to cook but barely had any flavour. I will not be trying this place again, tbh you’re better off grabbing cheap Chinese mall food. Good customer service though.

FRESH FRESH FRESH! I could not believe how fresh the food is at this restaurant! It was my daughter's first time trying Chinese and when the waitress learned this, she brought out eggrolls on the house for her to try (the most amazing egg rolls I have EVER had!), so sweet and welcoming of her! I highly recommend this place if you are looking for authentic, fresh chinese food!

Authentic food! Service was good and welcoming. The chief chatted with us for a while. I loved the food is not as sweet as other places in NS. Price is higher than other Chinese restaurants for sure but we can tell the difference.

Our first visit at dinner time, this restaurant is an upscale Chinese restaurant with an extensive array of individual dishes. There is no pre-set menu offered other than one named "Meat Lovers" which we tried. On the plus side the food was generous, tasty, fresh and original. Service was very willing. On the negative side, other than no offering of pre-set meals (understandable in an upscale establishment), the entrance and surrounds were very grubby. We were provided literally ice cold plates from which to eat our food, We had to have them warmed which they willingly did, but disappointing that we had to ask. They offer absolutely no coffee of any description. The washroom was clean but both sink taps ran only cold water. We decided not to return, even though we live locally and eat out a lot.

Amazing authentic Chinese food. Ivan came out to check how everything was and talked with all 4 of us for quite awhile I would recommend this restaurant 100% quality was amazing and food was fresh will definitely be back

Just tried for the first time. I’m not a foodie but I found that the Orients food was very fresh and felt good on my belly. Hard to explain but compared to other Chinese food it just felt premium. The owner Ivan came by to check in on us, very nice guy.

Highly recommend if you want to try more traditional Chinese food with what would seem like quality ingredients!
