The Quarterdeck Resort

My first time staying and unfortunately my last. I called to book a room. Prompted to voice mail left one at start of the day. No one called me back by supper time so I had to keep calling till someone picked up. They acknowledged my voice mail but never said why they didn't call back. Anyways attempted to book over phone but then at the end when I asked what time was check in they said 3pm but we cannot gurantee that. Said could be ready for 3 or 6 or whenever. They did not offer a discount for any delays or allow any extentions on check out. I hung up ended booking the room online as decided to risk it. Booked wrong room I didn't need 2 beds to called back to change and once again prompted to voice mail that they didn't call me back for again. Arrived checked in for 4pm room was ready clean and nice except for numerous spiders in bathroom and shower floor was dirty had the pink scum on the bottom. Everything else fine food was fantastic at the restaurant and their service was great. Left next day by 11am and by supper time I realized I left a full bottle of Cologne on the bathroom sink there. Called no answer yet again prompted to a voicemail kept calling till someone answered they took my info and would check with house keeping. 2 days past no one calls me back. I get through get a person who said they were one of the 2 who cleaned the room. Thought this is great I left a $20 tip for room tendant so surely they have my Cologne. Proceeded to tell me nope never saw it. I know without a doubt it was on the bathroom sink. So I'll let your judgements fall on that. For a $400 room I would expect better customer service on the room side of things. I have no complaints regarding the restaurant.

I'm reviewing the restaurant.location overlooking the beach is spectacular.our server, Kyle, was outstanding, A+. And the food was great.between our group we had fish and chips, scallops, burger and pesto halibut.everyone loved their meal.highly recommend the Quarterdeck Grill

My favorite Beach hotel in Nova Scotia. Beautiful Shoreline rooms steps from the beach. Perfect for a relaxing getaway. Great restaurant on site.

The room was just as it appeared in the online preview, friendly customer service and beautiful location.

Over priced 370.00can price of the two bedroom long hill top slight view of the beach hotel room which is definitely not beach side. Disappointed with the price, the hill top and the check in and out service was beyond disorganized. Other than the fact all the family going to a wedding stayed there, I would never have stayed. There were cheesy puffs under the living room table and a black bug on my bed comforter.

The restaurant is directly on the beach with great seats, but be sure to book a table it's busy, and not that large. The eggs Benny was the best I have ever had, kudos to the chef.

The beach is flat, and not part of the hotel but actually a provincial park.

I've stayed a couple times now, two nights each time. First time I was up in the hilltop rooms. They were new, everything was fresh and modern. Although it's a walk to get there, it had a beautiful view of the beach. Second time was in the studio beach villa. It could use some upgrades, but I knew that going in. They're obviously some of the first rooms built there. The bathrooms are very tiny but it gets the job done. Steps from the beach and the restaurant.

The food at the restaurant is fantastic. Zero complaints about the service. It is a touch pricey however if you factor in the convenience and fuel you'd need to travel somewhere else to eat it's not that bad.

The beach is beautiful and large so even when it's hot out it doesn't feel overcrowded.

We'll be back for a third time.

Awesome place to stay. Room was beautiful and well equipped. They go out of their way to make things perform you stay. Matthew took the time to deliver a large pot to us so we could cook lobster in the room. So impressed by this resort and highly recommend!

We stopped for a bite to eat to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary. We stop in often on our trip from our home in St. Margaret’s Bay to our Yarmouth Cottage. We are never disappointed by the Grill. Staff are pleasant, food is delicious and the view is outstanding. We have been coming here for more than 12yrs. It holds a special place in our hearts.

Beware, the photos on the website are very misleading, the pool is more of a hot tub, the sauna a closet, the rooms paper thin walls, lots of partiers, not family friendly. No games in rec center as advertised, just complete false advertisement. Basically a motel falsely marketed as a resort.

Beautiful location in sea side room. Restaurant food, ambiance and service was good.
However, resort facilities and service did not live up to expectations. Pool was tiny and not suitable for swimming.
On arrival for check in we were greeted with ‘can you move your car it is right in the middle of the parking lot’! (which was empty) No hallo smile or greeting. Customer service has a long way to go here.
On leaving our room at check out time, (there was no flexibility on check out time even in low season) the housekeeping team were waiting outside the door like vultures!
Not a good welcome or goodbye.

The server was rather surly and the food was less than mediocre. The broth for the mussels was so salty as to be inedible and my my fish dish and vegetables appeared to have been reheated and was dried out on the edges. I was quite a disappointment because we drove for a half an hour to get there.

I stayed here with husband, 1 year old son and our dog in the Seawood room over thanksgiving. We were really impressed with the room, super clean, spacious and well equipped kitchen! The balcony was huge and although we were the furthest building from the water, it still had a lovely view.

We had lunch at the restaurant and the food exceeded expectations. I got the fish sandwich, fries were incredible.

My only complaint was the swimming pool doesn’t have showers (in the rec building), seems odd for cleanliness of the pool.

We think this is one of the best places to stay in NS. Can’t wait to come back for beach weather!

Went to the restaurant only. It was an excellent dinner. The ambience is very nice with ocean views from every spot in the dining area. The wait staff are efficient, polite and friendly. The food was served in a calculated timely manner and very attentive. We had salads to start both fresh and tasty. Our mains were a seafood medley and a striploin. The steak was cooked to perfection, juicy and delicious served with vegetables and small potatoes. The seafood dish was packed full of fresh seafood and delicious. I highly recommend a visit to this fine dining restaurant. Comparable pricing for high quality meals.

Update: service and quality continues to decline. Today (July 29 '22) I came in and ran into a server swearing about a customer, then didn't acknowledge me waiting to place a takeout order. Instead angrily moved tables and chairs while I stood behind them. I left without ordering. Not worth dealing with that. Will try again next year (maybe).

Food was good featuring some local favorites like halibut and muscles and haddock. Service was good and the updated building is nice. Amazing views and scenery.

Always worth a stop in when visiting the South shore.

On the spur of the moment for our 40 plus anniversary wanted to go to a nice beach so we ended up for the night at the Quarterdeck resort. It was over the top fabulous. Our room was crispy clean the view was over looking the Summerville Beach. We had dinner at the Grill which was excellent our server Kyle was a very friendly and pleasant fellow and the food was excellent. We both will be going back for an longer stay in the near future. This resort is a hidden gem in the most beautiful part of the province. Thank you to your staff who made us feel very welcome. Hope to see you all again very soon. Jim & Sheila Murphy

Omg such a beautiful beach, very cold though! Food at quarter deck was incredible! Hands down best fish n chips I've ever had! Staff for the resort and the restaurant were super nice, very helpful!

First night of our honeymoon. We won’t be returning. Opened a very expensive bottle of wine that was infested with fruit flies within 5 minutes. Slept with the windows open and woke to the smell of the sewage treatment plant outside of our window. Bathroom was so small you could barely move around. Was promised a complete refund twice at checkout. Called twice because my refund hadn’t been issued after weeks. Was informed by the not so pleasant office manager that we would only be getting a $50 refund not the whole amount as promised twice. She said that my husband and I must be wrong that a full refund was never promised. Questioned me as to if the fruit flies were actually fruit flies or sand flies? The bottle of wine was just opened and was ruined. The room was overpriced ($460) and there are much nicer places to stay in the area with a more professional staff. We won’t be returning.

I spent 2 nights and 3 days at a loft room.
Pros:
- Very nice room. Everything is included: cooktop, dish, knife, It is also very beautiful. 5 stars for the room and cleaning service.
- I like the movie room. Only chance for my noisy toddler to experience a movie theater.
- There are fitness room and indoor swimming pool. However, I have to say that the swimming pool is too small.
Cons:
- The beach right beside the Grill has a very unpleasant smell from the sewer nearby. Cannot understand why they dont address this issue. It is a very large beach, but the bad smell cover all of it.
- The food at the restaurant "the Grill" does not match to the price. For the same price range, the expensive restaurants at Halifax downtown are better.

Appalling. Booked a two night stay here and upon arrival at the 4pm check-in was told the room was not ready - which was disappointing but okay (these things happen). An hour and half later got a room but only after asking if another one might be available - why not give us this available room at the beginning? Came to the room to find dishes missing, no propane in Barbeque, etc. Okay annoying but no big deal right? Here's the kicker - got a phone call on our return accusing us of stealing their cheap coffee-maker. The manager was snarky in her message and in my follow up with her. When they actually looked again, lo and behold, the coffee-maker was there in the room. Nice to have businesses accuse first and look later - completely soured an already disappointing stay.

We booked for the start of our honeymoon. A seaside room. It smelled of sewage and was full of fruit flies. When checking out we were told we would be issued a refund. That never happened. We followed up 2 times and was told it takes 5-7 days for processing. Refund never came. We were told today that we were lying. And that we would not have been told the things we were. Asked if the fruit flies came from inside our bottle of wine and etc.the room was over $450 for a night. We were engaged on the patio and thought this would be a great start to our honeymoon. We were very wrong. Do not stay here if you have the choice. There are much nicer, cleaner, and more professional places to stay in Nova Scotia.

Visited for the Grill restaurant for the first time. Had a Crave passport that offered a free appy so me and the wife stopped in on the way through. Had a bowl of chowder and an amazing biscuit. Amazing view, right on the Ocean! Will be back, to stay next time.

We came from whitepoint to try the restaurant and were extremely disappointed with our server … very slow, forgot to give us cutlery, no water, completely wrong orders, and then overcharged once he made a mistake … it was too bad because the food was good.

The view is beautiful. Wait staff attentive. Smaller menu than previous year's expected with covid. Was difficult to get through to make a reservation (which is a MUST!). One suggestion - Would like small local desserts made on sight. Highly recommend.

The food was delicious. We sat outside to eat with our fur babies on the beautiful scenic water front. They not only catered to us but brought out a big bowl of ice water for the dogs as well and they thank you for the great service as we do. The waiter was a fantastic guy.

Absolutely amazing experience! Hilltop rooms and view are so nice! The quarterdeck grill.you can't go wrong with any of their meals, and the portions are perfect!

There are some food that are just not supposed to happen. I was astonished when they served me a portion of calamari with maple syrup or some kind of sweet gooey stuff! That's just not acceptable. I called in advance and asked for a custom-made cake for our anniversary, with "Happy Anniversary" written on it, they said the chef would take care of it. It was a surprise.but not a good one. We got two little fudge cakes, nothing written on, so sugary that we couldn't finish them.
Food is average at best but prices are pretty high. Dinner for 2 cost us about $150. Service is OK. Extra point for the location, but that's pretty much it.
Basically is a nicely decorated place, in a strategic position with low budget diner food at high prices.

It was great place, had everything we needed for our anniversary. They even had a vottle if wine left for us for our anniversary. It was amazing to have the beach right out your window, crack the window open at night and the waves are all you can hear when your sleeping.

Great 2 days overall. Not too happy with the "hot tub not hot tub". Comes up as having a hot tub but it is just a small warm pool with jets. When I look for places I put hot tub so was not too pleased with this.

Great people, great room, unbelievable view. Stayed in one of the beach front rooms, and would do it again, but I would have to pick the 3rd floor cause the upstairs people sounded like elephants. The Eastlink box didn't work but you dont need TV when you have that view.

Nice room and stuff or whatever but room was an hour and a half late to being ready, had to wait very long with nothing to do. Poor service.

The Quarter Deck is an wonderful break from the everyday.

The appointment of the room is excellent and the attention to detail shows from the kitchens to the bedding.

The health spa pool was wonderful and the gym allows folks to keep moving.

The rooms, and views are great, but the best part is the mile long beach.

The Quarterdeck is not inexpensive but is worth every penny. Go!

Where to start.
First of its a beautiful restaurant, clean with a beautiful view, and that's about it.
Had a reservation for a Friday night got a ocean view which was beautiful.
However we managed to the rudest most snottest server we have ever had, took order twice, non attentive and just didn't care.

Calamari is frozen like the same stuff you get at Costco just with some gross sweet beer sauce that just makes it soggy and dose not go at all with it.

Veggie paste was decent but a little bland, no salt or pepper on the table, server didn't bother to ask if we needed any.

Pan-fried haddock was frozen freezer burnt, bland and dried, rice pilaf taste like it's from a bag, and is a very small portion size.

Asked server if the fish was fresh rudely said "um yeah" and then walked away even though the dried crunchy pieces of fish was still on the plate, zero attempt to be helpful, gave us the debit machine and bill and completely disappeared.he clearly doesn't want to be a server so stop being one.

Bill was $90 for that garbage.

Very well appointed and cozy. Being literally right on the beach is great and the sound of the waves at night is so relaxing. Would recommend the Quarterdeck highly to anyone winter or summer. Thanks to the staff who were super accommodating. Didn't get to enjoy the dining room due to the pandemic but if as nice as the rest of the site, I'm sure would be a treat.

This is a beautiful spot, clean and serene. We stayed in a loft so we didn’t experience the ocean as much from across the street but we really enjoyed the spa tub outside. We may be back to book ocean front and hope that the restaurant is open. We enjoyed our stay.

Had a delicious meal this evening at The Quarterdeck. The food was excellent, the service was friendly and the ocean view amazing!

We ate at the Quarterdeck on Saturday evening. We were quite early so had a walk on the gorgeous, long, sandy beach first. We were still early for our reservation but the host fixed us a table within a few minutes. The atmosphere is bright and inviting. The scenery is beautiful. The staff were very friendly. The day had not gone well and this was exactly what we needed to cheer our spirits. Above all the waitress was exceptional. So accommodating, upbeat and friendly. We are excited to return but this time not only to eat in the restaurant but stay at the resort. Oh - and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed our excellent meals!

I had the most beautiful NS getaway at the Quarterdeck resort in Sumerville just look. Now imagine going to sleep with the sound of the waves crashing. Now wake up and have a beautiful day exploring, the pool and views are relaxing, and the room was so private! The staff is above and beyond helpful. Treat yourself and stay here

Spent an anniversary there. Staff had a bottle of wine in the fridge for us.

The place had the smell of a place I stayed in Denmark. Brought back memories.

No elevators but had a heated cement floor that was a nice addition. Beautiful beach view so the climb of the stairs up to the floor was worth it.

Loved this place! Everything we ate was tasty and top notch. The coconut shrimp with a Thai chili dip was delicious without taking my face off with spiciness. I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy the scallops with blueberry butter, but it was my favourite thing to eat. The waitress Heidi struck the right balance of professional and friendly, never hanging around needlessly but being there to answer questions if needed. And the location on the beach was delightful. We so enjoyed the whole experience. Thanks you for a memorable meal!

The nearby (public) beach is stunning and this resort is very close-by - part of it in actually on the beach and the other buildings are across the street. The building we stayed in was brand new and very modern with all everything you need (fridge, cooktop, etc.) The quality of construction and finishings were beyond what you would normally see in Nova Scotia.

However, this being said, it wasn't the best place to stay with kids. It is too fussy and lacks amenities. They technically have a pool (indoor and outdoor) but they are tiny and also have to be booked in advance by the hour (due to covid rules).

The pricing is very expensive for what you get. We paid over 500 per night including taxes. We enjoyed our stay, but when we go back to this area we will instead stay at Whitepoint and drive over to enjoy the public beach and dine at the Quarterdeck Restaurant (open to the public and excellent food).

The bed was super comfortable, the shower was strong and HOT, and it was so quiet there at night. We needed to have a break and just do nothing for a long weekend. This was a great place to do that.

We stopped in for a quick lunch, we had mussels the cheese biscuit plate and ceasar salad to share. Everything was very good and the view is spectacular. The staff is very attentive as well! A definite place to return to.

Beautiful spot.but I just found the food (what I had). Just mediocre. We were seated in the upstairs meeting room. No ambiance there at all.

Great food and atmosphere. My sole concern would be the pasta dish for children. Be careful of what age you are getting this for as the pasta is lentil-based and much tougher than normal pasta for little mouths.

Stayed in a beachfront room over New Years. Dinner was delicious and our room was clean, nicely decorated, and well stocked. Our biggest disappointment was the lack of breakfast. Given the price of the rooms, a breakfast option would be nice- especially because there are few options nearby. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay regardless. Beautiful beach!
