The Stretch Diner

It was just ok. They didn't have coffee at all. The poutine was loaded with old meat from days gone by. It was just ok. I wouldn't recommend this place, there are much better restaurants further into the downtown area. This is a different rating than I would've given it 5 years ago.

I was very skeptical when I walked in to eat but deffently glad I did food was amazing the portion size was great for the price.

The fish and chips was all burnt and fish soggy. Seems like they need to change their dry oil.

I ordered take out fish and chips. When I got home, I took the container out of the bag and opened the container up. I literally look inside the bag thinking most of it must have fallen out of the container and into the bag. The portion was that small. A child's portion would have been larger. The fries were not cooked. The fish had very little flavor. Plus, it was incredibly greasy. It was so gross. Their logo is 'great fish and chips'. I hate to know what they call bad fish and chips because their fish and chips are NOT great.they were terrible. I will never return.

The fish and chips were a fair price ($12.99) these days. The chips are hand cut (which is a rarity) and delicious. The fish was a good size, fresh, and had a tempura-like batter, and was delicious. The coleslaw was homemade and delicious. The ambiance is pretty much non existent, and the table and floor cleanliness needs attention. I would go back for the fish and chips for sure.

The food was just okay. I ordered the haddock tips. You don't get very many, however they are large. My reason for such a low rating is due to the restaurant being dirty. It wasn't busy. There were 4 of us and only 4 others there. The floors were dirty with debris and french fries, the tables were also dirty. There were 3 people working. One did service and payment, another was cooking and a third was just standing their on his phone the whole time. It's a small eat in restaurant. There is no need for it to have dirty floors and multiple dirty tables, inside and outside.

Ordered fish and chips and coffee.
Coffee was so weak it didn't have any taste to it. The French fries were mostly end pieces and hard. Fish was good but about half the size we would get elsewhere around the south shore. Must be new owners. Really good food here before changed hands.

I stopped in Tuesday around 2 pm
One other couple there. I waited over 30 minutes for a hot hamburger and fries. After waiting too long I discovered the burger was almost cold, fries soggy and 5 peas on top of the thinnest bread I've ever seen. Ketchup was watered down.
Went to pay cash. No money in the till. Couldn't make change. One sorry excuse of a business. I told the guy my meat was cold. No response. Good luck keeping those doors open.never again.

Good food.very good prices.place was freezing inside so bundle up.friendly staff.coffee kinda burnt but drinkable.had the hot turkey sandwich.very yummy

Food was reasonable price.and great tasting.only complaint was the place was freezing.need to turn on the wood stove in the middle of the room.coffee was burnt tasting.but drinkable sorta.water was yellow didn't taste it for obvious reasons.maybe that had something to do with coffee but all in all it was good.

Food was OK, service polite and friendly. Outside temperature was plus4 inside wasn't much warmer. After getting my toque from the car the waitress brought over a portable reflector heater but it couldn't cope. Bathroom was dirty with paper overflowing garbage. Won't be back

I Love this place great fish and chips as well if your not feeling fish they have an awesome club house and fries are delicious Super awesome service!

Quick stop on the way through chester. Very good service, haddock was perfect.home fries were Yummy.we will be back

Good experience while we dined in for lunch on our way through Chester. Had the fish and chips and they were perfectly crispy with a great portion of fries on the side along with some yummy tartar sauce! The others said their meals were good too!

I only wish the ambiance of the restaurant was better. Maybe some music or better decor.

Otherwise, great time!

This was not a great place to eat.

The fish was old and overcooked. Also, the oil used for the fries tasted old.

Though chilli was on the menu and biscuits as well, neither item was available.

The advertised pies were also not available.

Water was served in a chipped glass that cut my husband's lip.

The prices, while reasonable, were not reflective of the quality of the food. Far too many fries were served which left us feeling as though quantity was being substituted for quality.

We decline to recommend The Stretch Diner any longer.though it was one of our local go-to places for date night in years gone by.

We thought we would try this place on our way through Chester. What a mistake. We were not greeted or seated until we told the girl that the sign said, “please wait to be seated”. She said that we could sit where we wanted. There was not a clean table in the restaurant despite being the only ones in the place. We ordered two orders of fish and chips. I ordered a side of gravy for the fries. I mistook the gravy initially for beans because of the bean sized lumps in it. It was too thick to pour. Disgusting. Not only that my fish tasted awful and the fries were burnt in both meals. Perhaps if the cook and the girl spent less time chatting, and actually did their jobs, this experience would not have been so bad. As for drinks, we asked for lots of water, to only be given a half glass of water with ice. Never did she come back to check on us, offer anything more to drink or dessert- even though at the outset she told us there wasn’t any pie. The ambiance of the restaurant was cute but dead. No sound. No music. We won’t be back. We will wait in line for The Island View next time. This was $27 not well spent.
