The Tall and Small Cafe

Cute little café, perfect for lunch with a friend. The food was delicious. I enjoyed the veggie chili and turkey pesto sandwich.

Food here is so good but the service here is so slow. There was no one else ordering or anything and it took me 30 min to get a single sandwich with hummus. We also find that they are often aren’t open when they say they are.

I live in New Brunswick now, but I still crave that Turkey Pesto sandwich from afar. I love stopping here every time I visit Antigonish. The food is remarkable. ALL of their bread is made in house, as well as the baked goods. The atmosphere is cozy, warm and inviting.

The coffee is from JustUs and North Mountain, which are both Nova Scotian. The chicken for the Loch Abar Chicken sandwich comes from a local farm. I love coming here knowing I'm supporting local businesses and that my money stays in the community.

Stopped in for coffee. Staff very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the coffee and oat cakes. Nice Cafe.

Turkey pesto sando will knock your boots off! Came back a second day to have the grilled cheese which was also awesome.

They are not in a hurry, we waited 30 minutes for a latte and drip coffee. We would have asked for a refund after 20 minutes but there was not enough staff working, and we did not want to burden the other customers who were also waiting upwards of 30 minutes.for coffee drinks. Great atmosphere and the food quality is obviously why people would wait so long. However, as a visitor. I suggest you put aside a larger time slot than expected for service.

Coming here was a big mistake. We came because a local friend recommended it, and we were passing through town on the way to Cape John.at 12: 30pm on a Friday we waited in a long line 25 minutes to order the food, which should have been our first clue. After ordering 4 sandwiches (JUST SANDWICHES ON BREAD - not fancy baked things or whatever) and three bowls of "chili" we waited more than an hour for the food to arrive. After 40 minutes of waiting for food we asked if they could speed it up because we needed to get back on the road. We were told they had a policy to only make the food in the order it was ordered and their were still 3 orders ahead of us. We then waited another 20-30 minutes - I was watching and in this time they were making 7 sandwiches. In case folks are saying "yes, but staffing issues, etc etc.) there were 5 people working and there were about 10 tables. So not a bad staff ratio. The food was NOT worth the wait. It was very basic. Lastly if you see "Soup of the Day: Veggie Chili" on the menu you might expect to receive Chili. Instead we received tomato-based minestrone vegetable soup, and it was warmish but not hot. Twice we asked for water and twice two different people said they'd bring it and didn't. What time did we leave this basic sandwich shop? 2: 30 - a full 2 hours after we arrived. I can't for the life of me understand how this place has the reviews it has.

Visited at lunchtime; it was busy, but not that busy It took a half hour to get to the cash. The person taking orders seemed to be chill, so chill that they contributed to a long wait. When we finally ordered, it was a pleasant experience. Because you pay first, you must leave a tip before being served. I wish I could get my tip back.
We were in a bit of a rush, driving to see friends before hitting the road again, the wait to order was long, but it was a sunk cost by the time we ordered, or so we thought. When we sat down to wait for our food, four tables had ordered before us. We didn’t get our food for another 45 minutes, 1 hour and 15 minutes to get soups and sandwiches.
We finally asked about the wait, indicating that we had a schedule we were trying to keep. The only thing the staff offered was to pack up our meals to go. We were with two kids who ordered chilli; by this point, they were starving and asked if they could at least get their food sooner. Read, please spoon chilli in a bowl and bring it to the table. They refused, saying that they do one order at a time, a good rule in principle, but not when the people in the kitchen are moving in slow motion.
We finally got our food. When it came, we asked for water, but they never brought it. One of the bowls of chilli was cold; the other was hot. We ordered cheese on top of one bowl of chilli; it did not come. Also, the chilli was more like a vegetable soup with a few beans than a chilli. We ordered an Asian dressing for a side salad accompanying one of the sandwiches; we got a ranch dressing. Maybe the kitchen decided to punish us because we complained. The food wasn’t terrible, but the service left a bad taste in our mouths. I would not recommend the Tall and Small Cafe, and I won’t be going back there.

We didn’t have to wait at all for our pick up. We called and it was a smooth process. The sandwiches were definitely worth the price. The latte was a great add on. Would love to go here if I’m back in town.

Busy place at lunch time, great indication of how good the place is. Had the grilled cheese (high plains drifter topping) which is an all inclusive open faced sandwich with a side order of salad. EXCELLENT.
Very tasty and satisfying.

Though we did not have the soup this time, we were told their soup of the day is always excellent.

A small place, busy and right next to Peace by Chocolate.

It was just an unbelievably long wait - close to an hour - for two basic sandwiches for a soup and sandwich cafe. I have no idea what took so long but I had to ask for our food. No hate to this place but if you’re in a bit of a rush maybe choose somewhere else.

We decided to stop and support a local restaurant instead of making our lunch. We went here as they said there was vegan options, there was none. The food other than the bread was unimpressive and something I could have gotten at Subway. The service well it took 40 minutes for a veggie sandwich and the most boring salad with italian dressing from Kraft. It was so loud in there we had to take our lunch and eat in the car and portion was so small we made our own sandwich in the car.

Soup and "salad" (tiny) and a sandwich. 30 min wait for mediocre food. Won't be back. Go elsewhere like the waffle bus.

Great Cafe. Very busy. Stopped with family for coffee and snacks. (Highly recommend the cinnamon buns.) Friendly staff. Love the art work too.

This is hands down the best cafe in Antigonish- at least from the ones that I've tried. The coffee and tea as well as the latte price or other drinks is fair and their desserts are incredible.

You must try the German apple cake! It is cream cheese icing and it really caught me by surprise. I just decided to give it a try but it exceeded my expectations by like 200%.

A very okay cup of coffee. I think because she put hot water in first, then added the americano shot, it made it taste chalky.

Really enjoyed this place - the decaf americano I ordered was good (much better than a lot of americanos I've had while in Nova Scotia) and the grilled cheese was delicious. I'm not sure what the person who posted before me is complaining about - the open-faced grilled cheese with tomato and pesto I had looked pretty similar and tasted really great! I also had a side salad. (Also not to be rude but these are 4 "big city" stars - if I were rating it based on what else is available in this area I'd give it 5 stars.)

Found this gem in university 2005. Obsessed with their Greek veggie sandwich so much so that I stop and grab one each time I pass through on my way home to CB for vacation from Ontario. I enjoy all of their different creations but the Greek veg is my fave!
