Super friendly staff, great service! We ordered the lamb burgers and they were delicious. We were lucky enough to watch a firework show on the water while eating on the patio which made our dinner out that much more special!

Wonderful spot for lunch. There weren't a tonne of vegan options but there was enough to satisfy and the taste was amazing! I had the veggie pizza with vegan cheese and donair seitan and I couldn't stop until it was gone. Then the chocolate tofu dessert was just as good. Highly recommend!

The bruschetta was very generous and extremely tasty as the appetizer. For the lunch entree the chicken club variation was extremely tasteful, with the bacon being particularly noteworthy. Great atmosphere with friendly and knowledgeable wait staff.

One of my all-time favorite restaurants! Finding great vegetarian options is difficult, but I adore every single thing I've tried here (including pre-vegetarian). Has been a fave for a good 8 years now!

The food was not very seasoned, the food was still good tho. The staff was really nice and the place was cleaned.

I love the Woden Monkey. I've tried different food there but the last time I was there I had the seafood chowder and it was very different from the seafood chowder I've had anywhere else. It was tomato based and even though that's usually not my thing I really enjoyed it. The focaccia bread that came with the chowder was sooooo good. I wanted to ask for more
I also tried their famous chocolate tofu cake and it was creamy and delicious.
The only downside was that the service was a bit slow but for a Saturday evening I guess that is expected.

Never been disappointed by a meal here. They take there time and you can tell by the taste.

We were in Halifax on a conference on Friday and stopped in for supper. Service was mediocre, food was nothing to complain about but it was dirty. Mouse droppings on the heaters, the bathroom was ick, and the bar area was a disaster. (If that’s what we could see in plain sight I would hate to see the kitchen) that being said we enjoyed our meal but waited a long time between visits from our server. Not overly friendly and dismissive, just not personal at all. Probably won’t return.

Good place to hangout with friends. The lamb burger is ok, the fries were cold and not fresh.

Went here based on a very positive experience at the Dartmouth location - they are not the same from what I can tell. Service was slower, food wasn't as good even though my partner and I ordered the same thing at the Halifax location. Decor was nice and the restaurant and bathrooms are clean.

I'd come here for beers and appetizers on the patio, but for a nice meal I'd go to the Dartmouth location.

I went twice during my trip to Halifax. I have celiac disease and it was not far from the hotel, I read great comments about the restaurant.
For dinner, it went great, excellent service, excellent food. The cheesecake is to die for. I stayed for hours with a friend.
For lunch the next day, I was with my boyfriend and kids and it took so much time, a starter arrived after all the rest. We eneded up being there for 2 hours which is long with kids. The restaurant must have been understaffed that day and the place was full including outside which was not the case at dinner the day before and the service was still excellent! Their kid's menu is interesting.

They were very accommodating as we didn’t have a reservation and so friendly! Just amazing service. Would 10/10 recommend!

My sister and I ate here twice in June 2022. My sister has to avoid gluten, which made this restaurant a treasure. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable and the food was delicious! We had the “fried” fish from the lighter fares menu. It was a huge portion of fish, perfectly cooked and very fresh. The potatoes were yummy and their take on coleslaw was very tasty. We also had the fish cakes which were also very enjoyable and very fresh tasting. It was so good we had nachos at their Dartmouth location another day. I just wish they had Wooden Monkey t-shirts.

Food of course is really good. More than that I liked the way the building has been maintained as such.

We’ve given this place two tries now, it’s just been disappointing both times. There are too many great choices in Halifax for this place to make the cut.

Best meal I had in Halifax! They support local farmers and suppliers & this restaurant is very friendly to people with food allergies or intolerances. Emily & Spencer made my visit perfect!

I visited the Wooden Monkey while on vacation in Halifax. I liked the idea that the food options available were organic and sustainable. I had two Korean tacos and a French onion soup. The flavour of the tacos was outstanding and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The soup was equally delicious; it came with several large pieces of garlic toast sitting in the soup which made it a little difficult to get to the liquid but this was a minor inconvenience balanced out by how delicious the toast was. Because everything is organic or locally sourced, the menu is a bit pricey but don't let this deter you from visiting. I'll definitely pay this restaurant a visit again if I'm ever back in Halifax.

I just love this place! The food is amazing and accommodating my picky palate is a challenge they always conquer. I particularly enjoy the Dartmouth location that overlooks the Dartmouth waterfront that provides an outstanding view of the harbour and Halifax skyline. The staff, atmosphere and quality of food is an ideal combination. Great experience!

Came for the vegan menu, stayed for the Donair, regret leaving at the end of the chocolate tofu pie. Recommend the pie be ordered as your appy, main, and dessert. Seriously, the best dessert I've had in years.

Always great service and excellent food and a good local beer selection. Excellent, deliciousfood options for those groups that have diverse dietary needs.

A very Easy Coast style pub. Bit of an antique fishing schooner vibe. Staff were very nice. The selection of beer was mainly local brews. Bit disappointed they didn't have NS rum. Had the scallops and they were very, very good.

I see the vegetarian label in the yelp header, but I seem to remember having roast beef, chicken, and fish here at various times over the years. Though I will confirm there are always interesting veggie options that can tempt me away from the meat dishes. Not many restos can do that.

We had been here multiple times, but we kept giving them too many chances. Food is okay, service is to slow & ignorant, place is fine. The waiters on the other were subpar and excessively rude/insulting. Will never go again, would not suggest to anyone. Not worth it at all.

Plenty of vegetarian and meat options which are all tasty, service was exceptional (thanks Melissa) and the food had great portion sizes. Will visit again soon!

The staff were so knowledgeable about food allergies and Celiac specifically. We felt safe eating there and the ambiance was lovely. Made for a great date night!

It was our first night in Halifax and a very nice guy in the lobby of our hotel told us the Wooden Monkey was a must! The food was fantastic and the staff was just as great! Scallops were hands down the best I’ve ever had!

Best restaurant that I've eaten at in a long time! Food was very flavourful, not greasy and I left very full. The chocolate tofu pie was amazing, not overly sweet, it was perfect! Prices were quote reasonable as well. As a tourist from Ontario, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who hasn't tried it!

Screening was well done and quick. Our reserved table was upstairs which isn't really accessible for anyone with mobility issues but was fine for our party. Limited menu but good quality food. Very friendly servers.

Great food and staff. Had a great night! The establishment could use a bit of sprucing up.interior and bathrooms looking a little grubby and tired. Time for a refresh.

Had the braised beef. The serving size of beef was generous, however the meat itself was very tough, and quite dry. The flavour profile was very flat. Adding salt made it somewhat salvageable but over all I was very disappointed. The mashed potatoes were made with russets, skin in, and were not very appetizing either. We also tried the onion dip and fete red pepper dip, these were excellent. The side of vegetables with my main course was okay but nothing to wrote home about. Not worth 26 dollars.

Ordered Fish and chips for takeout. Well packaged. There is a twist to fish and chips. Personally for me it was a bit dry and way too healthy for my taste. The potato wedges were nothing special. The salad was good. Get something to drink with the dish to wash down as overall it felt dry.

Very busy and wanted to sit on the patio. Wait time was about an hour and considering how small the patio was, its understandable. Once seated, the waitress came and took our order right away.

The nachos i ordered were big and layered well. I would recommend not getting the chicken for $5 extra but the guacamole for $3 more was worth it. The salsa that comes with the order is freshly made inhouse and is very good.

Good experience overall considering the wait time.

Ordered the Sweet Apple Salad. It was excellent. The service was great. Tables in the restaurant have been removed to maintain social distancing and capacity limits. They offer takeout and delivery. Highly recommend checking out the Wooden Monkey!

Tonight I ordered take out and ordered the bacon cheese burger on a gluten free bun! I asked for non spicy mayo and was very happy to find out that they listened!:)

I don't eat out much anymore as I am on a gut friendly diet but was very happy to have a takeout option and bonus supporting local <3 It was delicious!

I also ordered the vegan chocolate tofu pie but haven't tried it yet! Will update once I do:)

Amazing food and great portions (we ordered the Cajun haddock and the fish cakes). Our waitress (I didn't get her name, but she mentioned that she works at the restaurant 40 hours a week) was really nice and accommodating. I love all of the vegetarian and vegan options. Can't wait to return!

Nice, cozy atmosphere. The server was great and knew the menu inside and out, making recommendations and notes on my order as appropriate. Food was quite good (lamb burger and roasted potatoes) and a good value. Also a good beer selection, with a rotating tap. Will definitely be back.

It's a decent place to grab a bite. The location has a semi jungle theme and there are images of monkeys everywhere. The menu is not large. There is a selection of salads, burgers, pizza, sandwiches, and mains. They can do all but two of the items on the menu as gluten free. There are also options to make meals dairy free. The kitchen is accommodating and will make it happen. The staff are friendly and informative. It's an option that is good for almost all dietary needs.

Amazing cajun haddock. Sauce is amazing and sweet potatoes are perfectly cooked. Would totaly recommend.

Nice place, decent food. Good if you're looking for a hearty meat & potatoes type of meal. I wouldn't describe it as incredibly special, but it really is pretty good. One of my friends has Celiac and it's one of the only restaurants where she can eat, so that's definitely a plus!

Atmosphere was lovely. Kyle was very friendly and quick to help me choose what to eat. Nachos were awesome. The mains were slightly overcooked, /but/ flavour was amazing. Would definitely come back again, just for the friendly staff.

The food was fantastic, wasn't the cheapest but it was really worth it and the service was amazing, if you get Stewart the waiter he is awesome!

One of the best meals I've ever had. The seafood chowder (which I didn't order, but got to taste) is next level.

Lack luster flavors, dry beef and pulled pork, potato fries were seasoned poorly and over saturated. Honestly it's a pass for price point walk another 100ft and you'll find better

The food was very overpriced for the quality. Had the braised beef with mashed potatoes and it was dry and bland. The service was nice but It was disappointing that I had to pay almost $30 for a meal I could cook better at home.

The food is highly overpriced for what you get. The pulled beef burger was actually a pulled pork burger. The meat was dry and had almost no spice. The wedges on the side tasted like they were not cooked all the way. Would not recommend this place at all.

Great food with lots of options for vegetarian and vegan options. Uber friendly and helpful waitress. Good music, not too loud. Very rustic atmosphere. Locally sourced food and environmentally responsible. We will visit again for sure.

While the food was good, portions were relatively small for the prices. The chicken curry had very little chicken on it and the seafood chowder had very little broth. Also the pink sangria was disappointing as it tasted more like sparkling hi-c punch with very little alcohol content (if any.we really couldn’t taste it).

Great service here, I had the Napa tacos, great healthy choice and surprisingly filling. Their taco "meat" was amazing!

Very nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The food wasn't the best, I think the chef poured too much soy sauce (possibly by mistake) on my food. I couldn't finish even half of the bowl.

Went here for supper one night a couple weeks ago, food was absolutely terrible. I ordered the pull pork sandwich (special). Was special alright. There was basically no pull pork, flavourless. The house fries or wedges tasted as if they were cooked a week prior.

What an incredible experience. I was dining solo while traveling for work and my server Kyle was incredible! I’m gluten intolerant and deathly allergic to peanuts and tree nuts but he was easily able to make the meal work for me with minimal modifications (no walnuts on the salad). Everything was fresh and delicious. His recommendation for the local Bulwark cider was also great. Can’t wait to come back here! Whether you have dietary restrictions or not, you have to eat here when you’re in the city.
