Thrifty Car Rental - Halifax - Westin Hotel, Ns, Ca TLE

Arrived mid June and had a car rented for a few days while in Halifax. We had a pleasant interraction with the agent on site. She was friendly, asked about our stay. She explained the contract, took pictures of the car (we never received those) but she went to retrieve the car and brought it to the front door of the hotel. We dropped off at the airport. Great experience!

Terrible service, rude staff, over charged by $300 took hours of circular phone calls to try and get money back.

Rented a car from Hertz/Thrifty/Dollar through the Steele Chevrolet (see THAT review too) dealership for repairs on my truck.

Got the $40/day price from dealership plus $200 refundable damage deposit. Was charged $522 the next morning and have spent 2 hours working through rude associates, unhelpful automated answering services and the United States to get nothing back so far.

The Halifax Thrifty at the Westin Hotel where we picked up our rental had very poor service-we would never rent from them again. The people were rude, the car was not at all clean on the inside (gunk on the seat, children's hand smears on the windows, etc.). When we asked them to clean it, it was as though we were being unreanable. They did send it back to be cleaned but much of it was the same and reported as being "stained" so it wouldn't come out. When we got to our place we took a wet cloth to it and it came off no problem. Should we have to clean our own rental car? They also have a policy that they charge for a second driver (even though we are married), the rate that they were quoting per day was crazy and felt like a cash grab. We have never had this problem with Thrifty before, in fact when we went to another location a few days later they changed it so we could both drive with no extra fees. This was the worst car rental experience we have ever had-and we rent cars a LOT! I would suggest never using this location -when we looked at other reviews (of course after we had trouble at that location) it was clear we weren't the only ones that have had poor experiences here.
