Fish cakes for lunch are excellent
Fast friendly service and a nice patio.

Great seafood, delicious deserts. And lots of gluten free options for the folks who need those.

This place used to have great food, but it was disappointing on my most recent visit. They also ran out of beer on tap, and our server was very quirky. Nice outdoor patio though and the desserts others were getting looked great.

We decided to stop at this cafe for dinner, we were interested in the sign that the cafe has been operating since 1985, a pleasant homely interior, it’s clean and comfortable inside, there were a decent number of people inside, the waiters were pleasant, they said that there are dishes of the day. The menu is small and when reading it, all the dishes seem very interesting, we decided to choose something not from the standard options such as a burger, we waited 10-15 minutes, this is in our understanding, this is a plus that the dishes are really prepared, they brought the serving, let's say, one dish with pistachios was interesting, the second one can be cooked at home, the second moment is a dish with colored Tortellini, well, it’s bought at Atlantic or Costco, the same situation with spaghetti in the second dish, ordinary spaghetti from the store, with all this, the price for one dish is 23 dollar, I think it’s too much, if such a price is pasta and everything else, it should be homemade, but not like a whole pack or even two from a store for $ 10, the impression was blurry and we agreed that we should have ordered a burger, we would have received more impressions than frustration unfortunately.

This is an incredible little place.

The service was great, and the food was top-notch. I had salmon & eggs Benedict, and it tasted fantastic.

Had the peanut soup, which was so extremely hot that I was unable to enjoy it even after I asked the server to transfer it to a fresh bowl to cool it off. It was like lava. The place was pretty noisy too despite being only at half capacity. My table mates enjoyed their dinners, especially the huge deserts. Our server Gibby was excellent.

Great little spot for a sit down coffee and a tasty snack.or a pre or post swim bite to eat. I like the atmosphere.

Steve and the crew at Trelis Cafe did an amazing job proving the food for my recent wedding. My order turned out pretty last minute but Steve was incredibly helpful. The food was delicious! We had pistachio chicken pasta, salads, shrimp, scallops and the best salmon I ever had. Everyone loved every item. I couldn't have asked for anything more from Trelis Cafe. Huge thanks to Steve and his team, you helped us have a perfect evening.

We went there today for lunch July 25,2023. First they kept messing up our beer order after we waited a long time to be served and then when we ordered our food, avocado and brie sandwich, it was served with rotten avacados clearly gone bad and tasted like dirt.

The second waitress was nice, and they took off four dollars on each of our bill. But it was still not a great experience. 80 for half soup and sandwich for 2.

We enjoyed a delicious brunch here in their charming patio area. We’re planning to return at night to take in more of the ambiance with the string lights they have placed up throughout the vines. We both loved our eggs Benedict (one smoked salmon and one lobster) ; the hollandaise sauce was to die for. The salad that came with the meal was incredibly delicious. The home fries were seasoned and cooked perfectly and our server was very kind and attentive. Thanks for a delicious experience!

The staff were very friendly! The restaurant was clean and organized. The prices were about standard. Our food came in a good amount of time. Our party of 4, enjoyed breakfast sandwiches, fishcakes with beans, and eggs Benedict.

I had the eggs Benedict and it was the star of the show! There was a good amount of bacon and Hollandaise sauce. The salad and home fries were also very good! The salad that came with the eggs bennie, could not have been paired any better!

Another person at our table had fish cakes with beans with very wide cut toast (he really enjoyed it) The breakfast sandwiches where also good. One of the sandwiches was made vegetarian by removing the meat option and adding tomato and lettuce. Perhaps that should be a regular menu item for brunch. Everyone was happy!

Our coffee was a little too strong for us. We used up all the cream at our table and the coffee was still very very dark. Dark roast is not our favorite, but at the same time it did taste fresh. Seems to be a trend these days to have very dark house coffee. Make sure to bring a sweater if you get cold easily. We were comfortable.

All positive!

Well I have visited this location multiple times to attempt to get back to the lovely spot I had so enjoyed a couple years ago where I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious their chowder is/was. Sadly in each attempt since I have been disappointed. No more so then my last visit. On June 17th in an attempt to take my Dad out for a lovely brunch on the Saturday before Father’s Day, I made a reservation for brunch at 12: 30pm at the Trellis. When we got their we were greeted by a lovely server who sat us and gave us menus. I had noticed that the menu was not for brunch. Our actual server came to our table and to say she was less than welcoming would be an understatement. No eye contact, no smiling. I asked about brunch only to be told they stop brunch at 11am! I was shocked because their website didn’t say the hours and brunch is typically the breakfast/ lunch we all know and love. Stopping brunch at 11 was ridiculous. I had my heart set on eggs and the only thing on the lunch menu was an omelette so I asked if I could have that and add a small salad to it and my server, again no eye contact or hint of friendliness said “ no sorry the chef doesn’t like to do that. ” WTH? ! Ok fine I settled for the salad because it seemed yummy. $14 for just a salad and it didn’t even fill the bowl it came in. My Dad had a salad and half sandwich and he found the sandwich dry because the break was so big there was more bread then filling. Chicken sandwich btw. The server never asked us how our meal was during our stay either, perhaps because she could sense my utter disappointment in the visit, who knows. I can say that we won’t be coming back again, especially with so many great spots to visit along the drive.

The best restaurant in NS! Amazing seafood chowder… the bread is homemade. They don’t put flour in the broth which I love (I hate that clumpy mess). Perfect fish cakes. Awesome staff, cute little atmosphere. Wonderful owner. Just the best! Worth every penny. Don’t forget the HOMEADE DESSERTS! Chocolate cake is to die for. Also a really nice choice of GF/veg options on the menu if that’s your thing. Can’t wait to be here in a few weeks.

The pistachio chicken linguini is the best pasta dish I have ever eaten by far. The spinach salad was very fresh and the strawberries were a delicious surprise. My husband had the pan fried haddock which was seared to perfection. Our only suggestion would be that the home fries had more flavor. The coconut cram dream pie was delish!

Our waitress was absolutely delightful, personable and professional. She exuded joy and made our anniversary extra special with a happy anniversary sign and forget-me-nots. We will definitely be back. Thank you so much for adding so much to our special day

This cute little spot in Hubbards, Nova Scotia has apparently been a respected fixture for many years. You can't help noticing the charming trellis-covered patio filled with happy, lively people as you drive past!

I had the great fortune of sampling one of the best fish-cake dishes in recent memory. It had a delicious, fresh fish flavour and was a genuine patty - firm, golden-brown, and a bit crisp on the outside. Among the "sides" options, I chose the homemade baby spinach salad with sliced, fresh strawberries. It was just the right combination for such a beautiful, sunny afternoon's dining al fresco.

In the photo, you can see what remained of my drink, my first (and arguably the best) Arnold Palmer I've ever had! Sarah, our lovely, friendly, and delightful server (who happens to be the owner's daughter), introduced me to this simple and brilliant concoction of iced tea and lemonade. My thirst was completely quenched and now I can't wait until my next order (I think they're addictive)!

Seeing how busy this little roadside icon has been over the years, I'd say it's fair to bet that they're consistent in their food and offerings. There were some nice vegetarian and gluten-free options available, so that's handy for some of us. I know it's now officially on my radar for the next trip through the Hubbards-Chester area. I hope you'll enjoy this little gem, too.
